Update: People of color just beware. The store's response to my review just says that they don't know that they don't understand this topic. Thus, they can't comprehend the nuanced experience of a person of color in their store environment. Then again, most of their customers are white/white-passing so to understand this topic is not at all a necessity for them at the end of the day. Diversity and inclusion has everything to do with the shopping experience of buying clothes and shopping in a store. I'm sure most people will have a fine experience shopping here, but just know that they don't value understanding the nuances of diversity and inclusion(and integrate it into interactions with customers and consignors). Covert = basically acting on subconscious beliefs. In my original review, I am saying that I believe they are covertly discriminating, not consciously. "Having a person of color on your team does not automatically equate to inclusivity because diversity (having a range of backgrounds) is not the same as inclusion (making everyone feel valued, respected, and able to fully participate regardless of their background)" - Google search result ___ I am writing this to inform people of covert discrimination, so others will have a better idea of this store's values. They lost a bag I had consigned with them, then kicked me out with all my active consigned items. They gave me no opportunity to have a back and forth conversation with them about their decision and dumped it all on me at once and basically told me to go. I believe this has to do with their "lack of resources" to address this issue with more awareness. What a business chooses to do with their resources is their own M.O. But from my perspective, it was easier for them to just put it all on me and use their vague excuses about me having "too many needs that they can't accommodate" than to figure out ways to actually investigate the theft issue. I had asked why they made this decision and they said they aren't comfortable with the missing bag incident, and that they all had a meeting and agreed that I should be no longer welcomed back. Theft happens, I get it, but why am I punished for it if they didn't believe I had something to do with my own bag going missing/faking something with them. Why else would they be "uncomfortable" with this missing bag issue? They will never directly admit it but their decisions and actions are speaking LOUD AND CLEAR. I was in shock for many days following my interaction with the store. I have combed through my past interactions with them throughout the 3-ish years I have been a regular consignor and shopper with them trying to look for clues as to when exactly I have asked for too much, or something of that sort. I believe this is implicit bias playing a role that a person of color isn't trustworthy, especially in a super white city such as Boulder. I have definitely seen some SOLID cultural appropriation from what some of the other shoppers wear in the store, which also tells me the store also isn't really aware of social issues. In a way, why should they? Their customers are pretty much all white and Boulder is very white. The social issues are not in their face enough for them to do something about, and they will continue business just fine catering to their white customers. I have a really hard time believing they would have come to the same decision for a white customer in my situation. This feels exactly like discrimination to me (because race and implicit bias are always factors when dealing with people). read more

I am a long time lover of vintage fashion and consignment stores. This location had a great selection of clothing, but I was really put off and felt racially profiled due to constantly being reminded of bag policies and theft in the store while browsing through clothing by an employee. They didnt badger any of the white/lighter skinned people in the store plus that specific employee followed me around a lot. :/ I didnt leave with anything due to feeling degraded/dehumanized by that employee. read more

So I went here for the first time the other day, trying to sell of an old formal dress of mine. Unfortunately they didn't buy it (which was understandable since it's more of a summer dress), but the staff was still very nice throughout the whole experience, and even recommended another place that might be interested in buying in. I browsed the store while they looked at my clothes and was really impressed with the quality of clothes they had. They have some great clothes in here, but the staff (at least some of the staff) have a huge attitude problem. Last time I went in, I stood at the desk at the back waiting to ask a question. There was a 20-something girl behind the desk doing nothing, and she refused to even acknowledge my existence. Another employee was also there and refused to make eye contact. Finally, someone came out the back and asked very snootily if I needed anything. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and got the very clear message that I wasn't young or hip enough to be worth anyone's time in the store. I will shop elsewhere in the future. read more

This store was suggested to me and upon checking it out I was FLOORED by the cost of everything! In my time in the store I didn't find a single thing under $50. I understand that they are most likely receiving high end products, but if you are a broke college student like myself this is not the place for you. This place defeats the purpose of thrifting as it is meant to be a way to procure cheap and second hand clothing. This, however, is nothing short of a high-end boutique masquerading as a thrift store. Unless you're rich in this economy, I don't recommend this place. read more

