Chicken katsu sando and udon noodles
    Sarah S.

Love grabbing a Japanese inspired bite along with a beer at The Veil/ Nokoribi. As a Japanese American I really enjoy their food and can definitely taste the Japanese flavors in their food. Their ingredients are always fresh and presented beautifully. They change their menu frequently which is bitter sweet because I like to try new items but it's also sad to see my favorites go. I've also experienced some slight variation in the same menu items during different visits but over all the food is consistently good. Their cold noodles (when they have them) are the go to.

As if I needed another reason to frequent The Veil - this is such a reliably outstanding choice for food anytime I am out and about. Everything I have tried here (see photos) has been so uniquely delicious - truly nothing like the spice and crisipiness of that fried chicken, and the textures of the pork katsu sandwich just scream perfection between the softness of the bread, the moistness of the vegetables, and the thick tenderness of the meat. Seriously - I could eat here everyday and still be impressed - everything is so aesthetically pleasing and I truly don't think there are many other spots in Richmond that meet this quality and aesthetic... not too shabby for a place situated within a bar :) a damn good one at that!

Loved trying this hot and new business in The Veil Brewing's new Scott's Addition location. ***LOCATION*** The Veil in Scott's Addition moved to 1509B Belleville St. Nokoribi is inside of the new location. You'll order your food from the same line that you order your drink. ***EXPERIENCE*** I came on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. The Veil's aesthetic is just so trendy. I love all the neon signs, black, and animals. The logo of Nokoribi is cool too. It's by the same people who did Longoven and Lost Letter. After ordering, you'll get a pager to let you know when your food is ready. Once it buzzes you pick up your food from the Nokoribi bar. Here's what I got: Yaki chicken thighs: This was my favorite thing I ordered. The grilled chicken flavor was delicious and the scallion complimented the skewer. Udon noodles: Very thick, creamy, and yummy. It was rich, so I couldn't eat too much of it. Pork rinds: This wasn't for me. If you like spicy snacks, I could imagine it being really good with a glass of beer. There is a spicy sauce on top that made some of the rinds a little more chewy than I would've liked, but the crunchy pieces were good. ***PRICE*** I spent about $40 for those three orders, but it was a lot of food. While there were only two skewers, there were A LOT of pork rinds and a generous amount of udon. ***BATHROOM*** Probably one of the coolest bathrooms you'll go to in RVA. First I have to say I adore that it's a bunch of all gendered single stalls with one communal hand wash in the center. The "You Look Fine" mirror with the red neon lights overhead will look good in any of your Yelp photos. ***CONCLUSION*** I'm excited to come back to try more at Nokoribi.

Chicken meatballs, okonomiyaki, karaage, &. Chicken Sando.

Average fusion style cuisine. Ran out of chicken skewers, so for the chicken meatballs instead. Sat on top of sushi rice and pickled cucumbers and onions. Okonomiyaki was tasty but the mix of veggies were strange. Green beans and Brussel sprouts felt so out of place. The chicken sando slaw was great! But made the bottom bun soaking wet, and American cheese was a strange choice of cheese. Provolone or Colby jack would have been more preferred. No complaints on the karaage.

Kimchi fries and their fried chicken sandwich

Such a yummy spot located within the veil Brewing in Scott's. And we had their fried chicken sandwich that was fried to perfection along with your kimchi fries. The fries were so good, they didn't last a minute. Can't wait to return to try their other options

Since coming to Richmond, I've had a hard time finding a quality Japanese restaurant that sold more than just sushi and when I heard that a "yakitori inspired eatery" was opening up, I was very eager to try out Nokoribi. However, I was extremely disappointed. I came here with a few friends on a Friday evening and got to try a good amount of items off their menu. To begin with, the Chicken Drum Karaage looked decent from its appearance, but tasted burnt and was quite dry. We weren't able to finish this, even with the spicy mayo to drown out some of the burnt taste. The Koji wings were a bit better, but again very dry. Next, the Daikon/Cucumber/Shiso salad was severely lacking in flavor. I'm not really sure what they were going for with this, but honestly the cucumber salad they sell at certain asian grocery stores is much better. The meatball skewers and Katsu Sando were okay - not bad, but not great either. For the pork rinds, they give you a pretty big portion size and its covered in spicy mayo which is good, but it is very salty so be aware. The udon was recommended and it was okay as well. I think the best thing I tried was the Tamago Sando which had a nice sweetness to it, but nothing that really blew me away. Ultimately, while the dishes here were yakitori and Japanese inspired, it was a major letdown as it wasn't authentic, and even as a asian fusion eatery, the flavors weren't good for most of the dishes. Especially at the price point for all of their menu items, I was expecting a lot better quality. All in all, I may be in the area to get some drinks at The Veil, but I definitely won't be getting food here again.

