We went to NOCO last night for the first time. I compare this place to Fifth Season in Port Jefferson. The menu and caliber of food is about the same. Very good. I would return to NOCO, but I probably prefer Fifth Season for the location. Prices at Fifth Season are possibly a bit lower. Nothing bad to say about NOCO though. NOCO was such a great spot for our most recent date night. They recently added a little indoor/outdoor alcove of seating, which was the ideal spot for dinner on an early summer night. Now, the food. We loved everything! One of the most interesting dishes we had was the beet salad with grapefruit and ricotta. The combination of textures and flavors was amazing. We also loved the oysters with papaya - that dish was spectacular and such a fresh, bright bite. For dessert, we treated ourselves to huckleberry cheesecake that was unreal! Mmm... NOCO is a visually impressive space which seems to be on the right track to being a long term part of the North Shore dining scene. But there were a few hiccups during our recent visit that I hope can be addressed before our next try. We took two seats at the bar during the middle of a Friday service so it's understandable if it was somewhat slow. That said, we had been in our seats for 90 minutes before our entrees arrived. Our one appetizer (the raw bar sampler?) took an hour to arrive from when we took our seats too. It seemed one of them (the Cod) was under a heat lamp for far too long. It was a very high quality cut of fish but it was very under seasoned. It seems there was a sauce underneath it which had dried out due to the heat lamp. Because the kitchen was in weeds i did not consider sending it back but it was definitely a disappointment for $30. The lobster cake was far more successful and is highly recommended. The burratta dish was a nice piece of cheese but the accompaniments did not add much - specifically it seemed the chick peas were just pulled from a can without any treatment or seasoning. The cocktails were also hit and miss. They seemed heavy handed on the base liquors while also being small pours overall. The martini glasses we received were perhaps 2/3 full when served. That was the same with a cocktail in a rocks glass and a beer - not full pours. It's a simple thing but it certainly is a visual disappointment to receive a drink that looks like someone already had a few sips before it got to you. Lastly, it was disappointing that there seemed to be a manager working near the host stand but he did not seem to check in with many diners at all during our two hours at NOCO. That little extra touch could have certainly resolved some of the issues. NOCO definitely uses high quality ingredients and is a great concept that may have had some Friday night hiccups. It's worth a shot for sure - maybe next time go for a Thursday. read more

We were going to go across the street to del fuego on a Friday night but the wait was terribly long. I looked across the street and said lets go to NOCO. We didn't have a reservation but there was bar seats available. Paige(?) the bartender was awesome. Very knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. The cocktails were delicious and we asked for a gluten free me u. Lots of choices for us. We had a goat cheese lentil salad with frisée, candied pecans and butternut squash and a house salad. Both were exemplary. Entrees were the tile fish special and the duck...flawless. Then the sunken chocolate cake with fig-espresso gelato... wow it was wonderful. We decided to go last minute on a Saturday night. The place was crowded and the staff made us feel as if we had made a reservation weeks ago. They were so welcoming and found a table for 2 for us in the bar area. The restaurant is very well decorated and the staff was well trained. We ordered the 2 of the specials - the Clam and Roasted Corn Chowder, which came out piping HOT! ... and delicious! It was in a cool cast iron covered pot that kept it so hot. My husband ordered the "Butcher's Braise" which changes as a special. This time it was Braised Pork Belly on Beet Greens and Grits. OMG!! It was delicious NOT fatty as pork belly can be. Succulent and delicious. I ordered the appetizer Crisp Duck Confit leg with Waffle and Stone Fruit Jam. It was a tender, juicy confit leg that had been crusted and deep fried. I COULD"VE LICKED THE PLATE. Soft on the inside and crispy delicious on the outside. It was plenty for me as a main. I really don't want people to discover this place. ;) Thank you for making an ordinary Saturday feel so special! read more

Great find. When we (my wife, adult daughter and me) can all can say unequivocally that we enjoyed our meal, then it must have been special. I had a medium steak (I can't remember which cut, as I'm writing this a week later) and my wife had sea bass (I think that's all she ever eats?) can't remember what my daughter had. Server was pleasant and helpful and service was quick enough. Desserts were ok, this is where they could possibly improve; however, we went for the entrees not the desserts so I'm not the best "judge" in that area. We don't drink alcohol so I can't comment on that either. We plan on going back. read more

