Come by with a few friends for dinner. Upon entering you're immediately greated with a hefty wave of fish sauce. For those with sensitive nose, I'd be wary, but for me, it was a sign of a good meal. We ordered a few things but I only remember to take two photos. -thai tea -bbq mix -salmon larb -pad thai -thai tea came in a very large cup. It was solid, but wish it was a little stronger in taste as it was a bit too milky for me. -bbq mix plated came with a few different skewers and some sticky rice. The beef and sausage skewers were my personal favorite for flavor and tenderness. It comes with some fish sauces that really enhanced and complimented the flavors. -salmon larb was my least favorite of the order. I wished it had a stronger flavor. It was probably made to order and therefore the flavors didn't have time to marinate into the fish. Perhaps a different protein for large nextime. -pad thai was very delicious. Noodles were a bit soft so it just broke when I tried to eat. Flavors were on point. Sweet and tangy combo that tasted really well with the protein and veggies.

Ricky and the entire staff are genuinely the most sweetest people I've ever had the pleasure of encountering. I was hiking a trail on Fairview earlier and decided "since I'm in the neighborhood for Veit and Pho, one can't really depart w/o having authentic Veit food??" As a LA native so for those who know this is quite a drive lol I killed time during rush hour and got hungry as well. Was yelping nearby places and came across this Lao spot gem! In LA it's rare to NONE that Lao food spots are a thing? So I HAD to eat here. I came in and was immediately greeted so kindly by Ricky. He seated me and had such a genuine warm energy to him. Loved all the traditional hanging lanterns too! Gave it a real homey and cute traditional vibe. I got the Thum Udon Noodles (Lao style w/ blue crab and many chilies. It was sooo delicious wishes Thum noodles was more a thing here in the States. Also tried Beer Lao my first time and it was light and refreshing! Def really good! Anyone deciding if they should drop by this spot DO IT! It's so good and service was 10 stars! Tysm Ricky for making my experience so amazing!

#4 - BBQ Mix Plate Papaya Salad Fried Pork Cheek Small shareable Sticky Rice

Nook Kitchen Lao Soul Food -- 6/10 I'd give Nook Kitchen Lao Soul Food a 6/10 overall. The food was good and had a lot of flavor, but there were a few things that kept it from being a higher rating for me. We ordered the oxtail soup, which was okay. The broth was good and flavorful, but it wasn't my favorite dish of the meal. The papaya salad with four peppers was really good! It was pretty spicy, but also very flavorful. If you like your papaya salad spicy, this definitely had a good kick. We also ordered the BBQ mix plate with sticky rice, which came with Lao sausage, grilled chicken, and beef skewers. As a Lao person, I'm already familiar with Lao sausage, so I knew that was going to be good . The grilled chicken was okay, but I personally liked the beef skewers more. You could really taste the lemongrass, and they had a nice grilled flavor. The sticky rice was a smaller, shareable portion. I also got the Khao Piek Sen, which is a Lao chicken noodle soup with thick, chewy noodles. This was probably my favorite dish! The broth had a really nice chicken aroma, and you could taste all the herbs they used. It was flavorful and comforting without being too heavy. For the wait, they do have a waitlist, so once you pull into the parking lot, you can go inside and check in. When we went, it wasn't too busy and we waited around 20 minutes, which wasn't bad. One thing to know is that the kitchen closes around 2:30 PM and reopens later in the evening. Our server did let us know ahead of time that we needed to close out our tab before the kitchen closed, but we were still welcome to stay and finish eating. I completely understand why they do this, but having to pay before we were finished made the end of the meal feel a little rushed. Overall, the experience wasn't bad, and there were definitely some dishes I enjoyed. The Khao Piek Sen and papaya salad were my favorites, and I'm glad we gave the place a try. 6/10 for me.

Pun Pa

Tried Nok's Kitchen for the first time and it was amazing! It's tucked away from the main road inside the plaza they're a part of and once you walk through their doors, their decorations and ambience feel really cozy. Parking was plenty and easy in their plaza. All of their staff are attentive and welcoming; they make you feel like you're ordering from family! We wanted to try the Pun Pa and the server recommended we pair it with the Papaya Salad and Pork Jowl. The dishes paired really well and tasted amazing! We decided to add the salted crab with the Papaya Salad and it was def worth adding. The Pun Pa was light and flavorful with all the herbs and sauce it comes with. The Pork Jowl was cooked to perfection and the Papaya Salad helped cut through the fat with its sauce and crunch. We can't wait to try more from their menu and definitely recommend it for anyone to try their authentic flavors!

food: finding good lao food in oc is quite difficult. THIS was such a good find. the portions r huge and everything was delicious. normally when places say their spice is spicy, it's not actually spicy. however here, PERFECT SPICE LEVELS. they mean it when they say it's spicy. service: our server was so sweet and patient. ambiance: good amount of seating. i will say there is no ac, so that mixed with the spice had my friends and i SWEATING

Doc had eaten in and done take out orders before. We actually ate our lunch in the car driving south. Two more hours on the road before we reach our destination. Doc had Lao sausage plate and I had dried noodles with chicken.

