The soup was actually the best soup I ever had. The chicken dish was also delicious. We came for our anniversary and they made it so special for us. We had the best time

Such a very special place. They take so much pride in serving such wonderful food! We sat at the big table on the patio, fortunate to be a beautiful night outside.. towards the end however we were getting bit by mosquitoes. I decided to do the wine pairing with dinner. The first two glasses were perfect. Our server explained the menu which was handwritten and Hilton, our server did a great job of explaining in detail the menu which changes every day. We did have one of each appetizer. We enjoyed the stuffed peppers and the sweet breads. I chose the swordfish with vanilla sauce over the pork chop which my husband had. The outdoor patio is a communal table and we met several nice people. It is very pretty . Our dinner here was very memorable!

We finally made it to Chez Nous! Got a reservation on the patio for our anniversary. The patio is super cute and rather than sitting at the communal table, we were seated off to the side at a table for two. The only thing to note is that my husband was in view of a large street light the whole time, but we weren't going to complain. Service was friendly and prompt - the server reads you the menu of the day, and you're at its mercy. Next time I'll probably try to get bar seats after seeing the menu so I can choose my favorite menu! This night's menu was good - steak, fish, celery salad, foie gras, olive oil ice cream, rice pudding. Everything was prepared excellently, but our favorite dish was probably the olive oil ice cream.

Tucked away in a charming historic house, Chez Nous lives up to its name--"our home" in French--offering an intimate, home-style dining experience that feels both personal and inspired. Chef Jill Mathias crafts a new illegibly handwritten menu daily, featuring just two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts--each dish a reflection of what's fresh and in season locally. Our party of three had the good fortune of trying the entire menu, and every course delivered something memorable. The meal began with a delicate stuffed squid, tender and flavorful, and a green salad with ricotta toast that balanced creamy richness with crisp greens. For mains, the milk-braised pork was comforting and deeply savory, while the fish with asparagus and mushrooms showcased bright, springtime flavors and pristine seafood. Each bite affirmed the kitchen's dedication to simplicity, technique, and ingredient quality. Desserts didn't disappoint. The rice pudding with caramel was rich and nostalgic, and the coffee ice cream was smooth, bold, and an ideal end to the meal. Chez Nous offers a rare kind of dining: unpretentious, thoughtfully executed, and rooted in the joy of sharing good food. Chef Mathias' approach feels quietly revolutionary in its restraint and elegance. A must-visit for those seeking something truly special in Charleston. Book your Reservation 30 to 45 days out.

Chez Nous has been at the top of my list for quite some time and it was simply spectacular. We went for birthday date night and couldn't believe we were just a block off of King Street. The outdoor area is so quaint and dreamy. They have a long community table and three two tops. They honored our request for one of the two tops and it was perfect. As sweet as the interior was I just loved the outside feel and would love to do a girls night at the community table. Unfortunately my husband has a nut allergy so we were a bit limited in what we could order but we got one of each entree and loved them both. The bread service was also wonderful. My one complaint is that our server was not as attentive as the other staff outside. Nonetheless, we loved our meal and the vibes and are already planning our next trip back.

Yummy!!!! Definitely need a reservation! Make sure to get here early enough to find street parking. Such an intimate setting. Small menu that rotates daily. Staff are great and will explain everything. Food is so tasty and unique.

We went here for my birthday celebration and it was lovely. I was a little upset that I accidentally booked the bar instead of a table but everything turned out great. I believe the bartenders name was Nicki and she was super helpful. We ended up ordering one of everything on the menu and I decided on the wine pairing. This is a super quaint hidden gem that I had driven past multiple times and heard so much about, so I pleased to finally get to go in. The food wasn't exactly what I expected but it was tasty. I had the hangar steak for my entree and the tuna crudo for my appetizer. The crudo truly stole the show. My mom had the fish and the appetizer with squash and pine nuts and basil. Everything was so fresh and light. I would love to go back and try the menu another night.