Hilariously priced things. $25 for BRAND NEW salomon goretex trail runners?!? And you go off of eBay pricing which are going for between $80 and $130?!?! Someone who works there got a steal of a deal on some brand new $140 shoes, and in the end we got $12.50 for them (brand new with box!!!!!!!).. Essentially donating these brand new shoes to this place.. Never again will I even fathom visiting this establishment. If you're an ignorant boulder housewife hit this place up, if you want to sell your stuff and actually try and recoup anything, sell it yourself on eBay.. I decided to check out Common Threads yesterday after reading seemingly everywhere about the secret cache of stylish clothes tucked away behind Kinko's. True to its reputation, nearly all of the clothes were something I would wear, unlike every other thrift/consignment store in town where you have to rifle through a whole lot of 'what-were-these-people-thinking??' before you get to the good stuff. I actually enjoyed being in there, too - it was sunny and artistically set up, with spiraling clothes racks set randomly around the room and square racks in the corners to circle around. Maybe it's confusing if you're a methodical person who likes to march up and down aisles to make sure and cover the entire ground (shhh, don't tell but I am one of these people) but I think it's worth it. Unfortunately, nothing that I tried on fit me, so I didn't actually buy anything. Damn me and my long legs, weird butt, and football shoulders! But I will be back, waiting for that elusive time when someone who is 6'1" and just as oddly shaped as me decides to consign all their clothes. read more

This is a great place to consign and shop if you are into designer clothing. I have bought tons of Free People, James Perse, J Brand, etc here and it is always great in style, price, and selection. The store is very well laid out and it is pretty easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. There are great deals to be had on their clearance racks and if you shop often enough you also earn rewards. If you consign with them you also get 10% off purchases and can use your store credit to pay for your awesome finds. I love this store and the one in Denver to spruce up my wardrobe. read more

Usually really like this place, but I had to comment because I walked in the other day and saw ANIMAL FUR for sale. What year is this again?? Even Armani has recently announced the end of using real animal fur in their product lines, due to the cruelty behind the process. It's not fashionable, and it's not acceptable! I have found it! The perfect consignment store. I've been on a mission to see if such a thing exists in Boulder. If it wasn't for the two reviews already posted, I would have never known about it, so thank you Yelpers! It is a mystery to me how Common Threads has so many amazing items when the place is hidden on a side street. But they must have a very loyal group of wealthy consigners who bring their unwanted, barely-warn items here! Yay! I am going to write a long review because I think Common Threads deserves it. LOCATION: The shop looks tiny, and it's on a street where you don't expect to find such a gem. But, I actually like this location. Because it's not on Pearl or another busy part of town, there is no problem finding parking. There's a lot in front and a lot of angle parking on the street. OFFICIAL GREETER: I walk in and a happy little dog greets me-- always a good sign! The staff didn't greet me, but oh well, a dog is more fun anyway. SELECTION: I was expecting to not be able to afford anything here because I had heard that they carried designer items. I was wrong. There is an eclectic mix of brands such as: Coach, Anthropologie, Patagonia, JCrew,Marc Jacobs, and many many others. I was shocked at how many of the clothes I would wear. In fact, I literally saw 5 things that I had seen relatively recently in retail stores and had passed up because of the prices. Common Threads makes me feel like I have raided my own ideal closet because the things they have are my style: classic, feminine, with a little bit of colorful twist. The clothes are in good condition: no pilling, tears, stains, etc. Shoe selection is quite good, handbags are cute. FITTING ROOMS: THe dressing rooms are fashioned with white curtains and inside each is a wood chair with a pretty pillow. Details like this are what make a great shopping experience. PRICE: Common Threads is more expensive that every other consignment store I have encountered in Boulder. However, I think the prices are still reasonable given the quality of the items. For example: a silk Marc Jacobs dress for $50. A JCrew puffer vest for $30, looks brand new. EXTRAS: I peeked in the back when I was there, where there is a workshop for classes. The website says that they have various classes, including 3 sessions of introductory knitting for $50. ALso, the shop sells some crafts by local artists such as handmade belts. CONSIGNERS: I have never consigned anything here but I think it would be lucrative considering that the selling prices are a bit more than other consignment shops. This place is a must for Boulder ladies, and it's my new favorite store! read more