Nok's Kitchen gave me an authentic, welcoming introduction to Lao soul food where every dish felt like its own experience. The whole fried tilapia looked intimidating at first, but underneath the crispy exterior was incredibly tender, flaky white meat. The soup was served over an open flame right at the table to keep it piping hot, while the Lao sausage was easily one of the biggest standouts of the meal. Knowing the owner was known for that sausage before opening the restaurant made it even more special, because you could really taste the history and care behind the recipe.

We came here for lunch and it was yummy! We ordered family style - Fried Tofu, Roti Curry, Lemongrass Chicken Wings, Lao Sausage Combo, Nam Khao, Stir Fried Broccoli and Kua Mee Sen Yai. Overall, flavors were good. Our favorites were the Roti Curry (so flakey and delicious), Lao Sausage Combo and Nam Khao (crispy rice salad). I would skip the Lemongrass Chicken Wings and Kua Mee Sen Yai next time as those were just average.

My husband and I came here on a random Monday at 7:30pm and the place was bustling! I was craving sausage but Lao style (kinda hard to find here in the OC). We were met with the owner and his wife who were taking orders, and serving food, rushing all over the place to get orders. I can tell this seems like a small mom and pop establishment. I assumed it may take a while to be seated and have food bc it seemed that busy but we were seated quickly, ordered in a timely manner and the food even came out at the perfect time. Despite the rush, we were served on time and with respect We ordered the Lao sausage, ribeye laab (very spicy), roti, and the coconut juice. The plating is very authentic to Thai/Lao style which I loved. The food is 10/10. It's soo good we brought our parents here!! Because they were out of the coconut icecream, the owner gave us free Pandan mango sticky rice! This place reminds me of home. I am Hmong so a lot of Lao style food reminds me of Hmong food. I'm happy to find this place and will be coming here often!!!

I've been to many delicious restaurants...thankfully... I have also been to many restaurants that have great customer service But I have never been to a tasty restaurant where I've met my spirit animal. You may question this...but my spirit animal actually exists at Nok's Kitchen....Its Ricky! Know this... A friend took me to this restaurant on a Friday and the food was outstanding. I wanted to try it again because you know....results may vary. So I went back two days later to eat there again. I was expecting the same mediocre service we received on Friday, but no! We got Ricky! Not only did Ricky have grace and style, but embodied what I want from a server....a long lost friend that I am reconnecting with. Ricky's warmth and charm instantly put us in a good mood...and wow... so much knowledge of favorite dishes and 'off menu items' made for a fantastic blend of flavors Oh yeah...we also ate food...lol Over a two day period I had... Roti curry (twice) Fried pork belly (twice) Bbq mix combo (twice) Sticky rice (twice) Steak larb salad Crab and pork dumplings (secret menu) Pork cheek (one of Ricky's favorite) Papaya salad/noodles mixed together Nam wan taro (warm taro pudding dessert) Pandan mango sticky rice Ice cream Iced coffee All of it was delicious, and would have to be...for me to go back within a 48 hour period All the flavors are so intense and vibrant. You never really grasp how bright the flavors are until you try a bite of something, then try a bite of something else...and by then you realize you've eaten too much Even though this restaurant is not close by...this is now on a very short list of must eats. Thank you Ricky!

The food and service are fantastic! My Laotian parents are not easily impressed, but even they liked the food. My favorite was the Nam Khao- extra crispy with tons of flavor and the Lao sausage- juicy and mouth watering. Definitely will come back and try something else!

This place is super yummy with a great ambiance and service! Our server was super sweet and provided us lots of recommendations of delicious dishes. The texture of the chicken sticky rice dish is great and the flavors of the pork were so yummy! I definitely need to come back to try more of the menu!

