I stopped here for lunch today and I was surprised that the dining room is still closed when most other places have been open for a while now so take out was on and I'm eating in my car, thanks to C19 I'm completely used to it. I would get the beef and broccoli lunch special that came with fried rice and an egg foo young. My lunch didn't take long and it was piping hot which I liked after my cold lunch last weekend. The egg foo young was small and what I expected for a lunch special covered in brown gravy which was ok. The fried rice had no meat in it and very little of anything else so 99 % brown looking rice which had some flavor and ok. The beef with broccoli was ok also with not so much beef because it was minimal and sliced very thin once you dug in. The broccoli had some crunch left in it which was nice because over cooked veggies are horrible. Overall it was average and nothing blow you away lunch special and I don't mean it was bad but it wouldn't replace my favorite place so I would try more of the menu. read more

Ordered pick up for lunch Szechwan chicken! Big portion and from there it was all downhill! Lots of chicken barely any veggies. Chicken was cut so thin and breaded so think that taking a bite to of the big purse of chicken was impossible!! It was so tough that it reminded me of chicken Jersey with a thick layer of mushy breading. The sauce was suppose to be a sweet but spicy reddish sauce. It was mildly sweet and I didn't get anything that was even mildly spicy! It tasted more like a bad version of sweet and sour chicken! $15 in the garbage and still hungry! Never again!!!!! Nihao, I'm sorry but it's a Ni - "No". I was in town for a wedding a few weeks back and was working out a hotel in the Falls for a few days leading up to the wedding. While I did not choose the usual sandwich or fast food delivery options, I decided to give this restaurant a shot. I went with their Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef accompanied with a side of Egg Rolls. While that was a ridiculously large order just for me, I wanted to try a little of both to give this business a fair review. Well the two stars are for the price and promptness of the delivery. The Egg rolls were greasy, the Orange Chicken did not taste fresh and as for the Mongolian Beef, the beef tasted overcooked and again greasy. Maybe the experience would've been different if I at there it would've been different but this experience was not good food wise. read more

I have been here a few times, always to go orders though. Nihao and Chen's are my go to for local Chinese food, and usually I go for the chicken lo mein, kind of a creature of habit that way. Although they do have some special in house dishes that may sounds odd, like jelly fish head plate. However the picture of the dish looked kinda tasty, not sure I would order it, but I have thought about it. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained as the pictures show. The kitchen is open and to the left side of the dining area, and that also looks to be kept up well. If you are looking for a spot for decent Chinese, this is the spot. read more

My friend and I were trying to find a neutral location to have lunch. Quick search on Yelp and NIHAO emerged as a forerunner. There are a lot is positive reviews. Neither of us had been there before, so it was the place to go. Located in a strip mall, the GPS tried to have me make a u-turn to the other side of the street. There is plenty parking. The inside is split into two areas, pickup and dining room. Pickup was pretty busy with quite a few people getting it to go. We sat to chat, so off to the dining room. Little older interior. Bench and chair seating. The bench's were a little squeaky for me but are fine. I always have the hot and sour soup as my gauge of a Chinese restaurant. No two are alike. This was a more traditional heavy dark color with plenty of veggies. Spices were pleasant and soup was nice. I would have to say, not in my top 10 but a nice soup. We both went with the veggie delight. Nice crisp veggies and plenty of them. The sauce was light so not to take away from the taste. There was also a good variety, mushrooms, broccoli,shoots, good stuff. It was followed by an almond cookie. Nice and light and good flavor. Bill came with the traditional fortune cookie. I have ordered a few times from NiHao and I have never been disappointed. The food is always exactly as ordered, the portions are extremely generous, and the food is always hot and delicious when it arrives. I order it to be delivered and the driver always wears a mask, is kind, and confirms where to leave the food for contactless delivery. What I like best about NiHao is that it doesn't make me feel unwell. Almost every other Asian food restaurant does not agree with me, but NiHao is the exception. If I could change anything it would be to exclude the silverware and decrease the amount of sauce packets. read more

