This pizza parlor (does anyone use that term anymore?!) has been going strong for decades. To be honest I was always partial to Nino's III in Kearny - much closer to where I used to live and their chicken-and-broccoli slice was a thing of beauty. (I believe Nino's II existed for a quick moment up there in North Arlington but my memory ain't what it used to be.) After driving past (the original) Nino's on the way home from work for the last few months I realized I was overdue for a visit. First thing: from the outside it looks a bit weathered but inside? It's vibrant and lively and eased my initial concerns. (As soon as I walked in at the very first table was a little kid and his abuela. He made it a point to interact with me coming and leaving and that kid made my day... he's getting 5-stars for being awesome!) As for the pizza... it's a respectable "large" - they ain't skimping, which is a nice change of pace. (Hats off to the pizzaiolo because it wasn't a true/normal/expected circle but something closer to a Reuleaux triangle mixed with a squircle.) Geometry aside... the pie tasted good. Nothing flashy or fancy - just a legit (thin) pie. The (steak) fries were a bit bland and boring, I can't lie. And their cavatelli and broccoli was... decent. It would've benefited from a bit more 'pop' (salt, olive oil, garlic, you name it.) I haven't been here in eons and I hope they'll be around for another 40-something-years. Worth mentioning: it's one of the very few pizzerias to have a liquor license. This hidden gem in the Harrison Shopping Plaza serves some surprisingly delicious pizzas. We tried a pepperoni slice, a chicken slice, and a plain Sicilian slice. The pepperoni and Sicilian slices were particularly impressive, and I would even say this is the best Sicilian pizza I've ever had. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty pizza experience. This is the spot for a pie in Newark. Local buddy recommended for lunch. I had twice slices, bbq chicken and a meat lovers. It's exactly what you'd expect it to be and that's a great thing. There's two sides to the restaurant, order at the counter and pick a slice or two or have full table service. We did the latter since we went in a hurry. Service was great. Quick with drinks, special were great. The sandwiches were top notch with homemade bread. I'll go back when in Jersey. Decided to order from here in a pinch because my regular pizza spot was unexpectedly closed. The staff was friendly and the service was quick but the food was nothing to write home about. We got two large pies and a chicken parm dinner. The pizza was superrrr undercooked. Really floppy slices, we needed a spoon to scoop the toppings back on to our plates. It was also incredibly over salted, for a regular cheese pie it was all salt. The chicken parm itself was great, thin cutlets perfectly cooked. The pasta was also deliciously al dente. What ruined it for me was their sauce. It was all sugar, way too overly sweet. It wrecked the whole dish for me. Meh, this was nothing special and not worth a trip back. Went on a Saturday when there was a Red Bull's games and they had every table reserved. (Tip: they only take reservations during Red Bull's games.) We sat near the counter and our server was in no rush to get to us. We waited so long that my friend we up to ask if we should just order at the counter. Eventually we got menus and silverware. The bonus here is they serve beer. Thank goodness I ordered the eggplant rollatini and 2 slices, a margherita and a veggie. In my opinion the sauce is too sweet and the crust is very average. There was a nice amount of basil though. The Eggplant was ok. Pretty forgettable. This is Jersey, there's decent pizza in every town. This place is not so fabulous that I can see for making a trip back. One more tip to add, try not to park in the lot. We ate then walked across the street to Seabras to do a shop, the walked to a friends house where parking is scarce and our car got towed. $240 later I find out that the pizza joint gets a little bit of that towing fee for each car. We just dropped our daughter off at her college and helped her to get her room setup. It was late so we jumped on to Yelp to find something good that was open nearby to our hotel. We found Nino's. The Red Bull soccer match had just finished a little while before we got there so traffic was bad. Lots of detours before we made it to Nino's. From the outside, it looked like it was a small place but we decided to give it a try. We found out that they do have another room with tables so we were able to sit quickly. The restaurant was busy with a lot of the soccer fans. Our waitress seemed to be a bit pissed off and had some attitude. But she took our drink order and then brought out our drinks. She then took our order and we ordered pizzas and a Stromboli. As we walked in, I saw a table getting a slice of Sicilian (square) pizza that looked fantastic. So we got a couple of slices of Sicilian, some pepperoni and a chicken veggie Stromboli. Overall the food was good. The slices are big. The sauce on the pizza seemed a little sweet for my taste but still better than just about anything I can get at home. My wife enjoyed her Stromboli and my son enjoyed the pepperoni pizza. Being NY/NJ area, I'm sure that there are plenty of other pizza / Italian restaurants to try as well. I would stop here again for a quick late night bite. read more

