My sister made a reservation three weeks in advance for 8 of us to get massages. However, when we showed up for our appointments they did not have the reservation. My sister was told to call the owner and when she did the owner was very rude and tried to claim that it was our fault and that we needed to "conform" to her schedule. Isn't Nirvana supposed to mean paradise? What a disappointment. I wanted to treat myself with a $20 one hour foot massage at the end of a long hard week, but the front desk lady told me in a pretty rude way that there was no room available. No smile, no apologies, no other available option. I asked if I should come back later and she said that I could get a one hour full body massage for $50. I couldn't believe she could find a room for a $50 massage when she just insisted on the fact that there was no more space available. Anyway, it was late and I really needed a massage so I said yes. Well, I shouldn't have. The masseuse asked me if I wanted medium or hard and I said hard. Which was a good idea as I spent an hour wondering if I was actually getting a massage. I hardly felt a thing and didn't feel any better at the end of that long, useless, boring hour. In a nutshell: bad service, unwelcoming front desk lady, mediocre massage. Obviously I won't be back. Excellent place for a Massage! Yen, the Manager, greeted me on my first visit and shared the Menu of all services available. I wanted a Swedish Massage for 75 minutes and she suggested Hot Rocks in addition to the massage and I agreed. The Hot Rocks treatment was a definite PLUS. Need some TLC? Have a knot in your back? This is the place to go. This is by far my favorite Chinese food massage place. A 60 minute massage will cost you $20 and 90 minutes $30. I always go for the 90 minutes; heck, why not for only $30? I think this place is better than most fancy massages I've had (e.g. Massage Envy, Burke Williams, etc.) especially for the price. Unlike most Chinese foot massage places, this place has flat laying massage beds. It is clean and they don't talk your ear off. They ensure the place is appropriately dimly lit and quiet to lure you into a relaxed state and the massages are just right. They are attentive to your requests in spite of the fact their English isn't fluent. I've been here more times than I can count and I can say that I've never been disappointed. I usually find myself dozing off when they are working on my feet because it is just so relaxing. They offer other services like facials, full body massages, a sauna booth, etc. but I tend to stick to the foot massage. The full body massage in the private curtained off rooms are good but not much difference from the foot massage. Save your $ and stick to the foot massage; it's the best bang for your buck and so good you'll feel like your are a new person when done. Walk-ins are welcome but this place is quite popular and at times are full to capacity. I am a regular here so when the foot massage room (with 6 beds) is full, they take me to the full body room to accommodate. AMAZING.i just had the Thai massage with Tina ($75 for an hour - oils included). This spa is just lovely and a truly healing place. Tina massaged my back, arms, legs and feet, plus forehead, head, face, ears, hands from the largest muscles to the tips of my fingers and toes. Been coming here for many years pretty much every 2 weeks. Especially after traveling. Yan is great setting up the appointments and ensuring everything is perfect. Very relaxing rooms and many of the therapists are great, including Ivy and Lilly. Deep tissue (though if you want softer they'll do that) walking on back if you like, good amount of stretching too. I went there many times and like other reviews said it s kind of hit or miss it. Many times I requested for female only and I always made appointment ahead, they always say yes to you but when I arrived, they sent the male one and I have to keep repeating that I made appointment with female only. I feel comfortable to wear lose clothes for foot massage so I never wanted a male one and that is the reason why I asked for female. Last night I got the female as requested with no hassle back and forth, I hope they will keep it that way and respect the appointment or request. I found this place on yelp and decided to check it out with my friend. I got the combo one hour massage. It was supposed to be 30 minutes for the feet and 30 minutes for the body. I got to soak my feet in warm water for about 5 minutes. After that the woman directed me to lay down so she could massage my back. It was very relaxing. It was a little rough but it still felt good. After my "hour" was up I went to go pay. I told the woman at the register what I had done and also told her I wanted to add a tip to my bill since I was paying with a card. It was an additional $1 to tip on the card. No biggie. But then when I went to sign my receipt I realized they charged me an additional $5 on top of the tip and credit card charge. I asked the woman about it and she stated that I had oil added to my massage. I informed her that I did not have oil nor did I request it. She started discussing it with the woman who did my massage but I couldn't understand what they were saying. I ended up just telling them to forget about it cause it seemed like it was more of a hassle for them. After I left and spoke to my friend about her massage I realized I never had my feet rubbed! I was so relaxed I completely forgot about that part. Upon looking at the clock I also realized we were only in there for 40 minutes! So overall the lady got an extra $5 tip, I didn't get my feet rubbed, and we got shorted 20 minutes of massage time. Lesson learned. Cheaper isn't always better. read more

My friend and I went in for a massage appointment. Making the appointment over the phone was a bad experience in itself as the woman who helped us was actually rude during the call. We ordered a combo massage with the idea that it was a combo of back and foot. It was only back and butt actually, and some rough and painful scratching of the head that was anything but relaxing. The technique that they used (if you could call it that) was painful and not in a good way. A man massaged me and a woman massaged my friend. We both didn't like it at all and wished for it to be over soon, mainly because it was painful and uncomfortable, with abrupt movements and it was just not relaxing in the least bit. Mine ended about 20 seconds before my friends and I sat up quickly to see that the woman massaging her was watching a tv show on her phone (during the massage!) and she literally had the phone propped up against my friends back. This was the worst massage either of us have ever had and we don't recommend anyone going to this place. read more

