This is the third location I've tried of this obviously popular Greek fast food chain. The Downtown Berkeley location has been operating for well over two years, but even though I'm in the immediate vicinity a lot, I've never tried it before. I have to admit the more Nick the Greek proliferates, the less I feel motivated to try it. That's because my previous experiences have been more middling than exceptional. What led me here was the convenience afforded me from the GrubHub app. I could pick up my order in less than 15 minutes and be on my bus on time. I ordered the $16.95 Prasini Salad with Chicken Gyro (Photo 7). The salad itself was refreshing enough consisting of romaine, scallions, dill, and crumbled feta with lemon zest dressing. The chicken gyro was unfortunately a bit greasy and overcooked. It didn't really enhance the salad. Instead of going for their signature Avgolemono Soup (which I've enjoyed), I probably made a mistake ordering the $5 Fries which had a similar consistency to the chicken (Photo 5). I'm impressed how Nick continues to pop up almost automatically in places with high foot traffic, but I'm hoping the speed of their growth is not compromising execution of their food. FOOD - 3 stars...the salad was good but the chicken and fries were lacking AMBIANCE - 3 stars...typical Nick decor, barely there for pickup SERVICE - 2.5 stars...transactional, no impression TOTAL - 3 stars...consistently middling RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? Fast and easy and tasty meal. It was a convenient and filling lunch at Nick the Greek in Berkeley.

For a second I was thinking maybe this is better in person but I see the reviews are mixed and in person people are experiencing the same things I did as a delivered order. The loaded fries were super old tasting and very dry and stale and the raw garlic did not taste fresh. The gyro was loaded with onion and the meat was dry and the pita tasted old but I refuse to waste food. I was told it tasted better last time it was ordered by my friend so maybe this was just a bad day where food was sitting for too long but I'm not going to be trying this again. There's a spot on the corner of Hearst and Euclid that is so good and the staff are extremely friendly. I will make the trek and go there.

This review is based on a pick up order for a catered lunch. We placed an order from Nick the Greek, it included: rice, pita bread, Greek salad, chicken, falafel, tzatziki sauce and Greek salad dressing. We placed an order to feed 18 people and the the servings were hearty. Everyone really enjoyed the food and we would definitely order from them again. For our order with tax and tip it cost $431.

Love this spot! The group with chocolate is my absolute favorite dessert. The gyro bowls are tasty and filling as well.

Chicken Gyro Pita

The lady at the front is very nice and helpful! However I am just really disappointed that I am spending this much on a gyro for literally 6x fries. At first they forgot the fries on the first order, I went back and when I checked it I saw it, but starting to eat, and there is literally only 6x fries on the whole gyro! I try not to be petty on things like this, but 6x fries on a gyro, for $15 is actually crazy! This is literally my LAST time spending my money there! Please count the fries on the gyro.. literally only 6x!

My husband was working at a jobsite on Bancroft and would tell me me how good this place is and as a blue collar that says something cause he is meat and potatoes kind of guy This is more my thing so when I had a job walk there I definitely had to try and man was it GOOD! got the gyro bowl and it was so dam tasty! Had the lamb/beef yet it was so light and refreshing with the cucumber, red onion, delicious sauce that truly took my time eating it at my desk when I got back to work. Wish I had this place in Lodi cause I would be there everyday

The Greek yogurt with honey, and baklava is amazing, also they have abundance of options, their menu and super affordable!!

Small place with a few tables and good food decided to give them a try…read moreI ordered: Spicy Chicken Sandwich With Pepper Jack cheese (4 Stars). It came with a side of coleslaw (3.5 Stars) and spiced honey (3 Stars). They fried a whole breast, it was so large that it over flowed the toasted brioche bun. The only thinking that made it spicy was the homemade spicy mayo, so it wasn't that spicy. I noticed on the menu they have sauces, like Nashville and buffalo. I think next time I'll try one of those sauces to kick up the heat. The cheese I add was not needed, I should have left off. The Fries (4 stars) were coated with potato flour and seasoning, which made a great crispy crust, served hot. Mac N' Cheese (4 Stars $6.49) I ordered the small 8oz, it was corkscrew pasta covered with a cheese sauce that was awesome with some Cajun spices, a like dirt Mac and some extra cheese on top. Until next time...