For years I'd pass by Nino's while going to either the Rite Aid or the Quick Check in this Harrison strip mall. All those times though, I never thought to check out the pizzeria. Only recently did my boyfriend and I stop in for a bite to eat. And I must say it was awesome! After our homemade pizza at home didn't turn out as expected (left that dough out too long), I came up with the suggestion that we go to Nino's. My boyfriend was game, so off we went. We drove over since we didn't need to worry about parking. The strip mall has ample parking. There are two sections - one is more of a sit-down, dining area where a waitress will take your order, and then there is the more casual pizzeria where you can either sit at one of the tables or up at the bar. We decided to sit on the pizzeria side at one of the tables. The girl who took care of us was really nice. We ordered Blue Moons, two veggie slices, a mesculin salad, and a side of broccoli rabe. I got the white pizza with spinach for delivery. It was delivered quickly and on-time. The three stars is because the pizza isn't very good. I have been a long time customer of Nino's however I have recently noticed an enormous decline in the quality of the Harrison location. I ordered a specialty pizza 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 meat lovers along with a side of garlic knots. I was informed that my order would be delivered within 25 minutes. I had to ask what the total cost was because he was about to hang up without informing me. After around 50 minutes I called back to ask what happened to my order. She told me that it had already left the restaurant and would be here soon. I thanked her and got ready to go outside to receive my pizza. After another 45 minutes I called back to ask what had happened because I was told that my order had left the restaurant and it is only a 4 minute drive to my home. She said that my order had left 10 minutes before my last call and will be here shortly. I informed her that I did not want a pizza that was cold after riding around in a car for an hour, and that I was not happy and wished to speak to a manager. She put me on hold for another 10 minutes during which time the lukewarm pizza showed up. While I sent my wife down to check if the pizza was cold or not whom ever was at the restaurant disconnected my call. My wife accepted the pizza because she said she felt bad for the delivery driver. The pizza was not freezing cold but the cheese had congealed and the grease had hardened as well. No one from the store called me back to inquire about my issues. The customer service is horrible and the pizza was mediocre. Niño's has lost a long time customer not because of a late delivery but because they hung up on me when I asked to speak with a manager and never reached out to me after making several calls regarding my order. read more

One of the best Italian pizzerias in town. The people themselves make this spot such a heartwarming place. I've recently found on Pinterest a cool pizza idea for our Cat in the Hat theme. I decided to go and ask if they would make me the pizza shape I had saw. With no hesitation Maria exclaimed how happy she would be to do so. To top it off they accommodated my delivery time as well. On another occasion I've been here for dinner. The restaurant side is nice. They have a huge television screen in their restaurant side and I'm sure it's even better when watching sports. I can only speak for the pepperoni and the buffalo chicken pizza. I got a slice of each and really enjoyed both. Wide slices, not too thin, but not too thick, and not greasy at all. You know how sometimes you fold a piece of pizza in half to make it easier to eat and sometimes grease drips from the crust onto your plate? Well this didn't happen with this pizza. $6.75 for two slices. Not too expensive, but I've had comparable pizza for cheaper. The staff was very friendly and really prompt. They have beer on tap, but I'm not sure I would ever go here to sit down and eat, nor would I go here for the NFL games on Sundays. This place advertizes that it has the DirecTV Sunday Ticket, and that you can catch "all the games, all the time, on NFL Sunday." Maybe you can, but you might be watching 9 or 10 games on one TV. Why? Because they only have 3 or 4 TVs. I hate when places do this! If you're going to buy the NFL ticket, you ought to buy enough TVs to support all of the 1:00 games, don't you think? read more
