The good news: the store is clean and the staff is great. The bad - the prices keep going up and now are sky high (as other reviewers have mentioned) for a range of items both high to low quality; doesn't matter which it is, they are going to slap a high price on it and see if they can get it. It's like they are pricing in anticipation of their 1/2 price days and want to make sure they get X amount, so they double it, and cross their fingers. Whomever is pricing items in the back gets on eBay, finds the highest price on a similar item listed and that's the price they put on it at the store. BUT, eBay has a huge audience, and people are willing to pay those prices because they have found EXACTLY what they have been searching for. A thrift store is a different beast, and can't ask these same prices. I understand that this is a charity thrift store, and I support their cause, but I can't support the store anymore. read more

I'm seriously disappointed in this thrift store! They have REMOVED THE DRESSING ROOMS! How is one to figure out if the clothes that look interesting fit? This is my favorite thrift store in Boulder. There aren't really antique stores in town so this is where I go to find funky things. I get a lot of Christmas sweaters from here as well as add to my teacup collection. Lol. It is a tad stinky sometimes because of the dispensary in the same lot. The Boulder Hospice supports families as they ease their loved ones through the dying process, so this organization is hugely important to the community and we will all at some point appreciate their services. The thrift store supports the hospice services and provides the community with a fantastic way to pass on the treasures from one family to another, and in a lovely way, keep it in the family. The employees/volunteers are all such pleasant professionals, and the atmosphere is always good. One of this store's specialties is games and puzzles. If you are planning a game night, you can always count on being able to pick up something new to try or something old to enjoy again. When we travel, we pick up some games and leave them at the places we stop at to play at for others to enjoy on their journeys, too. read more

We wound up in the parking lot of this wonderful thrift stop by accident, we were trying to make our way to Avery and turned a bit too soon. But I do believe everything does happen for a reason, and that wrong turn was no mistake! I love thrift stores, oh my, soo much. I can wander for hours in the aisles browsing all the obsure goodies and finding sweet little treasures. I find it all very entertaining, my husband not so much. I also am a huge advocate for hospice, and honestly foresee a career in this field. So as you can see, no mistake on the wrong turn :) We both enjoyed this thrift shop. The clothes were great, I found a lovely sweater that fit. The books were fantastic. I picked up a few children's books for my niece. All in all, I spent less than $5.00! It didn't seem like enough, I wanted to give more! The selection of furniture was also very nice, I would have purchased a dresser, but we were not going back to Denver after so that would have been a problem. I also found a set of dishes I wanted to get, but quickly realized the need vs want won, and I really did not need. The store was clean and staff was so nice. The selection of goods is vast, and not junk! I adore this thrift shop. It's our family's favorite store to shop over Target. You never know what you'll find. My sister recently had twins adding to her young family and had asked for help finding winter clothes for the family. I found winter coats, snow pants, everything for them for under $30 total! A North Face jacket and Marmot pants were in the mix too. So it's a clothing gold mine if you're patient and keep going back to hunt. Their donations days can be hard because of Covid and everyone's donating A LOT of stuff and filling up their allotted donation space. Their storage containers are used to hold the donated items for a few days to keep their volunteers safe. So please be flexible and understanding with this. read more

Staff is normally nice except for one extremely rude balding 40 something man. I went to checkout and while I was checking out I yawned and this man had the audacity to say "dude you just yawned in my face" "don't do that next time you come in". I laughed like it was a joke but he was DEAD serious. He looked me dead in the eyes and told me not to YAWN in his store. Wildly rude and made me leave ridiculously disappointed. He was also being pretty mean to a 8 year old kid who was playing around with a toy and kept making uncomfortable comments to him. Like man, that kid is 45 years younger than you. Absolutely insane, have never seen anything like it in terms of customer service. Should've asked for a manager. Absolutely astounded by the audacity of the workers here. Hopefully their workers get taught the most basic semblance of human decency and customer service. I usually love Tru because they have a great variety of vintage and secondhand clothes, albeit kind of terrible prices. I frequent this place a lot and the staff is normally sweet and accommodating, but today while my boyfriend was checking out, the 40-something cashier (male; bald; gave manager vibes) got really mad and yelled at my boyfriend for yawning near him?????? like literally he was a little sleepy and let out a tiny yawn and the employee was like dude you just yawned right in my face are you kidding me. like who gets mad at a yawn?????? what a weird thing to say to someone, and to a customer no less. on top of that, they were doing a student discount but I lost my student ID a few months back and didn't want to pay $50 for a new one when I don't need it, so I told him I could show him my class schedule for this upcoming semester, which is unequivocal proof that I am enrolled at CU. he snapped back that showing him my schedule was "fine, I guess" but that I better have my ID next time. his tone was super unnecessarily rude and snarky for something so inoffensive, and no other employees have ever given me grief for not having my ID since I can prove that I am a student. like why does it matter if I do or don't have my ID if I can still prove that I'm a student??? and why would you be so mean about it????? I've never been more uncomfortable in a thrift store. needless to say he absolutely ruined our vibes for no good reason at all. read more

