NJ Transit has a kiosk in the Amtrak terminal within Philadelphia's 30th Street Station. It does not look like a NJ Transit kiosk and the purchase experience makes it seem like you are purchasing a train ticket but it only dispenses NJ Transit Bus Tickets which you do not realize until NJ Transit Bus Tickets come out of the bottom. There is no NJ Transit Customer Service or other agents in the station and there is no possibility of return or exchange. Unmarked and disingenuous by NJ Transit to the point of being fraudulent. Kiosk should be marked properly and the UI/UX experience designed to clarify it is for purchase of a bus ticket. Next complaint is to the NJ and PA DOTs and t 30th St Station to have the kiosk removed. Opened a complaint with NJT after Trenton based agents, while helpful, not empowered to do anything by bureaucratic design. Honestly, Defund NJT! read more

My husband and I now live in Richmond Virginia. We lived our entire lives in New Jersey. When I first started taking New Transit buses, in the mid eighties I was living in Clifton. The 74 bus came every fifteen minutes. It was a pretty good system. The 190 which travels to New York also arrived every fifteen minutes which meant my family friends and I could go to the city whenever we wanted to. Now? The buses are often late or don't show up at all. When some drivers see a green light, they will not pick up passengers! I once dealt with a driver who almost closed the front door in my chest as I was trying to board! Oftentimes drivers close the back door while passengers are disembarking. And they pull away before you can find a seat. Most drivers are rude and unfriendly, and almost never acknowledge passengers. Many buses are dirty and reek of wacky weed. And many drivers make passengers switch buses. New Jersey Transit never fixes anything and they raise fares three percent every year. Buses in Richmond are free. There are no steps there is a flat surface and passengers come right onto the bus. These buses are rarely crowded so standing room only is all but non existent. Drivers wait for people to find seats before pulling away, and they talk to passengers. If you are not sure where you're going drivers will tell you where the stop is, especially if you tell them you are new in town which my Steve and I are. For the most part buses are clean. If you say good morning to a bus driver they will say it back. If you say Have a good day when you disembark they 'You too, Mam, you too sir." It's like going from Hell to Heaven. read more

I've been trying to buy a bus ticket between Atlantic City and PABT. It seems that other than doing it in person - and risking your desired bus being full - you end up having to use their app. Not their website. No...no... no... The entire civilized world allows you to buy BILLIONS of dollars online. But Not NJT. Oh, no. And their app is IMPENATRABLE. I tried to buy a ticket for bus 319. It asks me to select Zones. How the hell am I supposed to now what zones to select? Then it says something about Dorado Park and Ride. And then it says to proceed to tickets and it's clearly got crazy prices. I know what it should cost. And it's not $10 for a senior ticket. So I call their help line and they put me in touch with the "app" department. It asks me to press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish. I hit 1 EIGHTEEN times and still got the same question - 1 for English and 2 for Spanish. Finally, I call the executive director's office and they send me to someone. He tells me - oh, you need to select 31 zones. And I say HOW FROM YOUR APP AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT???? Yes, we have a poor app. They know it and that's that - no interest in fixing it. read more

We are just coming up to a stop and the announcer mumbles something incoherently about some cars not opening for the stop.I went through 5 cars and none were available to open for my stop. I missed the stop and the staff was belligerent and said it was my fault. I was meeting a disabled person who was picking me up and had to painfully wait another hour Until I could get a train back.I hope they are happy their laziness got them home 5 minutes earlier so that my aunt could painfully wait another hour for my arrival. read more

The trains and busses are on Russian time schedules, that or they come and go at whichever time best suits the operators, most of whom have an inferiority complex and it shows. If you have an extra 45 minutes for unfortunate events to occur (things like busses driving right passed you in the rain without stopping. Trains that arrive early or sometimes not at all) then you're definitely riding NJTransit. Cleanliness has never really been necessary on their part either. read more

Only dependable as far as you can always expect some kind of delay or general inconvenience that'll make getting to wherever you're going more of a pain than it already was. Pretty dirty too, sometimes you won't be able to tell what youre looking at when looking out the window of a train since it's so dirty, it makes me wonder why they have them in the first place. Been having constant positive & negative experiences w/ the buses & the trains (more so the trains, the buses have been chill & cool for the most part) these past few years hopefully my expereince w/ the trains, the buses, the schedules gets more & more & more & more & more (x1000) more positive going forward. My experience when I first started taking public transportation was ALWAYS (for the most part) a good/great experience no complaints (especially on the trains).... these past few years though have been challenging to say the least. read more

Absolutely love the Ticket Collectors and Conductors. Always mannerly, polite, and available to redirect you if needed. Apparently however, if you don't speak English, just grunt and don't have a ticket, you're not required to purchase one. Doesn't really set a baseline for equality of service Or legal standards. Not really sure why the rest of us lifelong supporting clientele have to work hard to pay our way, follow the rules, making a consistent effort to uphold fair and equal standards. read more

I was extremely disappointed to witness the borderline-discriminatory and abusive treatment of perspective hires within NJT's HR department. With a wave a wand, they "disqualify" candidates whenever they or one of their HR colleagues decide they don't like someone. I was initially disappointed that a prime candidate was suddenly dismissed without reason in the middle of the process, but if HR is any indication of all of NJT, I am grateful that employment for this individual was inadvertently seized. read more

