It is a fun place to go in that it has a very bar like environment. As it is a bar and Grill you also can take kids there without a big problem. They offer free popcorn as you're waiting and the food is pretty good however I would say That it's pretty heavy as well. But I guess that's the point of a burger place! This is an American bar food - complete with a bar - restaurant. We arrived, Service Dog in tow. The staff told us to seat ourselves. It is mostly booths with some bar stools and high top tables but a few regular tables off to one side to accommodate larger parties (and great for Service Dogs to fit underneath). The server will bring fresh popped popcorn with the menus. And this is where it gets difficult because if you like burgers or fried foods, it is a difficult decision! I can tell you that medium rare burgers are medium rare. A true rarity! And big enough that I cut mine into 4 pieces to be able to pick it up and eat it. The sweet potato waffle fries were worth the upgrade fee even though I could not finish them all! My wife's grilled tacos were also very good. There was nothing incredibly unique in the food but it was made *very* well. And the location of the restaurant was excellent. I had an early appointment at Mayo Clinic (Mothership, as we affectionately call the Mayo building) and then a later appointment at the Mayo Infusion Center. Newt's North is in Downtown Rochester. Very nice place. Love the decor and ambience on a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of TV's to watch and music playing lightly in the background made it a comfortable meal. The service was pretty good. They bring fresh popcorn to each table as an appetizer. So this place was advertised as award-winning for their amazing burgers. So how can you go wrong? Let's break it down. The fries were crinkle cut fries and were nothing special. A good burger demands a better than average french fry to go with it. The burger. Well, I actually know a group of guys who have restaurants that make better burgers and killer fries so if i rated this place against them, i would choose the Fiver! However this place wins on ambience and service. Obviously there are many other options to try here so don't just it on just my burger review. The hamburger was good, just not great. We stopped by Newt's North on a Monday about 5pm. The initial service was slow, but once our server came over, everything progressed at a nice pace. There's a family-friendly sports bar vibe to the place. There are TVs everywhere, tuned in to games, and lots of items covering the walls. The smell of popcorn permeates the restaurant because a bowl of popcorn serves as the gratis appetizer that everyone gets along with their menus. That definitely sets this place apart! We ordered drinks from the bar and cheese curds as our appetizer. The curds were AMAZING. I could tell they were incredibly fresh, as they were wonderfully squeaky with a great pull. Ranch and ketchup were served alongside. For our main entrees, my husband ordered the Three Little Piggies Melt with tots (he loved it, said it hit the spot nicely) while I had a Chicken Caesar Salad (fresh greens, with a good amount of chicken, croutons, and cheese). Newt's North is the sibling bar and grill to Newt's original downtown location. It's significantly more spacious than its older brother, but both could be described as dark, loud, and slightly divey, with taxidermy mounts and blankets of popcorn perpetually and intentionally left covering the floor. Perhaps that's where the newts are hiding! Newtmerous sandwiches and unique burgers fill the menu here, earning the restaurant the title of "Best Burgers in Rochester" from Rochester Magazine every year since the early 2000's. The Three Piggy's Melt alone blows the house down with pepper Jack, crispy fried onions, bacon, ham, and pulled pork topped with a bourbon buffalo sauce (though personally I'd leave off the ham.) Wolf that baby down! My favorite hot mess to order is Todd's Burger, topped with bacon, fried eggs and cheese. It's a huge, delicious cardiac event waiting to happen. Split it into two meals or share it, because you're not going to grow a new heart unless you are, in fact, a newt. Not one to give Wisconsin all the glory for their curds, Newt's also makes some mean cheese curds that you simply must order on the side. While their burgers and curds are newtoriously good, I wouldn't make a special trip to Rochester just for dinner here. But it's always a perfect casual meal after a day of shopping at Apache Mall. This afternoon six of us met @ Newts for lunch. Err a delicious lunch. First off they have a bowl of popcorn on the table. delicious but it's the chips & salsa of a burger restaurant. So I over indulged enough that I only ate half my burger. Rest assured 4.5 hours later it warmed up for a just as delicious meal! The side options are salad, fries, or cole slaw. Five of us opted for salad and I did try one fry. They were delicious but w the pre-meal popcorn I would have ate less of my burger. Three of us ordered the Marvin's and were happy. One had chicken strips, the other California burger w add-on's of onions and pickles. I opted for the Hefe Rojo. I asked our server if he jalapeno Jam was hot? He said no... I didn't confirm if he was Minnesotan :p as I figured for sure he would say yes. I had the sauce on the side. I dunked my last bite in it, I mean dunked! So I thought it had some heat on it , so I was glad I got it on the side. Our party was there about two hours and it never got busy enough that we felt our server wanted to turn our tables which was appreciated. I like that the restaurant is pretty spread out and its eclectic decor... deer heads, a bike, to the beer bottle border. Newt's is a true gem of a place. For a burger bar the choices aren't too overwhelming and cover the gamut for your palate. I look forward to my next pass through Rochester to stop in for a meal! Newt's North has consistent great food and service. The hamburgers are still the best in Rochester, and the fries to go with them are perfect. Even though we usually go with the hamburgers, there is nothing on the menu that will disappoint. The few times I have tried something else, it is always quality. The service is the perfect combination of efficiency without being intrusive. The atmosphere is fun, but you can still enjoy visiting and hear conversations. The prices are reasonable and while you wait for your food (which won't be too long), there is popcorn to enjoy with your drink. We live 25 miles outside of Rochester, but Newt's North is easy access off of Highway 52 and worth the drive. Well done for keeping up the quality service and food. read more