my new favorite store in boulder. This is a consignment store that finally gets it right. I wanted to like Rags, but they were too picky with what they purchase and the prices were astronomical. Common Threads has a wide range of brands, styles and prices. Seriously, there is something for every type of style, which is what you want in a consignment store. The layout of the store is very lovely, with a rustic vibe to their display tables and dressing rooms. The staff was very nice, although there seemed to be a lot of employees working despite the store being quite small. I love this place when I need to look for a cute dress or a top for an important business meeting. Great boutique albeit a bit pricey. Lots of gently worn to brand new clothing, bags, shoes and jewelry. Most items are organized by color but not jeans and shoes. They have more couture and art clothing in one place than any other in town. I'm giving it up to Common Threads ...one of their young employees spotted a stain on something I was buying and was completely transparent about it. I was offered a discount on the very pretty embroidered dress for a flaw she caught! This kind of honesty is (sadly) a rarity these days...but this young woman renewed my faith. Just discovered this cute consignment store, as we were next door picking up a camper, so decided to check out while hubby completed paperwork. Wasn't looking for anything in particular, but found a really cute Billabong jacket within 2 minutes. Would've loved to shop longer, but alas, no time. Will def return for more shopping. The staff wasn't very friendly. I didn't ask for assistance so don't know how helpful she would've been. Store is laid out nicely- not all messy so you have to search but organized by activity, designer, etc. great assortment of shoes too. Right inside the door was some jewelry. So very nice assortment. Prices were decent for type of item. The store is kinda hidden as the building is set back from surrounding buildings, but do check it out. This is a nice store if you have lots of the green stuff. It was almost a tease as I walked through the shop admiring all the artsy dresses, flowy blouses and cute skirts but ALAS 'so sorry for you' could not afford them. Hmphhh. They have a lot of high end brands-Free People, Ralph Lauren etc and I could see myself picking up a nice dress for a special occasion....the clothes themselves were super stylish and very fresh(a classy-bohmenian-urban blend). 3 and 1/2 stars huh? Maybe there are Boulder fashionistas who are willing to lay down more bucks for their USED clothes than I am. I found the prices on the high side. $29 for a basic T with a design on it? But at the same time there didn't seem to be a strict order on pricing. Honestly it seemed to be all over the place. some prices did seem to be bargains. The Doggie greeter gets points. Doggie greeters get points no matter where or what. While I was browsing, I overheard the employees pricing items. They hadn't heard of NY & Co., and I came across a pedestrian brand shirt that was priced more than avg. retail new. And it wasn't new. So here's a hint: go to the Rags website, and print out the list of the clothing brands they accept and reject, and just copy them. No harm no foul and it will save you some steps. The arrangement is a bit haphazard, I wandered the store 2 x to make sure I didn't miss anything. Nice selection of shoes, arranged by size. Nice selection of designer (Coach) bags on sale. Eclectic style choices, I like that. I'd sum it up saying "Hit or miss" for this place. read more

Gem. I try to exclusively buy used clothing because it is more sustainable and [usually] cheaper. Here the cheap factor doesn't come into play as much, but it is a fabulous place to find great quality and high-end used clothes. The ladies that work here are super nice and the ambiance is very cozy and homey while still feeling like a clean, swanky, boutique. I consigned 10 or 12 items last winter. I asked to pick up all items not sold as I wanted to give unsold items to my friend. I had a very high end purse that was neither sold or returned. I asked about it and they said to look around the store to see if I could find it, which I did with no success. They seemed very unconcerned and said that was not their problem. When I got home with the other unsold items I discovered sweat pants that were not mine. Clearly they are not careful with the consigners items. read more

