Enjoyed a wonderful brunch here this past Sunday. My first time here. Pleasantly surprised.

I went to visit my best friend (since the first grade) and decided to celebrate another reunion at Nico's this Friday. It was epic! The service all around was so pleasant, professional and warm. Our server Kallie was hands down one of the best I've ever encountered. She knew what to pair with each item we chose and we chose so many! I lost count of the number of oysters we tried, but we both concur that we prefer the northeast oysters (no surprise NYers) the most :) The baked Camembert oysters were a game changer and I encourage you try the Baked Alaska for dessert. read more

We had an amazing lunch, oysters, mussels and escargots. We couldn't have asked for more. The staff were amazing, cleanliness and care of clientele was impeccable. We took a chance and luckily got seated without a reservation. We sat at the raw bar and enjoyed the conversation and atmosphere. We left very well fed, food was amazing. I seriously do not know where to begin. Our experience was absolutely delightful. We were greeted by the Host, Sean, Nico (owner) and Tara (manager?) They accommodated us during the busiest times on a Friday. We appreciated them sitting us with little wait and no reservation. We chose to sit outside even though it was a little on the warm side. Tara and Sean checked on us to make sure we were ok numerous times. It really was the best dining experience from drinks to food to the staff. our waiter Chelsea was also so attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. There really isn't one bad thing I could say about Nico's. We ordered the crab and caviar, (to quote Chelsea it's a great "amuse bouche") baked oysters, mussels (ask for extra bread, I could easily eat a loaf of it!) our drinks were so good. I got the le fleur---so gooood! My husband enjoyed his Bastaille Pueblo which he said he loved the spice to it. Lastly, Nico came over to make sure everything tasted ok! It was perfect! Hands down the best oysters I've ever had. They give you several different sauces to try with your oysters in cute little bottles. The baked ones are just as good as raw--you need to try both! Also had a great wine selection and super helpful staff. A great place to splurge, worth every penny. read more

Incredible selection of oysters. I have never seen so many varieties. available at one place. The cocktail menu is very unique and tailored to the season. Bourbon in winter for sure. My friends and I were visiting from out of town and were very excited to come to Nico. While my drinks and steak entre were amazing we ordered oysters and tuna tartare to start and unfortunately, our entire party of 4 got food poisoning and were all very sick the next day. I wish I had a better experience because I was so excited to visit Nico but even aside from the food poising I don't think it's worth the prices. read more

I was nervous about my first experience given the sorted reviews, but we (6 of us) had a really great dinner. Ordered oysters, clams, mussels, calamari, periwinkles, french fries, lobster roll, snapper, and a couple specials (celery soup, steak tartar) and all three desserts - basically most of the menu. Mussels and periwinkles were not my favorite but everything else was very good! Oysters, bacon clams, soup, meringue on baked Alaska and ice cream that accompanied chocolate cake were standouts. 2nd time at Nico and here's my overall review: Service was extremely knowledgable and attentive. Our server really knew the entire menu and gave accurate recommendations. Slight exception was the tuna tartare- I've had much better and it lacked flavor. Didn't have much cucumber presence as was noted. And the serving size was microscopic. Tuna tartare is never huge but this was overly foo-foo. Really good French 75s and good cocktails in general from prior experience. Awesome shrimp cocktail. Charleston does get the best shrimp in the US (eat your heart out Gulf, I don't care what you say) and Shem Creek is where they bring it all in, so Shem Creek shrimp is pretty much the pinnacle. Fresh to death. Plus I ate them at height of season. Perfect seasoning and accompanying sauces to boot, although putting it in iodine-style droppers is a bit hipster pretentious. Not a big calamari fan normally but I had one of my friend's and it was maybe the best I've had. Real coconut in the frying batter and the calamari was very tender and perfectly cooked. Oysters were meh. I get it, they're not in season, but I still get better oysters in summer at Pearlz in downtown, even the same James River shucks. Here's the highlight: the swordfish was one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life period. Perfect sauce, perfect piece of fresh fish, cooked perfectly. Light, fluffy, and zero fish taste, which ironically is the goal of cooking any fish. Insanely good, and if I knew how good it was going to be I would have skipped the previously mentioned food and just ordered two swordfish entrees. Somehow the whole tomato cooked with it in the wood fired oven was a perfect accompaniment. Please go to Nico and order the swordfish dish. That shit is the Truth. In summary, I came for the oysters and tartare but I'll come back for everything else! Awesome job but in a different way than I expected. read more

