Quick lunch with college boy before touring his labs at North campus. He got the sweet and spicy chicken, I chose pad see ew with chicken and husband ordered cashew chicken. The portions are huge, the rice is fluffy and the staff is efficient and brusque. No Thai does a booming take out business, although we ate in this time. It's been years since I've dined at No Thai, but I've never tried this location. Service was good and quick and they had vegan options which I appreciate, but the Green curry that I ordered with medium spice was overpowering with spicy that seemed out of place with what looked like hot paprika or some red spice overlayed in the dish and also overpowering sweetness that was too much that it was off putting as I continued to eat until I couldn't eat it any longer that I didn't want to take the rest of it home nor did I want to finish it lest I get diabetes. It was not good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing and something else would've been better but as I recall my last review on No Thai years ago also was not favorable either. The dish was subpar compared to other Thai restaurants. Too sweet and too spicy both combined made for an overpowering (not in a good way) disappointing meal. We stopped by No Thai! on recommendation of a colleague while we were in A2 for business. If you're looking for a mom and pop with a variety of dishes specific to their Thai community, NT is not that. It's more of a "fast food Thai" option. They focus on a handful of "classic" Thai dishes, and allow you to customize your protein and spice level. Service was quick. The restaurant, while small, has several tables, including a high top bar near the window. We stopped by at 2pm on a Friday, and they still had several patrons eating at that time. My husband ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, spice level 4/5 (Yoga Flame). It came out completely white so he was concerned it would be bland, but said he was pleasantly surprised by the overall flavor. He's a lover of all things spicey, and felt that 4/5 wasn't quite spicy enough, but looks forward to trying other proteins with the full 5/5 spice (Dim Mak). The only critique he had was for the noodles- they came out as a clumpy, soggy mess and were difficult to separate. I ordered the Beef Pad Cashew stir fry with 1/5 spice (I'm a wimp!), and I thought it was flavorful and delicious. The beef was tender and veggies had a nice crunch. I have had some very good (4/5) and very mediocre (2/5) experiences here. Depending on the day/the staff, the chicken pad thai can be really good, but then on other days, it can be flavorless and watery and greasy. The pad thai sauce is often so subtle it seems like it doesn't have sauce. The noodles are often overcooked or undercooked. The worst thing is that, more than one time after going here (over 4 years), I felt the food may have been undercooked and may have made me sick. This was the case yesterday. I will have to throw the leftovers out. But on other days, the food was so delicious that I ate the leftovers for breakfast. read more

COVID ERA UPDATE: I placed an order over the phone while driving home from errands one night. 20 minutes late, our food was ready for pick up. I couldn't pay over the phone so I had to pop in to make the payment and it felt super safe. Everyone was masked up (from the front staff to the kitchen), all the seating was removed which allowed for easy distancing for those of us doing pick up (there were only 2 of us). Everything was packed up well and even after a drive home in the dead of winter it arrived piping hot. We'll definitely be doing it more often in the coming weeks. read more

By FAR the best place to eat in A2. For one, the price is really good, the serving of pad Thai/ whatever entree you get for $10, I find to always be more than one serving. I've tried multiple times, I just can't eat the whole thing in one sitting. You'll always have at least 1/4 in leftovers of the delicious, quality food. No Thai is good place to eat with friends and just chill. It is in the downtown area of AA so it is a good place to meet up with your friends after class for lunch or dinner. Or when you have night cravings you can always hit the place up and get it to go at eat and study at the library. I personally like the chill environment but I have to say No Thai can be a little salty. However it has good quality noodles and the employees there are super nice and let stuff slide. I always get the fried rice and drunken noodles. I really want to try the Yoga Flames but I don't know if my tongue can handle so I always end up with medium spice. Overall I think it is a place everyone should go at least once because it is a really good/well known place. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Walked in on a Thursday at 9:28pm with an open sign lit and no other customers, but a 10pm closing time staring us down at the door. After quickly placing an order for veggie pad thai (my friend had already eaten) I was met with a "just so you know this order will be put in a togo box/bag, we are going to be putting the chairs up, do you still want it?) I've managed bars and restaurants before. If I had ever overheard an employee saying this I would have corrected them and apologized. This woman was so rude I literally just walked out. She could have mentioned that BEFORE she let me rattle off my order, but maybe she sized us up and decided we needed to go? I live in Detroit and was headed to hear my friends play down the street so no super rude lady, I'm not going to eat it in my car on a 10 degree night. Is this a trend? If you always close your dining room 30 mins before closing then just put that on the door and say take out only, or tell customers upfront. Before we make any judgement about this American-Asian paradise of a restaurant, note the ONE $ meaning this place is cheap. No Thai consistently delivers much higher-quality food than you'd expect for the price range, and their variety of dishes have something for almost everyone. Their 5 different spice levels allow each dish to be birthed in two lights: the light, and the spicy. These are some of my favorites. Pad Thai: Probably their most popular noodle-based dish. Whether you're ordering to eat there or to do, the serving size is the same: big. There's no way you can eat a complete serving of honestly anything on the menu and be unhappy with the portions. The noodles are cooked to be super tender but still firm, so they capture and draw up your protein choice along with the spicy sauce of your choosing to deliver a very diverse and tasty bite. Occasionally you'll get some of the peanuts they sprinkle ever so slightly on top, delivering a crunchy bite and a rougher texture that's always a pleasant surprise. Combine these with a splash of lime that they always provide, and the flavors fuse together perfectly. This dish can be different depending on the level of spice you get. A 0 or 1/5 will be a typical noodle meal, while a medium and above will give it the No Thai signature taste. Drunken Fried Rice- No Thai offers three different fried rice dishes, each extremely similar. The Drunken variant includes similar vegetables to the others, but with a garlic sauce and no onions. My meat of choice for this dish is chicken--it blends in with the garlic sauce much better than the two other kinds, and you can count of having some in every bite. This dish always, always fills you up and leaves you prepared to handle the challenges of any night. A consistent and safe dish, I tend to spice this one up and get the 4 or 5/5 level of spice on this dish. Sweet and Spicy Chicken - Oh, Man. This is by far No Thai's favorite dish, no matter what time of day you can see many, many of these dishes being slid up onto the counter. The crisp, white rice comes piled on. It's fluffy, hot, and perfectly soft. The chicken is always coated to absolute perfection, the pieces are never the same shape so you always get a different experience of joy each bite. This is where you can really get hot. Dim Mak (5/5) or Yoga Flame (4/5) is a must if you're a spicy boi, but for fans of the savory over the hot, getting a medium and below can be just as heavenly as you can focus on the fusion of the chicken and the rice without breaking a sweat. One of my absolute favorite dishes of any place I've reviewed, and I have cravings at least once a week for this exact dish and a nice tall glass of water. Crab Wontons (Appetizer/Small Plate) - Listen here, I'm a hungry guy whenever I get a whiff of nothai. For me, these are an addition to a meal, but if you'd like a warm, tasty, creamy snack, these will do you very well. You can watch them being fried fresh, they come out to you on a nice platter with the ever so sweet plum sauce alongside. The tips of the crispy shell are browned ever so slightly, and the dry crunch in your mouth makes the next bite of the center even better. A healthy package of crab and spices, still warm from the hot oil of the fryer, can be so satisfying when a break from the typical No Thai spice becomes a bit much to handle. read more

I've tried more than half of their menu throughout the pandemic. Somewhat americanized but still works for me. My favorite is pad thai with tofu. It has been consistently great. My next favorite is sweet and sour chicken. I initially expected something like Panda Express version of sweet and sour chicken but it actually tastes out of scratch. read more
