I have been there a few times but the last time was not a good experience. My wife and I wanted to split the tenderloin. The portion is so big that we can't eat a whole one. We ordered and sat there for over 30 minutes waiting for our meal. I usually don't wait that long for anything. We finally got up and left. I will go back for a giant tenderloin again but if I have to wait that long again, I will walk out again. I have heard this from other patrons as well. I tried breakfast there once and I was disapointed. read more

Service is glacial!!!! Did not order anything hard. Lots of activity, servers scurrying around but NO FOOD!!! Must be very light in the kitchen. Noisy read more

Amazing organic home made food deffinately my new fav when in Waterloo!!

I went when it was slow and got very good service. I ordered the tenderloin and probably had more left over than most sandwiches start with. Pretty cool cafe/diner. I would go back. read more

If you have all day to eat lunch and will be happy if you still never get your food, this is the place for you! It was an hour before we got our food and then only after we started to walk out. Folks in line at the register were complaining of the same thing. Food was probably okay when it was hot, 45 minutes before we got it cold. Sweet potato salad was made with raw hard chunks of sweet potato. Smarmy waiter who took our orders and disappeared offered not apologies and acted as if we were rude for being upset with his total lack of service. If you get cold food it means the waiter blew you off and did not deliver it. Others came, ate and left before we ever saw our food. Our group of a whole six people on our lunch break agreed that this was the worst service and worst dining experience ever. Seriously, an hour and 15 min. to get cold food and either wolf it down and take back to work in a to go box which half of us did. There are other restaurants close by Newton's. They can't be worse, unless of course our worthless waiter was fired and working there now. read more

Have been there several times.. Food is good but slow service.. Today i walked in sat at the bar without anyone acknowledging me so i left. They were busy but a simple "we'll be right with you" would have been nice. Don't plan on going here for a quick meal. read more

Lovely cafe, with a very comfortable atmosphere! Today was my first time going as I heard they have scrumptious breakfast. The service was great as well as the time it took to get food out. Delicious food, no doubt :) ....BUT I got food poisoning from it. First impressions mean a lot, and I don't think I will be going back. read more

Super great giant Iowa tenderloin!! Blue cheese on eclectic salad was insanely Delish! Friendly service with free refills. Grown up grilled cheese was for at least two grown ups or 4 kids! Wonderful atmosphere with plenty of comfy booths. read more

Newton's Paradise Cafe - New American Near Me - Waterloo, Iowa

The place is pretty new and great atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, and accommodating. The menu is slightly limited and small. I had grilled cheese with a side of French fries. The grilled cheese was great and the side of fries was huge. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast or lunch if you're walking around the area. Neat spot with good food. read more

Came here on a Sunday morning with friends, waited 30 minutes for service plus an hour and 45 for our food. Bused our own table upon arriving, order was wrong when received, service was beyond painful. Food was good but not sure the wait was worth it read more

Solid restaurant. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Menu is pretty small though and my grilled tenderloin was a lot more moist than i would've liked read more

Excellent FRESH food and great service! Best burgers, tenderloins and breakfasts in town!

Had brunch here today and loved it. Iowa Toast is a nice play on the classic and staff was a joy to be around. The feel of the place is like you have been going there all your life, but with a fresh, clean feel. Highly recommended. read more

We were on vacation and stopped in Waterloo for the evening. We rode downtown, looking for a place to eat. Being from the South we were looking for a good midwestern restaurant to experience. We saw Newton's Paradise Cafe and it was so charming we decided to check YELP to see the reviews. Glowing lunch reviews made us decide to go there for dinner. We were a bit surprised at the limited menu and the high prices for a place that looked like an old fashioned diner. We ordered our dinner...deciding to give it a try. My husband had the frenched pork rack and it was delicious, worthy of the price i might add! But I can only give the restaurant two stars because my open roast beef sandwich missed the mark! I received a plate that had a huge piece of focaccia bread with roast beef nestled inside the bun. Over the top of the sandwich...a glutenous gravy that was not appetizing at all. The mashed potatoes on the bottom were luke warm as was the whole dish. The rosemary in the bread and the flavoring in the gravy totally overpowered the beef. Being a true Southerner I did not complain....I was disappointed as I was looking for a nice hot meal after a day of driving. Our waitress was a bit condescending as she waited on us...so overall I cannot in good conscience give this restaurant more than two stars. read more