NOCO is hands down my new favorite restaurant. I have been there on a date night and for happy hour with the girls. Being that I am vegetarian and gluten free, it is difficult to find a place that has quality dishes and multiple options for me to choose from. I definitely recommend the corn pasta with acorn squash, pickled shallots, chanterelle and English peas tossed in winter truffle and olive oil. Do yourself a favor and stop in! read more

My husband and I ate here last weekend and had a good meal. Drinks were delicious and the shrimp cocktail app was generous and excellent. My husband said his duck was spot on and he was very pleased with it (and he's pretty picky). My salmon fillet was perfectly prepared - well cooked but not dry at all. However, I was disappointed in the accompaniment. It was a savory, cabbage-laced mixture that just didn't complement a seafood dish. I remember when I worked at a respected restaurant in the 3V area they served something similar- with pot roast. Essentially the flavors just didn't mesh. The other letdown of this rising new star is the presence of large tv screens :(. There were two large TVs over the bar (the dining tables are along the perimeter of the large bar), one of which was playing a sitcom with closed captioning. My eyes kept getting pulled towards these monstrosities and I grew frustrated as it distracted me from the conversations I was trying to have with my husband. I am really tired of how these obnoxious screens have become weaved into all our experiences, and when I go out for a nice meal with my spouse on a Saturday night and drop over $100 bucks, I want the whole experience to be enjoyable. Despite the impressively good food, this one drawback was huge for me and would likely make me hesitate to go back. Save the TVs for the gas station pumps, the bars, and Super Bowl Sundays and elevate your establishment to the level your chefs and staff are on to ensure a devout following of appreciative, discerning foodies. UPDATE (to respond to owner's feedback): Mr. DeNicola, I made a reservation for 2 for dinner. Since this was our first time at NoCo, I was not aware nor informed that we'd be seated in the bar area as opposed to the main dining room. Maybe you could consider having your hostesses ask patrons re: their preferences when they call to reserve a table to further ensure a positive experience. Additionally, as I stated in my original review, I felt my salmon entree left room for improvement. Thus, these two factors led me to determine a 4 star rating. Best meal experience in quite awhile! The food here was delicious and what made the experience so much better was the service. I have many food allergies which they were happy to accommodate. NOCO was a lovely dining experience. My #squad and I enjoyed a high top table by the bar. To celebrate my friends birthday. Our waiter was exceptional with attention to detail and service. Very personable and warm. My watermelon salad was fresh and delicious! The corn cake small plate was tasty as well! My friends' enjoyed their meals too. Espresso/Fig gelato was #amazing. Such an interesting combo! The only aspect I was disappointed in was my cocktail selection. I asked for an Aperol Spritz and they didn't have those ingredients. What a treat! My husband and I took my parents to NOCO to celebrate our birthdays last night and we were absolutely thrilled with the experience! I have read the reviews and have been waiting for the opportunity to try this little gem. We had a 6:00 reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server, Rosie, was professional and knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list. She made spot on recommendations for the meal and the delish wine (Cab is King) while maintaining a great sense of humor. We opted to bypass the appetizers to save room for dessert, but hope to come back soon to sample them as they all looked delicious. For entrees, we had the Day Boat Scallops, which were HUGE and perfectly cooked, the Lobster ravioli which were light and delicious, and the Veal Bolognese which was unlike any I have ever sampled. We were all in a food coma, and then the desserts came! Hubby and I each tried the Nutella Bread Pudding with brulee banana and vanilla bean gelato. It was a perfectly balanced delight! My mom tried the Pistachio Tartufo Bomba and was very pleased. Dad had the special, a Mixed Berry crumble that he raved about. We haven't been to St James in years but so happy we came here today. Someone knows what they are doing. Great drinks, atmosphere and the food was spot on. A unique roasted eggplant and artichoke soup was simply amazing. Equally amazing was the Burrata with chickpea and zucchini "carpaccio" appetizer and the Sweet potato & Buluga Lentil salad with goat cheese and candied pecans. Ask for the Green Goddess dressing and thank me later. Main courses were on point and definitely save room for the their special ricotta cheesecake. My new favorite. Special shout out to Alison the manager who we thought was the owner. That says alot. Lastly out server Andrew who couldn't have been more attentive and nice. We loved him. This has become our favorite restaurant. The menu offers variety and nightly specials keep things lively. The service is excellent, the wait staff is friendly and efficient. It's a converted house, the interior is soft lit and cozy, the bar is friendly and the kitchen is open for viewing so there are no secrets. The is no problem switching the sides. I love their risotto, any kind and order it whenever I can. For presentation, the sides are served under the main dish. I'm sure you can ask them to plate it all separately, but I never did since the combined flavors are sensational. read more

