My friend and I were in Bozeman for a week for work. With limited options for Mexican food downtown we decided to walk from our hotel over to Nina's. We ordered the house margaritas which we were not too impressed by. Very sweet, barely could taste any tequila. We ordered the chips and salsa variety, guacamole, which was very tasty! Guac lacked a little traditional touch I did not see any cilantro couldn't taste any lime. I got the roasted sweet potato and veggie tacos and she got the carne asada tacos both with corn tortillas! Veggie tacos were very good! Very flavorful however the "roasted sweet potato" part of it were just basically soggy sweet potato fries. My tacos were dowsed in this unknown hot sauce that really overpowered the taste of the tacos, I remember even dabbing some off with a napkin so I could taste more of the flavor of the vegetables. Beans were good, there were pieces of garlic, very delicious. However rice was super over cooked and hard. Overall the staff was super friendly, ambience was wonderful we sat outside on patio. But if you are looking for a more authentic Mexican food experience there a few whole in the wall places within bozeman that do it better! read more

They get very overwhelmed and quality of service dramatically drops. Just this last time I went when it was busy I was given the wrong check multiple times and they forgot my food twice and it was just not the best experience service wise (food is always delicious though!). Nina's, you get an E for effort. We can tell you put some thought into your ingredients, however you missed you the mark. You over thought your process and you ended up with food that doesn't make sense. Your queso fundido was merely queso. Queso fundido should be gooey and creamy topped with cilantro & chorizo. The queso you served, was just that...plain old queso with tiny chunks of chorizo (maybe...or maybe it was breakfast sausage). We also ordered the carne asada fajitas, not sure what kind of meat you use, but the texture and appearance resembled more of a marinated chicken thigh and NOT the traditional skirt steak. The sautéed vegetables, beans and cilantro rice was good. Overall, we wouldn't return. With all of the choices, we would rather try somewhere new! read more

We stumbled in for dinner on our first night visiting Bozeman. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were great. We each had a margarita and they were fantastic. We also ordered the tacos al pastor and the bison. I loved the al pastor as it was very flavorful, unfortunately the bison was a little dry. The rice and beans that came with the tacos were great. Is this a prank!? "Nina's Guacamole" is in fact out of a plastic container, separating like that schwag at a tailgate party, with chips from a bag...and just the regular plastic bag type of chips, not the fancy ones in a fake paper bag. Beef Barbacoa tacos are flavorless, served in tortillas from a bag, sort of like someone reselling Chipotle Mexican Grill at 100% markup. Braised Pork torta is sodden and depressing, just a soggy mess on a plate. Margaritas are fine - yay!...congratulations? Back to that guacamole...for $10...seriously, it is out of a container...takes some serious cojones to not even smash an avocado but still charge $10 bucks. Do the owners, Joe and Megan Romano know they are pranking us, and they laugh their way to the bank, or can they possibly be so ignorant as to think this is good food. The discord between the pomp and the reality is maddening, but common to each of their restaurants. Soon enough this will go the way of Toro. Meanwhile, stop at Heebs, grab a tub of guacamole and a bag of chips (the good ones), save some money, and enjoy far better food - at least the guacamole won't be separating. read more

Read this with the filter that I'm from Texas... The atmosphere is nice, bright, and open. I found the staff to be friendly and relatively fast. The food was not great. The guacamole had a watery consistency and the shrimp salad bowl had 3 shrimp in it--all with the tails still on. I find that odd considering they were under several ingredients on top where you couldn't really. I didn't realize until I bit into it and had a little surprise. They were also very fishy tasting and had a distinct smell. There seemed to be a good happy hour crowd so I assume the drinks are better. I will not be back. read more

Nina's is the best place in Bozeman to eat and hang out. The margaritas taste like they have been made in a village in Mexico. There is a spicy one, and the house one is muy excellente. Tried this place for the first time on cinco de Mayo. Yes I knew it would be busy. Let's just say for a new restaurant/bar a hostess is necessary. It was packed. People were waiting, and it's "first come first served". You have people waiting by dirty tables to sit down. You have people asking people who are sitting down eating if they can have their table when they're done. The acoustics are awful. Everyone is yelling. I could hardly hear anyone I was with. On to the food. I will say they can marinate meat pretty well. The rice is awful. It was somehow mushy, but undercooked at the same time. It also has absolutely no flavor. We tried their guacamole, and chips. It was okay. The guacamole was missing some salt, and lemon juice. The nachos were pretty good, but whatever melted cheese they had on them just didn't go. $15 for a freaking tostada. That plate was a mess. You should be able to pick up, and eat a tostada. Nope not here. They just throw whatever they can on. Including that god awful "dirty rice" which is Spanish rice, why they call it what they do I wouldn't know. Their Elote (street corn) wasn't terrible, but Tajin doesn't go on corn. Not sure why these people wanted to make Mexican food, but if you're going to do it, do it right. Service was pretty good, a little slow at times, but seemed as though our server was the only one on a busy Friday night. An absolute acoustic nightmare! If you enjoy yelling at your friends and straining to hear anything above the cacophony, then this is your place. I'm not sure why the owners have put so little thought into this - honestly the same problem also exists at Urban Kitchen, which is why I rarely visit. But when you essentially have a concrete box full of people, it will need some acoustic control to make it somewhat humane. Aside from the harsh environment, the food and drink show promise. House margaritas were good, chips and guacamole were decent though on the mild side, and the fish tacos were good though again a little mild and could use more spice and flavor. It's always hard to fairly review a new establishment so soon after they open, but if they can address the ridiculous acoustics and keep working on the food I think it could be a worthy addition to the Bozeman restaurant scene. read more