If you are trying to donate to TRU, be aware that 80% of the time they wouldn't take my things (many really good) because of lack of space, they didn't like/wat it, or they didn't feel like it. I am in a love-hate relationship with Hospice Care Thrift Shop, and after yesterday, I do not believe I will be continuing to shop there. I am a frequent shopper, and I have spent a lot of money there (can't tell you how many of those frequent shopper cards I've filled). I've donated lots of goods and clothing, and money as well. The outrageous prices are the reason why I no longer want to shop at hospice. Nothing is more outrageous than the furniture prices, but there are also the occasional shoes that I get so excited to stumble upon!!!....until I read the price tag, ($30, $40...what??? I can buy a new pair of shoes for less. No way!) What happened to the days where thrift stores were FOR lower income people to benefit themselves? This is not a thrift store, it's a high end used boutique, just slightly dirtier. I understand its for charity. BUT THERE IS A DELICATE BALANCE, and they are tipping the scale. I've been thrift shopping for years, out of necessity and for the love of finding a good treasure. Hospice makes it nearly impossible to get that special feeling of finding something special for a great price--because they're so neurotic about overpricing everything, that I end up begrudgingly buying something I really want, but not feeling like I got a deal. You're SUPPOSED to feel like you get a good deal...these are items that have been used, discarded, and given to you for no money at all. You should really listen to your customers, and the numerous reviews that are telling you to PLEASE lower your prices so that people who can't afford a whole lot can still support you. read more

Visiting a lovely lady in Boulder- she had said I would love this store- especially it was 50% off everything in store, with all proceeds going to hospice, a very noble cause. She did not lie. I bought three printed silk scarves- one was Dolce & Gabbana, two silk slips- one Nicole Miller, the other VS (new with the original retail store tags on!), three pairs of high heeled stillettos: black patent Joan and David, pink suede Dolce Vita and blue and white Iron Fist, a drapey black dress by Velvet, a fitted Rolling Stones tee, a backless gray long sleeved cotton tee, a gold jeweled hair comb, a stack of books, a new-in package pampered chef orange peeler, a black leather wristlet purse, a vintage print Paella apron, a long vintage tablecloth- it was awesome. I even found in the back of a dresser drawer in a corner a brand-new Agent Provocateur bra, new, with all the original retail tags, in my size, for $1.50. No I did not misplace that decimal point... a steal. Add two more zeros and you are ready there for the store/website retail price. It was insane. I paid $50 for all that listed above plus a metal reusable water bottle. What wasn't insane was the kindness of the shoppers and especially the gracious helpful patience of those working. I was thrilled. To the person who donated all those fabulous stilettos in 7 1/2- thank you, thank you kindly. I held back. Let us have a moment of silence for the things I did not buy- a brand new aero garden, a kitchen aid sorbet/ice cream maker, a stack of books including Julie and Julia, a brilliant Rachel Roy fuschia cocktail dress, a dreamy white beaded maxiskirt, a cute gray and scarlet Betsey Johnson leopard knit convertible turban/beret hat, a pair of vibrant orange size nine (I'm a 7 1/2) heels with a sunset painted on the heels, all the cocktail glasses in every conceivable color you can imagine and finally, the metal water bottle with clasp that I did buy that my boyfriend lost no less than hours later. It was $1 but sells retail for $18 (the retail store tag was still on it). Moment of silence. Good news is, there's really great items still there for you to buy! I had to buy a box to fed-ex my purchases back to Chicago. Totally worth it. Go! read more

I really liked the store when it first opened and was in its original location further west on Arapahoe but even before they moved seemed to be becoming higher priced than it should be for a store that *gets all of its merchandise donated*. When it moved to its current location the prices escalated dramatically and have continued to increase faster than the rate of inflation. I recall buying multiple pairs of shoes, outfits, jewelry, books and maybe a piece of wall art on a single visit. Now I'm appalled by the prices and am unlikely to purchase anything unless I really want it or has somehow escaped the over eager inflated tagging that seems to happen so often there. I don't know who all these people are who think they're getting a deal of some sort shopping there; I beg to differ. They also throw away a large percentage of the donations. With the name change I sort of wonder if it's become a for-profit store that only needs to donate a small percentage of total sales to a given nonprofit in order to provide tax donation receipts. Ares in Boulder falls in that category, Savers did as well and I'm sure there are many, many others in the surrounding area like that. The last time I went in there, sure there were some nice things but there were water stained books also, ugly acrylic yarn priced as for fine wools, inexpensive jewelry priced as fine jewelry, rank beginner and mass produced corporate art (you know, high end hotel room art and corporations that want to book "nice" but are actually rather sterile) priced as "real art", etc. i'm not sure what the deal is with these overpriced "thrift" stores. Do they think they get better Donations if they price their merchandise higher? Are they like people in higher end neighborhoods that don't want to let their property be sold for a reasonable price at a garage sale because they know what they paid and want to be compensated with that in consideration? Who knows? I just know I probably won't shop there again, nor will I donate. read more

