Went there for brunch recently. I have an immune disorder and cannot eat 95% of what is on a menu because of the food item or because it is prepared with pepper or some other spice I cannot have. Before making the reservation, I scoured menus for many restaurants and thought Nico had a few options I would be able to order or ask the kitchen to omit a certain ingredient. When we arrived, the menu was different than the once online and the one dish I planned to order was removed from the menu. I asked the waitress about other options such as a shrimp cocktail or a lobster roll without the dressing. Each item I asked about, she said was already mixed with the pepper or sauces. She offered no suggestions. I felt very defeated but kept quiet as not to alert the rest of my party. I ended up ordering a burger with just the lettuce as I could not have a anything else with it. This is what I received. One of my guests ordered an omelet and received long beautiful full bib lettuce leaves on top (not sure why exactly). I felt completely treated horribly. The place was not crowded at all and I really had hoped that a seafood restaurant could have mustered up a few grilled shrimp or a grilled piece of chicken or a veggie. I had 6 guests with me and I paid the bill and felt completely dismissed and left hungry. I cried when I got home because I felt like garbage. The waitress should have asked the chef or made some attempt to see if there was something they could make. I would have been happy to talk to the chef directly but there's didn't seem to be any interest in accommodating me. At the very least, they could have given me some decent lettuce! But beyond that, what kind of seafood restaurant doesn't have any fresh fish or shellfish they could have grilled for a customer with special dietary needs. Very disappointed. Aside from my experience, the food others had was decent. The portions were not very big for the entrees but the desserts portions were very large and I heard they were delicious. Loved this place last time I was here. This time - it was ok. They're overpriced for what they promise. The oysters were not that great from VA, which puzzled me since I just don't think of VA and oysters. Last time that steak poivoir was outstanding, this time they offered a NY strip, not my favorite cut, but I figured they had the top secret recipe to make it as great as last time. Not so much, I don't know why I was so impressed last time, but not this time and at $36.00 it's a pricey NY strip. 4 of us with cocktails, appetizers, sides and main course came out to be over $400.00, so not that bad, but I've had better meals. Had dinner at Nico's several times, and each time was disappointing. I did badly want to like this place because of proximity. The food was just OK every time and at 9:45pm the staff would start sweeping right next to you, stating that they close at 10pm. Their parking has become cumbersome and confusing and the staff doesn't care to insure that you have followed the instructions properly. If you don't or there is a glitch in the system- your car will get towed right away- no warning. Generally, very inconsiderate management and they act as if you're lucky to dine there. The owner and the management were rude and dismissive when I raised my concerns to them. Do yourself a favor and eat better oysters at Rappahanuk or the Darling Oyster- food and management are much better. read more

We have gone to Nico multiple times over the past two years and the food is always amazing. The oysters are fresh and the mignonette sauce and other sauces are wonderful. If you like octopus, the appetizer is one of the best I've had. The whole fish of the day is always incredible. Great cocktail menu and wine list as well. I also love the creme brûlée. Inspired flavorful food prepared with love and attention served by a friendly, cheerful and professional staff in an open yet intimate atmosphere. Seafood meets France. Five of us go out to dinner once a month and Nicos was this month's selection. All five of us were equally happy and impressed with the experience. We started with the Grand Tower, a multi level tower of oysters, clams, lobster salad, crab salad, shrimp, periwinkles and octopus. Fresh and flavorful - amazing tastes and presentation. We followed up with shared appetizers of shrimp and escargot (yum)- baked oysters (rich) and 4 "OT's" which I didn't try but vanished from the plate. Entries included the quenelle - I had that on a previous visit - the scallops, 2 orders of the gnocchi and the sous vide steak. I could easily rave about each entree for another paragraph but my writing is not nearly as good as the food. We split three deserts - the chocolate caramel cake, the baked Alaska (best I've had in 20 years) and the creme brûlée (which came out in a bowl!!). Flambeed table-side, all three plates were cleaned and raves about unanimously. The chef came out to speak to us and was warm, friendly, funny. Sara our waitress was THE BEST!! Such a nice touch. As 