We had a party of three - ordered chips/guacamole/ salsa, a variety of tacos and margaritas to start. One margarita was probably 2oz served because glass was so full of ice. Expensive for probably 2oz of liquid and not very flavorful. Both salsas were very sweet not spicy at all - we asked for some hot sauce to add spice & flavor but they didn't bring it. For dinner Port, chicken & Carne Asada tacos. The asada were rare cooked through and cold. Another chicken tacos dinner were bland. The other overcooked. Unfortunate experience overall. read more

Was greeted by a really nice young gal, said our waitress would be with us shortly. After about 5 minutes of nobody coming to our table, I looked over and saw a waitress sitting down at a table of 4 having a conversation...they were obviously friends. I thought "I hope that's not our waitress chatting it up, making eye contact with me, laughing, yet totally ignoring us". I flagged down the girl that sat us and asked her if anyone was coming to wait on us. She said yes, pointed out the same girl sitting with her friends, and was just as surprised as us. The bartender actually noticed all of this going on and came over to the table to say something to her. She got up and walked over to the corner of the room where the conversation continued. Then, a group of 4 walks in and sits down directly next to us...all young college kids. She immediately walks over with 4 glasses of water, then proceeds to take their order. While taking their order I saw her glance over at me twice as if to say "why's this guy looking at me, doesn't he know I'm busy taking an order over here?" I was waiting for her to finish with their order and come to our table, but when she finished she walked right past us towards the order screen and on her way over there I heard her mumble "ugh! crazy busy!" We left immediately, and as we were walking out, the bartender and the girl that sat us apologized out loud, with the bartender even saying (in front of everyone) "that's not normal, please come back tomorrow". read more

OMG! Don't go to Nina's! Great menu VERY POOR EXECUTION!!! The beans were red because they were soaked it marinara tomatosauce. This is like NY Mexican! I asked for hot sauce and they gave me buffalo sause. WTF! It's like someone saw some Mexican food but never actually tasted it before! No chilli pepers were actually harmed to make this food! BTW: service sucked too. Huckleberry Margarita?!? A Hulkelberry had never rolled down to Mexico. It's sad that Taco bell has more flavor. I should always go with my first rule of Mexican food; if they have ground beef on the menus and don't have a choice for corn or flower tortillas, then run! I'm perplexed as to why so this place has 3 stars overall. The drinks are fantastic, fresh ingredients, in house Margarita mix is made fresh. The tequila doesn't overpower your palette, you can taste everything individually in your drink and they have a wonderful selection of tequilas including my personal favorite Corzo Blanco. The guacamole was great, again freshly made and our main plates were also really good, I was able to get corn tortillas instead of the flour which isn't my preference. Very flavorful and freshly made. We also tasted the soups, which if you have had Mexican food, are the indicators for authentic flavors and both Pozole and Chicken Tortilla were great. My one moment of meh was the rice, I wish there was more cilantro flavor in it. Did I mention I am from Cali and have tried hundreds of Mexican restaurants? Great staff, tequila selection, and decent cocktails. Food? Not so great. Started with chips & salsa: Salsa verde: tastes like unripened green tomatoes. Zero heat. Red salsa: tastes like water. Zero heat. Some kind of brown poo salsa: tastes like pumpkin pie filling. Zero heat. Chips: generic store bought, but warmed. Main courses: Beef tacos: taste like slapping some pot roast on store-bought tortilla shell. Zero heat. Pork tacos: taste like the beef tacos, but slightly more porky. Zero heat. Side of beans: imagine Bush's Baked Beans mixed with refried beans. Side of rice: undercooked and squirted with lime juice. They do make a great hot sauce similar to Cholula, so make sure to ask for it so that you can douse your meal in something flavorful. read more

I ignored the reviews on this restaurant and I wish I had not. The reviews are correct :( Considering the owners own two other fabulous restaurants I had high hopes for this one. It was super disappointing. Here is why... 1) $5 for chips and salsa?? Really?? Seems like a nickle and dime move. 2) the tacos were the tiniest tacos I have ever had. No joke. I would probably have to eat 6 to feel semi full. Such a bummer. Flavor was decent but. It worth it. 3) the salad was mediocre. The only lettuce option is iceberg which is crazy to me!! Especially for a higher end lunch spot. Iceberg?? 4) the quality of food was meh. It reminded me of a glorified chipotle. I will say the one good thing is the atmosphere and the salsa.