WOW the food!!! Yes it comes off a little crazy because you can't read the menu - it's hand written every morning in English and the language of the dish origin - and only have 2 options for each course but my goodness is it worth it. This is a hidden gem that feels like a small European bistro, serving a changing menu focused on dishes from France, Italy, and Spain. Our server - Hylton -was incredibly helpful. He broke down he menu for us, gave recommendations based on our preferences and was just overall a joy to talk to. The food was fresh, flavorful, light yet filling. This fish was beyond flaky and bursting with flavor. The tomato tart was an unexpected star. And of course we got dessert. Drinks were limited but it's ok bc we were there for the food. Tables and space is small, its in a little alley so really have to look but so quaint but may not get space so try again!

Chez Nous is a splendid little restaurant built in a former house found off the beaten path. Having walked here from my hotel I appreciated the ambiance and also glad I didn't take from the limited parking. The restaurant has an old world charm as though I could imagine an inn like this several hundred years ago with its lower ceilings, hand written menus, and cute bar. It is super charming. The service was delightful. I was warmly greeted upon entering and seated at the bar. The bartender was very pleasant to speak with, though initially a little off-putting because I tried explaining that a much more expensive glass of wine would be wasted on me due to my weakened sense of smell and he tried underplaying my explanation as though he either wanted to sell a more expensive wine or he didn't believe me. But that was the only interaction that didn't mesh well - otherwise it was a fabulous experience sitting here. And they do have an amazing wine selection! This is absolutely where you want to go if you love wine. The food was amazing. As many noted already the menu is not static. It is constantly changing, but I can tell you the fish was cooked perfectly - light, flakey, and tender without being dry and no errant bones. The cake also was delightful! It was sweet, dense, and delicious. Super charming restaurant! I recommend reservations due to how busy it became when everywhere else was slow.

Tucked into an alleyway in downtown Charleston is the little hidden treasure, Chez Nous. This is exactly what we were looking for when we asked local ppl where we should eat. Creative, quaint, unique and lovely from start to finish. We did not plan in advance so we had to settle for a 9:30 reservation but we knew it would absolutely be worth it and were happy grab that time spot. The daily menu of 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts is handwritten and changes with the seasons, availability of fresh local produce/proteins and the whim of the chef. Cuisine is a blend of Southern France, Northern Italy and Northern Spain. We loved the ambiance, the service, the amazing food and would absolutely go back again. Fun night out to be adventurous and trust the chef! And that nut tart for dessert made my little heart so happy, perfect!

Ask the Community - Chez Nous

    Is the restaurant wheelchair accessible?

Yes and no. The pathway is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair; however, there are a few steps up into the restaurant dining area or down onto the outdoor patio.

Are they able to accommodate vegetarians?

Yes! The menu changes daily and there's only 2 each of starters, mains, and dessert. It's a scratch kitchen too, so if you let them know you're vegetarian, I'm positive they can make dishes to accommodate you.

Is the only option for outdoor dining at the communal table for a group of 3?

Yes. Outdoor dining is only at the communal table, but it's also a great way to meet new people and make new friends!

Do I need a reservation for lunch?

It's a fairly small restaurant. A reservation would be advisable.

For dinner is the dress still casual?

    Yes.

Do they allow well behaved dogs in their outside seating area?

Sorry, I do not know. I would call to ask because the food is worth it!!!

    Do they take reservations?

They take reservations on RESY or I think you can call.

