Cute little ice cream spot! They have lots of different flavors, and you can even swirl multiple flavors together which is fun what makes this place unique. We came with a group of 8, and everyone ordered something different. Everyone really enjoyed their ice cream, so that's definitely a plus :) One thing to be aware of the parking lot right in front has a big dip. If you have a lower vehicle or one with side steps, you may want to park on the side instead. Our friend's truck scraped the side rails pulling in :/ The only downside was the service. My order was made incorrectly, and instead of fixing it, the employee insisted it was correct .. even though it wasn't Since it was only a kids (tot) size (about $4), I didn't want to make a big deal out of it and just ate what I was given. It's a walk up window to order and receive your food. Only downside is that it's cash only and there is no ATM onsite. Only complaint is that it's pricey for basic drive in food. Burger, mozzarella sticks, and a shake cost me $30. It was good though. The double cheese burger was hot, fresh, decent amount of meat, all the toppings. Mozzarella sticks were also hot and fresh, the shake had good flavor and was a decent size. Ah, Mono Cone! I can always expect a great burger anytime I am passing through Lee Vining hungry during a long drive. This time, instead of my usual Ortega chili burger and fries, I wanted a double cheeseburger (meat!). There was a bit of a line, but that's okay. Since there were several people in front of me, after I put my order in, I took a short walk down a shirt block over to the little park nearby where the upside down house and lots of historical mining equipment is on display. I took a few photos, then walked back to Mo I Cone, got my burger, then found a picnic table on the back lawn and devoured it. So good! We stop here mostly when coming back from SoCal to Reno and we want a quick snack. They have friendly service and don't skimp on the soft-serve ice cream. Cute ice cream shop. Stopped on our way back to the Bay Area after visiting Mammoth Lake. We were surprised by the variety of offerings they have, from soda floats, to chocolate dipped soft serve, fun swirls (flavor blasts) shakes etc. Has a nice back yard sitting area also some Indoor seating. Since I've been traveling all around NorCal this year, I've noticed that lots of little mountain towns have mom and pop frosty shops. They're usually incredibly popular, and not very good. I can't explain why, but, I want to try them all, so-- I recently stopped by Mono Cone, and ordered a small vanilla cone dipped in chocolate. I used to work for the Golden Arches during their dipped cone era, so I know a thing or two about dipped cones. They are a lot trickier to make than they look. It takes someone with great wrist proprioception to get it just right. Much to my delight, my cone came out looking esthetically perfect. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't quite match. The ice cream was fine-- just your standard vanilla soft serve, nothing special-- but the chocolate dip tasted a few days old. Not stale, but not great. In order for the dip to stay fresh, the restaurant needs to sell enough to go through a whole can a day, which is probably why so many places choose not to invest in this process. On the other hand, if I didn't know so much about dipped cones, maybe I would have been happy just to be able to find one. After I ordered, I noticed that they also have flavor fusion cones. That's probably not the right name for it, but they are cones with swirls of other flavors in them. I've seen these before, but have never gotten around to trying them. If I had read the menu more thoroughly before ordering, that's what I would have ordered. (I might have to come back for a swirled cone.) There was plenty of parking, and the wait was not too bad. read more

Hands down one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The food came out undercooked--burgers raw in the middle--and when I questioned the bill, the server tried to overcharge me and got an attitude about it. Management? A joke. Our family loves going to Mono Cone. Great food and lots of selections of soft ice cream, milk shakes etc. We either eat at the picnic tables behind Mono Cone or go down the street on left side of Mono Cone. They have picnic tables and a playground. They also have a historical schoolhouse and an upside down house. I'm not sure of the hours or days they are open.
