I saw Great Harvest Bread passing by after a swim at the Rec Center and I was like - kewl beans! I was in town visiting family for the week, and where I am from we had 2 Great Harvest Breads there and both have unfortunately shut down. That's a real bummer because I have been a GHB fan dating back to the 90s coming from Michigan. Our lone store in Austin, TX had closed down w/in the past year or so, and that was disappointing. So I just had to hop in here for a visit. So many good breads and pastries here! I had to be careful since I am traveling, and my parents are in their mid 70s and don't eat that much bread. But they let me sample pretty much everything on the bread board. I loved them all to be honest, but the Challah, Honey Wheat, Triple Berry, and Beer Cheese Bread really won me over. My next dilemma was which and how much should I get? It took me a while but I had a talk with the owner here who was very nice and helpful. The Challah is their top seller so I went for those rolls - and they were phenomenal! I also got the Triple Berry since it's a special for the holiday - and that was a hit too! And why not the beer cheese? Hell yes that too! Oh wow - and they had Butter Pecan Muffins - damn why not those too? We went for Butter Pecan ice cream the other day at Albert Lea but they ran out so maybe these will make up for that. Well I ended up giving half of everything to my parents, and then ate what I could, and then put the rest in my suitcase to take back home. We loved all of the offerings. I missed out on the Honey Wheat but oh well, maybe on the next trip. Had a nice conversation with the owner who is relatively new (past few years) and he was very nice, accommodating, and makes some of the best damn bread I've had in a long time. One of my favorite highlights of my trip to Rochester area that exceeded expectations. read more

When I tried to relay the experience to the staff, instead of acknowledging our experience and using customer service skills the staff wanted to argue with me. They sell you " day old" bread at full price. I have never been to a bakery that doesn't have everything fresh and ready to go by 7 or 8 am. The girl said to come back late morning if you want it fresh. I'm not going to pay $8 for a loaf of stale bread. Ridiculous, and to top it off they want a tip to hand you a loaf of cold bread. Had a very rude encounter this morning with one of the employees. The man seemed to be in such a hurry, and when I was selecting my bread, he asked me a question and I didn't understand so he hollered it.I just wasn't sure what he was calling a specific shape of a loaf of bread so I had to ask. My husband and I came here for lunch when we were visiting from out-of-town since we read such great Yelp reviews! The bakery is following Covid guidelines with masks and fewer tables to provide social distancing. The gentleman who took our orders was very nice and answered out questions with patience. I got the California Cobb with bacon, avocado, turkey, and blue cheese spread on honey wheat. Hubby ordered the Tuscan chicken panini with sun-dried tomato pesto on focaccia. Yum! Yum! Yum! Top notch. We had usually frequented the "east" location on Broadway for lunches about once a week. Once I found the chicken salad, there were really no other options in town for "just grabbing a sandwich". It also ruined any store bought chicken salad to the degree that we had to swing by every so often and ask them to just sell us some CS by the pound or container or whatever. Side note, I always enjoy the "you're a genius" response I get from the staff when I add bacon to the CS. (Note: at the west location the CS adds "salt and pepper". I suggest not doing that.) Besides the lunches, its a great place to swing by with the kids and get a snack of cinnamon chip bread in the afternoon. Besides the lunches and snacks, its a great place to swing by for the best Thanksgiving you will ever have after you pick up a loaf of the rosemary/garlic bread and use it to make your stuffing, as well as picking up the basil/oregano rolls for the main dinner and all the leftover sandwiches. Those breads make my favorite holiday even better. Now the "west" store comes along and rocks my world with the new bacon/apple/spicy jam grilled cheese sammy and the breakfast sammies. Even the salads are pretty awesomely amazing. Next on the todo list are a breakfast sammy on the biscuit instead of bread and then the coup de grâce for any other breakfast sammy in town, getting the veggie + bacon + spicy jam. The smell alone is heavenly and the breads didn't disappoint. I have a food allergy and the lovely lady I worked with pulled out the ingredients for each of the loaves to be certain I would be okay. This Great Harvest location is small in stature but big in flavor. On Saturdays there is often a line out the door. They don't offer as many of the exotic options as the locations in the cities, but have the traditional favorites that will keep you coming back for more. The pumpkin chocolate chip is to die for, as is the white cinnamon chip bread. They typically won't have fresh loads ready until after 10 AM, trust me, I've made that mistake before. Over also tried their wheat cinnamon chocolate chip bread, but I'm sorry it's just not as good as the white flour version. The cinnamon rolls are also delicious and they offer both a frosted and non-frosted version if you're looking to skip some of the sugar. read more

This shop looked unassuming from the outside, but once indoors, you feel transported to a gourmet bakery paradise. The freshly baked rounds and the special flavors make you want to get every single flavors available. Go in from the left door to try some amazing flavors prior to making your choice. I went with Guinness and Gouda and it was amazing! The bread was soft, chewy, fragrant, and delicious overall. I finished my whole round on the third day and it tasted as delicious as the first. I was also attracted to the sandwich station. Get the paninis, you won't regret it. It is made with half rounds. The other sandwiches however are soso, it's not worth it getting the sandwiches made with toasts. I've found my go-to bread place for rest of my stay here! Love it! read more

I will concede that he definitely is passionate about his sandwiches and cares a lot about his business. So keep in mind my review is only for the one sandwich I've had - perhaps you'll have a different experience. I suggest that Great Harvest serve better and more varied vegetarian options if they would like to get better reviews from vegetarians - a really good vegetarian sandwich should be something that an omnivore would happily eat. I look forward to the (seasonal) pumpkin chocolate chip batter bread all year, to the extent that my parents mailed it to me when I went off to college. Great Harvest is the BEST bread store with so much more! I come here every single week for a hearty & nutritious loaf of their High Five Fibre with berries. Their panini sandwiches for lunch are also terrific (Spicy Smoked Turkey & Pepper Jack for the win!!!). I have tried a few of the pastries as well (muffins, scones, cookies, bars) and they are equally delicious. Lastly, I would like to mention the wonderful staff -- they are always kind, polite, and helpful! All in all a wonderful business with a great owner. Great job guys, keep it up! read more

The lunch crowd does not flow thru here so easily. I think they should have one counter only in the entrance where they serve the bread. It is not very organized and hard to see all your options when people are breathing down your neck. The soup was good--i had smoked pepper and gouda. The guy behind the counter did not mention i could do soup/sandwich ---they were out of the first thing i ordered and then i was going to try the pasty they advertised but that apparently is frozen and you have to call ahead..The food is acceptable but they seriously need to work the kinds out --i also don't like that you cannot service your own ice and water. read more

Great Harvest makes some super tasty breads and the kids behind the counter are always really nice. It's more expensive than the grocery store, but the ingredients tend to be much better and the food much tastier, too. The savory, herb breads and the honey whole wheat are definitely my favorites. They make a jalapeno cheddar l oaf of bread that is to die for. This is almost a weekly stop for me for their lunch deli. The Spicy Smoked Turkey panini tops the list. The bread they use for this panini really sets it off. Not to mention the amazing chipotle sauce they use. As long as you are OK with a little bit of spice, do yourself a favor and try this sandwich!
