They also make a lot of baked goods to take away (cookies, scones and beignets). The roasted potatoes with the brunch offerings were sooo good. One of the best I've had. You can reserve online during the week but on the weekend it's waitlist only. Just keep in mind. It's a rather small establishment maybe about eight tables. Stopped by the Bodega for lunch , it is an absolute hidden gem on Gerard west of Woodbine . Its interior is well done, homely setting, compact cozy place with a good patio. Menu has good choices for breakfast and light lunch . It's mostly packed with local residents who are regulars. We ordered mimosas and a Hot Fried Chicken Sammy as well as the Smoked Salmon Sandwich, both were delicious, prepared excellently and good portions. There are not enough stars for this place! What to order? anything and EVERYTHING!. The three is us had - falafel sandwich, breakfast -standard (you can substitute bacon for peameal or salmon) just add the peameal as a side you will not regret it. The third breakfast was morning roast scramble. The pork was a melt your mouth deliciousness. Staff are amazingly friendly, the atmosphere is casual and the place has a home feeling vibe. My fiance, mother and I came here to eat without a reservation at around 10am on a Sunday (weekend) in mid-July 2022. At the time we arrived, there was only one party on the patio and nobody inside, but it seems like every indoor table was reserved. Verdict: Yep, this place is worth trying, and then coming back for more! Don't bring too many people, though - the biggest accommodating table is likely four! (Also, given how good this place is, you probably want to actually get a reservation, unlike us) 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 8/10. The weekend brunch menu fit neatly on a wide one-pager; they have a couple of "bowl" options, 10 brunch options, two kids options, and four sides. If you're nitpicking, this isn't a TON of options, but to be fair, their restaurant is literally a tiny corner townhouse. Give them a break. 2) FRESHNESS: 9.5/10. My cappuccino was great; I forgot what my mother and fiance both ordered for drinks, but it looked good. As we were leaving, there was a line out the door waiting for our table, and every table inside and outside was taken. My advice? I got the classic breakfast because in my opinion, I'd a place can do that right, then it's a reason to visit again. Luckily for me they had non-diary milk and gluten free toast; I took my time savouring the toast because it was delicious. My cappuccino was made to perfection (bonus points for decaf coffee) and the staff was friendly, attentive, and the service was quick! My meal left me satisfied for hours. We went for brunch and got: - Savoury French Toast: Serving size was huge, albeit a bit pricey. The French toast was just a bit overly chewy. The blueberry compote was generous. The bacon was the best thing - definitely crispylicious! But the expected star of the dish, the pork belly, was more fat than lean so was a bit of a letdown for me. - Egg Benedict with Salmon: They used croissant as the base, which didn't hold the salmon and egg firmly enough. I've been meaning to come here for a while, and I'm so glad that I finally did! I walked in on a Wednesday morning without a reservation and they were able to seat me within 5 minutes. The two staff members I interacted with were lovely. I got the savory french toast with fingerlings on the side...I cannot even explain how delicious it was. I don't know how I'm going to try anything else on the menu since I loved this dish SO much. The crispy bacon and pork belly was cooked beautifully, and it wasn't overly sweet in my opinion. Probably the best french toast I've had in the city. The only thing I'll say is that I felt quite rushed at the end of my meal. I was dining alone and still sipping my coffee when the server brought the bill. I realize that many restaurants have seating limits now, but I had only been there for about an hour at that point. We had previously been there for dinner many years ago and remember we had a good meal. This time, brunch was in the menu and it was nicely curated with some favourites and some innovative dishes. My companion and I had the veggie scrambled eggs, which were done perfectly and served sandwich style on a very soft ciabatta bun. Our friend had the sweet and savoury French toast which features what looked like a blueberry compote. Both dishes were very satisfying and tasty. The culinary highlight was the fingerling potatoes. They were soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and offered a tender sweetness that only comes with well selected and prepared potatoes. It isn't hard to make potatoes taste good if you use enough oil and salt. It fills you with immense happiness when a long bookmarked place is so gooood that it can now move to Favorites list instead. We were here for Sunday brunch in a group of 4. We couldn't book reservation and instead did a walk-in. Thankfully we got the table after 15-20 min walk. We ordered 1. Tofu Scramble with Chickpea waffle, 2. Falafel Sandwich, 3. Egg Benny with Peameal, 4. Savory French Toast. I can speak to vegan dishes as I ate those. Both #1 and #2 were great...really wholesome and flavourful. They were not trying to emulate meat, instead it was a celebration of vegetarian flavours on the plate. I initially thought I must replace Tofu scramble with scrambled eggs but I would have missed the delight Tofu was. The sandwich bread could be more crunchy but it is a minor thing. The portion sizes are just right, not American large. Ended the meal with Latte and Bumbleberry Bread Pudding. Latte was rich and pudding was soft and subtle sweet. This is my new favourite brunch spot! Wow. Such a cute small place. It was a house that they converted so the kitchen is in the basement but it's super cute and even had a little shop (or bodega. Thus the name). They are a little off the main lines but worth the trip for sure. We got there a little after 930 on a Sunday so we got right in but when we left an hour later there was a long line. Rightly so. Their food is so yummy! I got the French toast with berries and Chantilly cream. Toast was tender but with just the right crispness in the