Dining room

For a random place in upstate New York, where good Chinese places can't be found + mindful this is during COVID season, this spot wasn't bad. 4 stars for COVID considerations and pleasant during my interaction. Here's what you really want to know: 1) It's was take out so I'm not rating them on dine-in experience 2) Place was decent, old-looking yet relatively clean ... No roaches nor griminesss was observed. 3) They take cash and card, which is always a plus for paying options. 4) I ordered beef chow fun = 3 ... If things are bad, it's either too salty or not salty enough. I guess add salt or soy sauce if not salty enough. You're damned if it's too salty. Although this was in the middle and not bad, it was missing that char and wok-hei. 5) Wife had gotten the chicken lo mein with pork fried rice. She said it was decent @ 3+, but said the fried rice was missing the scrambled egg. 6) Father in law had the roast pork egg foo young. He asked why was the sauce red, which I obviously don't have the answer for. He ate a 3rd and didn't finish his order but said it was edible and there was some tanginess that's not usually present. 7) I also had the hot and sour soup, which I'll give a 3. Taste was ok with savoriness and heat level but was missing the black vinegar taste. Besides the liquid, there was only 3-4 strips of tofu. Where was the wood ear and other goodies? 8) Service was relatively fast, about less than 10 minutes after order 9) Boatload of parking. There's more parking than available seating inside the restaurant. 10) They speak better than passing English and Mandarin I guess I miss having Chinese food so the thought to take pics of my food was forgotten - I'm not sorry. I'll go back and give them another shot.

I'm new to the area and have been trying different Chinese restaurants in Greene and Binghamton…read more They are all terrible. On a last ditch effort, we tried China Star. The food is excellent. The food is as good as the best places on Long Island. I try something different every time I go there. We have to drive over 30 minutes, but it is worth it. It looks like every Chinese restaurant I've been to, a little old and beat up. The staff are always nice and courteous. As for the review about the food not looking like the picture, every Chinese restaurant uses the same pictures, and pretty much the same menus. Do you complain when your BK Whopper doesn't look like the picture or the one on TV? It's a silly complaint. The other complaints from years ago don't stand here. From my experience, Chinese restaurants change hands every couple to few years. It may be under new ownership right now.

I was forewarned that finding a good Chinese food place in NY was a hurdle so started our quest…read morehere in our new home town with this place. We won't be back. The food was edible and we dined in the restaurant so our order was delivered to us pipin hot. Would love to say that the quality matched the temp but it was only meh for us. The most off-putting part of the experience was the young woman tasked with working the front counter. She was as unfriendly as one can be while cloaking the attitude in professional coolness. Her voice was abrasively loud and sharp and she took no prisoners - who needs that to whet their appetite? Plenty of other koi in the sea.
