You know I have been coming here for years. The only reason I come here is because it's within a mile of my house. Every time I have been at this place the customer service has sucked. Maybe its me but the people who always serve me barely speak english and they are very curt with me when they took my order. Whenever I get my sushi its usually good. There's probably a reason why I hadn't come back to Ninja Sushi for a while. After our workout, my fiance and I figured we'd wait for the traffic to die down and grab some food in Aiea. Ninja Sushi is located in the shopping complex with Ichiriki, Tony Roma's, and Makino Chaya, except they are downstairs. There's a lot of parking, but if you come during peak hours (dinner time), then good luck finding parking. There's parking upstairs too. There is a stairwell near the center of the building, which is exactly where Ninja Sushi is located. The staff is generally friendly, I guess. Didn't have much interaction with anyone other than the cashier. He was timid and rather soft. But my order was correct, so that's a good sign. The establishment is clean and very well-lit. A lot of tables for you to sit and enjoy your meal, should you decide to stay. Seems as if most people opted to take-out their sushi, though. Now the important part: the sushi. Most of you know that I love sushi. Love, love, love sushi. But... Ninja Sushi fell short last night. Yes, it isn't the authentic, high-grade sushi/sashimi I love. But, sushi rolls are good too. We ordered the Superman, Volcano, and Tornado. They were all good, not great. Kind of like, "meh I'm full." There's also hot tea at the counter for free. The tea was a little watered down for my taste. Not quite my cup of tea. (See what I did there? Better luck next time?) Anyway, if it were up to me, I'd be pretty hesitant to come back. My tummy wasn't too happy following the meal. It may be an isolated incident, so don't rest your decision on that little bit of information. This place isn't bad. its not the freshest or the best quality fish but its pretty substantial when you're hungry. I usually choose to get 2 rolls for myself or 3 rolls if I'm with one other person and we usually end up pretty full. All the rolls are pretty good but i would say to watch out for some if u don't like a lot of sauce because some may pack more sweet sauce than others. i haven't really tried any other item besides the rolls, tako yaki or s few other nigiri items, but the rolls are what make it worth eating at Ninja Sushi read more

This place is a good Kozo sushi alternative, which the old folks like. However, keep in mind, this is NOT a nigiri sushi emporium -- this is take out sushi (though you can eat there, I guess). It's a lot of rolls with a lot of california-inspired style with sauces/toppings and combinations. It's quick, it's good, but you're not here to sit down and enjoy, you're here for a quick flavorful bite that acts as a lunch substitute. Gyoza is ok, and certainly I think a few of us could cook the same thing at home from a pouch, but it works for when you visit this place. Nothing really wrong with Ninja Sushi. I only tend to order the Spicy Ahi Donburi. But I'm totally bummed that they don't automatically include ginger as their garnish. Because I ordered from Bitesquad but forgot to include "ginger & shoyu" in the order comments and now my Spicy Ahi Donburi isn't the same :( The spicy ahi to rice ratio (for tonight's order) is awesome, though! OKAY, update!!!! Changing from 3 stars to 1 star because of what JUST happened. I was about to take a bite from my Donburi, but as I brought my chopsticks to my mouth, I noticed some of my rice dangling and hitting my lips. As I pulled my chopsticks away, I noticed a strand of white hair mixed in my spicy ahi/rice mixture. WTF!!! Of course I've had better quality, but for a quick bite it was satisfying. They have a variety of different sushi, plates, and udon. I decide to ease them into sushi the slow way... Ninja Sushi is a good beginner sushi place. Their variety is okay, the portions are okay for the amount you pay, the quality and freshness is just OK, everything about this place is average in a way I do not reject. I usually have a sweet tooth when I go out for sushi, so I get Unagi (eel) based rolls/bowls. A secret roll that they have that's really good at this location is the SUPERMAN roll. Never again. When you walk into a place during rush time for lunch and there is no one in there...then you know something isn't right... LISTEN TO YOUR GUT! ha! It was between Down to Earth's food bar, or Ninja Sushi. Of course my lunch date opted for the sushi. Upon walking in I knew that this was not going to go well for me. The establishment was clean enough; however, I got the feeling there may be some areas that have been overlooked. I really did not want to eat raw seafood here. My foodie intuition was dead on! I got sick soon after eating the nigiri. I ordered the nigiri and dragon roll, and I only ate half of the nigiri before getting this weird