Exceptional food with a few uniquely delicious menu items. My partner and I ordered takeout from here recently and got: Kung Pao Chicken, shrimp dumplings, blue crab buns, and pork/shrimp fried rice. Everything was well-seasoned, and spicy but not at the cost of flavor. The dumplings were refreshing and sweet. The chicken and the fried rice were mouth-watering and delicious. But the blue crab buns were such an unexpected treat - with a creamy curried crab center, and fluffy/buttery bun, it was heaven! Definitely check this out if you're in the mood for takeout! Highly recommend. read more

Such good food! We've gotten the Peking duck with soup kit 3 times and loved it each time. love the spring rolls and dumplings too!

Great visit and I am already planning to go back! Party of two, we went for lunchtime on Saturday and were seated upstairs in a well-lit room with lots of windows, and the tables and chairs for groups spaced apart. We wanted to get entrees, but could see some examples of the Dim Sum menu nearby, and downstairs by the front door were examples of the Cantonese donut, egg tart, and other items offered by the cafe. We ordered the Half Peking Duck, Crispy Bamboo Fish (told it was catfish), and Blue Crab Buns. We thought the Duck would take a while but everything was quick, with the Bamboo Fish arriving just a little earlier than the duck and buns. It was a bit of a squeeze on the small two-person table, so next time we'd probably ask for the jar holding forks, spoons, and chopsticks be removed or put a bun on each of our plates and get that serving dish removed. The waitress was friendly and great about explaining everything. The menu clearly showed rice was to be ordered separately and only $1 so I don't understand the complaints about that. At the cheap Chinese places rice is usually used to catch the copious sauce in all the dishes, but from pictures and what we ordered we didn't expect any sauce and so didn't need any extra starch. The Crispy Bamboo Fish was amazing! Cooked well and with great crunch on the outside, with a chili spicy bite. I ate my half with chopsticks and they were all bite sized chunks. The Blue Crab Buns were good. From the pictures, I didn't realize they were round rolls with the curried crab totally encased, and the thick green top was the herbs and butter mixture. The crab portion had great flavor and the roll with those herbs was buttery, mellow, and tasty. We got them hot and soft from the oven. Though they really are buns, with some crab, not a crab appetizer delivered by bun, if you know what I mean? Half Peking Duck was excellent. It was delivered with two sauces, hoisin sauce and a beet-ginger sauce. I thought the beet-ginger would be too sweet, but it worked very well! I used both sauces in the little duck/leek/cucumber sandwiches I made with the pillowy, perfect buckwheat steamed buns. A half duck was plenty of meat for two people, so we also had several bites by themselves or dipped into sauce, as we couldn't stuff the buns too full. The skin was nicely crispy and laid over the pieces of duck meat already cut on the plate. We gave up on chopsticks and used our forks for the tender duck. If I say greasy, it's only in the best way, flavor packed in. Fantastic food, pleasant room, helpful service. I will definitely return to try some other dishes, and a pineapple allspice soda! read more

There are some really special flavors here. You can tell the chef knows exactly what they are doing, and cooking with love. Everything I've had so far has been special and well balanced with many delightful full bodied flavor notes. The fried rice is awesome! The chocolate walnut cookies are a must try. The wonton soup feels like a hug and makes me want to cry every time I get it. Next up, I'm gonna go all in on a whole duck for a special night at home, in quarantine continued 2021. This place makes me happy and I am glad they are in Baltimore. read more

There was a problem with DoorDash that the manager went totally out of her way to fix. Really kind and helpful on top of the food being great. read more

We had tried Nihao earlier on during its opening days, when it was offering limited menu as takeouts. We were somewhat disappointed before, but decided to give Nihao another try now that it's open for dining in: it was a good call! Not too busy on an early Sunday evening, and street parking was easy to find. We got the chili wontons, mala noodles, crispy bamboo fish, and Wu Xi pork belly. Food was delicious. My favorite item was the chili wontons, as well as the pork belly. The spices and flavors were a little bit too strong, however; for example the mala noodles were tasty at first but quickly numbed our tongues, and the pork belly was a tad too sweet. Other than that overall a good experience! read more

We had dinner at NiHao this evening. It was delicious, absolutely delicious. Ordered dumplings, half Peking duck, eggplant, Shanghai noodles. Perfect meal. Service was excellent and the restaurant very comfortable. One of the very best Asian meals I've ever had. Try it, you'll like it. read more

