Crispy spicy fish
Anna L.

Pleasantly surprised to find good Chinese food in Astoria. The service was super friendly. The staff kept offering us delicious plum juice. The crispy spicy fish and fish in chili oil was delicious and authentic, although they were a bit too spicy. The crispy fish can be ordered less spicy or with no spice. They come with rice. Will definitely be back!

First off welcome to Astoria! Ever spent $100 on Chinese food? We got so much stuff it's insane. It fed 5 and I took a doggie bag to go. Everything was so good ... even the fries. We ordered: Pork dumplings $9.99 Cheeseburger egg rolls $6.99 (2) French fries $6.99 General Tso (not spicy) $14.99 Lo mein $10.99 Cantonese pineapple chicken all white meat $15.99 Golden egg fried rice $12.99 Beef brocolli $17.99 Only thing we think needs work on is the cheeseburger egg roll ... we think the cheese should be yellow and it's way too salty. Other than that the food was delicious and the service was top tier. When we picked up, they gave us magnets, pins and stickers for my baby We will be back!

This Nice Day location has authentic Sichuan menu items that were previously popular at Malala which was the previous restaurant before they rebranded to a Nice Day. The fried fish and layered tofu dishes were some of the items from the old menu and we really enjoyed them! Portions are also very generous. We had leftovers for another meal the next day. This location has more seating than the others, so we'll def want to return to try the other more authentic dishes.

Stopped by for lunch and tried a mix of their appetizers and a couple of mains. Beef and Broccoli ($17.95): Comes with your choice of umami, savory, or garlic sauce--we opted for the savory sauce. This was actually our favorite dish of the meal. The beef was tender, broccoli had a nice crunch and the thick sweet sauce was perfect. Simple, but really well done. Pork Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) ($9.99/ 5 pcs). These were on the smaller side and had nice thin wrapping. The broth was clean and light. I kind of wished it was more flavorful but with the addition of crispy chili oil it was delicious. Scallion Pancake ($7.99): Crispy, nicely fried and not at all greasy. Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings (8 pcs, $9.95): these were more like one-bite dumplings. Super juicy with a great crispy bottom--we finished these fast. Sautéed String Beans ($14.95): Gluten-free and vegan. Tender, slightly crispy, and nicely garlicky. We really enjoyed this dish. Overall, a pretty solid spot. I really appreciated that the menu clearly labeled the dishes that were gluten free, vegan, spicy and even the ones that were owner recommended. I would say, they slightly bit more expensive than the local Chinese takeout but food tastes fresh, clean, straight forward and comes out quickly. Tip: They have $12 lunch specials Mon-Fr

Newly opened just two months ago, a few blocks from Steinway and 30th Ave area. I went to grand opening. I ordered a few dishes. For appetizers: chicken dumplings and fried calamari. For entrees: beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodles, golden fried rice with pork. I also got the taro milk tea with boba added. The food was really good for the area. I liked the chicken dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and beef noodle soup. The Dan Dan noodles have a spicy kick mixed in already, spicy but not super spicy. The beef with noodles and bok choy and egg is really good. I like that it has veggies in it. For take-out, it is separated from the soup, which is very spicy and numbing. I like this spicy kick, but I only mixed into the noodles about a quarter of the soup that was packed in a quart container. Just a little of the soup was enough to feel the numbing sensations. Quite tasty. I had ordered mostly from the authentic menu. They do have other items such as malala, beef and broccoli and general tso chicken. They are having a special for a few days coming up for 2 of the dishes. They also have a lunch special menu that ends at 3:30pm daily. One of the items is chicken and broccoli and you get to choose a soup (hot and sour or egg drop) or soda. I'll be back to try this. It's a great addition to the area. Great space in a quiet section of the neighborhood. You order on the kiosk and then you can choose to eat-in or take-out. They have a few options of bubble teas for around $3 and $1 extra to add boba. They had a sign for buy 2 boba teas, get 1 free, but not sure how long that promo runs. Staff were very nice.

Pumpkin cake dessert is a delicious mochi texture, with red bean in the middle, but it's not too sweet. Eggplant is drenched in garlic sauce and goes very well with rice. It was also a bit loud. The service was great, with waiters very quickly bringing us our food and refilling our water. We tried the pork dumplings in chili oil, the tea smoked duck with sticky rice, fragrant fish fillet, and sauteed spring beans. The pork dumplings in chili oil were my favorite, despite the sauce not really tasting anything like chili oil. It tasted more like peking duck sauce. The entrees were good, but didn't really stand out much to me. We were expecting duck with a bowl of sticky rice on the side, but were surprised to find sticky rice layered on top of duck. It was more sticky rice than duck, and came with some sort of sweet and sour sauce. The fragrant fish fillet was pretty mild in flavor, although the fish was cooked well. The sauteed green beans were pretty standard. All the dishes that were said to have one level of spice had no spice at all. The final bill came out to be around $40 per person after tip and tax, which I found expensive for what we got.

I was browsing for places with scallion pancakes and I came across this restaurant. I saw they had a scallion pancake beef rook which I'd never seen before. It was fried and crispy on the inside with tender beef on the inside, that was slightly savory slightly sweet. I had the roll on its own, which made for a light meal, but it can also be enjoyed as a large snack. It was a little greasy, which can be expected, but not sure if I'd get it again. I did think it was innovative though. The most impressive thing about the restaurant was actually the space. I came to pick up my food and was surprised to see this beautiful place. The outside is unassuming and nothing special but inside has the aesthetic of an old Shanghai restaurant. It's ornate and slightly quirky. It's also really big, bigger than I expected. Even the bathrooms had traditional Chinese flare with the sliding doors. Definitely worth checking out,

It's also nicely decorated, which makes you feel like you're in China. It's definitely for a younger crowd with how loud this place gets. We had a huge party, so we ordered an array of dishes to share family style. Some of the most memorable dishes were the Mapo Tofu ($13.99), Hutaoli Roast Chicken ($43 for whole), Spicy Pot Potato ($19), Roasted Green Beans ($22), etc. All of the food is good, but definitely pricey. While the food also came out quickly, our drinks came out towards the end of our meal. It's a good spot for big parties as it never got too busy even on a Saturday night. They also have private rooms. The live music was fun, but also made it hard to have conversation.