I am a Mt. Pleasant local and was disgusted with the service. I have to say I never write reviews, but feel it's necessary in this situation. I took a group of girlfriends from out of town who were really excited to check it out. One of the ladies at the table was very pregnant with gestational diabetes and asked for veggies instead of fries with her $31 entrée. The server said no substitutions was a restaurant policy even though it was a medical concern. She was rude and did nothing to accommodate us. Even after her response, we ordered over $100 in just oysters and asked for the bill to be split fairly amongst the group since it was upwards of $800 for 6 people. We were then met with more resistance and a "against restaurant policy" response yet again about the bill with no effort to try to accommodate. The manager eventually made his way to our table and all he did was rudely defend his "policies" in the most snobby way. He proceeded to tell us that all upscale busy restaurants function this way. Meanwhile the tables around us were empty. My friends and I and love upscale restaurants in big cities with good food. I have NEVER been treated this way by a restaurant that thinks they are better than they are. Nico is overpriced, snobby and needs a lesson from Hall's on how to treat their customers. The food was delicious, but the service ruined the entire experience. I will not be giving Nico my business moving forward sadly. read more

Was very much looking forward to have a nice dinner but they packed us at the bar seats where there was no extra space between us and the other parties despite having made reservations well in advance. When I booked the reservations, I chose " heated patio". Clearly misleading and not observing COVID safety. read more

My husband and I absolutely love eating at Nico as a treat to ourselves. Everything I ever eat here tastes very fresh. The waitresses are always amazing, as well. The prices on everything is very reasonable. When we eat here, we always splurge, so we always order a dozen oysters, the cheese puff appetizer, our main meal (I usually order the bouillabaisse de marseille), the potato gratin, and I HIGHLY recommend the baked Alaska for dessert. Food is absolutely amazing. We live in the area and dine here on a weekly / biweekly basis. Love their raw and baked oysters along with their mussels. However, we have have 2 unpleasant dining experiences due to a staff member. Make sure Sean is not your waiter. He is not attentive or friendly. He does not make eye contact or acknowledge general conversational gratitude. Repeated disservice is noticeable and unacceptable. We will continue dining here, but will make sure to request we do not have Sean as our waiter and will make sure our friends do not as well. read more

The oysters were fine but as a local , it's clear they are not friendly neighbors. They took over a long time abandoned plot and have not made the most of the space. Per usual, not many restaurants can compare to the other spots nearby. Their atmosphere would be better suited to downtown for cheeky tourists or older crowds . If you come to Shem Creek for brunch or a view, they are not the best atmosphere, and they are clearly not supportive of their more fun neighbors. If you are coming into town for French cuisine, downtown spots such as Chez Nous provide higher quality food, cooler vibes, and friendlier management . read more

