Nicelys is the place to stop after coming out of the woods! We tried other places. Some are very pricey with mediocre food. Others are just plain wtf?! Here good service, freshly cooked food, awesome deals and most of all terrific taste and enough portions to fill up an empty backpackers growling belly! I had their special that day of half a fried chicken with perfectly cooked corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. Wait- it comes with a soup and salad too for $9.95! Score! This is an old school diner, and it's very good for what it is. I had the breakfast special with 2 eggs, hash browns, corned beef hash, and sourdough toast. The hash browns were excellent and were obviously made freshly - not the frozen stuff that you usually find at most diners. The portion sizes were very generous, and everything was very well prepared. My wife had the fried chicken, which was very crisp and tasty. The order included 4 pieces - a drumstick, thigh, breast, and back. The breast was a little on the dry side, but he dark meat pieces were excellent and juicy. You should not eat here if you want a vegan gluten free salad or anything that would be typical diner food circa 1968. If you want real traditional red blooded American food, then this is an excellent choice. read more

Rolling into town getting ready to drop the boys on a 6 day backpacking adventure in Yosemite, Nicely's was one of the few restaurants open. Very local diner (there's nothing wrong with that!) with a few tourists looking to fill up before heading on up to the park. Service was good as we were seated quickly and given drinks and just enough time to review the menu and then place our order. It appears it may only be a breakfast/lunch place (it was 10:30 on a Sunday morning and the BBQ place wasn't open yet). Cute little dive cafe in the center of town. They do offer Covid inside seating, which is good because the weather can be cold and very windy at times. The food is mediocre at best. Staff provides the least amount of customer service as possible. We arrived at the front of the Resturant where we waited for several minutes with no greeting. Finally after waiting, a lady came over to us. If she did say something, I could not hear what she said cause she was so soft spoken. I told her 4 people and she pointed to an open table in front of us. We sat down and then waited for a long time again for someone to check in with us. No one was voluntarily coming over until I started looking around and waving at other staff members. The food was nothing special and two out of the three entrées had a piece of hair on the plate. We did not bring this up to the staff as we just wanted to pay our bill and leave as quickly as possible. Getting the check and going to the front, we had to wait again, for someone to show up and run the register. During our visit we did see 1 couple leave, because of the wait and being ignored. Don't expect much from the staff. They don't go out of your way to help or ask if you need anything, during our time there we waited over 20 minutes to have our order taken and in the waiting at least 6 staff walked close to us organizing tables. We are a family of 4 and it's not as if we had a large amount of people that it was difficult to deal with. We even came at an hour that was in between (2pm to be exact) way too many staff members not doing anything just walking around chatting it up. read more

We had lunch one day and came back for breakfast before leaving town. I remember saying to my boyfriend that the chef knows what he's doing. The eggs over easy were perfectly cooked. The vegetable beef soup was the best I've had. The wait staff was friendly. It's not fancy but hit the spot in an area with few choices in April. read more

We stayed in Mammoth for 3 days to go to Yosemite and went here for breakfast everyday. The waiters are so sweet and kind, with a smile on their face everyday without fail. Breakfast is delicious, I highly recommend the breakfast burrito and omelettes. Even though there's always so many people and only 2-3 waiters the service is so fast. Charming, yummy, well priced. Temp cold in room plus fans. Food barely warm. Took small meal, put in bowl, and raised price. Ever try to cut ham in a bowl on top of food? Charge for use of credit card, but not told it was going to happen and given the cash option.I don't like paying for something before seeing a bill so I know what I am paying for. Would have caught the cc charge. Never given a receipt. Finally got one after waiting awhile, then going to the counter and having the other waitress get it for me. Never saw a business run this way. Yes, this is a good as it gets as far as places to eat in Lee Vining. Sure beats eating at an over hyped gas station. When I stepped in here, the nice cool AC air hit me, cooling me from the heat outside. Yes, I like this place already compared to the BBQ place next door. This is old school at this classic. The music is old, the bar area is classic (before martinis were flavored), and the servers have been here for decades. No surprises on the menu either, just regular food for regular prices. The burger I had was great, maybe not the best ever, but I'd say as good as any you'll get in this town. Generous with the fries is always a plus. Combat Disabled Veteran wearing visible leg braces and his REAL mobility assistance service dog (Labrador Retriever in full service dog mobility harness vest and handle) were denied entry. No dogs allowed no exceptions stated by the hostess. We said but this is a service dog. Right to refuse service. No dogs. Please consider the type of business this is when eating here. Remember that a 100% disabled combat veteran was denied entry by this businesses on Memorial Day. This is the first time we have ever been denied entry anywhere. My service dog has accompanied me everywhere I go since I got her. She is AKC certified good canine citizen and public access tested and the service dog is "prescribed" by my Veterans Administration doctor. read more

In short: Sour food, watery coffee, slow service. This was the worst meal I recall having at an eatery. Details: This is one time I absolutely should have listened to the reviews. But I was hungry and figured it would at least be edible..? I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich, after the waiter's enthusiastic, "oh that one's very good." (I posted a picture showing how great it looked...) The "toast" under the meat was a bit soggy, the meat was bland, and the gravy (I think) was sour. I ate a fair amount before I noticed the nagging sour taste. Again, I was hungry after being on my motorcycle for 6 hours at this point in the day. I stopped eating the sandwich and ate a bit more of the potatoes/gravy, and the sour taste was even more prominent. So I stopped altogether. As for the coffee, it didn't seem bad on the first cup, but when it was refilled it tasted like the grounds had been reused. I mentioned it and the waiter made a new batch, which tasted equally watery. As for the service, it was fairly slow, since the staff spent most of the time I was there chatting about weight loss behind the counter. I brought up the coffee issues and the waiter apologized and comped the coffee. I then mentioned the sour food, and the lady behind the counter asked why I had eaten it (I hadn't finished) and I explained. She basically threw up her hands with an eye roll and said to the waiter "give it to him, let him go". Wonderful professionalism on her part. I thanked them and left, then proceeded to become nauseated, and felt sick for the next hour and a half. Again, this is absolutely the worst excuse for a meal I have ever experienced at any restaurant. It's a wonder that this place is still in business. Ok first off there's not many options in this town so I didn't have the biggest expectations BUT it was terrific. Had the Reuben and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Also really good black eyed pea soup and coffee. Good prices and everyone was friendly and attentive. We love Mono Lake and Bodie Ghost Town so we'll definitely be back! If you're passing through as a tourist, they also have a great selection of postcards of surrounding attractions. read more

I think the mashed potatoes were instant, and the veggie mix was frozen. The trout was pretty good, after I seasoned it, but it was overcooked. A very old fashion diner restaurant along Highway 395. It's not a place you'd normally go. But when you're on a road trip and hungry, this is not the worst place to stop for a quick bite. The Tuna Melt was descent. My Chicken Fiesta was not a fiesta at all. On the menu it says 'Diced grilled chicken..........' but what I got was sliced boiled chicken that was tasteless. I literally picked them all out. I was thankful at least the mixed greens were fresh and I was able to eat them after mixing in some ranch and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I left a comment card even though I don't think it'd make any difference. I really think it should have some corn and kidney beans to give it some punch. If you're in this area. You don't really have a lot of choices. Nicely at least have descent food and friendly service. read more
