I was so excited to have a banh mi shop open in town last year! They were also great about catering for our oncology IG intro panel and everyone enjoyed the banh mis we got. This is a great addition to the Rochester food scene. Of course Old Abe's has the unltimate vegan barn mi and the Asian groceries do as well but this is fresh, delightful, authentic bahn mi. They even cater to the more midwestern palates but the pork and triple pork which are most traditional are just great. The bread is so authentic- light and airy and shatteringly crispy crust. So grateful to have authentic viet banh mi here in Rochester. For around $8, the sandwiches are a great size and packed with protein and veg. You can also stop by kung fu tea next door for a bev. I placed a delivery order for dinner to celebrate Lunar New Years Eve. For the main entrees, I ordered: 1 Bánh Mì Dac Biet (pork sandwich, 3 types of pork) 1 Bánh Mì Cá (sardine sandwich) For sides, I ordered: 3 Bánh Bao Nhan Thit (beef steamed buns) For dessert I ordered: 3 Chuoi Chien (fried bananas) 3 Banh Cam (sesame balls) 1 Che Bap (corn pudding) For a beverage, I ordered: 1 Avocado Smoothy This was my first Lunar New Year feast since I'd moved to Rochester, and I wanted to make it special. This restaurant was highly acclaimed, so I felt like I would be in good hands. Let's dive right in... The food arrived promptly. I asked for 5:30, they tried to get it to me by 5pm. It was on my doorstep at 5:28pm. The driver was very communicative and polite. The value was really amazing...especially for the huge sandwiches. The value of the desserts was a little bit of a stretch. The quality was impressive!! The sandwiches were made with fresh ingredients and tasted pretty good. The bread, the vegetables everything. There wasn't much difference between the ingredients though. Except the sardine sandwich. I couldn't taste the fish at all, but I adored the sauce they added. It brought everything together. This was my favorite of them. The fried bananas were among my favorite, basically like beer-battered shrimp, except bananas instead. LOVED THEM!! I really loved the smoothy too!! It's a lot better than you might think...at first that is. When I got to the bottom of the bottom of the cup, there were several large chunks of avocado. It went from delicious to sad in just a few moments. They could've blended it better. The corn pudding was a cup filled with corn. It wasn't very sweet for a dessert. It was basically just...corn. The sesame balls were okay. Overall though, despite the food being enjoyable, I was still disappointed. I was hoping to have traditional Vietnamese food that was signature to the holiday. Instead, nothing on the menu was holiday-themed. Also, except for the desserts, it all seemed very American. The entrees were hoagies. They had some savory Vietnamese dishes, but they were all sold out. I'm not sure how they could be sold out of entire section of the menu, when the order is placed 4 days in advance. They had one thing left, the meat steamed buns. One thing that I could say, "At least I was able to get one authentic dish tonight" So I ordered a few. The night of the delivery, I received a call from the restaurant saying they were out of the buns, so they offered to replace it with another sandwich. That was very considerate of them to call, but that was the last shred of festiveness that was now gone from the order. I wanted a Vietnamese restaurant that'd honor the holiday with a thematic feast. Instead I got deli sandwiches with some fun snacks. -2 stars The year of the horse is feeling a little worrisome. Little Gem , when operator only sell only 1 product most likely will be very good , which this place IS . Very nice Setting , Clean , for Spring and summer , is perfect to sit outside patio, the patio has very good ambiance and beautiful. The focus on the products are evidence . If the Banh Mi Bread is toasted lightly, would be Perfect . The Grilled Pork is not exactly grilled , more to Steamed preparations , it would be perfect if Blackpeppered lightly , and charcoal grilled so the meat would be fragrantly charred a bit . The vegetables are perfectly prepared cilantro seems carefully selected , carrots also perfect , I personally prefers more of the carrots to balance with plenty of meats , but the price is so reasonably priced. We tried the Fish patties , not too good , the Combo is very good , next time we will try the Meatballs , we heard very good from other customers. We tried the Steam Buns , very good priced and taste spot On , the Iced Coffee is perfect blends of Condensed milk and coffee taste. What an amazing find! I think these Bahn Mi were better than the ones I had in Vietnam last year. My wife and I went to Rochester this morning to get Vietnamese for lunch - we usually go next door - but had to try this place and we're glad we did. I had the grilled pork Bahn mi and my wife had the curry-tofu one. Both were amazing. They make their own bread every day, and that makes a HUGE difference. We both had Vietnamese coffee - she had the traditional and I had salted coffee, which was amazing as well. We will definitely be back, wish we lived closer. read more

I really wanted to like this place but was turned off by the bread which had obviously not been freshly baked. A bahn mi, based on my experience with similar places in the metro, requires freshly-baked bread. This is a non-negotiable element of success for this business. It they ignore it and keep serving old bread, they will fail. Otherwise, the bahn mi was fine though I do question the "grilled chicken," which comes in micro parts. read more

We love the banh mi here! The rolls are bakery fresh with a good chewy texture and still soft in the middle. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. Our favorite is the combo banh mi. We always get boba tea next door to go along with the sandwiches. You can eat outside or sit inside at King Fu Tea. The price of the banh mi is very reasonable.
