On the day of the appointment, there was no confirmation, and when I reached out, she had the time wrong. When we arrived, there was only one massage table and we were moved around while they tried to "get a room ready." The setup felt unprofessional, with awkward spacing and dingy linens. Despite clearly requesting two female therapists, a male and female entered and began touching us without consent. When I stopped them and asked for the owner, she pressured me to accept the male therapist and even touched me herself without permission while explaining why it should be "fine." We decided to leave due to how uncomfortable the situation became. As we were getting dressed, the owner pulled the curtain open while I was in my underwear. My husband booked me an appointment here because my chronic pain was flaring up. I usually go to Expanding Wellness and I absolutely adore her, but since it was last minute this was the only place he could find an appointment at and the reviews were decent. My first impression wasn't great because it was too cold and I noticed that only curtains separated the rooms, even the "walls" between rooms were curtains. It was very clean and the staff was friendly but in my opinion it was a fake professional feeling and they were in fact very unprofessional during my massage. Once I got in the room I was already uncomfortable as there was no door or real walls and I could hear a lot of men coming in and out as I was getting undressed, the room I was in was the first room as you enter the business, it was basically the lobby with a curtain put up, and you can hear everything going on outside the building including people's conversations, dogs, the parking lot and street traffic. During my massage they opened the curtain a few times (which opened directly to the lobby- with male voices,) they switched the masseuse in the middle of my massage without explanation, and I kept feeling/ hearing the masseuse using her phone during my session she would sit the phone on the massage table next to me and read messages coming in and I could feel it touching me on my head, thighs and feet(even dropping it on me once) she would be texting with one hand while "massaging" with the other. Then this one is the kicker... I was laying with the top of my buttocks exposed in the middle of my session and the masseuse stopped massaging me for a minute then I heard her take a few pictures on her phone a couple feet away from me in the room. I can only hope it was a selfie or screenshot and not of my body. I was alone so I felt uncomfortable saying something in the moment and also I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't malicious, but I think people should know what they are potentially getting into if they get a massage here. The more I have been thinking about it the more I wish I would have said something and walked out in the middle of my session. Not a pleasant or relaxing experience, the massage was just OK and considering about 20% of the time she was on her phone focusing on texting or taking pictures with one hand that's not surprising. I definitely went home more stressed than when I went in. I will not be returning and I will be letting anyone I see asking for recommendations in the area of the experience I had here. read more

This time a different person gave me a massage and the worse experience, I am in pain, but not a sore pain. She was digging her elbow into the spine of my neck and I would tell her it hurt and then she would stop and a while after do it again. Then the weirdest part, is how the heck is scratch the crap out of someone scalp supposed to be relaxing. Towards the end of massage, it got worse, she was scratching and digging her fingers into me as if she was purposely doing it, I eventually told her to stop to end the massage. Where do I begin? I prepaid online and when I stepped in the lady who "greeted" me said hello and then promptly said "let me see the confirmation". I found this odd because shouldn't staff also receive a confirmation? I tell her I booked an hour Swedish massage but that I only want upper back. She then takes me to a back room and tells me to take everything off, I told her again I only want upper back. She says okay. I get ready leaving only my pants on and ended up waiting there on the table for about 10 minutes before someone else (another lady) came in. She abruptly removes the entire blanket off me and says "oh you're wearing pants, you take them off, you be more comfortable". My first thought was, what if I was only in my underwear? Or completely naked? I let it go but I told this lady I only want back, neck/shoulder. She says okay but then not even 5 minutes later she asks me again to take them off, I told her no. About 20 minutes in I understand why she was so adamant.. I don't think she knew more than 3 or 4 massage techniques to perform (if you can even call it that). From pinching my neck like a taco to feeling like she was pounding my back like a slab of meat... I had to tell her two or