My visit here was the first time dining out since COVID started and it was a great first dining experience back. First of all, they are very organized and strict with their safety measures which made me feel safe. Staff all wear masks and they make everyone sanitize before entering.. tables are also a good distance apart and there are no menus as they have you look at it online. I got the unicorn French toast and my bf got the kimchi duck hash. The French toast was aesthetic and had various components to it, reminded me of a halo halo almost. It did get very sweet after a while though and felt like a dessert, so be aware of this if you're not a huge sweets person. My bf and I swapped dishes halfway which was nice for me to get that salty/savoury palette cleanse and for him vice versa. The hash was yummy and I think I enjoyed it more that we swapped because the flavours got redundant after a while despite being delicious (can't complain about that though). Service was great- attentive but not overbearing. Nice atmosphere as well.. we sat on the patio and I was worried it might be busy as we went on a Saturday for brunch but everything felt controlled and well spaced out. This review is for the brunch tower for 2. Everything on this tower was perfectly cooked, good temp and had a cute presentation. It came with eggs, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, potatoes and buttermilk pancakes with ube. I enjoyed every bite I had. Since everything was cooked so well, I would recommend this to others even with the $50-60 price range. Tower is for two people, but could feed 3 imo. We also had tap water with lemon, coffee and cocktails. Water and coffee were fine. They offer milk alternatives (I think at an added cost). The cocktails were STRONG. Idk if it was too early for me, but I just didn't care for my black pearl cocktail. It was in a small glass, and I didn't care for the flavour (personally). I think I would stick to wine, mimosa or beer next time. Service was good. Our waters were refilled when needed, we were asked how everything was and they brought us new plates when we asked (wanted new plates to enjoy the pancakes on). There is a time limit (I think 2 hours?) but we didn't feel rushed and were able to finish on time. Music was poppin and restaurant was packed. Make sure to make a reservation. Wanted to try out this spot for brunch. It gets very busy, we reserved ahead of time on their website. Parking lot is small and shared among other businesses. The look of it is rustic, modernized and brightly light with many windows lining the walls. We were promptly seated and service was great. Definitely intrigued by the brunch tower as many tables ordered it but looked like too much food. I instead ordered the Duck Confit Pancakes and my wife got the Okonomiyaki Cheeseburger. The duck had a crispy skin and went well with the fluffy pancakes. Sort of a twist on fried chicken and waffles. The maple hoisin sauce is unique, not a big fan but kinda works. First of all, Unionville is an adorable town, with quaint shops and a homey vibe. This restaurant was amazing, as it was fast, food was delicious and service was friendly. My kids had the French toast and it was incredible, the interplay of flavors was melt in your mouth delicious, the peanut butter was a nice touch! I came for dine in brunch over the weekend and had a good experience. We got the brunch tower, fried chicken french toast and the special that day, tempura shrimp toast. We enjoyed most of our dishes though we found the fried chicken french toast to lean too heavily on the sweet side. We would've prefered to have the chicken and the batter to be more salty to balance the rest of the dish. The tempura shrimp toast was the special of the day which was tasty but used a panko rather than actual tempura. The brunch tower is a good deal and it could probably feed 3 people. All the elements on it were really good and cooked well. I've also tried the Duck Confit Pancakes and Okonomiyaki Cheeseburger before on their outdoor patio. The crispy duck confit was tender with fluffy pancakes and a balanced hoisin maple glaze. The cheeseburger was loaded with a beef patty, egg, bacon, umami bonito flakes and the OG Kewpie mayo. They're not currently checking vaccine passports and it looks like they're operating at full or close to full capacity. Our server Andrew was a gem. I have been saving this on my 'favorite' (almost a year now) so I remember which restaurant to try. Finally , today is the day! Ordered shaksuka and hash kimchi (the only 2 'spicy' dish on brunch menu). Shaksuka is soooooooo good!! It is 'juicy'/saucy (because it is a tomato-base dish). It comes with sliced lamb sausage,chick pea, and poach egg on it. All of this flavour balance out one another. The tomato base/sauce is 'refreshing' and this dish has a nice spice kick to it. It comes with toast on the side (and dip it to shakshuka when eating). Hash kimchi duck confit is tots potato, kimchi, cheese curd, shredded duck confit, and 2 poached egg. It's a great combination! Kimchi is (very mild) soury and spicy. Potato, duck confit, and cheese are 'dry'. The poach egg provide the extra 'sauce'(due to runny yolk). All of the ingedients paired with 'wet' and 'refreshing' kimchi are flavourful. The only thing lacking is the kimchi itself. It was too little. Tots, duck, and cheese curd are 'dry'. So it taste 'dry' and bit flavorless toward the end (not enough