This review is specifically for the CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) center that we…read morevisited today but I have used other parts of their system in the past too. We had several pieces of tech accessories to dispose of, outdated and mostly not working either. They were taking up space we needed to clear. We took them out to this facility, near several other facilities they operate. Good website with lots of directions and maps and fee scale. It was easy to find, followed directions out there and turned out to be easier than expected, early on a weekday. There is a fee for entering but only $3.00 and it is added to your bill if you have to pay any fees for what you bring in. We took several pieces for which there was a fee but it is very reasonable at $0.59 per pound and they do not weigh any of the accessory cables. Our pile of an old printer, a flat bed scanner and a wireless router came to only 24 pounds. We will be back another time with a few things that need their hard drives erased beforehand and I believe most of these devices are free to recycle. I will also use the Hazardous Household Recycle location again which I have used more frequently in the past for old paints and yard and household chemicals that are outdated, etc. That location is a block north of this one. It's nice to have a local community facility that will responsibly dispose of these objects. They also provide an option for bulk items, like cardboard, block rigid foam, scrap metal etc. A lot of those are free also. I suspect they are pretty busy on Saturdays and they are not open on Sundays. Better than sending this stuff to a landfill and will accommodate things than cannot go out in curbside residential recycling. We have done the curbside for decades, as long as it has existed in Boulder.

I'm a huge fan of Eco-Cycle and all they do to support our beautiful community. From recycling and…read morecomposting to presence at local events they always have their best foot forward. I've actually had the pleasure to be on the "green team" at Hanuman Yoga Festival for a couple of years as a volunteer. They educated us in a helpful and encouraging way so we could assist event attendees in properly compost, recycle, and discard with care. Contained within it's substantial walls is CHaRM (Center for Hard-to -recycle materials). Here you can properly hand off anything from a fax machine, to paint, to a yoga mat! The cost is often determined by weight so you can feel good letting go of those challenging items without breaking the bank or feeling bad putting it in the regular garbage. Every interaction I have had at their facility or volunteering under their guidance has been a pleasure. I look forward to doing some spring cleaning and visiting Eco-Cycle with items that aren't quite fit for donation.

It's rather embarrassing to admit that I frequent this store more than weekly (don't even bother…read moreasking, I won't disclose the number of visits). Over the past year I've gotten to know at least one person in each department. Many have been with King Soopers for over 10 years, some at this very location for the whole 10+ years. Everyone is very prideful of their job, friendly, and fun to have a chat with. There's always a display at customer service for the Friday Free item (yes, you read correctly, each Friday King Soopers announces one product for free that you can load via logging into their website or app. Sometimes it's cat treats, sometimes it's mashed potatoes, most recently it was a candle - you never know). The Cheese department features small cuts of lots of fine cheese so go ahead and splurge on a small chunk before going for the whole shebang. There's an awesome variety of cracker and hummus to boot! The produce department boasts a great selection of organics as well as conventional. Sometimes they even have a section for Misfits (those that may have a little bruise or otherwise be considered imperfect) at a discount. Great way to stock up on some things - particularly if you are a juicer like me. The clearance racks (yes, there is more than one) are located near the restroom and are typically overflowing with bakery items, flowers/plants and some odds and ends from grocery (vitamins, canned goods, it varies). More often than not things are in perfect condition and I've always seen everything to be in date (i.e. not expired or even close to expiry). The meat department often features samples of sausage, salmon and other goods. While they don't sell suet in the meat case you can call ahead and request that they hold some fat aside for you from their morning cuttings (it's getting cold out, those wild birds need their suet!). The dairy department has often surprised me with a great selection of products I'd typically only expect to find at Whole Foods (Malk, Vegan cheeses, etc.). Whatever your shopping needs I definitely recommend this store. Let them know what you think after your visit and earn 50 points towards gas savings in the King Soopers app by completing a visit survey (the invite will be on your receipt). Oh, and last but certainly not least - check the back of that receipt! There's a FREE Yoga class at the Yoga Loft just a few steps away from the store.

But the experience I had last week is what is prompting me to write this review. It wasn't necessarily king soopers but they allowed it so I do hold them somewhat accountable. The community food share was our front and the man who was very aggressively pushing people to buy groceries. I found it so inappropriate it took a lot to not say something to him and the people with him. Right now so many people are struggling to put food on their own tables. Food, rent, gas, cars, utilities and so many more things have increased but you know what hasn't? Pay. He reminded me of a panhandler getting upset that you don't give them money. I imagine I was not the only person completely appalled by him.