The flavors are trying to be more authentic, but in reality they are sub-par. We waited 30 more minutes over the indicated pickup time (we ordered from the restaurant's website), and the portion size is very small. We ordered half-duck, crab salad, roasted eggplant and cumin lamb. The half-duck has great subtle flavor, but definitely over-priced for a small half. Crab salad is good in flavor and in portion size. Roasted eggplant is the biggest problem: only 5 slices for 10 dollars! Cumin lamb tastes bland, and the yellow sauce tastes days-old. We are giving it 1 star because the flavor overall is only leaning toward the authentic side because they offer some unique Chinese cuisines that are hardly seen in Baltimore, BUT the portion size is too disappointingly small. For these 4 dishes they charged 80 dollars after tax, but not even filling for 2 fit-sized adults. It falls far short off of its price. read more

So excited to have authentic chinese in canton! Everything was slightly under-salted but overall the flavors were great! We had the mapo, shrimp dumplings, chicken and tofu skin salad, full duck, and stir fried greens. The duck was delicious and I loved the beet sauce. The broth made from the kit was awesome and such a nice addition to take-out. Hoping they keep the momentum up through the pandemic! read more

This is a delivery review so I'm not posting photos. I have never eaten here before but my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try today. Yall did NOT disappoint. The Schezuan Popcorn Chicken! Lightly fried to literal perfection in a unique sauce that highlights and combines all the best qualities in chinese chicken dishes. The lychee in it was a beautiful addition. Hands down the best chicken I've ever had. The Lemon Crispy Shrimp are also phenomenal. I have never had better shrimp in my life. It makes me wonder where other restaurants get their shrimp from, because these were big and delicious (no gunk left in either). It shows so much talent to be able to keep a shrimp that crisp while covered in a creamy sauce. Decadent. The Chili Oil Pork & Shrimp Wontons were exqsuitite. Every single ingredient in the chili oil sauce were fantastic together. We also tried the Combination Fried Rice which was perfect. The vegetables in the rice were clearly fresh and it was full shrimp, chicken and large pieces of beef. I genuninely think this is the best food I've eaten in my 6 years in this city. Yall will be seeing me again soon! read more

Go elsewhere for your special occasion. You have been warned. I ordered the Peking duck to celebrate Chinese New Year. I placed the order at 10:30am and it was confirmed. I requested to pick up at 7:30pm and I was on time. There was a crowd in front of the restaurant waiting. I was pretty sure they're all waiting for their pickup. I didn't think much of it. When I got in, there were a few people waiting to check in ahead of me. The register lady told one after another that they oversold the duck. Guess what, they didn't have mine either. We are Asians and we were trying to celebrate Lunar New Year. It wasn't like yet another Friday night take out. While it's not fair to make the (Chinese) restaurant be responsible for the fallout of my New Year dinner, I felt pretty angry regardless having to scramble for dinner option on New Year Day. It's like being told no turkey on Thanksgiving night, or no champagne on NYE, when you ordered and paid in advance. Should I have ordered two weeks before? I totally would have, except there was zero indication that they might run out on their website, there was no cut-off time, and their online system only allowed same day orders. Mind you, it takes days to make Peking duck. So they should have a pretty good idea how many ducks they have to sell, and stop taking orders when they run out. OK, blame it on technology, but they should have given me a courtesy call, right? They acknowledged that I ordered "way ahead of time", got a verbal apology, and that's it. Even if they had offered to replace the meal (not for free) for me, there were at least 5 other parties plus dine-in patrons waiting for their food ahead of me. No thanks. I've contacted them privately over email. There was zero response for two days before I decided to write this review. I wish this was a one-off incident, but it's not. This restaurant is completely unorganized when they're busy. I've done take out with them two other times, and none of them went smoothly. I have just read other 1-star reviews and my issues were relatively minor compared to theirs (ordered completely canceled on Christmas Eve without getting any notification or pick up running 2 hours late, etc). So it's safe to say that this is a regular occurrence that you wouldn't want to risk your special occasion with them. If you're interested in Peking duck, I highly recommend getting it from from one of the online sources. I tried to post specifically the one that I've tried, but was being taken by Yelp _for some reason_ because it's apparently promoting some other business. Anyway, look online and it's not hard to find. A whole duck with all the fixings is $149 which includes overnight shipping. You'd have to do a final roast in your home oven and carve it yourself, but it's well worth the effort. The skin stays crisp, the food is warm, it was a very enjoyable, not to mention reliable, experience. That's what I'll be doing from now on whenever we want Peking duck in Baltimore. There're cheaper alternatives on the website that are pre-sliced. I haven't tried and they may be just as good. Keep in mind, the NiHao whole Peking duck is $68. I added 20% tips which bumped the total to $85.68 - not cheap either. read more

