I recently had the pleasure to stop by Nick's Pizza for lunch and it did not disappoint. The employees made me feel welcomed and provide me with suggestions on what their best seller was. We ordered the classic pepperoni and each slice was baked perfectly with that golden crust. The pizza was bursting with flavor as I took each bite. We also purchased a chocolate chip cookie and it smelled amazing. The warm chocolate chip melts in your mouth. My new favorite spot for pizza!! This place is INCREDIBLE. Sourdough pizza is the way to go if you don't want to feel that lethargic bloat after a meal. Maybe i was hungry, but i easily finished half the pizza myself. I loved that the pizza base was thin but crispy. Also love that they have seasonal specials (on top of their regular pizzas). WOW. I'm a simple girl and when it comes to pizza, the basic the better. We got the white pie and boy did it smell good. How did it taste? Amazing. The sourdough crust was crispy , not greasy, and soft but a sturdy foundation for the topping. Easy on the sauce and right amount of cheese. Everyday I look up Nick's is expanding! Went from a pizzeria to now a pizzeria/bakery with cookies, bagels and scones. Love the unique sourdough pizza. The menu changes biweekly, but you'd be lucky to catch the Tarte Flambee if it's that time of the menu. Sweet caramelized onions, with goat cheese and bacon is always just what the doctor ordered. What's really cool is Nick's has slices to go and salads. Also there's always a vegetarian option other than just plain ol cheese on the menu. I really like having Nick's in the neighborhood - a great spot to get my carb fix. I must admit I haven't had their pizza in a while, but I probably go every 1-2 weeks in the mornings to get scones and bagels. I enjoyed my chocolate cherry scone the other day (haven't had that from them before!). I also like their bacon cheddar scones, although I didn't enjoy it as much last time so I haven't gotten it in a while. I was pretty unhappy with my bagels this past Sunday. I switch on and off between Nick's and Boichik because Nick's are cheaper and usually pretty good, albeit very variable in size and shape (sometimes they're tiny, sometimes they're really fat). But last Sunday all 6 of the bagels I bought were way too chewy - maybe overbaked? My jaw hurt after eating one. They were basically inedible on day two. One of the bagels was really flat. I was pretty disappointed :( I will still continue going and will try the bagels again someday - hopefully they're better next time! read more

Their sandwiches and salads are super solid as well, you can't go wrong. The ranch is unique, at first I wasn't sure, now I'm addicted to it. It's more of a liquidity texture then standard American store bought ranch, is super fresh, perfectly garlicky, compliments any slice. There's also have a few desserts that are super good, don't miss those. The restaurant is super clean, the patio is huge. I live down the street and have been countless times, it's 100% consistent in quality, cleanliness and quick friendly service. I've seen how Nick runs the place, he cares about the team and community, he often puts on events and even fundraisers for orgs. Dog owners unite! Another walk up window that makes it easy to grab a bite with the pup in tow. I tried their plain bagel with cream cheese and lemon berry scone. The bagel itself was SO fresh and fluffy! You can see from the photo the cream cheese was a little on the thin side and thus the cream cheese to bread ratio was a little off IMO. I was craving something to eat on the go, and something local. Enter Nick's Pizza. Small and quaint, just the way I like my restaurants. Did a phone order, and the food was ready a little bit after they said it would be, which is good because I wanted my pizza fresh out the oven. The staff was also super friendly. FOOD: Nick's Pick pie. This thing is serious. Sourdough crust, fired up to perfection. Crispy bottoms, fluffy interiors, with great flavors. Every ingredient on this had something to say and was great. A blend of savory, bitter, tangy, lightly sweet; it all came together quite well. Fresh arugula and cheese were great. My girlfriend and I were supposed to share this with some of our friends, but we ended up eating the entire thing, which the last few bites were difficult to get down. Highly recommended. Onion bread. Decided to splurge and get some of their bread and was not disappointed. Soft, and flavorful. Could've eaten the whole thing by itself, but obviously works well with olive oil. On a given day they have the standards such as cheese, mushroom, or pepperoni, but also they have 2 or 3 specials as well. Pepperoni Pizza - 5 stars - What can you say, a standard done very well. Pepperoni was flavorful. Crust was perfect - not too hard or soft. I dont see how you can improve this unless you go creative and crazy at which you cant really call it a Pepperoni Pizza. Olive and Herb Pizza (Castlevetrano and Kalamata Olives, Caramelized Onions, Fresh Herbs) - 5 stars. I think my favorite part about this is the abundance of the sweet onions paired with the saltiness of the olives. It works really well against each other. Artichoke and Smoked Mozzarella Pizza (Marinated Artichoke Hearts with Red Onion, Fresno Peppers, and Smoked Mozzarella) - 4 stars - everything tasted fresh, really recommended for artichoke fans. My only personal wish was for double the amount of artichoke. But maybe I had been spoiled by Artichoke Pizza. Cinnamon Roll - 4 stars - very delicious, almost perfect. I would like to give it 5 stars. Lemon Bar - 5 stars - a jam packed bar of butter and lemon goodness. Its quite thick and rich tasting. Japanese sweet potato Pizza - 5 stars - Had this several times in the past, its a very unique item, mixing the sweetness of the potato with the rest of the savory pizza cheese tastes. My favorite pizza here! Its hard to compare Nick's Pizza with other local favorites such as Cheeseboard or Arizmendi because Nick's is slightly different in that its pizzas are slightly thicker, and therefore the sourdough is more prounounced - although not overbearing. read more