This is a review specific to the crab Rangoons. I have ordered them from here for years and they had remained my favorite, until the last two times I ordered. I'm not sure if they changed suppliers or fryer oil (or didn't change it timely enough), but they have not tasted any better than the ones you get at an asian buffet (for the record, I don't eat rangoons from an asian buffet). Here's Ni Hao in a nutshell. Besides serving typical American Chinese fare, they have a separate menu that is more authentic. Like any successful Chinese venue, their menu consists of over 100 different dishes. The authentic menu seems to be heavily influenced/consists of Szechuan/Sichuan food. The restaurant is clean and the takeout/pickup counter is separate from the dining area. High quality, fast and friendly service, clean. My friend and I ordered four entrees from the authentic menu. The translations aren't wholly accurate, but there was a Taiwanese beef noodle soup, mapo tofu, Mongolian lamb, and Taiwanese steamed prawns. The noodle soup came out quickly, an opaque brown broth with tons of floating peppers. Perfectly cooked, bouncy egg noodles swim alongside hours-cooked beef and gelatin, cooked down for long enough to completely tenderize without destroying texture. I first noticed the distinct numbing spice in this dish. Within 10 minutes, we had fished everything out and consumed nearly all the broth. In short order, the tofu and lamb arrived, along with a pot of rice. The sauce in the mapo tofu again presented with the unique numbing spice, but the richness of flavor paired extremely well with the heat. The lamb was incredibly tender, with an almost buttery mouthfeel. Mixing the rice with the mapo tofu and the lamb made quite a complex flavor, at times rich, smooth, and bursting with umami, complemented by the sauce/broth of the tofu, as the heat presented on the finish. We ate it all so quickly that it took some time for the prawns to come out, which were, again, excellent. Perfectly cooked, with a slight sweetness. Cooked with the shell, there's a great flavor, almost of ocean, but not in a salty or briny way. Two sugar cookies and fortune cookies were presented with the check. I have no real complaints. Sure, the decor is dated, the location simply status quo, and maybe the water tastes a little of tap. But for the price, variety, and intensity of flavor, you cannot lose. read more

10/24/14 @ 2:30pm (dinner time) I honestly recommend this place! They have many lunch selections to choose from and their entrees are always made hot and fresh and quick as well! Their egg fooyoung just melts in my mouth & egg drop soup was just so soothing and delicious! It's in a little strip area and you'll probably miss it if you don't pay attention but their sign is pretty bright and red for you to catch it. Their Hunan chicken dinner was great (a little bit spicy for me but I was ok with it). Their smoothie was also made fresh. Overall it was a good experience for my niece and I. I've only ordered takeout before, so can't speak for the dining in experience. For takeout though, you get a ton! Their dinner specials include entree, fried rice, plus 2 sides for all around $9. It's an awesome value and the food is good too. They have online ordering, which I love! I've gotten the orange chicken, sesame chicken and Mongolian beef before. My husband and I are very impressed with the service and quality of food we received recently from Nihao. We had the opportunity to pick up an order for lunch. Firstly, their lunch specials were very generous! We both had leftovers!!! Secondly, they do not use msg!!! Lastly, we asked for low sodium and they truly delivered a low sodium meal! That has never happened ANY time we ask for low sodium, especially within the Asian restaurant community we have had experience with. We love and would support any of our area restaurants caring for our community, but our health and what we put into our bodies are very important to us. On a Monday when all the other Chinese restaurants on Appleton Avenue in Menomonee Falls are closed, NIHAO (Mandarin counterpart to the Texan "you doing all right?") was open for business. They had only been open for a month, but they deserve to stay open for a long time. Service is friendly and speedy, prices are reasonable (specials at $5.95 for lunch and $ 7.95 for dinner) and the food is good. How do you judge a good Chinese restaurant? The first thing I check is the number of Chinese people dining in the restaurant. I was surprised on the number of Chinese people in Menomonee Falls! The second thing i check is the number of menus. NIHAO had two menus and you always order your food off the Chinese menu, thus you get "authentic" Chinese food. We ordered a whole steam fish, Chinese bok choy with mushrooms and the salt and pepper oysters (btw, this is the best way to eat a fish). Tons of food, very tasty and very authentic. If you have difficulty with the Chinese menu, they also have pictures of the food on the walls (tacky, but effective). read more