Used to like this place a lot, and while I certainly still support the charity that sponsors the store, I will no longer be supporting the store with my business or donations. On the shopping side, I have noticed more and more strange prices, and the straw that broke the camel's back was when I bought a used sentry safe fire proof case last week for $25. I don't price compare at these sorts of stores because they are a charity, and if it is a few dollars more than a used one on ebay, so be it (for a good cause). But I had to stop at home depot on the way back, and walked by the exact same box, new, for less than $20. I paid a $5 premium for a used one, that is just a scam taking advantage of shoppers there to support the charity. I also noted on their website that the times for donations had been cut back to Fridays and Saturdays only, so I packed up a bunch of new with tags clothes and items I found cleaning my apartment to donate in support of the charity in these hard times. I diligently show up, following the procedure described on their website, only to be greeted by a "no donations today". I thanked them for wasting my time, and will not be back. As George W Bush famously said, "There's an old saying in Tennessee I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Great service lovely women running the store. Loved going here great until a week ago when I saw a bedbug under the collar of a robe that was in the store. I left immediately and called the store from the safety of my car but they did not seem to be too concerned or shut down the store. I would double check if they cleared this issue before you go. I check out this thrift store every so often, the money goes to a really great cause. The prices are great and the staff is really nice. They do have a nice selection of dishes and accessories. I picked up my mom a bunch of clip-on earrings that came from Macy's. The staff is also really sweet. My boyfriend also picked up a bunch of old cd's. As much as I like to support this place I have to be honest and say that it's sort of a hit or miss with the selection. The selection of clothes isn't great, at least for me. I've rarely found anything there when I've shopped for my boyfriend or myself for different occasions. It probably has to do with the demographic and the type of people that donate. I stick to this place for the other home items, accessories, and furniture. One great thing to note- they have a rewards card! If you spend $10, they check off a box, and then after 10 you get $5 off (I think, I may be slightly off with the deal). All in all it's a good deal and those boxes can surprisingly add up quickly. read more

Shopping at this thrift store directly benefits HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield counties. It is a gigantic & well-run thrift store, with orderly racks and shelves, clothing sorted by size, and of course by age and gender and category also. They have creative sales and specials weekly, and more often at times. Good quality furniture, which goes fast. Reasonable prices for the good quality of merchandise they receive as donations. I saw all sorts of great Valentine ideas there today, and they even have a greeting card rack with very affordable new greeting cards. I used to just love, love this thrift store but lately the prices have gone through the roof! I was disappointed to see that this store has fallen in line with all the other thrift shops in Boulder. Prices too high, and totally over saturated with new items. Seems like they have marked the whole store up just to get a good price on %50 off day. They have all volunteers to work there and the prices are higher than walmart! Why would anyone pay that if they can get the same or nicer BRAND NEW? My daughter has an internship in the Denver area this summer and is living in a student apartment on the UC Boulder campus. The apartment was furnished except for the kitchen. I believe in the hospice mission and how they serve those at the end of life so I knew I was going to go to TRU. We found everything we needed and more! Great thrift store! Good selection of furniture, clothing, knickknacks, and jewelry. The pricing can be a little iffy - some items are cheap, others are overpriced. If you go on half-price sale day, you'll get some real bargains. In my many experiences shopping here, the staff has always been friendly and accommodating. Be sure to ask about their frequent shopper card, where you get a punch for every $10 you spend and after 10 punches you get $10 off. And they allow dogs! My Jack Russell loves to shop here - lots of new smells and other dogs to meet. read more

I love the Hospice Thrift Store! I have been shopping and volunteering there since they opened. The store is a virtual kaleidoscope of ever changing fabulously fun and useful items. The volunteers are wonderful and Lynn always gives me such a warm welcome. I have noticed recently that the prices on a few items do seem slightly higher than they have been in the past but then I turn around and find an absolute treasure that I feel should have been priced even higher. That's the beauty of shopping there!!!! There are numerous sale opportunities, many times 1/2 price, throughout each week and a special 20% off day for seniors 55 and older on Wednesdays!!!! I wonder if the slightly higher priced items give the regular customers more of an opportunity to shop before other resale buyers clear the store out!!! Honestly I really like the thrift store and the people who work here. Yesterday however was a little disturbing. I saw a woman who I know to have a lot of capital, businesses, etc. She KMan estimates I had something they went in the back found her something beautiful and marked it down to nothing because she comes in sometimes. I happen to of been there 20 minutes earlier looking for the same item and she got it. Not only that it was very new they marked it down to $20 for her. The ones that I saw that were junkie and use today we're starting at $22. Why would you do that there's some of us who are struggling, who have lost our husbands to hospice and to have children. I regularly donate items to the Hospice Share & Care Thrift Shop not only because I want to support the wonderful services hospice provides but also because the workers are always so nice and friendly. It is a very well run thrift store. The hours for drop-off are good, too. I also noticed last time I was there that they have a truck for pick-ups so I will definitely call them when I have larger items to donate.