sauce/juice/flavor). Better to ask for more kimchi (or extra on the side if you are worried the overall dish might get too soury/spicy). Service was attentive. We originally got seated to 'hot' table. After 10min we almost left (really really hot and no cool breeze. I was sweating). Turned out they keep an eye of 'shady' table availability which we were so happy when we got moved. We got there at 6 and didn't get our mains until 7:50. In between we got our 3 apps between 8 ppl and wine but one drink was missed. I can tell they put a lot of effort into their food and plating but I'm pregnant and I really can't be waiting that long for food. The small plates here are not really small. Bone marrow was Ok. Smoked fish pate was pretty good. Kettle chips were quite a firm foundation for the pate. Times have changed and I thought I'd update my review on NextDoor's social distancing measures and food quality during COVID. I went for their patio and is happy about their table spacing and how all staff works towards ensuring their guests are at a safe distance from each other - along with sanitary measures. They have sanitizer stations set up in close proximity and all staffs wears masks. I've seen their procedures for table clean ups, and they did a great job! One thing I'd note is that it seems their brunch menu hasn't changed much since the launch from a few years ago. It would be great if they offer new items soon! read more

Since they're on Main St. they are obviously a popular choice and honestly one of the better restaurants in the area so make sure you book a table well in advance if you want to avoid a long wait. We ordered their Avocado Toast and their Okonomiyaki Cheeseburger . The Avocado Toast was delicious! The platting looked spectacular with a sesame seed bagel as the base topped with fresh avocado, seaweed salad, ponzu, togarashi aioli, torched sashimi salmon, pickle chilies, nori, and ramen egg. The torched salmon was very smooth and was super flavourful with the sauce. All the other toppings complimented the each other making the whole meal delicious. We loved their twist to a classical avocado toast. The Okonomiyaki Cheeseburger was such a unique idea! They substituted the regular burger buns for Japanese pancakes making the presentation look impeccable. Inside the sandwich was a 7oz beef patty, Swiss cheese, iceberg lettuce, kewpie mayo, sunny side up egg, double smoked bacon, bonito flakes, nori, and Japanese BBQ sauce. We loved how they incorporated Japanese ingredients into the cheeseburger! We loved our experience at this restaurant and would definitely return to try more. Was in Markham visiting family and decided to try Nextdoor restaurant for dinner. We ordered some different dishes to try out like the duck wings, Pani Puri, asian pit master platter and a large garden salad. The duck wings were decent and had a good tangy sauce. Rating: 7.3 out of 10 The pani puri had a little too much cumin. You could smell the cumin overpowering the dish when you cut it open. Rating: 5 out of 10 The salad was a typical salad but was nice and fresh with a decent white balsamic vinaigrette. Rating 7.0 out of 10 The Asian pit master platter for me was two sided. There were things I liked and areas I think that could have been better. My first disappointment were the ribs. When you have a dish call the Asian pit master platter, the star of the dish should be the ribs, however they were tough and lack any special flavour. It almost tasted like ribs that were previously made and warmed up and served to us. The rest of the plate were just ok. The banchan, the pickled vegetables were quite tasty though. One thing to note was the Asian plate took forever to arrive. Three tables came in way after us received their full dishes at their table before we received ours. Rating 6.5 out of 10. I had a reservation at NextDoor for 7:15 pm and arrived 10 minutes early. Despite the fact that half the restaurant was empty and there were multiple tables that could fit two people, the staff informed me that I was early and made me wait until my reservation time. This put a bad taste in my mouth. The staff told me they were prepping our table, but I watched as they cleaned a four-person table that wasn't even ours. I was disappointed that they lied and never addressed it with us. The dinner service was slow and took almost an hour to prepare a beef tartare and oysters. This was shocking because the restaurant wasn't full and I didn't understand why it took so long. I could see that others at the restaurant were also experiencing the same issue. They had loads of serving staff but clearly not enough kitchen staff. The mains came out warm, making me feel like they sat there for a while. They were also extremely small and more like fine dining style than entrees. Everything on the menu sound so delicious but we settled for a poke bowl, crab on toast and pancake of the day to share. It was glorious !!! So good!! Portion size was perfect! I got everything as takeout and I was too excited to eat everything while it was hot to take individual photos but took a video :) We got the following: - Oysters - they have different types every season, but the ones we tried (this was in early April) were sweet and not fishy at all - Burrata - the milk cheese tasted so fresh and went very well with the sweet cantaloupe gazpacho. I've never tried cantaloupe with cheese before but it went very well together - Cornish