There was a time when I put some weight into Yelp reviews, but just reading the 5 star reviews for this company makes me realize that either people are getting paid to write these glowing reports or the company is creating fake yelp accounts to write them, so please, if you're reading Yelp reviews looking for a solar contractor, run, don't walk away from NextEnergy. After NextEnergy screws you over, you will be livid and will try to contact them and demand a resolution but it will be completely opposite from when they were trying to get your business and with you every step of the way - now they will be nowhere to be found, you'll never get a call back or an email responded to. Then you'll think "fine, then I'll just drive to their office in Lathrop to see them in person!" Well yea, you could do that, but unless you're into climbing over barbed wire chain link fences, the only thing you're going to get from that experience is the loss of a tank of gas. We paid $33,000 in 2007 to Nextenergy to install 24 SunPower solar panels on our home...it has been an awesome system for almost 15 years until now. We need to replace the roof on the house and neither Nextenergy or SunPower are responding to my calls or email requests to see if they can come remove the panels for the roof replacement and then replace the panels. I expect to pay for the service, but they won't even respond to my emails like they state they will according to their their rote voice message! Disgusted and feel abandoned! read more

I had researched solar for about eight years prior and found some companies didn't show up, some companies were charging way too much for a system and some companies just didn't give you a definite timeline of when work would commence. There's horror stories of people signing contracts and then having to wait lengthly periods of time for work to commence. Not so with Nextenergy!! We have had our system for about two years and love it!! Farzad was so easy to work with, promptly returned phone calls and was always available to answer questions. Once the contract was signed it was about two weeks when work commenced. Nextenergy only uses the best materials, and one of these is Enphase which allows you to monitor your solar panels online. SWEET!!! We love Nextenergy so much, recently we asked them to quote us solar on another home and Farzad really worked hard to accomplish what we wanted. read more

Next Energy is a reliable company who has been around for a long time. They have real engineers with many years of experience. Randy installed a large SMA solar system for us in 2014. We have had a few warranty issues come up. The owner Randy Kaufman made sure to send a qualified engineer to our site to troubleshoot and replace the faulty equipment from the manufacturer. They installed panels in our house some years ago. Actually installed by the previous owner. After we bought it, the panels stopped working. I tried many times to get a hold of next energy to come look at them. Although I got a hold of someone, I could not get them to come out. Had to find another company who confirmed the inverter was dead. So I asked next to give me an estimate to install a new one. Again they were friendly on the phone and said they would give me an estimate but never got one. Just wait wait wait and nothing. Needless to say, they don't really want my business. read more

As part of a major remodel, NextEnergy was brought in by my architect and general contractor to install solar panels on my roof. We were told that the solar energy we generated would be sufficient that we would actually be getting energy credits from PG&E. This most assuredly has NOT happened. My utility bills are HUGE and there has been only one short period of time when we actually sent energy back to PG&E. We had them out to make sure everything was working properly. They said it was. Then we called our Sales Rep who was no longer with the company, but was operating as an independent consultant. He did an extensive analysis for us and confirmed that the equipment is working properly, but was obviously not sufficient to generate enough power to run the house and sell energy back to the utility. We made our disappointment known, but took no action but to decide to just live with it. Then we got a call from Randy, all cheery and excited wanting to know if we would refer people to them! Eh?? I don't think so. So we explained to him how disappointed in the performance of the system we were. He said we should have called -- this is the first he'd heard of it. (??? We DID call) He promised to look into it. We heard nothing for a long time. he said he had called (he hadn't.) Then he asked for our utility bills which we sent him. Nothing again. Several follow-up emails and phone calls were made -- he never got back. We're still living with it, but don't really recommend these guys. Just have to say something about Emma Brown in the office too. Going way back to when they first came on the job, their materials were delivered to the site (no one was living in the house at the time -- it was a MAJOR remodel job) and Emma called our office demanding payment. We had no idea what she was talking about. She kept saying "You signed a contract! If you don't pay immediately, we're picking everything back up." Very aggressive. Turns out she was calling the wrong office -- she should have been calling the General Contractor, who actually signed the contract on our behalf. What rankles tho is that she never had the courtesy to call back and apologize for her rude, aggressive behavior once she realized her mistake. I had several conversations with her subsequent to that event and never once did she acknowledge her error. A decidedly unpleasant person to deal with. Shop around before you hire these guys. read more

Very friendly & polite with a decent product. He seemed so sincere and knowledgeable that we entrusted our solar conversion to him, but he let us down big time. 6 weeks after they received our deposit we canceled the contract per the addendum they added making our deposit refundable under certain conditions. Then they went out and purchased a permit, claiming they had done so weeks before. The building department confirmed the permit was requested AFTER we had canceled the contract. Next Energy has promised to never refund the deposit. read more