I've been coming to this restaurant since they opened and have always enjoyed the experience. However, they need to correct the approach of their hostess and service staff. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were told we would be seated at the bar. I asked about an available table that was just off from the bar and were told that that particular table had been reserved . Who knew you could reserve a certain table ? We were then told we would be seated at a table behind the bar, but had to be finished within two hours ... well ok. Several others were told the same. When our water came to the table, he promptly told us we had to order everything at once "at the request of the kitchen ".. more rules of the evening . It was early on a Sunday ! We went for restaurant week and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food was incredible but the service was absolutely awful. It was 15 minutes before our table was acknowledged, by the manager. She offered to let us have happy hour prices on wine to compensate for our wait time. It was still another 5 minutes before our server arrived, without an apology or acknowledgement of wait time. The food was incredible, although it seemed overpriced for the area off of the restaurant week menu. We had the oysters, octopus, steak and snapper. Their homemade minonette and hot sauce for the oysters was delicious as well. All were delicious and attentively prepared. We did have to wait about 45 minutes between our 2nd and 3rd course. Our server only acknowledged this once questioned about our entrees and answered that the kitchen got "confused". The manager again apologized and brought a round of champagne. More attention should have been paid, by all, to the customer experience after we were forgotten to start, but it seems lack of attention/apathy runs rampant through the restaurant. Overall, the food was incredible and the quality of the food is an absolute strength of this restaurant, however, I think they need to place more priority on customer service and genuinely valuing all diners. Great food, great service with a personal touch. I got the foie, the crab and caviar appetizer the seafood pasta and the baked Alaska. loved the seafood pasta the most. Sooooooo good. I'm a little late posting, but I was so impressed with this place the first time, I returned again. I took my wife to Nico on Valentine's Day and did not have a reservation. They were clearly booked, but the manager was determined to find a spot for me and my Queen. We waited only 10 minutes at the bar while he acquired a table and 2 chairs just for us. Aside from the outstanding customer service from him, the hostess, the bartender, and the waiter, the food was superb and on-time, even though they were at capacity. I eat at a lot of the area's fine restaurants, but I have to say Nico is my favorite! The entire team there is motivated to serve the best food and dining experience. It's hard to find a restaurant that checks all those boxes these days. Thank you, Nico for exceeding our expectations. We will be back. read more

Great experience all around. They had valet parking, which just starts the night off right. Our waiter, Patrick, was very knowledgeable on wine options. Muscadine grape based wines are usually sweet and I'm not a fan, but his recommendation for a light white, Oysterman, was spot on with his description. It wasn't sweet at all. Ok, let's talk food. I did all sides as I'm mostly vegetarian. I did the Grilled Cabbage, Kale Gratin, and Green Beans...and that's the order of what I liked the best. Green beans were a little under and nothing special, but the Cabbage, to die for. It was some of the best I've have. Get it, you won't regret. Terrible terrible service. Bad attitude from waitress and manager. Food good but not worth the trouble. Clearly the owner hasn't been to any restaurant other than his. Nobody reads a menu other than for the food to read about payment policies (and what restaurant does this anyway?). True the manager brought dessert, but we weren't looking for anything free. And we weren't "nickeling and dimeing" (which is how they made us feel) the only reason we wanted to split the bills was bc only two people in the group had $100 worth of oysters and we didn't want the others to fork over for our oysters. We also had a girl who is 7 months pregnant and has gestational diabetes and she asked to swap the fries for veggies and the answer was a very rude "no we don't substitute". This is NOT about the money or the free dessert, this is about how rude and unaccommodating they were even though we clearly (the big belly should have been proof enough) had someone with a medical request. We travel extensively and have dined at the finest of restaurants, this subpar "fine dining restaurant" clearly needs to visit a few more and teach their snobby condescending manager that if he is to work in the food service industry he needs to adjust his attitude and be more humble. We had a wonderful meal with the best service I've had in a long time. We started with the oysters, which were perfect. My husband and I are both from the coast and have high standards for oysters, and both the selection and quality were outstanding. For dinner, I had the lobster roll and my husband had the bouillabaisse, both of which were rich and wonderful. We finished with the creme brûlée and cookies, which were lovely and not too sweet. Had dinner at Nicos about a month ago. Friends were visiting from out of town and wanted oysters that night. We had heard this was the place to go for a wide selection of oysters in Mt. Pleasant. The wine selection was lovely and we had no problem picking out a favorite. Our server came across a bit "cocky" with his nonchalant attitude during our dinner. We all enjoyed our food but were a bit shell shocked when the bill arrived - very expensive for what we had eaten. I will go back for wine at the outside bar, but not for dinner again. read more

We had a fantastic meal and our waiter, Nick was excellent . Nick had good energy, made helpful suggestions and provided outstanding service. The French fries and onion appetizer were delicious. The cheese dipping sauce is a must! For dinner we shared the lobster roll and fried shrimp, which were both great. I would order this meal all over again. I also felt very safe.