hen - very tender and moist. We loved the green pea velouté it came with - added some creaminess and sweetness to the dish - Crispy pork belly - was indeed crispy on the outside and soft, tender and juicy on the inside - Jerk octopus - the most tender and flavourful octopus I've had in Toronto. Even the side of Swiss chard was cooked perfectly (I've had it be way too tough and fibrous at other restaurants). First time at this restaurant and was pretty impressed. They have an online reservation system so would definitely recommend booking beforehand as it was pretty full at brunch. I ordered the okonomiyaki cheeseburger and it's a pretty large serving with a bunch of different items but they all worked together well - would recommend getting syrup for the pancakes if you have any left at the end. The fried chicken french toast was also great and the french toast was huge. We were celebrating a birthday and they gave a free complimentary gelato. We had the biggest table in the dining room which is at the very end of the room at the windows - we noticed there was a cold draft particularly at our table and the waiter was able to adjust the temp however, then it got to be a bit too warm. Wasn't a big deal and didn't affect us from enjoying the meal but just a heads up if you happen to sit here in the winter. My friend and I have lived in Markham for many years, interrupted briefly by living abroad for a bit. We decided to get together before the holidays. The catch is that the main entrance is where the water wheel is. I parked off to the side and did a brief tour around the building. It's pretty at night. I can picture how gorgeous it is on a warm summer night on the patio. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a woman. She found my reservation and seated me in a cozy corner. Moments later, I saw my friend wave to me as he got out of the car. I pointed at him to go around to the water wheel. He nodded. Our server was highly knowledgeable and helpful. I had asked her about what draft beers were available. It was fairly dark in the corner and the beautiful candle setting didn't produce enough light for me to get through the booze menu fast. I went with a Belgian Moon. It was so good. It's even better at $5. My friend went with a Flying Monkey. He just liked the name. He loved it, too. It was smooth. Oysters are also half price on Wednesday. We like deals. He went with six Raspberry Point oysters. He didn't know how he would react. We joked that Markham-Stouffville Hospital wasn't far away. He was fine! He enjoyed them. I went with duck wings and fried brussel sprouts. My server said that I had ordered her two favourite items on the menu. Cool! The duck wings were delicious. It had five-spice salt, kewpie mayo, Japanese barbeque sauce, fried shallots, red chilies, and green onions. All those flavours were amazing. The duck meat was tender and yummy. I never thought that I would eat an entire plate of brussel sprouts and want more. They were scrumptious. Long overdue review, came in Dec 2018 for birthday dinner and I must say the food and service was impeccable. I remember ordering the deep fried Brussels sprouts with bacon which was super tasty, everything else we got was delicious. The service was great, did not have to tell the waiter to refill our water. Came for brunch in April 2019 and was amazed again by the food quality. I got crab on toast with 2 poached eggs, the portion was just perfect. Also got fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and mango and peach juice as well (tasted like mango lassi - so good!). Came here on a Friday for lunch. We didn't make reservation but they were able to accommodate us. Their brunch menu ends at 3pm and Dinner started at 3pm, so what we ordered were brunch items. We had the Okonomiyaki Burger with a Ceasar and Avocado Toast. It is your American menu items with a Japanese twist. My husband enjoyed his burger and ceasar. I ordered the avo toast because I wanted something on the lighter side and small but "oh boy" was I wrong. The toast is two slices of bagels (one of the best bagels I have had), topped with what seams to be a whole smashed avocado which was well seasoned, big heaping of seaweed salad, generous portion of seared salmon with teriyaki sauce, aioli, a poached egg and chopped Thai chili. Went to Next Door Restaurant for a birthday dinner and was a little disappointed. I saw many people's reviews and a lot of them were good reviews. However, my experience there was not as expected. Their service was great but the food was lacking. Most of the food were mediocre. Their gnocchi was super soft and soggy and the lingcod was just not good. Gem in Unionville with fantastic fusion food. Service: The waiter was very friendly and made great recommendations on what was popular. Dishes were brought out Food: We started with the short rib sliders, the buns were very soft and the short rib was fall-apart tender - highly recommended! The lamb ribs had a strong curry flavour, preferred the ones at Byblos but they were also tender and well seasoned. The porchetta was the star of the show, with a variety of textures and flavours. The creaminess of the egg yolk balanced the salinity and crispiness of the pork skin/rind, and the acidity of the sauce. The watercress provided helped balance the heavy dish, but was a little undercooked for my taste. Atmosphere: Very casual yet relaxed and elegant, all at the same time.