My girlfriend and I went in tonight to relax after dinner. They came over with buckets for soaking our feet which had maybe an inch and a half of water in them, we asked for a bit more water and the therapist immediately grimaced then brought over a bucket and poured more in spilling on the floor carelessly to make a point that he did not like being asked to provide this reasonable service. Then after already taking our mood down, he had the audacity to say to my girlfriend "why so much water you must have thick feet" . Just plain rude,and when we complained the manager simply told us to keep quiet with no concern for how we were treated. The worst massage I've ever had. The guy practically was poking me for 60 min. The first 20 min I was laying on my stomach I told him I was uncomfortable and told him to just do my feet. I was clearly upset. Just felt like the rest of the time he was rubbing lotion on my feet. I have been here a few times and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, after the massage I just got, I doubt I'll be going back. I made an appointment on the phone and told them two times that I wanted a woman. They were 30 minutes late to see me... no big deal. Then they have me lat face down and the massage person comes in. I can hear their stomach rumbling a bunch and then they let out a huge burp. Half way through they ask me to flip over and I realize it's a guy. I figured they made me wait so they could have a female for me. No. I end up stopping the massage early because he wasn't even doing a good job. I really liked this place, so I hope I can give them a chance to redeem themselves. Update: They called me to apologize. I am going to leave my original post up because that experience might help somebody. Be sure to remind them if you want a female when they take you to the table, even if you reserved one. really bizarre place honestly. the atmosphere and decor in the place is very busy, dark and ominous feeling, closest thing that this place looks like would be an opium den. I should have trusted my gut and left from the feeling I got upon entering. the owner/manager is very to-the-point and rude. she doesn't create a relaxing experience at all. she ended up convincing my boyfriend and I to get the couples room even though we just wanted reflexology ($20 per person). don't get me wrong that's a great price...but in the end, we were charged $40 per person because of the "private room" and we only got our feet and legs worked on. I'm writing this review because I woke up this morning with bruises on the back of my legs. my masseuse was a VERY heavy handed dude and I motioned for him to go easier several times, but he kept working the same area deep deep deep, like to the bone. something strange that happened was when he moved onto my feet, he literally tickled my toes in a very creepy, controlling, almost sexual way. no thanks! I felt like he knew jack s*** about reflexology and it was just an awkward, repetitive foot massage. also, the entire time, all I heard were rapid whispers and little laughs between the masseuses ... I have been on 3 separate occasions. The treatments were all different and quite good. My dissatisfaction was with the financial end. When paying with cash; no problem (including a self-driven 25% tip). When I used a debit or CC they added 50% for tip without even asking me, then told me, that's they what is expected. I don't like this kind of business practice. I suggest using cash here - or finding out up front how they handle tips. read more

Every time I am in the Thousand Oaks area to visit family, my dad and I always get a massage. We've tried several different Chinese massage shops in the area and Nirvana was far superior than all the others for several reasons: Ambiance- it's dark, cool, quiet and furnished nicely. The massage chairs are comfortable and it's the perfect setup for a relaxing experience. Masseuse -we've had massages from Anna, Wendy, Judy and Emma and they all do an amazing job. They put forth a lot of effort and listen to our requests. I like hard, deep massages and all of them always listen. Overall experience- easy parking, good prices and helpful staff. My fiancé and I came here with our wedding party which came out to about 11 people. It was such a last minute decision but When we called the same day hoping we would be able to get massages for everyone. Yan was sweet enough to accommodate our large party between two back to back time slots. She did everything she could to help us enjoy and relax within all the wedding chaos. Each person had their own separate partitioned room which was private enough. If and when customers did make too much noise in the waiting area, the masseuses quickly shushed them as to not disturb the quiet and calming environment that was being provided. I did the infrared sauna here and it was great! I thought $30 for 45 minutes was a pretty good deal. The interior is beautifully decorated - like a dimly lit, whisper quiet opium den (in a good kinda way). A welcome escape from the TO suburbs. I love going to the Korean spa, so I'm used to all sorts of saunas, but what I really like about the infrared sauna is that it heats you directly instead of all the air around you, so you can get up to a much higher temp (mine got up to 129 degrees) but it's still comfortable to breath. I mean it's HOT, but overall it feels much more relaxing than restricting. I had no problem staying in there the full 45 min, when usually I can only stand about 15 min in a regular sauna. The staff is super friendly. The lady kept checking in on me and advised me to drink more water so I'd sweat more and even brought me bottles of water and refilled them for me. I appreciated their attentiveness. I paid by credit card and there was no extra fee or mandatory tip, as another reviewer noted. Afterwards you can take a quick shower in the bathroom next to the sauna. Which is good because you will SWEAT. Also, as another reviewer noted - while the sauna itself is private (one person at a time) it's not in it's own private room. They give you a lightweight robe to wear and a basket to put your things in, which you can see through the sauna door in front of you. Another bonus- they're 2 doors down from Lassens so you can pick up a kombucha afterward. : ) I'll definitely go back and maybe try their body scrub & sauna package next which looks awesome. read more

I'm not a massage maven by any stretch...but the massage I received last week maybe the best massage I've ever had. How this tiny woman can be so strong, so firm, and so effective...for 120 minutes...is a medical mystery. Both of us walked out...refreshed, relieved and content. The owner is just...a doll. I normally don't write a review because I am kind of lazy...but I felt sorry when I read a couple of previous negative reviews of this place and I feel I need speak out my experience with the place. I have been to many massage places in this area and Nirvana remains to be my favorite. I have been coming to this place for more than 5 years at a frequency of 4 times a month. This is a safe, clean and cozy place, the massage therapists are highly skilled. Due to a backpain problem, I normally go to male therapists and I found their services very professional. I have not had any bad experience which is quite unusual because I could be quite picky on the level of the therapists' skills and experience. I also tip well as a respect to their hard work. To be honest, $30 an hour foot massage is very low comparing to other services and you get the most out of your money worth for a nice experience of body recovery and healing. Sammi L. read more
