The hot water given for our tea was like warm at best. The shakshouka was more like pasta sauce vs a traditional flavourful shakshouka. It came with sour dough bread, which I didn't mind. The eggs were done perfectly. For the eel egg sandwich, my partner found it okay. The egg was cooked well. I found it too sweet, but that is just my own personal preference. I have heard great things about their shrimp toast. Will maybe give that a try next time. read more

I came back to NextDoor to try their delicious looking brunch tower. When I visited, they had a promo where the brunch tower for two is $40 on Monday to Thursday for a limited time (normally $58). It is very filling and you might even end up bringing some home like I did Eggs were fluffy and the extra chili was a nice touch! Potatoes are always a win in my heart so I loved those. I also liked how they added popping boba on top of the pancakes. The toast was great with both their blueberry spread and shakshuka! My friend is visiting from out of town and doesn't want to eat any Asian food. Decided to take them to Nextdoor. On Thursday they have a three course meal called "Nextdoorlicious" any app/main and dessert for $50! +$5 for striploin or salmon! Went for their brunch, I had their side kick brunch with coffee. The presentation of the breakfast was ok. Two slices sour dough, 3-4 slices of bacon, baked tomatoes and 3 eggs. Coffee was dripped coffee so nothing really special about it. What bugged me when I went in the store was the bartender picked up a piece of fruit or something from the floor. Always enjoy the food here at Next Door. Their concept on brunch brings me to Australia where they have a different mindset in how to approach brunch dishes. I love how the menu is not just a simple eggs benedict with potatoes and salad, and that their dishes brings in an asian fusion as well. Pancake flavours are rotational, but overall the pancake base is nice and soft and fluffy. The flavours I had the other time was matcha, and it was well balanced, not overly sweet, and the matcha shines through, complimenting each component of the dish. Their savoury dishes are quite well balanced and full of flavour with various textures bringing the dish together. Whether it be for brunch or dinner, their menu has a nice variety of choices. Came a couple times during summer for its patio, it gets quite busy. On this visit, I had the Huevos Rancheros Hash, and Okonomiyaki Burger. The Huevos Rancheros were very tasty, big dollop of sauce and salsa. Huge portion. The Okonomiyaki Burger actually came severely undercooked, but we just let them know and they brought out another one pretty quickly. It was a late weekend afternoon and we were craving for brunch. Their patio was completely packed so we sat inside instead. The tables inside were placed with plenty of space between them and there is a plexiglass wall between each table. A good effort from management for this setup - it really makes the experience safe and more enjoyable. It is the first time I have tried this combination with fried chicken and french toast. It is surprisingly not very oily. It comes with a maple syrup flavour butter on the side. The fried chicken is cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside and full of juice inside. The portion of each dish is quite big so we couldn't finish the tiramisu dessert. The tiramisu pancakes were good but it would be better if there were more variety of fruits like blueberries and black berries that goes with the strawberries. We had visited Nextdoor right before the stay at home order. Reservations were mandatory and they screen you upon arrival. As you enter into the dining room, I noticed the covid impact. There were plastic dividers between each table - in front and behind. Made me feel very safe to be here. What didn't change was the uplifting and amazing service I've come to know at Nextdoor. Always smiles and super friendly. The food was amazing as I remembered. The oknomiyaki burger is original and true to its name. The mix of umami flavour and breakfasy pancake and eggs with all the sauce... simply chefs kiss. For that hour we had the table, I forgot about covid and how it had taken so much away from us. I finally got the chance to try out NextDoor during Brunch time. Looking at all the raving reviews and pictures, I was really looking forward to this restaurant. This restaurant is right on the corner of the building, sitting beside a small pond. The patio is nice as it's spacious and has a decent view. We came around 2:30, and didn't realize last call for Brunch was at 2:45 so we had to quickly order. I ordered the Okonomiyaki Cheeseburger ($20). I thought this dish was OK. There were way too many flavours and things stacked on top of each other, I had to deconstruct the "burger" and eat things separately. There wasn't a "burger" touch to it at all in my opinion. My friend ordered the French Onion Cheeseburger ($21) and upgraded their side to truffle fries ($2). The fries were pretty mediocre to me, didn't really live up to the waitress's hype, but nonetheless, I did enjoy the fries as it had a good crunch to it. We ordered their fried chicken special which was topped with Japanese salmon caviar. Also ordered Brussels sprouts which was decent. I like that it got an Asian twist to it, and it's not too fatty at all, a good appetizer to start a three-course meal. It is garnished with pickled chili, scallions, and sesame seeds, and those are great add on! - Oysters [SKIP]: The oysters are tiny and definitely on the smaller side than we expected. It was kind of fresh, but not the best I've had. It was a bit disappointing, to be honest. The house made cocktail sauce was lacking a tanginess to it and boring, and the horseradish was not as strong or spicy as I wanted it to be, so skip on the oysters. - King Salmon [GET]: I don't usually order salmon at a restaurant, but I am glad that I did. The salmon was beautifully cooked with a juicy interior, and the yuzu hollandaise sauce was delicious. My favorite was the potato gnocchi; it got a nice texture and chew to it, doughy and fluffy. The nori purée pairs perfectly with the baby spinach, roasted corn, and shiitake mushrooms. Lastly, the rice pearls were a nice touch, added another layer of texture. I very much enjoyed this dish. - Matchamisu [GET]: Not the best dessert