Great Chinese food found! We recently moved to Menomonee Falls from Seattle, and have been missing good Asian food. We tried NIHAO on a Saturday night. It was a quiet, unassuming, easy to find but also easy to miss if you aren't looking carefully for it, casual, and clean little restaurant. There were only a few tables occupied during our meal - about four older couples dined while our four year old, 13 and 16 year olds, and I enjoyed our food. It was a little on the quiet side to be completely comfortable with the four year old's tendency to have his volume a little higher than I would like, but casual enough that I certainly didn't feel bad about bringing him there. The server who took care of us seemed to not be terribly comfortable with English, but was nonetheless great. He was attentive, nice, and took good care of us. (He did seem a bit confused when we asked for chopsticks! :-) ) The food was what made us really happy. We ordered eggs rolls and spring rolls (which were surprisingly fried) to start and both were quite tasty. For dinner we shared sesame tofu (sweet sauce, with perfectly cooked tofu - our vegetarian loved it), veggie lo mein (noodles that weren't too soft or too chewy and a fair amount of actual and fresh vegetables), General Tso's chicken (nice light breading with just the right amount of kick to the sauce), and Mongolian beef (nice pieces of meat, hearty sauce). On top of our food being of good quality, well cooked, and flavorful, it was presented with a little extra flair that you don't usually see in a restaurant, but which was a pleasant surprise. I am rating this restaurant in comparison to the other Chinese restaurants in the area. Since this opened up I have been wanting to try it out . but my husband never wanted to try it since several other Chinese restaurants opened up in the same location and closed down within a year since they were just bad. Anyway I ventured out here with few of my co-workers who were brave enough to try this place out despite the speculated failure. The waitress / restaurant manager / front desk operator seems like she was In a hurry. the place was quite under staffed so I don't blame her for being in a hurry. Although I would not rate this place to have good service I am hoping they would get more servers so people don't feel like they are rushed. To get to the food. I personally rate it a 3.2 but all my co workers thought the food was a solid 4 given that they have $5.99 lunch specials and $7.99 dinner specials that tags on another point for my rating Since this is close to my work place, I would definite return for lunch as this is cheaper than Eating at our office cafeteria that has bland overpriced food. read more

Been here a couple of times and have been impressed. I ordered the hunan beef dinner special that includes the entree a bowl of egg drop soup, and one other side. Its a generously portioned entree with fresh vegtables, tender beef, and a sauce with good flavour. It also includes fried rice at no extra charge. I had to order a extra bowl of hot and sour soup as they wont let you substitute even after offering to pay the $.60 diffrence in price. I gave the egg drop soup to my companion, she enjoyed her soup and the hot and sour soup was worth the extra cost. Ill be back when i am in the area again read more

Decided to stop here as it was ranked high in the Menomonee area. A bit of warning though, Google navigated me behind the place. I ordered shrimp fried rice, crab ragoons and egg roll. The portions were big and there was no way i was going to finish it all. I do have few gripes but it wont deter me from coming back or docking more stars. 1. The fried rice was that authentic dark rice i grew up eating but it had no egg at all in it, even though the menu said it did. I complained but to no avail. I wouldve even paid more to have it. 2. The japanese crab ragoon was purse style wrapped in rice paper. While some dont mind this, it crumbles to hell when you bite one. 3. The egg rolls are unusual. The staff and restaurant are really nice, and the food is good too. Its mostly your average Americanized Chinese Food. The nice thing is that you can order most dishes with the vegetables steamed and the sauce on the side so you don't take in all the oil from the stir fried stuff and cut out about half of the sodium from the sauce, as you aren't going to use as much sauce as they would normally put on your dish. I moved to the area about 6 months ago and have had several dishes from Nehao... every single time, it meets or exceeds expectations. Hands down the best (and cleanest) Chinese restaurant in the area!!! Last time I went was with my boyfriend and his very picky 13 year old. She had asked to go to a Chinese chain restaurant and we encouraged her to try this place instead. She loved it and said it was better than the chain restaurant she was requesting. We get something new every time but our favorite dishes so far: steamed dumplings orange chicken moo shu pork (their house sauce that they give you on the side is something else!) coconut shrimp curry chicken As for the service, I have engaged with the owner and she is so proud of the food she offers.
