When I saw GMI games, formerly housed further down the road was closing, I was bummed. Then, one day I walked into their old game room and learned from a couple guys that Nexus was establishing itself in a new space and the old GMI stock was purchased to get started.
Eventually, I found their new home, which is better in my opinion near the pizza place and Stater Bros. Ample parking, including in the back, which I'll use in the future.
My first visit was a scouting run, but I was delighted to see the Monolith paints not only replenished, but a wider selection, too. Miniatures for Warhammer and similar games look best fully painted, and some people won't play a game until everything is painted. Famous brands of acrylic paint includes Citadel, the company that owns Warhammer, Vallejo (not currently available here), Army Painter, and the US company aforementioned, Monolith. Other supplies for this hobby are readily available, such as spray primers in many base colors, and basing materials to complete the look and a touch of realism.
Games: This is not a dedicated board game store,, some are available, although Amazon isn't the price undercutter they once were, the owner(s) decided to focus on the tabletop support for Warhammer et al. and especially Magic the Gathering (MTG) and a stock of cards are available for buying individually. Also important for MTG and many board games that feature cards are protective sleeves. These are available in glossy or matte finishes, from clear to many colors (the backside only). Famous brands are available, including Dragon Shields.
Backroom: All good game stores have an area to play those games be it MTG tournaments (very common), Warhammer tables with the space to maneuver units through painted 3D buildings and terrain, or whatever game you bring to play. There's a small library available to use on premises, but I brought a few of my own to play with. There's good lighting and tables big enough for sprawling games, such as Gloomhaven or Lord of the Rings Journeys in Middle-earth. Some munchies and drinks are available for purchase, or you can bring them in.
I'd advise people to buy something to offset their tables and time, especially if you want such a place to go. Hours vary, but they're closed Mondays. A tiered membership system is available for dividends and 24hr access to the gaming area. Details can be found on the checkout counter. read more
