Its sad to see how far this place has fallen in terms of customer service. It really feels like the one bald owner running the front doesn't really care about you or anything. Incredibly unsocial, unhelpful and gives off a "are you an idiot?" attitude whenever you ask a legitimate question. I've been here a few times since he became owner, giving benefit of the doubt that maybe he just had a bad day or whatever. No. He's the same asshole each and every time I've seen him. The store is pretty well stocked but offers limited discounts where there are other stores within a 30 min radius that offer 10% to 15% off GW products. If you need something, you probably could get it, but definitely don't stay for any customer support. You won't get any and will be treated as a bother or waste of time. Take your money to Top Deck Keep in Riverside or Critical Hit Games in Corona or even Gameology in Upland. You could order what they don't have and have a way more pleasant experience. I called because I was interested in buying a card online from them and wanted to know details about it before buying. Look, I know how card conditioning works. I've worked at an LGS and know what is acceptable for each category, but when you buy a card that's plentiful in the market in NM condition, you just want to know why it's been listed at LP. If your LP happens to be a white corner, that's my version of an MP, so I want to know. Per my phone call with Frank however, apparently it's as simple as an LP card has not been played. I doubt that every card ever pulled fresh from a pack has been perfect and I'm sure Frank knows. God forbid a potential customer ask a little about a piece of cardboard that they want to pay 20 dollars for. I usually don't care about reviews, but never in my life has an experience at an LGS made me so annoyed. Good card selection apparently, but just from my minute phone conversation with Frank, I'm never stepping anywhere near this place. read more

Sadly lacking in the IE are old-school hobby shops (not talking about that lame company Hobby Lobby) where boardgames and fantasy role playing games (RPG), Magic the Gathering (MtG) and related materials can be found, purchased, or in the case of GMI Gaming, played on premises. You won't find model trains or remote controlled cars and planes here, but if maneuvering miniatures or competing against like-minded avids (sometimes we are referred to as geeks), then your only option outside of Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga and greater LA is here in the Jurupa Valley. I found this store after a Yelp search. The closest shops with the sorts of things I like, including paints, modeling tools, games, especially but not limited to Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), I'd have to go to Pegasus Hobbies in Upland/Montclair or Game Empire in Pasadena. While those shops dwarf this one in scale and stock, the therum of no choice does not mean second best, not by a long shot! Depending on the time of day, this place is either quiet or boisterous with activity. My first visit and a few of the subsequent ones fell into the former category. What I see here is the ability to special order things not currently in stock or visit semi-regularly to buy unpainted miniatures in my case, or pick up regularly on hand expansion modules for various games including T.I.M.E. Stories and Catan. While small, the paints needed to get your figures, scenery and vehicles just right can be acquired in the back. They also have airbrush specific paints by Vallejo, a Spanish company. Interestingly, the owner herself has no real interest in gaming but I think it's awesome that she continues with a business that has seen many ebbs and tides over the years. Perhaps it is the resurgence of boardgames at cafés or maybe the centerpiece of Stranger Things's plotlines revolving around D&D, and especially the ultimate evil horrors known as the Demogorgon, or the extraplaner Mind Flayer? Yeah, the 5th edition of the Monster Manual is here to look up those references if necessary. Need instructions to play a particular game? The older vets are happy to assist, motivation is primarily to bring more people into this stress-relieving hobby. Support the local shops first. read more

I've been coming to this store since they opened ... some 8 or 9 years ago. It's been interesting to watch them grow to occupy both rooms they have and to see their wares and events expand. The owners are friendly and inviting, and have always been willing to help you with any questions you may have - up to and including demonstrations of their games. Their two rooms are split so that one is for the shop and the other for the game room - about four or five plain tables for cards or RPGs, and a couple of terrain tables for miniatures. It can get crowded, especially on event days - Friday nights are reserved for Magic: The Gathering, and if you want in on that you'd better show up early. In the shop half, they carry almost everything you'd want that's current. D&D, World of Darkness, GURPS, Magic, Warhammer, Munchkin, the whole nine yards several times over. If they don't have it, they'll order it for you and it'll usually be in within a week, probably less. They've also recently added paintball equipment, and at better prices than I've been able to find online for some of the stuff. Price Range was a touch difficult to nail down. GMI's prices aren't any worse than any other store, maybe even better than a few, but gaming of almost any nature is far from an inexpensive hobby, so I erred on the side of overestimation, as I tend to do. If you think it'll cost more than it does, it leaves you with bonus money afterwards! Their location is nice, too. Across the street from the Jurupa Spectrum, within walking distance of a Wendy's, a Chinese restaurant, a grocery store, Del Taco, another Chinese place, Burger King, Domino's Pizza... You won't go hungry (unless you blow your money on dice). read more