Upon recommendation from the bartender/server (who was fantastic by the way, didn't catch his name but it was July 14th at 8pm...he deserves a raise!) I ordered the Marvin Burger and fries along with an Island Mule for a refreshment. A good sized burger and soft bun we joined by cheddar cheese, hardwood smoked hickory bacon, and a tangy chipotle mayo....delicious! The food is delicious and you get a lot of it. The burgers will fill even the hungriest teenager or adult. They have been voted the best burger in town for over 10 years.....there is a reason why! They have unique combinations to try like peanut butter burger, or Todd's burger with bacon and 2 fried eggs or the Gustavo with guacamole and pepper jack cheese. Yum. Nice variety of beer on tap, and the Nachos are perfect for a group- they are my favorite. The fried cheese curds are note worthy too. Carry out is a nice option during Covid times of dinning in isn't your thing right now. Breakfast is on hold too for the time being, but will be back I'm told. After all the great reviews on Yelp!, I expected better. Went in for lunch, sat at the bar, and was immediately greeted by a very pleasant bartender. As it's a workday, I just asked for water and she got it quickly, withoutthe attitude I sometimes get when ordering "just water." The menu was intriguing with lots of different combinations, but I chose the Shroom burger: mushrooms and Swiss cheese, with a side of cole slaw. "Medium OK?" my server asked. Sure. It came out pretty quickly considering it was a busy lunch hour, but it was medium-rare, not medium. That was OK with me, but it wasn't the way it was ordered. "Medium" is a pink center; mine was obviously still red. On top of that, the burger was actually pretty bland. I tried it first as it came, then added salt, and finally some mustard. Nothing saved it. I only ate about half, as I couldn't see putting down that many calories and not even enjoying it. The cole slaw was quite good and the star of my show. Creamy, but with enough tang to make it interesting. Too often, what passes for cole slaw is actually just shredded cabbage. Newt's was good! In a nutshell, four-star service but only two-star food. At least for what I had. $16 for a burger (with tip, without beverage) was too much for something that forgettable. read more

We'd never been to Newt's and as soon as we walked in the door we were surrounded by the smell of fresh popcorn! Oookay!!! We found a seat with a view of our RV parked across the way and settled in. Olivia took great care of us and without even having to ask she intrinsically knew my wish - being served a hot burger + cold beer at the same time = perfection! Great ambiance, service, and a fantastic peanut butter burger. I'd take 1/2 a point off for the kitchen messing up our order (1 of 5 sliders was wrong) but the rest was tooo good!! Down in Rochester for the afternoon and found a great little burger joint. Mainstay in Rochester. It's a hole in the wall, dive bar, greasy spoon joint but does everything right so no changes necessary. We both loves our burgers. Ordered takeout and ate in the grass ad we weren't quite sure with the pandemic and weren't quite comfortable eating indoors. My guys burger was as big as his head nearly, the works was a 3/4 lb patty, he loved it, I got the California. Fries were spot on. The nachos looked amazing and must be great as table after table ordered them. Definitely will hit this place up again for a quality burger and get the nachos!! read more

Our waitress was courteous but distracted and forgot a couple things we had to ask for multiple times. The cheese curds were forgotten and came out after our food was ordered.