The space alone is worth a visit -- soaring high ceilings, stunning architectural details, and a beautifully designed bar that immediately sets the tone. It feels grand without being stuffy. We were seated right away in a large semi-circle booth that was both cozy and spacious for our party of four -- the perfect balance of intimate and comfortable. Maddie, our server, greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. We started with a dirty martini, a crisp glass of Sancerre, and two Autumn Old Fashioneds -- all expertly prepared. From there, we asked Maddie for recommendations, and she absolutely nailed every single one. Her guidance truly shaped our evening. To start, we ordered the Pomme Frites and the Sweet & Beet Salad. The frites were a plate of crunchy, golden deliciousness -- yes, a touch salty, but in that can't-stop-eating-them kind of way. The Sweet & Beet Salad might sound like an unexpected pairing with sweet potatoes and beets, but somehow it worked beautifully. The flavors were balanced, thoughtful, and surprisingly harmonious. For mains, the Chicken Fricassée was well executed and comforting. The Boeuf Bourguignon, however, was the undeniable star of the night -- rich, deeply flavorful, and beautifully prepared. It's the kind of dish you think about the next day. The Gnocchi Parisienne was light yet decadent (if that even makes sense), pillowy and indulgent without feeling heavy. We also ordered the Market Catch -- a type of snapper none of us had ever tried before -- and it was cooked perfectly, flaky and packed with flavor. By the end of the meal, we were happily full and couldn't even consider dessert. Maddie suggested we at least pop downstairs to check out the speakeasy bar, even if we didn't grab another drink -- and we're so glad she did. I have to give Maddie the recognition she deserves. She was fantastic -- knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely fun. She made an already wonderful dinner even more enjoyable. An absolute delight. Ask for her if you can. If you're looking for a beautiful setting, classic French-inspired dishes done right, and service that elevates the entire experience, Brasserie La Banque should absolutely be on your list.

I have been living in Charleston since 2010 and have been looking for a French restaurant for years. One day while walking around the French Quarter I noticed a quaint lil French bistro and put it on my "gotta try" list. So I came to see what all the 5 star reviews were about and boy was I disappointed from the get go. I try my best not to judge a book by its cover and lemme tell you I'm not scared of whole in the walls and the gems in different hodgepodge places, if it's got good eats, I'm there. I usually will try a restaurant 3 times before writing a review but helllllll no. The food and experience was so bad y'all! I have to tell you about my experience NOW while the bad taste is still in my mouth! I ordered the soup of the day which was she crab soup and a baguette. I thought cool French baguette is my fave and how could you go wrong with soup. No, I got 2 small slices of stale baguette top with some kind of cheese like a lunchable you can get at the grocery store and soup that was too salty to eat! So I said let me try something that you can't mess up. A croissant! A chocolate one well they messed that up too! How can you get a croissant wrong, and it was store bought croissants! Yuck! From a FRENCH restaurant, not made in house but if I'm wrong then those were the worst croissants ever!!!!!! Please people don't eat here! The serve staff did not greet us, ignored us and asked a white patron about his party of guests even though we were there 10 minutes before and the host knew he did wrong for asking to seat the other guy before acknowledging us because he caught my stare and we locked eyes and I did not back down or break the eye contact to let him know, yea fellow you totally ignored me for 10 minutes and asked the other guy how many in his party 1st! Even after the poor service I was dealt with in the beginning I still wanted to give it a chance, but after hearing how the wait staff addressed other patrons about how short staff they were and how horrible they had to do so many things I about had it. I was looking forward to a hot fresh French press coffee and was let down again. Weakest French press coffee just take my advice and walk swiftly past this whole in the wall. I can't believe this place is still open after so many years. Really Charlestonians!?! Really? I know we have more restaurants per square capita but this one has got to go. We ate some food because we were shopping and so hungry, but after that we paid and left fast