I finally had a chance to try out Nick's Pizza after a few years of living in Berkeley. I ordered online to celebrate the end of the first full week of 2021 (we all needed it...) and got a 16" sausage and rapini and and a 12" Japanese sweet potato. The order estimate was quite long (100+ minutes at 5:30pm) but that was my fault for not planning ahead earlier--you can schedule an order ahead of time online. Overall pickup experience was so-so only because the order was 30min late and had to wait outside until 7:45pm. It sounds like that night they were especially slammed due to a sudden uptick of orders--it happens, so I won't harp too much on that. The staff was still courteous and apologetic and moving as quickly as they could. As far as the pizza goes, Nick's definitely has its own distinct style (to which they call it "Oakland style" themselves). The crust is a little chewier, and it is sourdough. The pizza is also a lot less "heavy": I demolished five and a half slices of the sausage rapini. I probably would attribute it to the lack of greasiness--even after the meal, the box was noticeably absent of grease from underneath the pizza box. My s/o did remark that while the Japanese sweet potato pizza was really tasty, it could've used a bit more cheese--she's also used to more East Coast style pizza. The sausage rapini itself had a nice balance of spicy, sweet, and bitter between the sausage, rapini, chili flakes, and caramelized onions. Overall, very solid pizza--definitely wouldn't mind having Nick's Pizza again! read more

I love everything about Nick's Pizza. I'd been driving past it for a while and finally stopped in a few months ago. The pizza is great. It is a thin crust pizza (the best kind!) and the toppings are full of flavor. I haven't had a bad slice yet. I haven't had a meh slice yet. It is so much more than a pizza joint. They make some of the best sourdough bread I've had. I drive out of my way to get their bread. I am a former baker so I like to think I know something about baked goods. They also make sandwiches and deli salads which I haven't tried yet. There is a lot more there than meets the eye. Be sure to check the menu for things not readily visible. This was once a 5 star place when it came to bagels. Apparently now an afterthought only available on weekends. The hours have always been a problem and they moved from 5 days a week making bagel sammies, only until 11am, now to only 2 days. Pizza is great but there are lots of pizza places and it is easier to make them at home. Sad really, this was once my go to for bagel n lox classic, I told everyone about it. Shame. Closed for Mothers Day and Fathers day. I went 6 last times to be turned away for one reason or another (closed, new hrs, or no bagels) This one really hurt. They also offer vegan pizzas which is perfect since I'm lactose intolerant. Service is fantastic. Always fast, always responsive, and when mistakes happen, always courteous and quick to remedy. I mainly go here for the bagels and pastries, which I love. Coffee is not my fave but still drinkable and it's convenient to grab a cup with my bagel. I've gotten pizza here a few time and found the meat slices a bit greasy but the vegetarian slices have all been delish. It's a nice neighborhood joint and there's a good amount of outdoor seating. Counter service has always been friendly when I've been there. I hope more Oakland businesses explore the co-op model, it seems to be working well here. read more

The classic was tasty in a more traditional way, but I'd recommend the Popeye if you want to try something a little more funky! The date salad was a game changer. So had a slice of the white pie pizza, while waiting. Asked them if they can warm it up and their service couldn't have been friendlier. The pizza was chewy, crisp, hot and very flavorful; but a tad too salty for me; I still devoured it. The garlic and cheese pull apart bread was so perfect in being chewy and crisp.