three times that I didn't like it (because it felt like she was just hitting me). Multiple times it felt like she was zoning out because the pressure would get lighter and felt distracted ( another reason why I think there was pressure to do full body). Lastly, she kept asking me "is this okay" so many times that the few times I was able to relax a little bit it pulled me out of it. Multiple times throughout that whole hour I kept hoping it would be over soon, but I paid for it so I stayed. Obviously it was my mistake even stepping foot into this place. I've had plenty of messages in my life and this one was one of the worst. I don't say that lightly because I get we are living in hard times and it's tough out there. I respect the toll it takes to be in the line of work and to be physically giving all day but... my god not only did she make me feel uncomfortable but come to find out she's not even the lady I booked. When I get to the front she's waiting for me in the lobby saying I have to pay. I was very confused because I paid online... it seems there was no communication from the first lady I spoke to and the one who actually did the "message". I told her I told the other lady, she still demanded to see my confirmation email and then said she had to call the owner "to confirm". Then she demanded I tip her! Usually, I do tip, but the combination of everything and now she was demanding I give her a tip? Not asking- demanding. She said "everyone tip, why don't you?" was SO rude. She wouldn't let me leave and acted as if I didn't pay for the service at all. I won't say her name because I have ZERO intention on going back- but ALL OF THAT TO SAY- do not come here. I got an appointment easily...on a Sunday late afternoon. The reception and customer service was excellent. I had low expectations! But the facility was clean and newly remodeled, really nice! I had "Frank" for a 90 minute deep tissue...he was adorable and spunky and really nailed it. The rooms are separated by curtains, which is less private, and I could hear the "bing" of the door when someone came in, as well as the sound of the microwave heating someone's meal (which I could then smell). I received my second myofascial massage and it IS AMAZING! I have looked all over Ventura county for years without success. On my regular trips to Boulder, Colorado, I would get them there. I was excited to find this new spot for massage. It is in a strip mall right next to a dog grooming business. Of course that does take away a bit as wait for it... dogs sometimes bark. Having said that as I am a dog lover I was ok with that. I requested a woman for my slow, gentle Swedish massage. I am older, have problematic areas of my body so I need gentle. I don't want to leave feeling stressed and in pain and on top of that, and in this case feeling disrespected and manipulated. I got on the table trying to relax. It can be hard going to a new business, and of course a new massage therapist. Anyway I have to say, this is one of the nicest looking, reasonably priced massage businesses I've gone to and the music is soothing rather than aggravating. But someone came into the room. I asked their name and I heard a deepish voice giving a man's name. I was shocked! I clearly asked for a woman. I asked for the manager and she just gave excuses. I stuck it out but besides it being a man he was not slow and gentle, and threw in Thai/stretching. I tipped him regardless as she said he was new but this was not ok. I shall not return. I shall not recommend to anyone on other review sites or apps. In fairness I talked with a psychologist friend and he said it was probably a cultural thing. Customers needs should be the priority. I heard everyone coming and going. The owner was very nice. Since I couldn't speak to my therapist I couldn't tell her what areas to work on. She did not pinpoint my problem areas. I could have asked her during my massage to get someone who spoke English. A mirror in the room would be helpful, I have no idea what my hair looked like when I left. NEVER COMING BACK. I came here on Valentine's Day with my girlfriend and we had a bad experience. First thing, we came for 45 min appointment and one of the ladies kept pressing me and my partner to do 1 hr. She wanted to charge us more. After multiple "nos" she kept insisting. Finally we told her we had a reservation to go to and she let it go. She mad dogged me so hard before it was finally over. Second, the beds are unpleasant. I had a headache afterwards from the massage bed pressing against my head. It left a mark on my forehead. Third, the ladies gave my and my partner a half *** massage. It was like they were barely even trying. For something they do everyday they are not any good at it. Fourth, they were speaking in their native language the entire time during the massage. We could not relax at all. We also felt that it was targeted at us.Fifth, to tip it all off I was going to give a $15 tip when they spoke in their native language and then the lady nagged for more.