Menu 18/20 - May 2026

Nok's Kitchen is a Laotian restaurant with a variety of dishes on the menu. The menu items weren't extravagant, but felt like food for the soul. They made us feel warm, happy, and filling. Customer service was also really sweet. Our server, Ricky, was very friendly, personable, and down to earth. He was a delight to talk to and made us want to come back. * Rotti Curry 4/5 - This came with crispy and flaky pancakes topped with fried shallot sprinkles. The curry sauce was very flavorful with a nice coconut milk taste. * BBQ Mix Combo 4/5 - The star of the show was the spicy green sauce. It was medium spicy, and I think it had garlic, red chili pepper, and lemongrass. The chicken was 3.5/5: moist and juicy with crispy skin, but a bit bland. The beef was 4.5/5: it had a nice lemongrass flavor, though some pieces were less tender than others. The pork sausage was 4/5: made with pork and green onions, with a succulent texture and good flavor, but kinda on the fatty side. The rice had a chewy bite to it, a bit tough. * Oxtail Soup (Tom Hang Ngua) 4/5 - The oxtail was tender, but slightly chewy and not as "fall off the bone" tender as I would like. If it got simmered overnight or for a day, it would taste so good. The broth reminded me of pho broth, but with a spicy kick and a slightly different flavor profile. I liked it. Just be careful with the red chili pepper slices floating in the soup because they're very spicy! * Pandan Mango Sticky Rice 4/5 - The mango was nice and sweet. The sticky rice had a mild pandan flavor and sweetness with a slight bitter aftertaste. * Coconut Ice Cream 4/5 - This had a light coconut flavor with a tender sweetness. I wanted a more intense coconut taste, but this was still very refreshing.

Ask the Community - Nok’s Kitchen

Hi! Where did you guys get your furniture especially the chairs?

Is there more than one location? Pics show different buildings?

Only one location. They moved from Westminster ave to Bolsa Ave

Are they closed every Tuesday?

Do they have vegan food?

Most of their food will have hints of fish sauce, pork rinds, and/or meat loaf. Though you could ask to have these removed as their notable dishes like the Papaya Salad, Cucumber Salad and Crispy Rice Salad dishes.

Can we make a reservation?

The Lao sausage green sauce that it comes with is sooooooo good, do you guys sell it by itself? if not, you should really bottle it!!!

They sell it in a jar for $8

Are the frozen Lao sausages for sell at the restaurant?

Hi yes I have them available

How many tables and how many chairs do they have for outside dining?

They have about 2-3 small tables that flank both sides of their restaurant.

What dishes do they only serve on the weekends?

Soup based dishes.

Does this place accept debit/credit card?

Yes, debit and credit cards are accepted

Review 85/365 Day Challenge…read more It's been a minute I've dine here. Came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch w my mom & baby girl 9.13.26 It was a full house since it was during rush hour. Definitely worth the wait, Sign your name on the guest list and patiently wait. We were seated within half an hour. What we ordered ~ Krispy Rice aka Kow Tod is highly recommended. It's deep fried rice ball that is broken down and toss w some herbs and fermented pork. Has a really distinctive flavor. Zesty lime and it's not powerful w the herbs. You enjoy it wrapped w lettuce & cilantro or as a fried rice dish. ~ Crying Tiger my daughter loves. The brisket meat is marinated so yummy & flavorful and tender. Comes w the house special fish sauce w lime and chili dipping sauce. Enjoy it w sticky rice or alone as an appetizer. Another highly recommended dish and must get here. ~ Pho Lao, it's made Lao style. The broth is subtle like Vietnamese Pho but just a different taste. Same beef broth. Give it a try and see the difference. It's delicious just like how my mom use to make it. Help get my Laos pho fix. ~ Thai Ice Coffee is brewed in house. Really good. Not too sweet nor tremendously strong. I'd recommend this drink or the Thai ice tea. Sometimes they have had the Thai green tea too. That is also good here when they have it available. They offer different varieties of Laos dipping paste like Jaeow Bong, tomato paste & chili to purchase. Sometimes they have thai Pandan Che aka Karong Song coconut milk w palm sugar dessert sold in their fridge. They offer catering too. We've used a few times for our parties. Definitely recommended. Associate is really nice & friendly. Service is fast and the food here is amazing serving authentic Laos & Thai food. One of the best restaurants in Garden Grove. You won't be disappointed getting your cravings on. Restaurant has a simple yes nice vibe, very clean and decent size w only indoor seatings. Parking can be a bit hard to find since it's in a very busy plaza along the restaurant alone gets a lot of foot traction. It's a huge parking lot. Be patient and you'll eventually find one. Don't lose HOPE. CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY please note FYI