Overall positive for a first time railroad rider! There was QUITE a walk from our terminal in the Newark Airport across the walkway up above and then down to finally go up again and find the train station. Apple Maps was pretty unreliable as either the signal was bad or it had no idea what floor we were on. We tried to follow the crowd, which was mixed with the car rentals. But arriving from NJ-NY Penn Station was much quicker than expected and pretty smooth. We plan to ride back when we fly back and will always ride with NJ Transit read more

i am trying my part with climate change and going green by taking the nj transit to englewood nj (not really ).the nj transit has buses leaving port authority bus terminal and also from george washington bus depot in washington heights. really cant comment on the trains cause i never took one but the bus is the quick and easy way to get over the bridge and into jersey quickly i purchased my ticket at the nj transit ticket section. But you can also purchase tickets on board with the driver as well. MY trip took 25 minutes and leaves me steps from my destination. Overall I don't do public transit that much anymore but I give NJ TRANSIT 4.5 stars for getting us to jersey and back in less then a hour. read more

We were visiting recently and took the train from Oradell to Hoboken, to then take the Path into Manhattan. The conductor on the 9:30 am train was incredibly nice. He not only helped us by letting our family know which car we'd be able to find seats on together, but he also checked on us to make sure we got off at the right stop and found the Path trains. We also saw him helping a young mom with her toddler's stroller. Such a gentleman! If everyone were half as helpful and kind, what an amazing world we would have. read more

Used to be much better. But I constantly wait for 25+ mins past the bus eta specifically at river and 352 s of Thompson lane but also on gorge and walker and gorge and park etc. Worse I'll watch 3+ buses pass by as no service which makes no sense bc even if it's shift change why not bring one last haul w you, it's going that way anyway. Today I literally had 9 buses pass by between 345 and 430 as no service even though the apps were saying q bus was supposed to arrive at that moment. It's ridiculous. So disappointing read more

Horrible. I planned my trip around their online schedule and was there 2 mins early. When i got there they'll train was leaving the station and they wouldn't let me on the train. They changed the schedule. I so was furious. I don't recommend using NJ transit and will avoid using them again. Zero stars would be appropriate. My train was cancelled so I switched tracks to another train which shockingly was on time. I sit down on a packed train in the quiet car and realize the air temperature is suitable for Dante's Inferno. Seriously no AC in July! The train also smells like a. Actual sewer. Perhaps that is due to the proximity of sweaty butts in my face? In short a terribly run, dirty, smelly, and awful train. I expect better and for the money it should be better. I know that nothing 8s perfect, but the bus service 8s very unreliable. Too often the scheduled bus doesn't show up and then the problem 8s compounded by the bus that DOES show up sitting at a stop to remain "(n Schedule" when many of the riders are already BEHIND SCHEDULE. Idk about other bus lines but when you're trying to get to Newark Penn Station this is an immense problem. Just had a driver sit through 2 green lights because he was 2 mins ahead of schedule, but as previously stated, the bus before this 9ne was a no show. read more

Expensive. Rude. Never on time. And even when they're 30 minutes late, they do not explain, and they demand your money all the same. Your work schedule is nothing to them. I have been in every stop up and down the NJ transit structure, and I also drive. I have to take the train into nyc to get to work. And it is unreliable like you wouldn't believe. I have been locked in train cars for hours. Stranded. Taken to the wrong destination. Had the entire train car have to reverse through stations because of mess ups. How do I spend so much money in taxes and this is still the way it is? Here's a great example: Last week. I was leaving work one night in NYC Penn. The station there says it's making a stop at Newark Penn station. I get on the train, it's going to Newark Broad Street (nightmare). Whoops. My mistake. I think -- no problem, I'll get off next stop and go in reverse to Secaucus, and transfer (because that's what it takes). I wait at the station (11:00pm) for 40 minutes for the next outbound train in the opposite direction. My train is the 11:40pm to Secaucus. The time becomes 11:40, and a train pulls up to the track where my train is supposed to be. I get on -- logically. I sit down. And they begin to lock up the train when they announce "HOBOKEN ONLY". WHAT??? So I leap up-- and they let me off the train after scolding me. They had some nerve. The 11:44 pm train to HOBOKEN arrived at 11:40pm on the SAME TRACK. And then my train pulled up AT 11:44pm! THE HOBOKEN TIME. Tell me that isn't the dumbest thing you ever read. But wait--there's more!! It's a Friday night. No holiday, nothing special. I'm now on the train back to Secaucus to transfer. I arrive, and find out EVERY SOUTHBOUND TRAIN HAS BEEN CANCELLED. I AM NOW STRANDED IN SECAUCUS. And the time has become so late that I cannot return to NYC to get on the right train either. I had to call someone to come get me!! And today: my train was 30 minutes late and I paid a full price ticket anyway. I want to curse at them I hate these people. read more

The 119 bus is a literal joke. The 119 runs almost the same way as the 10 but the driver will not let you board the bus if you are traveling locally. So that means you can flag the 119 and they will stop the bus and ask "Where are you going?" if it's not past JSQ they will not let you board the bus. I was traveling from 26th & JFK street in Bayonne to Winfield & JFK (literally right under the bridge) and I have 3 heavy grocery bags and the driver would not let me on his bus.