feeling in my tummy. I should mention, I am sensitive to dairy, gluten, and some other things...but I think it had nothing to do with that. In fact the fish tasted really funny. I have eaten some really fresh nirigi and I can tell the difference. I stopped eating half way through it, and the free tea was old and recycled so that further made me queasy. I went home and took some digestive aid's and activated charcoal in case I was getting food poisoning. I did end up bloated for a day after but I think taking something as a precaution prevented me from getting really ill around the gills. I will not be coming back. The whole experience was terrible. I have two stars because the owner at the counter was very nice, and very sweet, and the service was fast. read more

We came here today for lunch to try some sushi. I'm a sucker for sushi! They are located at the west ridge shopping center. We ordered the superman since I read some of the reviews about how good it was. It was ok. We also ordered several other things but the best item was the takoyaki! It was nice and creamy in the middle and had large chunks of tako!!! I must say that out of all the reviews that I read about the different dishes that people raved about, I didn't see many about the takoyaki. But it was the bomb!!! My top spot for take-out sushi~ I'm not into spicy foods so let me tell you that their spicy ahi isn't really spicy at all. But that doesn't mean it isn't delicious!! I love thier spicy ahi combo bento and the lady is always kind enough to switch the set nigiri to salmon nigiri in the combo. I was never ever a fan of sushi. I use to avoid every sushi spot. But this place- has won every piece of my heart. Just recently, I was craving sushi (which never happens to me). My other half decided to take me to this particular location. This place has lots of space. The seats here make my butt sore sometimes I wish it was cushioned. Anyways, I liked how you could help yourself to some hot tea and some water. There are pictures of different types of sushi from the moment you walk through the door until you get to the counter. Choosing which type of sushi to eat is always the hard part. Let me tell you tho, their Tiger Maki looks just as good as it tastes. I absolutely L-O-V-E it! I also love their Spicy Ahi Inari. It is full of flavor that I always somehow end up getting a major foodgasm. I always seem to want more after having just one. The people that work here are very nice, especially that one older lady (I can't remember her name)! Their prices are pretty good. Affordable. I usually LOVE ninja sushi. Many times when I want sushi, I want it to satisfy a craving now. No, I do not want to wait 45 minutes for a spot, then another 20 minutes for my fave pieces to come around the sushi boat, praying the jerk face in front of me doesn't grab it. In fact, just give me the damn fish and a bowl of rice and get out of my face. This is exactly why ninja sushi works for me. It satisfies the craving. It is not the best damn fish I've had on the island, but I don't get sick. However, I get nervous when the spicy ahi looks tan instead of pink. This is because of the engorged amount of mayo mixed into the LEETLE tiny pieces of fish. I mean really? Just call it fish mayo. I have not had this problem at other ninja sushi's on the island. I think I'll order out from kuru kuru from now on. Oh and the free "tea?" tastes more like miso than tea. Stick to free water. Don't mind the bags of trash by the door. I read all the hype for this place but it fell short to what I read from you yelpers. I was a little bummed out because my favorite sushi spot in Aiea is close because of a family trip. It was just one of those days where I was just wondering around and thinking of where to eat and what to try. I should have known that this wasn't the place for me when I walked in and there was no one there. But the braveness came out of me and that didn't bother me. The place is very open and a big space for a sushi spot, they have make booths and regular tables with chairs. The place is very bright, the windows brings lots of sun into the place. Very clean and would definitely eat inside rather than do take-out. Aside from the emptiness there were no empty hellos here! The owner/manager was very nice when I walked in she greeted me from the register and was very easy to talk to. I looked through the menu and I know its a sushi spot but I did the unthinkable... order a bento! Ha yes no sushi for me, well I did but no nori for me! I ordered the mixed plate where you choose from different types of "meat", I choose unagi and some spicy tuna. The ungai portion was big but it was cold, and the spicy tuna was just a disappointment! It was like eating canned tuna tossed around some spicy asian sauce, it was just weak! I should have known better than to just stick to the sushi! I used to love coming to Ninja Sushi for dinner with my sister back in 2007! I would always get the spicy ahi bento! I love the sauce that they drizzle over the spicy