I've been to Crystal Palace Massage and while the massage therapists themselves are just okay, the overall experience was really overshadowed by the front desk interaction. The man at the front desk who wears a baseball cap--who I believe is either the owner or manager (I think his name is Mark)--was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Customer service matters, especially in a business that's supposed to promote relaxation, and unfortunately his attitude did the exact opposite. The massage itself was fine, nothing exceptional, but the lack of kindness, professionalism, and basic courtesy from management makes it hard to recommend this place. read more

I'll be honest I didn't have very high expectations for a full body massage since it's technically a foot massage place. But let me tell you, not only was the price affordable but Alice was so attentive and got all my knots out. I was a bit weary since often times Chinese massages can be a bit vigorous but she was not at all. She used hot towels and rocks and got in there with her elbows using slow deliberate motions. This was the grossest most ghetto massage parlor I've ever been to. Not only was the massage terrible, but there was an old man moaning and blowing his nose loudly behind a curtain. To say my friend and I were uncomfortable is an understatement. The place smelled like feet and BO and I instantly had a bad feeling, but felt bad walking away. Since the change over in ownership, it started out ok. The lady at the front was very pleasant. But recently the guy in the front has become a salesman trying to upsell you, trying to usher you into one of the draped rooms instead of the bay area of beds. What use to be the perfect hour of relaxation, the regular foot massage, now is turned into strictly a foot massage with little massage of the rest of the body. He now is directing the massage therapists to do things different and not start with the shoulders and neck like they have always done. And to make it worse, he's rude and irritable. And clearly stressed out by overbooking the schedule. If you make an appt with a certain therapist they said was available, be prepared for them to give that therapist away before you get there and make excuses. He should not be performing massages himself. He's the desk guy. What a shame, something that was so good is now gone downhill. So disappointed! If the owner is reading this, you need to go back to how things were. There's is a whole community of people who came who liked things the way they were. Without the upselling strategy that other Chinese massage places do. Have more integrity in your business practices or it will negatively affect business and people coming back. And reading the most recent comments, it is not acceptable to demand cash only or require a certain high tip. This is America, a free country where a tip is optional and based on service quality. You'll have generous tippers and some that are not. When you demand a certain tip, you'll get yourself a bad Yelp review calling you out. The cheapest legitimate Chinese foot massage that you can get at this place. Like what others have said...foot massage is really a full body massage with a foot bath. The only thing to note is that you're in the open co-ed area, but don't worry you won't need to strip naked. In fact all of your clothes stay on but they will reveal your back in some way. There's warm water to place your feet in at the beginning and they finish off the massage with super comfortable hot stones. Bless. Luckily there was no annoying cigarette odor that other Yelpers have complained about. I've had about three different massage folks help me out. To be frank, they're not really professional like what you'd expect from a $100+ massage place but I can't expect much because the price is really, really cheap. So don't expect 5-star quality service! If you have specific requests and can't really communicate to the masseuse in English/can't speak Chinese...just say "ànmó" and point to the area of pain. ànmó means "massage" and they should understand. A fellow masseuse told me that and hopefully it works! Otherwise, they would just move on to their routine massage. I would upgrade to the private room if you really need the attention. I would also say come in with shorts and tank top/very loose shirt. If you're a guy, you would most likely just take off the shirt as I've seen many male customers do. The reason is because the first portion of the massage is you standing upright while they deal with your back. They need to go up to the shoulders. It seems like this place had a lot of updates. They changed management team and the environment look a lot of nicer. The new manager says that they are doing more upgrading not only on the place but also on the services. They have different choices like foot, body, combo and deep tissue. They also have some add on items like Chinese medicine, essential oil. I tried the Chinese medicine for a full body massage since I have bad shoulders problems and it worked like magic. In general, how much can you really expect for a $20.00, 1 hour massage? Most people pay a little more, but you can find coupons to make the final cost $20.00 which I think is a steal! The positives are that this place is really affordable, did I mention $20.00 for an hour? Although it is called a foot massage, it really is a basically a whole body massage with most of your clothes on. The hour starts with a foot soak while they work out some knots and tension in your upper back and shoulders. Then you lie on your back as they give you a nice, face, should and scalp massage. The masseuse then moves to your hands and arms and tops this off with a thorough foot and lower leg massage. Again, this is all for $20.00! Once done with your feet, they ask you to turn over onto your stomach so that you get a full on back and should rub, along with some calf and hamstring work. This is topped off with oil rub down on your back, culminating with some hot stones...all for $20.00! Men typically take of their shirts, while leaving their bottoms on. For my wife, they do some work to move her shirt around get her back done properly. I have seen some some women remove their shirts and get the massage done in a sports bra. This seems like a good idea for women to get the most out of their experience. The only reason I don't give Crystal Palace 5-stars is due to the fact that there is somewhat constant turn over of the staff there. So at times, the massage experience can be somewhat inconsistent. The language barrier is there, but not really an issue. The owner/manager seems to be able to communicate well. To start: I get massages a lot. I don't mind the cheap places. I don't expect them to be the Four Seasons. I know what I'm getting: cheap formulaic massages that are pretty good, usually in a communal setting. Also, I know I'm going to a place where they only speak Chinese fluently, English barely, and I'm OK with that. I use Google translate to list my issues I'd like addressed and then show the Chinese translation to the masseuse. Most are like 'thank you. Very helpful' and then do a great job. I went to this place a few time. Found someone I liked and requested them this time. The massage was so bad I got up and left, something I never did before. It was downright terrible. I paid for the portion of my time used and walked out. The manager came after me demanding more. I said 'this was terrible and nothing I mentioned was addressed. I paid for the time used.