We have been eager to try this restaurant since we heard it was opening. It was definitely worth the wait. Some of the best Chinese food we have ever had. We ordered shrimp dumplings, honey pork, spicy cauliflower and broccoli, vegetables, and chicken chow mein. The dumplings were possibly the very best we have ever had. The cauliflower was spicy but not overwhelmingly so, with the peppers adding flavor as well as heat. The chow mein was unlike the inauthentic glop that usually passes for this fish- noodles were thin and crunchy, added chicken and vegetables worked perfectly. Unlike most Asian restaurants rice has to be ordered separately, but it is a nominal charge. Only downside is this restaurant, which opened in the middle of the pandemic, is clearly still struggling with logistics. Staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of orders; we were told 20 minutes to get our food, it was closer to 40. When we arrived to pick up there were a number of other people waiting for their web-based orders. I'm sure the staff will work out the details And without question, the food was definitely worth the wait! read more

NiHao fills the much needed gap in Baltimore for delicious, non-Americanized Chinese restaurant. The food is beyond delicious, the service top notch, and prices are reasonable. Highly recommend the Crispy Eggplant, Singapore Rice Noodles, and Char Siu Pork. read more

As a first time patron, I had heard only good things about NiHao. I was really looking forward to my meal. Since I can't handle spicy, I stuck to items without a hot pepper symbol on the menu. The Crispy Eggplant was delicious as an appetizer. Then I ordered the Singapore Noodles. This item should not even be on the menu till they figure out how to improve it. The chef had cut the vermicelli noodles to about 1" in length, added some shrimp and chicken, and proceeded to cover it all with the most god awful curry sauce. My friends wouldn't even share some with me. It was like curried paste. There was no dimension to the flavors and nothing to offer that sauce but noodles, tough chicken, but nicely done shrimp. Stay away from this dish. read more

Not great service, not good food. To start, the chairs are also too tall for the tables so you are hunching over as you eat. The food was honestly basically inedible. We had some eggplant dish that tasted exactly like cigarettes. I wish I were exaggerating. Initially we thought someone was smoking indoors. Then we realized it was actually our food. Rarely will I not eat food put in front of me but it was inedible. We kept ordering hoping the next thing would be better but unfortunately it was not. Save your money. read more

Thank YOU NiHao! Baltimore is a Chinese food desert and NiHao is a much needed oasis. Thank you thank you thank you.

This restaurant is definitely worth a try for those craving Chinese food in the Baltimore area. This restaurant is different from your standard family favorite Chinese restaurant in that it is slightly more upscale (more expensive dishes with smaller portions) and has a smaller menu than a typical Chinese restaurant. However, it makes up for these areas in the unique dishes that it offers. We tried the tofu skin salad, mushroom charred rice cakes, and crispy catfish, which are dishes that we usually cannot find easily at other restaurants. The flavors were phenomenal (especially the Szechuan elements of the catfish dish and the interesting ingredient combinations of the tofu skin salad). The food was still warm an hour after being delivered, although I preferred to rebake the catfish again to give it a better crisp. We hope that they can continue to expand their menu with more uniquely flavored dishes. read more

Went here for my mom's birthday after she raved about it. Unfortunately this experience did not match her expectations and she was disappointed on her birthday. The appetizers were excellent: the chili wontons and the cumin lamb buns, if we had just had those this would have been a 5 star review. It just went downhill from there, the tofu and broccoli was greasy and leaden on top of way too many onions. We sent it back and the server said nothing, not even an apology, and she seemed to avoid us for the rest of our dining experience. The pan-fried noodles were drowning in sauce and seemed to be more sauce than noodle. While I enjoyed the crispy eggplant, my poor mother was dismayed that the pickled cabbage was flavorless (unlike her 3 previous times trying it). We did however, really like the mushrooms. I was so excited to try this place after hearing my parents rave about it, but I don't think we will be returning. read more

3.5 stars. Agree with fellow Yelper Hursuong V. Flavors were complex and well-developed. But I was a bit astonished? with the price. For a second, I thought I was in the Upper West Side or Chelsea of NYC (and not Baltimore).. but who knows, maybe the cost of living has dramatically increased in Canton. read more

Was so happy when this restaurant opened earlier this year and am a big supporter ordering from them frequently. Unfortunately my large take out order today did not include any RICE. How does a Chinese restaurant not include rice?! I called them and the lady that answers the phone says "oh we don't include rice"...since when?! I just ordered from you a few weeks ago and you did include rice. Just spent several minutes on the phone with the lady who didn't understand my suggestion of putting on your menu "Rice not included." Since you update the website and your menu items, just add "Rice not included" at the top of the menu!!!! That way people can just pay the $1 for rice! Now I'm making my own rice...defeats of the purpose of ordering a meal. read more

So so wanted to this place to be good and, well, it wasn't. Got the dumplings, mapo tofu, black pepper beef, and dry fried cauliflower. The dumplings were excellent with tasty wrapper, meaty shrimp, and lovely seasonings. Everything else was bleh. Way, way too much salt in the cauliflower and tofu (the tofu itself was silky delicious--silky and mild) and too much pepper in the beef. Veggies were overcooked. Please keep trying! read more