ahi. It is what makes their spicy ahi so unique compared to other places. So I feel extremely bad for the review I'm about to write... (This review is solely for today's visit) I stopped by Ninja Sushi after being starved for 5 hours so by the time I got there, I just wanted to order anything and get food in my tummy. I ended up ordering the Spicy Ahi donburi for $8.99 which I really ended up regretting!!! The donburi was a regular sized donburi with A LOT of rice and barely any spicy ahi. It was the thinest layer of spicy ahi I've ever seen in a donburi. I was pretty much done with the entire donburi in five bites with a whole lotta rice left :( I went home still hungry and ended up eating instant ramen. Came in on Easter Sunday, and walked into an empty restaurant. Now, I understand that places cater and prepare foods during most of the day for Easter, but that's no excuse to neglect a paying customer (who still tipped). Ordered my usual from Ninja Sushi to-go and expected the same kind of service as the other locations I frequent in town. First off, the shopkeeper didn't greet me. Instead of recognizing that I was ready to give her my order, she continued to still pack up a catering order that no one was physically present waiting for. Then after cashing me out, went to the back and disappeared for 20 minutes to, I guess, continue prepping the other orders. My sushi was finally ready in the window to be packaged, but just sat there for another 5 more minutes before being put in a bag. At the moment, 2 employees walked in and she acknowledged them but didn't care to say bye to me or say thank you for waiting. I took my food and left. WILL NOT BE BACK AGAIN. Need to work on their customer service, they realize they're in the restaurant business right?! People come for the food, but also come back for the great service, and they LACKED in that. Very nice, clean, well-run family establishment. Fresh ingredients, no MSG a big plus. This is an order and pay at the counter type of place, then pick up your food from the counter when it's ready. You get a lot for your money. I couldn't finish two rolls for dinner (dragon roll and osaka roll). My only complaint is there's no description of what's in their rolls (just pictures), so you have to ask what's in each one. Ninja Sushi was A-OK. I will go back here again. read more

It's so weird that others are complaining about the service, I actually thought the service was really nice. I think the daughter of the owners was working because the "chef" came out and her daughter served her miso soup. I thought it was cute! Anyhow, the portions are generous but I thought the salmon was a little unfresh even for ninja sushi... Also, when we orders soda they gave a regular cup, but I finish my sushi in like no time and had more than half my drink left. Maybe I should've asked if they had a take out cup but so humbug just for half the soda. One thing that kind of makes me think is that my husband got sick like five minutes into eating there. I thought that he must've been sick from before and he did say he wasn't feeling all that great it just hit him bad after he had something else in his stomach, but seeing as some other people were sick.. I dunno. The sushi wasnt super fresh when we ate it so when I attempted to finish it a few hours later it was phew, pretty bad, I had to throw the rest out! The lady here (I believe it's the owner) always ALWAYS stares at awkwardly like I'm doing something wrong. When it's time to order I just feel so rushed and I get the sense of her being irritated. When asked how many chopsticks, shoyu, ginger, once again I get bad irritated vibes from her, for what? Not sure. It's not like they were even closing. Anyways, this location is very bad. The airport ninja is much better and everyone there is much more pleasant. I'm not sure if this ninja meets covid guidelines either.... they don't seem to be practicing the rules/regulations. Lastly, this place gave me food poisoning and my son a very bad sore stomach for a few days. It's quite interesting because I read a couple other reviews and people are also complaining about feeling sick as well. Department of health really needs to check this sushi joint out. Its quite possible that this place is called Ninja Sushi because the amount of food that you get just sneaks up on you. We ordered the scallop dynamite sushi roll and were struck with joy and awe of its beauty, size, and , of course, taste. We also ordered the mixed chirashi, the chicken curry, and the pork shumai. They forgot the pork shumai and we got our money back but to be quite honest the rest of the items were enough to satisfy our palates. There were 4 people in line with large orders before us and there were only 2 people working that day. While we did have to wait, it wasnt an unreasonable amount of time. read more

My wife suggested this place and was raving about something called a Superman maki. I was a bit skeptical about coming but now that I've tried it I see why the hype is about.