edges. No syrup required. It was perfect. He got the breakfast sandwich that had two kinds of meat, the perfect bun and an egg cooked exactly as you would want it. Even his side of fingerling potatoes were delicious (may have been cooked in back fat ) Highly highly suggest. This area is less frequented by moi so this was a planned visit. The space is cozy with the kitchen in the basement of what seems like a converted house. I went on a weekday and off peak so parking wasn't an issue. The place seems to be frequented by regulars as a lot of clients were greeted by name (always a good in my book). The place was busy for a weekday. The food took its time to arrive. The french toast looked OK at first but what surprised me was that there was barely any egginess that one associates with french toast. Hmm if it wasn't for the chantilly cream this would have been just a step above fried bread! I guess my expectations have gone up for french toast as there are a lot better offerings in Toronto (one is legendary level and is even worth a detour). The vegan item was liked by the DC. My wife made reservations for today for drinks for thirty minutes and then I would join her for brunch. Seems like the staff need a refresher on service as once I got there the other two people we ready to leave and we told our server we would be ordering some food only to be told there was a reservation on the table we reserved. There was not attempt to understand, apologize for their error or try to accommodate. Instead we were rushed into paying and told to move on. It's a shame really as a reputation can be built over years only for it to be destroyed in seconds. We were going to make dinner reservations since we have been going for years but knowing reservations do not guarantee a table we will find alternative and will keep finding alternatives. read more

Bodega Henriette is a small restaurant located in the Upper Beaches neighbourhood (on Gerrard between Coxwell and Woodbine) that can seat around 30. Upon entering, the interior gives a warm welcoming vibe that has a uniqueness to it; the different wallpapers in the restaurant give the place some character and some colour. I recently came to try their brunch with a party of 4 around 12 noon on a Saturday. Although the place was busy, we waited around 15 min for a table. Upon being seated, service was friendly and attentive and we never felt rushed to leave as we were able to converse in a relaxing environment. Our party had the waffle bennies (one with smoked salmon, one with bacon, and one with arugula and tomato jam) and the peameal sandwich. The smoked salmon and bacon waffle bennies were great but the arugula and tomato jam benny lacked some flavour (as a vegetarian option for brunch). The peameal sandwich was a huge portion with stacks of peameal bacon which was filling. Took a bite of my cream cheese and home-smoked salmon lightly toasted sandwich and stopped right there. The salt, the salt. I could not continue eating the overly salted smoked salmon. What a shame. This spot surpassed all of my expectations. The interior is adorable. It's very cozy and comforting with the perfect amount of sunlight. I am currently on a disability leave from my work, and I haven't been out much in a couple of weeks. The barista made me a delicious and very cute heart latte. Now, the food...the food is on a whole other level. As I mentioned, I haven't treated myself to a brunch for about a month, so I was craving something really special and over the top. I picked the French Toast. When I say this is the best French Toast I've ever had, I mean it. I literally gasped and had to take a moment when I bit into it. They use 3 slices of baguette type bread, but don't let that deter you. Now that I've had French Toast this way, I don't know if I can ever go back to the traditional bread. It had a perfect crunch/bite/mouth feel, while still being very soft on the inside - great for soaking up maple syrup. Speaking of which, it came with an absolutely delicious above average maple syrup, a generous dollop of whipped cream and berries. Yum! 10/10. I can't stop thinking about how good this place was. This must've been the weekend of non-existent service. . . this cute little cafe eatery can be easily missed on Beach Hill, but once you enter, it is a family friendly interior that has a cute side patio on nice summery day. When we walked in around 11:30, the restaurant was full, so we sat at the bar until a table opened up . . . let's just say that it was completely forgotten and when a woman showed up asking to take the free table for two, we weren't offered that option because she forgot. The team this morning had 3 ladies and a guy running the front of house . . . they were young, flustered, and overwhelmed. Having sat at the bar, I was surprised that we even had to ask for service. It's tough for us to enjoy our meals when I can hear everything from not knowing which table drinks had to go to, to not having any cutlery for guests who received their food, to breaking glassware. I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich which came with cream cheese, fried capers, tomato jam, and pickled shallots, accompanied by baby potatoes and small greens. The smoked salmon was abundant and the accompaniments added lots of mixed flavours and textures. The pickled shallots and jam added a sweetness to the saltiness of the salmon. The capers were not overpowering and the bun it came with was soft and easy to cut into. I also got a soy flat white which was strong and tasty. The drip coffee my friend had was bland. I don't recall exactly what we had for dinner but I remember feeling not all that impressed with our menu choices (and probably would have been better off ordering the burger, which seemed very popular). Our most recent visit for brunch was a very different experience. It was hard to choose from so many tasty sounding dishes, but we went with the omelet and savoury French toast. The omelet was well prepared and super flavourful with an accompaniment of perfectly crisp fingerling potatoes. The French toast was delicious with an unconventional pairing of blueberry compote and chunks of crispy pork belly (and this in addition to a couple of bacon strips!). So good!