I rarely ever come here because I didn't enjoy the atmosphere or the customer service very much the times I have come. I really like this store. I was looking for a store I could get Dungeons & Dragons products from when I came across this store. I was pleased to find so many new 5e D&D books, miniatures, spell cards and more. I initially only planned to spend $50 in the store, but I saw so many things I wanted that I spent $300! I also met a nice group of D&D players at the store. I'm thinking about joining their weekly game. Later, I went back to the store to see what Magic The Gathering cards I could get. I was a little disappointed that this store doesn't sell single cards, but pleased to see I could get Booster Boxes of cards in Standard, as well as Theme Decks. This is a store that I will definitely return to for many of my D&D and MTG needs. read more

My fiance and I come here on a regular basis for his Warhammer 40k fix, and I'm thinking about building a 'nid army myself once I'm a bit more familiar with the game. Great selection of minis (Warhammer and otherwise), paints, TCGs, offbeat board games, Tabletop RPG books, and other geeky games. Anything they don't have in stock, they'll happily order for you. Huge selection of Vallejo Paints (a great, less expensive alternative to Citadel mini paints). The staff are super friendly and very helpful - the only caveat to this is that they're not huge on little kids coming in to their store unsupervised, but I don't see this as a minus. Parents, get involved in your kids' games! Play together! The staff not judgmental or snobbish if you're looking to learn a new game - they'll help you find what you need and answer any questions you might have. If they don't know the answer, they'll tell you where to find it. Gaming at GMI is wonderful, they've got lots of space both inside and out for any of your gaming needs, and they even have store copies of some of the more popular board games to try out. Lots of hosted tournaments and casual play. You could spend all day here, there's plenty of places to eat in the center with the store if you get hungry, and a Starbucks in the center across the street if you need a caffeine fix. GMI may be a bit out of the way, but it's got everything you could want in a gaming store once you're there - even a clean bathroom! Shock of shocks! GMI is simply the best! I tease Katherine, one of the owners, for never giving discounts to her best customers-- but the reality is, they can't afford to go any lower than they already are-- and a lot of prices of what they sell are fixed by the manufacturer. The gaming area is top notch, and they have a ton of terrain that they let you use. The tournaments are always great. Anyone who is already into what they sell (Warhammer, D&D, HerClix, Mtg) is going to go regardless. I want to write this review for everyone else out there who has maybe never been before: The store is run by Rob and Katherine, two exceptional people who work VERY hard and genuinely care for the kids that hang out in their store. They often stay open very, very late-- not because there is business, but because there are still kids hanging out that have no one to pick them up, and nowhere else to go. WalMart sure wouldn't do that. Plus, they have all kinds of games, and can order you anything you want (Katherine got us "Pit" in 3 days!). They host Magic & Warhammer tournaments amongst other events with ample room for participants. The staff here is very helpful which is an added bonus, especially when you're a newb and looking to get your feet wet. Even if you're not into "serious gaming", they have board games, various types of card games, and other table top games that appeal to a broad spectrum of playing styles. I've been going to Gmi Games for more that 10 years. Owners are a married couple, Catherine and Rob, whom I find funny to listen to when they bicker at each other. All-in-all friendly and knowledgeable staff. The gaming community is diverse, ranging from the "elitist" to the "casual" player. They have all kinds of games to participate in. Love this store. Been going for years. Started off as a tabletop player going in for books and dice. Later I expanded into warhammer 40k. The on hand selection sometimes leaves something to be desired but this is easily made up for by fast friendly special ordering. Whatever I'm looking for Catherine can get it in a week unless it hasn't been released yet in which case it comes in on the release date. I have been physically here 3 years ago and it was ok and was going to go today but I tried calling just to confirm if there are any tcg tournaments going on for the night and this lady answered the phone and rudely kept raising her voice asking " what do you want?!" "What tournament are you talking about?!" "Tell me what tournament!?!?" I mean I'm asking generally and it's not that hard to tell the schedule for the night what they are. GMI is the shop I go to when I need paint/primer/brushes for my figures because they have a great selection and their prices are fair for these items. I'm a Warmachine player and their selection for actual models isn't very good and their prices are retail which is expected. It's not the place to go to if you need a new Warcaster or some Units. Their 40k selection on the other hand is amazing. I used to play a little 40k and if I still did, GMI would probably be the reason why I'd have to change my name, get a fake passport, and move to a non extradition country to avoid my many creditors and loan sharks. I was scared of the woman who owns the shop at first (I'm assuming she owns it.) She seemed really off putting but once I started talking to her she was really nice and knowledgeable. They were out of a certain paint color and I asked her about it and she was able to let me know that she ordered it and exactly when it would come in. The man there was very nice too. I showed some interest in playing in their gaming area and he went back there and showed me some of the awesome terrain they have for their patrons to use. It's a cool place. I recommend it if you plan to play table top miniatures. read more
