My friend and I got some drinks to start which were good but nothing out of the ordinary. For our mains we ordered the burger with blue cheese fries and the chicken sandwich- I can easily say that the former stood out. After I saw the Laura Palmer cocktail on the menu, I was hoping there would be some damn fine cherry pie, but sadly the Twin Peaks references ended there. This review is 5 stars solely because of the broccoli taco. I don't know what was in the sauces since it was too dark sitting at the bar, but it was incredible. I must also praise the very effective taco architecture, with a hard taco skeleton and an additional soft taco layer for support. The crispy tofu sandwich was good and like a vegetarian version of a fried chicken sandwich, but felt quite heavy after just a couple of bites. read more

I'm a creature of habit when I visit no. 7: broccoli tacos, a plate of fries, and a glass of chilled white wine. It's a winning combo and I cannot be convinced to order anything else. I used to be a regular at their spot in Fort Greene and must say they did a great job recreating the ambiance at the Vanderbilt location. My partner and I like going to the bar and ordering from there, and we've always had good service when we do. Food has been cooked well in the past (we like the broccoli tacos, cheeseburger, grilled chicken sandwich, green salad), however we got takeout today and it was disappointing. Got the grilled chicken sandwich which was moist and tasty before, but this time the chicken was overcooked, chewy and dry. Different bread (a burger bun) used as well which was too soft - crisper, crunchier bread used before would have better balanced the soft grilled chicken. Didn't end up finishing the sandwich. Partner didn't care for the broccoli tacos this time either, just okay (he's gotten them for takeout before). If this had been my first experience I wouldn't go back. The stars are for our previous dine-in experiences, but I hope they get more consistent with the food quality. Weird weekend hours too which makes it hard to get over there. read more

I loved this place when I lived in Fort Greene. I loved the broccoli tacos, and I was sad when they closed down. To my surprise a while later I came across the new location, and it's pretty much the same. I immediately ordered the broccoli tacos and they are just as good as they used to be. It was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The blue cheese fries were so yummy, I'm glad I had some leftover for a little snack the next day. Have been meaning to try this spot since they moved to Vanderbilt. It was great! We were greeted immediately and given a nice table. Our waitress came over right away and was in an authentically good mood. Complimented my wife's sweater :) Good drinks. One of the best burgers I've ever had. And I don't say that lightly. A simple patty. Cooked perfectly. On a perfectly toasted but still soft bun. Dressed with some kind of sauce, modestly. An awesome melted cheddar on both sides. Spicy pickles on the side. For real gives corner bistro and minetta tavern a run for their money. Places I've considered to have the best NYC burger for decades. Very good McDonald's style fries. These had some blue cheese on them. Phenomenal. The rest of the food we had was really good too. Fried artichokes and a simple salad and a skate/shrimp dish. Yum. Good music. Good energy. Nice spot on Vanderbilt that's the right balance between fancy and affordable. The service is excellent and knowledgable about the menu. We had: - Double Decker Broccoli tacos - these were a delight and the hot sauce on the side is a dreamy delicious MUST add (a little) to take these tacos to the next level. The broccolli was a little saucey, I only mention that because the other flavors are phenomenal and the sauce (different than hot sauce) was a tiny tiny bit overpowering. Still delicious. - Smoked Duck - recc'd by waiter and worth every penny. Also they serve you a very fair and large portion 1/2 duck) served medium, comes with sautéed spinach which was nothing special but that's okay because the duck melts in your mouth. - Minimal Cheeseburger - delicious, juicy, cooked to perfection, again well portioned and the blue cheese fries were crispy but soft and not too thick or dry - Two Mezcal Campari Coctails That put us back about $110 (including tip). Popped in to the new no 7 on a weeknight this week and overall had a good meal, though I now know exactly what I'd do if I came back. While the cocktail list and cocktails themselves were fine, I'd grab your beer of choice or a classic cocktail and snag a seat at the bar. From there, I'd order the broccoli tacos (they pack a ton of flavor on their own but the add a few dashes of the sauce they'll bring out and it's a flavor explosion) and also a side of fries (as long as you like em McDonalds style). That's it - that's the order. If you absolutely must have a larger meal, I think the fried chicken sandwich was quite tasty. Tried the cheeseburger too but it was very minimalistic and frankly, very rare - didn't taste like much else than... meat. *shrugs* read more

No. 7 has become a new fave since it opened in Prospect Heights. Last week I noticed the grilled tofu and beans dish on their Instagram and had it for dinner. Filling and delicious, it struck me as an elevated beans and toast that I used to enjoy long ago. The crab stick and shrimp salad, cheese burger and green salad are also all very good. Welcome back, no. 7! This new/old spot is such a great addition to the neighborhood. We have so many good restaurants on Vanderbilt but have been sorely lacking an unfussy but elevated new American neighborhood spot. This checks all the boxes: food is great but not too pretentious or too expensive, and the cocktails are perfectly mixed. (I almost wept with joy when my watermelon mezcal drink wasn't sweet--why does everyone need to pour a pound of sugar into a watermelon cocktail?! no. 7 gets it.) We had no trouble walking in on a Saturday night but the place was doing brisk business. Super pleased to have them here and hope they're around for another 13+ years. read more

Deeply meh. Was really excited to try this place since we loved the old No 7 and No 7 subs (RIP). While their previous menus were "let's make the wildest possible combinations absolutely delicious," this menu was "what if we made pub food intentionally bad." Imaginative dishes but poorly executed. Broccoli tacos sounded interesting but were wet and bland. Veggie burger was soggy and sour, essentially a pickle sandwich. I know the menu will continue to rotate but I don't feel any need to go back. Really appreciated the attentiveness of our server but it started to feel a bit aggressive (checking in 4 times during our meal, clearing plates before we were through). And not to sound like a boomer but the music was way too loud. read more

I really want to give a better review here because I have really liked the service/staff, the chicken is great (on the rare occasion it has been available) and the rest of the food is pretty good for the most part, but it seems like they just can't get their stuff in order. I've been three times and have had a progressively worse experience each time. The first I ordered their Chicken. They did note upon ordering that they were out of that dish, then returned saying it was available but would take 45 min. It ended up taking an hour and a half but was absolutely delicious and because the wait staff was fun and attentive and gave us free drinks it made the wait bearable. My wife had the steak and it was solid. The second time I was in with a group of friends and someone at the table ordered the chicken...this time they were in fact out at 9pm. Across the table we had their fried chicken sandwich, burger and steak. Of those the burger stood out and the others were pretty good. For my birthday dinner I really just felt like their chicken so got a reservation at 8pm (making it early enough so that they couldn't be out of anything). Half of my party ordered it as well. After about 5 minutes our waitress came back to say that they were out of the chicken (again...for the third time in 3 visits...at 8pm on a Saturday). Some of the party didn't eat/want red meat and the only options for mains that didn't include red meat was fried food or a soup. While I was so impressed with this dish on my first visit, they've been out 2 of 3 times and it took 90 minutes the only time they had it. It just feels at this point they should have this figured out. I mean, it's chicken! How do you run out of chicken consistently?!?! and also, have some more alternatives of non red meat/fried dishes if you're going to run out of freaking chicken by 8pm. Again, I want to like this place but until they get things sorted there's just too many better options in the area. read more