I've had, but definitely a good one. The matchamisu was pretty tasty. The matcha mousse was creamy with a strong matcha flavor. The matcha crumble added a extra layer of texture and crunch to the dessert as a whole. The ladyfingers should be the highlight, but it was a bit stale, and I wished it soaked up a bit more of the matcha. I still think it's a good choice of dessert here overall. Ambiance: 4.25/5 - I like the ambiance here a lot. Interior is clean, bright, and organized. There's leather chairs and tables available. I love that there's a small bench near the bathroom available for us to sit and wait for our party before we head out. Also, FYI, the right side of the restaurant, it's a full cocktail bar, and the left side would be the main dining room. If you want to come for brunch, make sure to come early and make reservation, since NextDoor is kind of small. Perfect for brunch or a classy yet still casual dinner. Price: 3.75/5 - The prices here are high compared to other places, but I think it could be worth it if you order the right items from the menu. The duck wings are $15, the oysters are always seasonal price, king salmon was $35, and the matchamisu was $10 before tax. I would say it's worth of a try if this is your first time, but overall, too expensive in the GTA, when you can find better food choices / options at a cheaper price. Service: 4.5/5 - The service here was awesome and superior. There's around 60 people at the venue that night at the wedding, but we all felt we were well taken care of that night. The staffs are attentive and nice, and they offered to help us clean up after the wedding such as displays and props. Lots of my friends were quite wasted, but they offered water too and gave us a lot of care at the end of the party, so really appreciate the staffs' help and support. BLUF: An Asian fusion spot that is famous and popular for its brunch items. I would recommend make a reservation before you head to NextDoor, especially for brunch. I was so happy to finally get out to brunch once York Region lifted some of their dine in restrictions. I called in to book a spot & they were accommodating. When I came in they had each table separated by plexi glass and were operating at a reduced capacity. I felt very safe dining in there! Now for the food - amazing! We were a group of 4 with no reservations but we were able to get seats at the bar which we were totally fine with as they were fully booked with reservations. We ordered the okonomiyaki burger, pancakes of the day (fresh strawberries), truffle fries, Avocado toast and the huevos rancherous hash. The food was delicious! Pancakes were fluffy, truffle fries were addictive, hash browns in the huevos rancherous was crispy, Avocado toast had salmon which was torched, super flavorful. Highly recommend getting the truffle fries and any of the above dishes. Really looking forwards to coming back here for lunch and dinner. We came here for a weekend reservation. The front door was a bit hard to find, although there was plenty of parking, we had to walk around the building to find the front door. The restaurant seemed very spacious and had plenty of seating. I was in a party of 6 and it felt like it could accommodate even larger groups than that. The service was friendly and efficient. I got a chai latte and the shrimp toast which came with a Malaysian style omelette. I wished the chai latte came with a dusting of cinnamon but quickly realized that it didn't come with extra cinnamon because the chai latte itself was very cinnamon-y. I would try another drink in the future. I really enjoyed my omelette, I'm not familiar with the flavours typically found in a Malaysian breakfast but the omelette, shrimp and toast were savoury, interesting and delicious. Other people in my party got the avocado toast and had differing opinions (too many flavours vs enough flavours in 1 dish). The Peking duck pancakes seemed like way too large of a jump into fusion food territory but the soba noodles seemed delicious and I might be tempted to try that in the future. I shared the mango pavlova for dessert and found it perfectly baked with a sweet, mango-y middle. I would definitely order that again. Whenever I'm looking for a fancy western restaurant to visit uptown, NextDoor always comes to mind first. This weekend we decided to try out their 'licious menu for a special celebration. It's a 3-course meal for $40 (available until Feb 10). Unfortunately, one of our main course was missing from our delivery. Quite disappointed but I would still highly recommend cause everything that did make it were delicious . My favs were: jerk pork belly tostada: loved the flavour profile of this - it's a mix of spicy from the jerk & tangy from the pineapple salsa. The tostada surprisingly stayed crunchy and put together through the delivery. braised lamb shoulder curry - the lamb shoulder was soo tender and juicy, and the curry was perfect with some garlic naan on the side banoffee pie (no photo) - this wasn't photo worthy since it just looked like whipped cream with chocolate sauce in a container, but damnnnn I was sooo blown away at how good this was!! I recently dined here on their patio this past week. The entrance is located to the side close to the water mill. There was hand sanitizer available at the front, and all staff were wearing masks. The tables were spaced apart, and they tried to put the tables underneath umbrellas due to the hot weather. The menus are accessed virtually through their website. It would be ideal if they provide Wifi though for those that don't have data. We ordered the Duck confit with pancakes, and the Avocado toast. I also ordered the Lavender blueberry mint juice, which tasted quite odd to me. I prefer their Sangrias better. The duck leg was really crispy and cooked to perfection! The Avocado toast was just alright, as the toast was quite hard but I did like the generous portions of butternut squash and avocado spread on it. The service was pleasant, but it took awhile for the waiter to come and check up on our table. Personally, I prefer their other restaurant Smash Kitchen as they offer more classic brunch choices, such as Eggs Benedict and Chicken/Waffles. I'm not as much of a fan of the fusion taste, but the ambiance is nice for group gatherings. Overall, I would give this place a 3.5* stars. read more