The burger was fresh and flavorful--you can taste the quality in every bite. The onion rings were on point too: crispy, not greasy, perfectly cooked. Dipping them into the habanero mayo gave it just the right kick. Definitely recommend that combo. The staff was friendly and kept things cool even though there were only two or three people running the place. The spot itself is small, just a few tables and chairs, with a little bit of Latin music playing in the background, which gave it a nice touch. When I first got there, it wasn't too busy, but by the time I finished, it was filling up. Walked around the block to stretch out, came back 15 minutes later, and the place was packed. What's also impressive is that their fried chicken sandwich was voted one of Yelp's Top 50 Fried Chicken Sandwiches in California, ranking #33 in the state. That's what I'm definitely trying next time. Final verdict: Great burger, great onion rings, friendly service, and a spot worth checking out if you're around University Ave in Berkeley. Two thumbs up from me.

I decided to call them up and order a double cheese burger and garlic fries in order to satisfy my late night burger cravings. What I like about A+ is that they put real effort into crafting their burgers/sandwiches. That means quality ingredients, freshness, and solid portions. When I opened the bag to take a look at my meal I realized that I had forgotten how huge their beef patties were! The first bite was excellent... cheesy & beefy goodness between two quality buns. The garlic fries also did not disappoint. They had a great garlic flavor and were crispy yet perfectly fluffy on the inside. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of my meal. In terms of physical location, their restaurant is relatively small and mostly just offers outdoor seating. The area is covered so it is perfectly fine for an evening bite. The staff here are friendly and will answer any questions you might have. A+ remains one of my favorite local burger joints. Check them out sometime!

I love that you can choose the doneness of the patty. I went with medium, and it came out perfectly cooked. The bun was soft, buttery, and rich without feeling too greasy, and every ingredient seemed intentional and added something distinct to the burger. It is a very large burger, though, so be prepared for it to get a little messy. There is a restroom where you can wash your hands, but it requires a key, so bringing hand sanitizer or wet wipes may be helpful. Overall, the burgers are definitely on the pricier side, but I thought the quality justified it. I'd happily come back again.

The employees are friendly and helpful. First of all, the inside is huge! I was surprised by how much seating there is. Also, there is an upstairs area with MORE seating! You order at a computer screen at the front, but employees are there to help you if you need assistance. It was easy to order our food. They text you when it's ready and you go pick it up at the counter. Burgers - perfectly cooked and hot - and delicious. SO many toppings you can choose from. Fries - hot and crispy. Served with ranch, and lots of other sauce options. We are not soda people really, so we drink water usually. Two burgers and two fries was $25.00 which isn't bad for downtown, freshly made food. This is a great option for campus.

The Center Street location didn't look like much, but it was a fun, busy place either to wait for or to enjoy your food. This location? It feels crowded. I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I miss the lovely Iranian woman who often helped my coworkers and me at the Center Street location. I sometimes think about her when I hear about violent crackdowns in Iran and obviously this most recent, pointless war. I hope she's OK. She is a very sweet, intelligent person, and I often enjoyed hearing her takes on politics and the news of the day, even if I didn't always agree with her. The service I've had at this location has been fine. Efficient and mildly friendly, but once you've experienced the warmth of a familiar nice person, anything less is a letdown.

The staff is super accommodating, and the incredibly friendly atmosphere makes it worth a visit just to experience their hospitality. The french fries are exactly what McDonald's fries WISH they were. They arrive hot and lightly salty, featuring an addictive, crispy golden exterior and a perfectly fluffy interior. However, as someone who deeply knows street food, the main dishes did not quite live up to the hype for me. The burger, which came stacked with bacon and a thick fried onion ring, was decent but fell short of expectations. The chicken sandwich was generously layered with slaw, but the sauce was entirely bland and you have to pay extra for cheese. Even the side of ranch dressing left a lot to be desired, as it tasted basically like plain mayonnaise. Overall, the burgers and sandwiches are good, just not mind-blowing or living up to the hype. It is definitely a solid place to try for lunch, but I personally would not waste a full dinner out in the city here. But do come check it out, just go for the welcoming vibes and make sure you get a large order of those incredible fries!