5 guys who invade a restaurant once a month, we joke we switch month to month to reduce the chances of getting kicked out. Nicos is already in our let's go back list. We had an amazing night at Nico. I took customers there for dinner on a Thursday evening. Turns out they had half price bottles of (most) the wines. We had the cheese balls and calamari which were both delicious. We had all different things for dinner -steak, beef bourguignon, scallops, trout amandine. Everybody was very pleased. My personal favorite was the trout but I only tried the beef and trout. For the sides we had potato augratin that I just want to eat everyday for the rest of my life and a cabbage side that was delicious as well! For the desserts we had creme brûlée and the baked Alaska. I was fortune enough to visit the great city of Charleston SC last week and luckily found my way to Nico's in Mt. Pleasant for a late nightcap. The atmosphere was just as warm and comfortable as the staff there made us feel as we walked through the door. The servers and management were all very professional, knowledgeable, and so enthusiastic about the menu we were enticed to order the Le Grand (see photo). If you are a raw seafood fan this three tier tower of ocean goodness was nothing short of spectacular and fun to devour as it was to behold. Put it on your bucket list!!! Nico's provided the freshest most innovative drink and dining experience I've had in a longtime and I can't wait to revisit the menu again on my next visit. What a fabulous restaurant! The outdoor bar area is warm and inviting with a very comfortable but upscale type of look to it! Great place to sit and have cocktails and oysters! Our party of six sat inside and loved the open decor. The exposed beams with the rustic woods done in beiges and white was really nice. We all had a variety of oysters from up and down the East Coast. I loved the oysters from Virginia and Maine! I had the whole Maine lobster and others at the table had a variety of entrees from chicken, fish and pasta dishes! Desserts were incredible made by one of the top pastry chefs in Charleston ! Absolutely fine dining! My dad and I are here from Reno, NV and wanted lobster... We got market fresh lobster and more... I was a little underdressed for the restaurant because we just got into town but I was respectful and took off my hat and they gave me no crap for being underdressed. It was loud and social inside but nice and quiet outside. The food and service is absolutely five star! I highly recommend this five restaurant to anyone looking for great selection of oysters and phenomenal seafood and cocktails. read more

I was told to come here for a great meal and they didn't disappoint. I came alone shoo I sat at the raw oyster bar. I ordered the happy hour oysters and they were very tasty, not to mention the presentation was beautiful! I then ordered the crab, silly me, I thought it was crab legs so imagine my surprise when out came a huge platter of blue crabs! I had never eaten these and had no idea where to start. My server asked around and I got a 1 on 1 demonstration by Nick who showed me how his grandmother taught him. I am a quick learner and was a pro before long, even the staff were impressed! By the time my steak arrived I was full but the bite I got in was yummy! I enjoyed chatting with Bella, who I didn't realize I had seen before, at the Oyster shucking contest in NOLA! I showed her my pictures of the event and she was in them! We laughed and had such a great visit. If you are in town you have to go. I went alone and had the best time! In Charleston, you have to weed out all the other competitors ESPECIALLY when it comes time to seafood. I went with a party of 6, all of us ordering 2 different items. Nico A fairly new restaurant to the Lowcountry, NICO is making a titanic splash (see what I did there?) into the lowcountry seafood restaurant pool. Just recently opened in November, NICO has been the talk of the Holy City by offering French style classic dishes, a raw bar filled with local seafood caught in our own backyards, and plenty of oysters, ready to be shucked when you give the word! Let me first give you a run down on the restaurant's location and atmosphere, then we will get to the good stuff. Located on Coleman, near Shem Creek, NICO is easily accessible and the COMPLIMENTARY VALET parking wasn't a bad idea either! You walk in, and you are hit with the "seasoning" of the fresh lowcountry salt-water that comes off the local seafood just caught! The friendly staff definitely adds that southern hospitality as well that makes you just wanna sit down and get ready for a meal (which is what I exactly did). First, I ordered a dozen oysters (can't remember where they were from, but the waiter was on his game and literally told me where everything was harvested or caught). They came out in less the amount of time to find the Snapchat filter that said NICO restaurant! The oysters were fresh, plump, and had that glossy color which is a beautiful