Clockwise from top left: Udon, Chicken Meatballs, pork katsu & mushrooms. All delicious, particularly the udon and katsu sando.

**3.5 The food we experienced was delicious, particularly the pork Katsu sando and the Udon. The fried pork in the sandwich was super crunchy which added a really nice overall texture to the sandwich. The udon noodles, yolk and broth were on point. The issue I found which affected, and in the end lowered my rating of this spot was the irritating process one has to go through to get to their food. The food orders are placed with the same bar staff taking beer orders. In theory management is probably thinking that they are being efficient, killing two birds with one stone, but really what happens is there's a huge bottleneck of a line to acquire either. My particular experience consisted of waiting in a zig zag line about 30+ people deep, and it was a painfully long wait to order. Food came out quick, fortunately. You're really screwed if you get out of that line without closing your tab, you'll be waiting in another stupid long line just to settle up not to mention if you want another beer. Long story short, the food is tasty and I'd like to have more of it but getting to the finish line is more of a hassle than the entire experience is worth. Hopefully they can figure out a way to make the dining (and drinking) experience more efficient for the consumer.

It's my first time to the new Veil spot and apparently it's been there for 3 months. Much better space and location! Not sure, but I assume Nokoribi has been there that long as I hadn't heard of it prior. Super clean setup in the open kitchen area. You actually place your food order where you order beer. They give you a buzzer that no matter how loud the noise or music is you will not miss :) I ordered the cucumbers, chicken kabobs and the udon... Way too much food for one person unless you want to take the udon home (which I did). The chicken kabobs were very good and with the cucumbers could cover the base for a meal. Very flavorful and even better with their homemade hot sauce. I think, however, the udon noodles take the cake. That is something I would definitely love to order after a multi beer session and take home. It's so rich and reminds me of a cross of an Alfredo pasta sauce with mushrooms and a carbonara because of the fresh egg. Look forward to visiting again and trying other things while taking an udon home for leftovers!

Everything in this menu is fresh, savory, and inspired. The perfect collection of umami-packed snacks to pair with your Veil IPA. Highly recommend the kimchi fries to share with the table.

Garlic lemon dry rubbed wings (2 not pictured bc we were hungry and forgot to take a pic)
    Stephanie B.

Been to the Veil several times since they moved locations but was never excited about the menu at this new food spot until I saw a photo of the wings on an Instagram post. I love a dry rubbed wing and have not found anything good since the chef at Saison left several months before their closing. They had THE BEST pineapple jalapeño spiced rubbed wings. Anyway, the wings here aren't noted as a rubbed or a sauced so we chatted with a staff member about em. He said they alternate their flavors every so often so checked for us and confirmed the garlic and lemon flavor was a rub. We paid, got a buzzer, and about 15 mins later picked them up from the food counter. They were very tasty and had a good level of spice. Were not overly garlicky or lemony. Medium level of heat. I took off one star because the wings had varying amount of spices on them. Some were lightly dusted and one was over saturated in spice. Would definitely go back to order again or see if they have a different flavor to try!

This area is a bit dark, but has nice vibes inside. The drinks were not bad. The food was limited the day we went, overall it was good, but it seemed pretty salty to us. The staff were friendly and gave recommendations for what to get.

    Chicken Katsu Sando
    Krystle K.

Here you'll find more than just delicious food, you'll actually be enveloped in a whole mood where fresh seafood, chicken and vegetables are cooked over a coal fire right in front of you as you sip on crafted cocktails and brews. The meats here have an incredible unique smoky flavor and this art of cooking infuses a new dimension of flavor. The Japanese pub-style inspired food and yakitori concept is a must try. The service was also, friendly and prompt.

    "Kimchi" fries
    Nikita T.

I hate to write a review just based on fries, especially because I do like The Veil. But these "kimchi fries" are a disgrace. Where is the kimchi???? All I see are fries with a little spicy mayo and green onions. And the fries are hard. A waste of money :/
