A very old fashion diner restaurant along Highway 395. It's not a place you'd normally go. But when you're on a road trip and hungry, this is not the worst place to stop for a quick bite. The Tuna Melt was descent. My Chicken Fiesta was not a fiesta at all. On the menu it says 'Diced grilled chicken..........' but what I got was sliced boiled chicken that was tasteless. I literally picked them all out. I was thankful at least the mixed greens were fresh and I was able to eat them after mixing in some ranch and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I left a comment card even though I don't think it'd make any difference. I really think it should have some corn and kidney beans to give it some punch. If you're in this area. You don't really have a lot of choices. Nicely at least have descent food and friendly service. read more

Gets 2 stars out of nostalgia. My crew of fisherman have been making this diner a tradition for about 40 years, but it's getting harder nd harder to justify our loyalty. Nicely's house special, the fried chicken plate, was almost inedible this spring. Most of the dry chicken, mashed (or instant) potatoes, horrible gravy and canned green beans were left on the plate when we headed out. What a cute name. We had to stop there on our way back from our weekend getaway. The restaurant has booths and tables like an old style diner. The staff was super friendly like anywhere in that area it seems, we were seated fast and waited on quickly. We ordered a chicken salad in its torta and it said you could sub the chicken for a veggie patty made out of brown rice and more cereals so I tried this same salad - vegan style. Sure it was simple but it tasted fresh and quite good. Free extra dressing on the side. They also have a bunch of desserts to choose from like pecan pie, cheesecake, cinnamon rolls and homemade bread pudding. It was tempting but I passed since I was quite full after the salad! We stayed two nights in Lee Vining to explore the area. The first night we ate at Nicely's I had the steak and shrimp. The steak wasn't good, but the shrimp was. They call it Nicely's, and I guess it is pretty nice. It serves very traditional American food in generous portions. I got a combination dinner with steak and fried shrimp, along with potato soup, bread roll, mashed potatoes, and vegetables for $21.95. Given how ridiculously expensive beef has gotten recently (especially at restaurants), it's a very reasonable price. The food is quite tasty as well. They also have alcohol at dirt-cheap prices (I think it was $2 for beer, $3.50 for wine). The wall is plastered with beautiful photos of Mono Lake, Yosemite, the Eastern Sierra, etc. read more

This place is frozen in time, right around 1967. It's so much fun, the prices are fantastic (draft beer for $2.75!), the restroom is clean, the service is great, and the food is exactly what you should expect from an old-school coffee shop. Chef salad served in a plastic clam shell, for example. And they aren't trying to be retro with corny decor - they just are! One of my favorite restaurants, not because the food is outstanding (it isn't, until you order their pie or malts - which are!) but because it's just a fun experience. read more

Originally we tried to have breakfast on our way out of Bridgeport at the Bridgeport Inn. That place was very busy and I had to flag down someone to seat us. Then we sat for 10 minutes without being acknowledged so we ended up walking out. So glad we did. Nicely's was just down the road and we had an excellent breakfast. My husband had chicken fried steak and eggs and it was the bomb! The steak was an actual steak - not that machine tenderized steak that they usually are. His eggs were cooked perfect and he got a side of pancakes. They were thin and delicious. I had the eggs benedict and I have to say they were some of the best I've had and they did not skimp on the Hollandaise which I absolutely love! The hash browns were perfect too! Service was good and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely keep coming here on our yearly trip to the Sierra's. read more

Nicely done with these chicken wings. We stopped off at Nicely's in Lee Vinning, just off highway 395 and grabbed something to eat. The wings were super crisp and must have been dipped in fresh oil, because they just might have been the best I've ever had. I had most of my meals here during my 2 days in lee vining. The staff was friendly. The food? Depends on time in my opinion. I found the breakfast quite delicious. Bacon was tasty and the eggs and potatoes were fantastic. The dinner, however, was pretty bad. Raviolis were not served hot...the steamed vegetables were way over done and somewhat slimy. Not a big fan of the mashed potatoes on the side, but they can FRY some CHICKEN. The fried half chicken special comes with a "salad" (read: lettuce pieces and carrot shavings), corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and a small mountain of chicken. The whole deal'll run you about $10---which isn't bad considering how much freakin food they pile onto your plate. Good, stout meals. Tried to ask questions but the staff doesn't speak English. I ordered the fish and chips. Fish was deep fried and looked very browned But when cut into it was still slightly frozen. Veggies were cold. Rolls were good. Got a hamburger instead. It was ok but they put some weird dressing on it but again no speaka the English to communicate what's on a burger took the the bun off. The fries were good. If I went to a non speaking English country I would expect to experience a language barrier. But not in my country. Come on people- learn the language!! read more

Good food and excellent coffee. I travel from LA to Reno quite a bit and found this gem in Lee Vining. They have excellent coffee . I had the beef dip with fries. Sandwich was good, fries were thick crinkle cut, crispy outside and tender inside. My son had the club and it looked awesome. I wish I would have got it, but I will next time as I will certainly be back. With this town lacking places to eat i expected way more and we were stranded so we had no choice. We ordered omelettes I got Denver one and asked for bacon instead of ham. That seemed to be the strangest thing for he girl taking our order. We asked for jalapeños or something spicy to add to the omelette they had no options. The omelettes were so dry you would think they were left out for hours. They had no flavor and definitely needed seasoning at least salt. Unfortunately our favorite part of the meal was the toast and jam. My nieces loved their pancakes and waffles. Definitely not worth the almost $100 we spent. If I were only rating the food, Nicely's would receive 4 stars, but Nicely's is about much more than food. Are some of your fondest childhood memories of family road trips that involve lots of roadside diners? Sitting around a formica table in a semi-circular booth? Dad drinking coffee to stay awake while everyone else gorges on deep-fried goodness? Well, my memories aren't exactly like that, mainly just of me and my dad eating at many of these sort of diners during our bi-weekly visitations. But when you walk into this place, the atmosphere is potent enough to drag out those road trip memories even if you don't have them. This place is retro without being kitsch, comfortable without being sloppy, and delicious without being gourmet. It is just a genuine old diner that never got remodeled and never found a reason to change. I have never ordered the fried chicken, but every time I see them bring it out, it looks fantastic and I am always sorry I didn't get it. I love their tasty, crinkle-cut fries and their nice selection of pies. This is definitely the best place to stop for a meal between Reno and Bishop. read more

So there are six in my party we sit down the waitress ask what would you like to drink I said Dr Pepper and the others said water so she brings a picture of water and cups are dirty and the picture of water has Floaties in it.why did we not run then it's our fault so we proceed to order food three of us order the fried chicken plates.the fried chicken was very overly cooked had absolutely no flavor they didn't even breaded it it look like chicken that they just threw in the fryer without flour or seasoning and that's what it tasted like. The mashed potatoes are instant One of us ordered chicken wings the same result as the fried chicken. and we order two hamburgers Plates the hamburgers are OK except for the rotted vegetables. I mean i never expected much assuming this small town outside of Tioga pass entrance and may not have that much service or quality and taste.