Trees on my property were cut during installation on MY NEIGHBOR'S roof. NextEnergy refused to pay $345 for arborist work that they encouraged me to have quoted in order to mitigate damage (trees cut during beetle season had to be protected with insecticide and trimmed properly to reduce exposure).. Claimed the cuts were made by their "independent salesman" and thus "not their responsibility"--only after stringing me out for a month. My neighbor ended up just writing a check to me to keep the peace after Next Energy's Director of Sales, VP Controller, and CEO/Founder all claimed that they could not control nor would take responsibility for the actions of their "independent" salesperson. i had next energy install solar panels several years ago.the installation went smooth and everything was fine until the inverter was recalled. Next again came thru and installed a new one ( with a longer warranty) . The installation again went without a hitch and the company worked around my schedule. I later had a minor issue when a piece of copper piping that was an option next had suggested which was purely cosmetic( to cover the white conduit) came off the house ... I was wonderfully surprised when the NextEnergy person who came to visit turned out to be their CEO, Randy. Randy possessed a wealth of knowledge about the technology and the industry, and was very down to the earth. He went through the various setups options with me and never once gave me a high pressure sales pitch. The process was comfortable and enjoyable. This is my first Yelp review, but considering how wonderful the service has been over the years from NextEnergy, I thought it fitting to reserve my initial posting for them. I met Randy Kaufman, the owner of NextEnergy, about 5 years ago when I contracted him to install a solar system on my home. I opted to purchase the system outright and installed 42 SunPower panels on my roof. The entire process was completely painless -- Randy was AMAZINGLY helpful and his crew, from start to finish, was professional and courteous. From the first site visit through the final clean-up, I barely knew they were there until one day, shortly after signing the contract, I had solar up and running. NextEnergy took care of all of the paperwork, including rebates. The installation job was #1 quality. I have three inverters mounted to the side of my home in an inconspicuous location and they have worked near flawlessly throughout the years. Actually, the first winter we had the panels on the roof, I noticed very early morning frost covering everything (the roof, plants, panels, etc.), except for one panel -- it was covered with frost except for one 4"x4" cell. I called Next Energy about this and they sent out a technician that day. They informed me that one cell was "running hot" which meant it had gone bad. Instead of just replacing the single panel, Next Energy replaced all 42 panels -- just in case. And even better, they replaced them with the latest panels which were 20W more efficient! There have been no other issues throughout the years, but Randy calls about once a year to check in to make sure that I'm happy with the installation. The name for this company is an omen of what you should do,make sure you use them Next and I mean Next and I mean don't bother. They installed panels on my roof and I have had nothing but problems. They have been out to fix these panel for the same problem over and over again and when the same problem arouse out of warranty they told me I was out of luck. So after repeated calls and few letters still they have not responded and insist that I have to now pay fix the problem that has was never resolved during the warranty period. It may seem odd to give a 5-star rating to a company that I didn't end up using but it is that reason that I can give them such a high rating. You see, I had one of their salesman out to my house in Piedmont after my wife got back from one of the many "green living" parties presented during the coarse of the year. If you haven't been to one of these parties let me give you a little insight. First, you pay to go and have a bunch of people tell you how awful you are to the environment. They tell you how bad all the cleaning products you're using are for the earth but you just know they are all using the most potent chemical on their toilets to get them clean. And everyone of the shows has some kind of solar show. You know, Screw PG&E!! Go Solar! This actually sounded good but I really didn't think it would be worth the cost. Well, I had heard a salesman for NextEnergy speak at a function. His name is Doug Hamilton. I told him of my situation, which is that I don't have really high PG&E bills ( I average about $120 a month) and the fact that we probably wont be in our house for more than 7 years. Doug came over and reviewed my bills and analyzed my situation. He actually said that in my case it may not really be worth it. WOW!! A HONEST salesman!! I didn't end up using them but sure will, and have, recommended them. Doug's talking to our friends right now. It looks like a great fit. Just had solar system installed by Next Energy. Started out well and ended well but got kinda "bumpy" in the middle. No problem with install until time for building inspector's review..he got picky and required things be changed a bit. Long story short, it was two months from completed installation until system was able to be turned on ( the "fix" actually only took 1 day ) Next Energy did step-up and make things right (including reimbursing for energy savings lost ) but it took quite a bit of "discussion" and time. read more

We had a 32 panel Sun Power system installed about a month ago. Paul Atkins from Next Energy was the Sales Representative. But he is much more than that. Paul is extremely knowledgeable about the product and process. He spent hours with us designing the system for us, including calculating how many panels we would need, and exactly where we should put them. The time he spent was worth it. When the system was tested, it operated at 99% of anticipated production. Josh led the installation crew. They were friendly, considerate, and cleaned up each day.
