Not much around this town, but this Basin Cafe is great! This is a pretty cute place. They have a well decorated yard with plenty of spacious seating around the area. They also have plenty of seats indoor as well. Their menu is extensive, mainly serving burgers, sandwiches, salads, or soup with some pastries available at the counter or fridge. My partner ended up getting their Mono Burger while I got their Salad and Soup (Soup of the Day). We chose to do outdoor seating and there were quite a few birds flittering around. Our order came relatively quickly. Soup of the day today was sweet potato soup and it is just like it's name - a creamy sweet potato soup and it was yum. No frills or anything added which is perfectly great. As for the salad, it was just a standard house salad with some lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and such. I opted for the honey balsamic dressing and it's a nice, fresh choice after backpacking. My partner's burger was massive. It came with 1/2 lb beef - it was a massive meat patty! But he said it was delicious and well earned. We also got a salted caramel brownie which was decadent! We were staying at Lake View Lodge (before Yosemite camping) and so this restaurant was attached to our lodging. Nice grassy area, tables and flowers if one wanted to eat outside. But it was evening and chilly so we ate inside. Of our family of 5 everyone enjoyed their plate. Basin burger, BLT, kids Mac and cheese, large dinner salads - veggie and the southwest salad were all good. Liked the giant onion rings that came with the basin burger. Every plate coming out to others, like the chicken fried steak looked good and large portions. Friendly service as well - everyone was working hard and serving a full place of folks. Mono Basin Cafe was such a pleasant surprise during our stop near Mono Lake. The café sits on top of a little hill right near the lodge area, and it has a really cozy, relaxed atmosphere that immediately makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. We went there both for dinner and breakfast, and one thing became very clear very quickly: the portions here are absolutely gigantic. We learned fast that sharing was the smartest strategy unless we planned to spend the rest of the day recovering from a food coma. The breakfast burrito deserves its own monument. No exaggeration, that thing could probably feed four people comfortably, and somehow it was also excellent. Huge and delicious is a dangerous combination. The night before, we had enchiladas that were also very good and satisfying after a long day of driving and exploring. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the whole place had an easygoing mountain-town charm. They also serve wine and beer, which made dinner even more enjoyable. One of the best parts of the café is the outdoor garden seating area. It is really lovely, peaceful, and has partial views toward Mono Lake, which makes the experience feel even more special. Overall, this place felt warm, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming. Great food, enormous portions, beautiful outdoor seating, and exactly the kind of spot you hope to find on a road trip. read more

I would highly recommend this restaurant for diners who seek exorbitantly priced tasteless beef and elk w/ bacon hamburgers with absolutely zero seasoning. The Elk burger came with bacon, and so not sure if the oily lamby taste was due to combining two opposite meats. Hate to leave a poor review for a place that does have decent food and a nice country feel to it that matches the location nicely. The issue is simply price. I get it they are attracting tourist traffic in and out of Yosemite, and are charging a premium based on that. The tri-tip sandwich was only slightly warm and the fries were cold. Since we had already waited so long and were tired of the gossip we quickly ate and left. I ordered the half ribs plate. The portions are huge but my husband and I finished all our food pretty quickly as we enjoyed both. The elk burger had an interesting taste since it was elk and not beef. It was slightly gamey but less gamey than lamb. Swing by this restaurant while visiting Mammoth Lake; it's only a couple of minutes away from the visitor center. The restaurant has a big garden where you can enjoy your food under the shade. I ordered a burger and fish tacos. When the burger arrived, it was missing the beef patties. Luckily, this wasn't a to-go order, or I would have paid $20 for just a burger bun.