My favorite Night Market in all of SoCal!…read more I used to frequent this Night Market a little over decade ago when it was new and there were only about a third of the vendors they have now. I haven't been back for so long because I dread the parking but decided to give the Night Market another shot this year. As usual, parking is a nightmare. We parked a few plazas away and walked towards the Asian Garden Mall. Its hard to complain since its free. Most of the popular Night Markets charge a premium just for parking. Upon arriving at the Night Market, it was chaotic in the best way. The number of vendors multiplied since the last time I was there. There's so many more food offerings and they all look and smelled SO good! There's so much more variety now too. We ended up picking up the BBQ pork skewers. There were several booths serving them but we picked the one with the shortest line. It was 3 skewers for $10 which is a very fair price. The skewers were delicious and flavor is so good. Its slightly charred but still tender from the fat. I also picked up their grilled corn on the cob for $4. The corn has a glutinous texture which pairs well with the green onion garnish. We also grabbed a Tornado Potato stick. A little gimmicky but we love how crispy and fresh it tastes. Way better than the ones you'd get at the fair. Overall experience here was great. Free parking, free admission, and affordable Vietnamese street food! Its honestly the best Night Market in SoCal. Too bad they're only here for the summer. We'll definitely be back every summer moving forward!

They have variety vendors: food, merchandise, boba, dessert, and coffee. Family and friends enjoyed Escargot, banh kot, pork stick, seafood, and many other dishes not pictured. Many of the vendors were serving popular seafood and meat on the stick. There were no beef served at any of the vendor booth. There is no vegan items except for corn and potatoes stickers. I do not recommend for any vegetarian/vegan customers. You may find something inside the mall. Most of all, I enjoyed the music entertainment throughout the night. Many enjoyed dancing near the stage.

Reminds me more of Lao style pho because they use a blend of pepper spice. Portions - 5/5 Over abundance of proteins such as meatballs, cubes beef shanks with tendon, tripe, and sliced beef. Plenty of greens which isn't common I. Traditional boat noodle soup. Due to diet restrictions from gout; I had gambled ordering this delicious bowl only to discard away half the servings of proteins. Hopefully management understands and doesn't get offended for the left overs. Consistency of Quality 4/5 Some cuts of meat were tougher than others which applied to the beef shank and sliced beef. Only wished they had some hoisin sauce to dip. Overall I would come back for the soup.

Food (3/5): * Pad Kee Mao Lunch Special: Hot, decently spiced, and flavorful. The complimentary soup and salad were on the sweeter side, but fine. * Spicy Basil Beef Lunch Special: Just okay. The beef was tough--essentially Panda Express +1. * Fish Cakes: Tasted decent, but $15 for six tiny pieces (smaller than McDonald's nuggets) is a total rip-off. They were also stingy with the dipping sauce. Service & Value (2/5) * The servers were entirely inattentive. We had to flag someone down for basic needs like water, utensils, and boxes. To save time, we ordered a Shrimp Fried Rice ($15.95 + $2 shrimp charge) to-go during our meal. The server forgot to put the order in until after we paid, forcing us to wait an extra 20 minutes on a time crunch. The nickel-and-diming here is ridiculous: * Tofu Tax: I asked to add tofu to my veggie noodles. While adding chicken, beef, or shrimp costs $1-2 according to the menu, they slammed me with a $4 charge for a few tiny slivers of tofu. Why does tofu cost 4x more than beef? The server never mentioned this outrageous fee. Tiny Portions, Sky-High Prices: * Between small portions, a $15 bite-sized app, and sneaky upcharges, two lunch specials and a to-go order somehow hit $95 after tax and tip. This place is a tourist trap. Food is mediocre, service stinks, and the value just isn't there. I should have gone to Panda Express across the street. Won't be back.

This restaurant is also a ghost kitchen for BowlAzia. The restaurant only had 3 tables, 1 is a 2 top and the other 2 are pushed together to make 4 tops. When you enter you place your order with the cashier. Note on the menu their dishes do not include proteins, you have to add those as extra with an extra cost. We ordered the curry puffs since we read about them in the reviews. I ordered pad see ewe with broccoli on the side to give to my hubby. They use American broccoli here and not Chinese broccoli. Hubby ordered Pad Thai. We also wanted mango sticky rice but they were sold out for the day. We both ordered cups of water which were served in small plastic cups. Asked for lemon slices and received lime slices. The Sriracha and Soy sauce arrived in small packets and they brought us metal plates and silverware. Food came out in a decent amount of time. It's made to order so you do need to wait some. The restaurant was clean and not too noisy. The curry puff was a bit dry inside and not juicy at all. The crust was flaky and crispy and we enjoyed that. We came here at night so maybe if it was earlier in the day it would have tasted better? My Pad Se Ewe tasted good and I appreciated they were able to do the broccoli separately. My hubby liked his Pad Thai as well. The portion sizes were ok and we both finished our plates. If you plan on coming here during lunch or dinner time I imagine you will need to order it to go as it's so small inside. When we got there the first table was full, we took the middle tables and another party of 4 came in and took the last table. If we are in the area and it's not busy we will definitely return. However, if it's busy we will go elsewhere as we would not be able to sit and enjoy our meal there due to lack of seating.