Sold me a counterfeit designer dress - for a lot of money - that was made of cheap fabric and was literally coming apart at the seams. I complained and was twice diva-ishly and sternly dismissed as wrong. I had to call the designer's New York office to make a case strong enough for them to admit I could even possibly have a point. I did get my money back, but was told that they just "trust" people and that I shouldn't have left an "intense" message. This is just another lame Boulder business that cares more about woo woo good karma than actually doing a good job. read more

It's unfortunate that Common Threads recently decided to add fur to its shop. It's terrible to walk into the store now and immediately be confronted with death. These are animals who suffered beyond imagination just to become handbags and coats. Fur is cruel, old or new, used or not. Common Threads is wonderful. Running a successful consignment store featuring higher end merchandise is not easy to do, but Libby has figured out the right formula. Some of the best *forever* pieces in my wardrobe came from here: leopard print Jimmy Choos, gold Manolo Blahnik lace up sandals, a casual Gucci shopper tote, an incredible brown leather woven Fendi bag, and a Lanvin dress that retailed for close to $2000 that I got for under $500. If you're not looking for high end items, the shop is filled with J.Crew, Madewell, pieces from Anthropologie, Lululemon and the like. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the vibe is relaxed and cool. If you're shopping on a budget or in the market for a real knockout piece, you can't do any better. read more

Yes, I went to Common Threads for the first time to consign. I was extremely disappointed in there enthusiasm to review my items. She simply seemed to lazy to look at items even though I was there, first thing in morning. Small store which I believe will never expand due to poor performance of employees and lack of knowledge of their products they choose to consign. Therefore, awful waste of my time. There are much better consignment stores in Boulder! I would not even give them a star. read more

Very cute little shop in Boulder that offers some great high end designer pieces. Well merchandised. Customer service is lukewarm.. I would not recommend actually consigning there. I had a beautiful NEW WITH TAGS Cashmere piece I brought in with some other items that they accepted for consignment. Apparently it was 'stained or damaged' and they 'donated' it without warning or a courtesy call( which I would hope to expect from a high end consignment shop!Though I was advised this was their policy when I voiced a concern, I found it ironic that they were selling a VERY water damaged Gray Coach Handbag for under $30 labeled in 'as is' condition. You may find something lovely for yourself, (I have on a couple of occasions) but COSIGNER BEWARE!! read more

I needed some clothes for work but didn't want to spend too much $$$ so I came to CT. I actually went to their Boulder location first but didn't find anything. It was less organized than the Denver one and the people there didn't really seem to be friendly. Anyway, the Denver location is great. I was greeted by the staff immediately. I like that fact that they were not pushy but courteous. There were so many racks of clothes, bags and shoes. I probably would spend 2 hours if I want to be thorough. A staff asked if she could hang my clothes in the fitting room (and she did that a couple of times). I appreciate her gesture because after a while the clothes can get heavy on my arm. In the end, I purchased a dress and a cardigan. I noticed a small part of the seam on the dress was coming off and asked if they could fix it. They told me no but they would take $8 off so I could get it fixed at tailor. They even recommended a tailor for me. Now that's service! I left the store happily because not only I saved tons of money I was also treated well by the staff. I definitely will come back! read more

This may be my new favorite used clothing store. You can find a general higher quality of brand name items here than the likes in Boulder. I found three tops for under $15 a piece (Lucky & Banana Republic). Not bad at all. The quality reflects the prices which I greatly appreciate! I will be back! read more

Wide variety of items in different price ranges and in current styles. I think some of the high-end items were overpriced compared to similar shops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City that I've been to. I prefer to support local shops instead of resorting to Ebay but in this case it wasn't economical to do so. Disappointing but maybe acceptable for the limited availability of these items in the Boulder economy. Either way, that's why I gave them 3 stars instead of 5. read more

I stopped in here looking for a great pair of cowboy boots. And bingo they had a few to choose from. The shop is super cute and easy to shop. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The only negative had to be it was a pretty warm day and the store was roasting, it made it a little uncomfortable to shop and I certainly didn't want to try things on when I was sweating. It was totally a downer. But the items were a fair price and the store was very well put together overall a good experience.