NOCO in St. James is a NOGO. I am not one to complain, but what an awful experience on Friday night!!! My friend and I sat in the Garden Room, which had no heat. When we requested heat, it blew out the lights, as the big fancy heaters out front caused an outage. Apparently, this happened the night before, so they were fully aware of a potential electrical problem. We had to use our cellphones to see the menu. We sat at the table in the dark for at least 20 minutes and it was cold, only to be brought a tea light and then our appetizer, which we couldn't see. We requested another table and they brought us inside next to the kitchen door. I had to hug the walls in the dark navigating from the garden room to the room with lights, as I was afraid I would trip or fall. Our new table next to the kitchen door was VERY loud and noisy (slamming doors). Lights came back on and they moved us AGAIN and our appetizer back to the Garden Room, only to be told that they can't put on the heat again. In the midst of our moving, a server stops us and tells us we can't sit at the garden table, but we explained that we were already there... hahaha bad communication... OK.. trying to be understanding, I now have to go to my car for my wrap... my friend had to keep her coat on and I my wrap throughout the entire dinner. I do understand things happen, but this was ridiculous. Service was good at the beginning, but not so good at the end. We had to find the waitress and ask for the bill. I gave her my credit card and she brings back just the bill, which I had already seen, and a pen... no credit card charge. I can't... You can't make this stuff up. I tell her about the comedy of errors and had suggested it would have been nice if the restaurant had done something for our inconvenience and she said the manager said "no". I requested to talk with the manager "Josh" who said he accommodated us by putting us next to the kitchen door... hahahaha... really? I told him it was his suggestion to bring us back to the cold garden. We were shuffled back and forth, only to sit with our coats on. He told us that the owner had to leave his dinner to fix the lights... OK, but what does that have to do with my experience. We sat in the dark for 20 minutes. I also told him I could have left the restaurant without paying, as they returned the bill only with a pen... UGH... he said that I wouldn't have done that... hmmmm Then all of a sudden a guy at the end of the garden got into our conversation and I felt muscled by him. Like a tag team... two guys against two women. Really??? My conversation with Josh was not heated at all. I was totally professional and to the point about the evening events. I had to ask his stranger friend to stay out of our conversation. His friend was incredibly rude and threatening. I'm thinking he could have been the electrician, but no doubt friendly with "Josh", the manager. Thereafter, Josh did become a little more condescending. I told him about his bad business policy. Too many restaurants out there. He could have offered a drink, a coffee, something. But didn't....after I decided it was enough and Josh wasn't getting the message, I just paid the bill, which was pricey. That's when he offered a gift card (amount unknown). I came here tonight with my husband. The food was good but I wouldn't rush to come back. We started with 2 cocktails. I had the passionate kiss which was tasty and my husband had their twist on an old fashioned. Ny husband thought there was too much bitters in his. Now for the food; I like how the staff came around and asked what type of bread we would like. We chose the pretzel brioche and semolina rolls, both very good. For an appetizer we had the duck con fit with waffle. It was tasty, I feel as tho the breading/skin on the duck needed to be crispier. For entrees my husband had the pasta special with a lamb ragu sauce. The pasta was fresh and good but the sauce wasn't great. I had the 5hr short rib special. The short rib was good but it could have been more tender. For dessert we had the chocolate soufflé with oreo banana gelato. The dessert was the best. It was everything you could want in a warm chocolatey dessert. Like I said, the food was good but I wouldn't rush to come back. The prices were pretty reasonable but portions are definitely on the smaller side. With restaurants like The Trattoria in the area and Oldfields/Ruvo a few towns away, they need to step it up a notch. read more

I honestly felt rushed at the table due to covid restrictions, we all want to get out and have some normalcy and enjoy. We decided to come back a 2nd time because Valentine's Day was good, so we thought we'd go for my birthday dinner but I wasn't impressed with the everyday menu it didn't offer to much variety, only 1 steak dish which was filet mignon.