The fig syrup was the star providing a nice sweet and earthy flavor. My wife enjoyed the Harvest in Provence with charred corn mezcal, see the elephant amaro, bonal, lime, simple syrup, and a spiced corn garnish. This drink is so smokey but very refreshing. We were brought a complimentary hors derv which was a house made potato chip with tuna and spices. Really great for getting your palette ready for the coming meal. They only do this from 5pm to 6pm. The burger was a good-sized slider, about the same size as a single cheeseburger with tons of ooey gooey raclette cheese smothering it. Of course, we had to order the Pommes Frites to go with the sliders and they arrived super crispy with a nice rosemary-lemon aioli for dipping. The grand finale was the Boeuf En Croute which was their play on a beef wellington. The filet was a nice medium rare with a flaky pastry crust and a delicious sauce bordelaise. The restaurant offers very limited onsite parking and since we were dining early we were able to nap one. When you walk in there is bar seating to the left, some very comfortable looking oval shape booths that look to seat about 4, and regular tables toward the black. The ceilings are high with a warehouse feel and painted black which seems to be the trend these days. Service was excellent, with just the right amount of attention. I started with Onion Soup Croquet. Think of a deconstructed French Onion soup that is about as unique of a dish as you can find. The dish starts with a medium size crispy Croquet stuffed with onion, and an onion soup broth and topped with lightly melted cheese. This is the a must dish. The wife ordered Octopus Bourguignon, which was Octopus, cavatelli, with a sofrito, bordelaise sauce. While I was not a fan as to how the Octopus and cavatelli played together, the sauce was deep, rich and frankly stunning. The wife and I split an order of Burgundy Escargot, with ramp butter, and baguettes. I like my Escargot the old fashion way smothered in just garlic butter, but this ramp butter was amazing. The wife's main dish was Diver Scallop Cassoulet. Although this was the least of our favorite dish, another unique broth still made this a very solid option. My main dish was the Monkfish Chop. This dish had a nice size piece of fish with a sizeable bone in the center (hence the term Chop). The dish included Almondine, capers, and brown butter jus that again was a fantastic paring to the meat. It also came with a side of Carolina gold rice which was a great way to soak up the brown butter Jus. Frankly, and as you might have deduced from this write up, all the dishes have a unique and amazing broth that needs to be served rice or bread or something else to help soak up and enjoy all of the rich goodness

I made a reservation at the chef's counter -- as a solo diner I'm especially fond of dinner and a show. It is worth noting that only a few of the counter seats actually have a good view of the kitchen, so make sure you add that request if it matters to you. The standard tasting menu is super reasonably priced for a Michelin and I decided to treat myself to both of the substitution upgrades and the wine pairing. Stand out flavors were the duck prosciutto to start (though the scale could have been smaller as the deliciously crumbly tart crust made it difficult to eat this without it falling apart), the seared scallop with billi bi, and the Kagoshima A5 wagyu (which was generously portioned!) I also found the wine pairing unpredictable and spot on! My favorite was the Greek Rose paired with the scallop! I was there on a Wednesday night and all diners were dressed in business casual or southern chic. Bathrooms are spacious and immaculate with wine counters and fragrant soaps. I'm not sure I'd always give this 5 stars -- if I had just had a view of the liquor bottles at the bar would I have enjoyed my experience as much? The interior of the space is beautiful with a lantern lit walkway and soaring ceilings with artful projections on the wall. I'm sure it's lovely for a special date night or celebratory dinner. He was sharp, knowledgeable, and effortlessly personable. Truly, every restaurant should have a Caleb. (And every guest should be lucky enough to have one!) Wild Common is absolutely a special-occasion restaurant. The pomp and circumstance of the service -- the pacing, the presentation, the storytelling -- elevates the entire experience beyond just "dinner." Now let's talk about the food. Holy. Cow. It's a Chef's Tasting menu, so the only decision we had to make was between the Australian Wagyu and the NY Strip -- obviously we had to try one of each. Both were outrageous in the best possible way. Perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth bites that you think about long after you leave. There were five courses plus beautifully executed "snacks" to start, and we opted for the wine pairing with each course (highly recommend). Every pour complemented the dish in a way that made each bite even more exciting. The menu changes weekly, which somehow makes it feel even more special -- like you're part of a moment that won't be repeated exactly the same way again. I almost feel like words are inadequate when it comes to Orlando Pagán's food. The balance of flavor and texture is genius-level. Creative without being pretentious. Refined without losing warmth. He is clearly doing exactly what he was born to do. We were lucky enough to meet Chef Pagán when he personally served one of our courses. Not only wildly talented, but also humble, kind, and incredibly personable. That interaction alone made the night even more memorable. I could go course by course and try to describe every detail, but honestly, I'd never do it justice. Look at the menu. Look at the pictures. Just know that it was all far better than I could ever properly express. If Wild Common isn't on your list, it should be. This wasn't just a five-star dinner -- it was a ten-star birthday celebration.