site in any seafood lover's eyes. Along the plate of oysters, there were slices of toasted baguettes, two bottles (their own hot sauce in one and a lemon juice in the other), cocktail sauce, and a Mignonnette sauce, which was my favorite! It added the PERFECT acidity to the freshly shucked oysters. Then I got the Seafood Sweats (if that's not a thing, I'm making it a thing now). We ordered the Periwinkles and Shrimp, the Swordfish, and the Lobster Roll. Having no idea what a periwinkle was at first, I dove right in and I wasn't mad about it after I took that first bite. The garlicky, parsley, oily GOODNESS made me want to just order 8 orders of that for my meal! The periwinkles and shrimp added that seafood, salty taste which complimented the mixture of herbs PERFECTLY like Sonny and Cher (or maybe for you Generation Alphas out there, like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds). Let's talk about the Lobster Roll...words can't express how amazing that was. The lump lobster meat was not overly seasoned at all; you could actually taste the lobster and the roll was toasted and buttered just right! NICO did perfect with the swordfish, it was seared perfectly and just a basic seasoning was used so that the fresh swordfish is what one actually could taste! I was not too fond of the sauce that was served with the swordfish due to the aftertaste it had, but other than that, the meal was "LIT" or had me saying "I'm Dead" because it was just THAT good. Overall, other raw bar restaurants should be on their toes with NICO being in the lowcountry. Definitely a contender for the best seafood restaurant in Charleston, in my opinion! Stumbled upon this place with my fiancé and his parents for an "in between snack" between lunch and dinner. A little apprehensive at first because his parents can be very particular with what they eat but everyone found something on the menu. We sampled the oysters (baked and raw), lobster roll and French fries and everything was delicious. However, the best part of this whole experience was the dessert. The baked Alaska and creme brûlée was out of this world!! The desserts are huge and possibly one of my favorite parts of my trip to Charleston. Nico is fast becoming our favorite go to place for seafood and oysters in Charleston. The oyster selection is fantastic and the shuckers always seem to do a great job preparing them. The menu provides detailed descriptions of the oysters also which makes it extra fun. I highly recommend the OT oyster which is a raw oyster topped with tuna. I was skeptical at first (I want to taste the oyster!) but this is truly one of the best mouthfuls of food I have ever had. The entrees are consistently fantastic. Someone at our table always gets the special, and they typically always win best dish of the table. The trout amadine is our favorite menu mainstay. It's consistently cooked to perfection. The service team is super professional and friendly. They all seem very well versed in the menu selections and genuinely seem to enjoy the food served there which I think is pretty cool. We dined here a few days ago and had an excellent time. We had the cheese puffs, escargot, camembert oysters, mussels, tomato salad, mushrooms, potatoes gratin, parisian gnocchi, and steak frites. Everything we had was delicious. Our food was great, but our service was even better. Our waiter Patrick was very helpful, knowledgeable, and nice. Another waiter who helped us was Nick and he was the star of the show. He was the first one to greet us when we seated and really set the tone for a great evening. The restaurant is easy to find. They have complimentary valet parking. We made a reservation for 9pm on a Saturday night for 13 of us. We arrived 30 minutes early and was told that our tables weren't ready. The gentleman, that greeted us, suggested we go to another restaurant for drinks. I thought that was a bit strange as there was a bar there. The rest of our party arrived at 9pm. Our tables still weren't ready. We stood outside of the patio area as multiple people came over to apologize. We were invited into the patio area a few minutes later and was told that we could order drinks while we waited. No one brought us a drink menu or asked if we wanted to order drinks. When we were finally seated, we were in the back of the patio area. Partially booth seating. There's about 4 inches of leg room if you were to sit on the booth side. I got a bruise on my leg trying to squeeze in. I just had water to drink, but had to ask multiple times for the server to fill my glass. I suggested that he leave the pitcher at the table. The food was well prepared. The roasted tomato was great! Unfortunately, we weren't told that they don't do separate bills, and only a few of us had cash. So beware large groups: be sure that one person in the party can cover the bill. Our bill was well over $600 with the gratuity added in. I don't recommend dining here as a large group. I hope they treat their small tables better than this. read more