Visiting family in Evansdale and came across a review of this place and am sure glad we stopped by. This is the best restaurant meal I have had in many moons. The food, presentation and service was outstanding!!!! We had questions about the specials on the menu and the sous chef came out of the kitchen to answer our questions. The food is fresh and local, local farms provide many of the specials. I had osso bucco( an italian slow cooked on the bone pork) in the most delicious sauce of tomatoes, onions, celery and red wine. The portion was huge and all three of us tried and loved it. My daughter had a roasted chicken breast and prosciotto with luscious sauted mushrooms. It was served with a gorgazola risotto that was out of this world. My husband had ribeye the best he has had in years. Extremely tender and delicious. The chef owner alsi greted us and made sure everthing was perfect. The prices are extremely reasonable especially for the quality of the food. I wish I had this place where I lived, it is wonderful!!!!! read more

Fantastic. We went for lunch on Saturday and changed our plans so we could be back for breakfast on Sunday. The pulled pork sandwich was outstanding, but the biscuits and gravy were even better. The steak with the steak and eggs was cooked a perfect medium rare. The Bloody Mary was as good as all the reviews had made it out to be. We will definitely be back on our next trip. read more

Touch and go with food quality and service. Had some good experiences a few years ago, but recent visits have been poor. Waited for an hour for our bill, and the food was mediocre. read more

Waited 10 minutesutes and watched two other tables arrive after us and receive immediate service. We were completely ignored. Will not be back. read more

Used to be our favorite place to go, they closed for awhile and redid the kitchen, we hoped that would make the service better. EVERY TIME we go, they're understaffed and slow. Today (Saturday) we went for lunch at 12:30 and wanted to eat outside- they ask that you let them know before you sit outside (understandable), so I popped inside and asked that a table be cleared off for us, as all the tables outside were taken or dirty (another common occurrence- tables are always sitting dirty. The nice waitress said someone would be right there. About 5min later I went back in to check- after 3 staff members walked by me- the same waitress stopped and said someone would be right out. A few minutes later they did come out. We ordered and waited over 25min for 2 sandwiches. Our drinks were never refilled. Oh and when we left, all the tables outside were STILL dirty. Sorry- won't be going back. Good food, good atmosphere, super slow service, not worth my time. read more

Came for the Bloody Mary and wasn't disappointed! Plenty of dressings and good spice!

I love their tenderloins. I usually end up with enough for 3 meals. Not a big fan of the sweet potato salad, but I do enjoy the coleslaw. Love the history of the building (it's an old jewelry store) in a downtown location. read more

Love the pesto chicken wrap! Such a cute place downtown! Also they have the best breakfast sausage ever! :)

This is my second time coming to Newtons and I have loved it both times! They say they are famous for their bloody Mary's and HUGE pork tenderloins and they are fantastic! The Bloody Mary is fully loaded and delicious and the pork tenderloin is so juicy. I have also had the roast beef sandwich with the sweet potato salad and they were both very tasty. It should be noted though that their sweet potato chips are actually covered in cinnamon sugar so they are more like a desert than a side. Overall this place is a must try when in Waterloo! read more

Stopped in on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. Starting from the beautiful Art Deco facade to the cozy and comfortable environment I really felt like I was in a true American diner. Seated by the window and looking out at the quaint city and passersby really invoked a feeling of yesteryear. The waitress was extremely nice and welcoming. I had the best Monte Cristo sandwich I've ever had!! The ham and turkey were great, lean cuts of meat, the cheese was perfectly melted and gooey. And the French toast was crispy, yet soft and perfectly cooked. It was served with a side of homemade raspberry jam that was the best pairing with this salty/sweet breakfast-lunch sandwhich. I also had a cup of vegetable soup that was tasty on this chilly afternoon. read more

I went back not too long ago, two times actually, and both times the service was horrible and the food was definitely not as good as the first time. It takes forever to get the food (30 min when there are only 3 tables taken in the place) and the server we had avoided us until the food finally came out. :( Bad service. read more

Newtons Paradise had a traditional diner atmosphere, stylish decor, but mostly importantly great food!

Super good food and the portion size of the pork tenderloin sandwich was awesome. And the service was better than I have received in some 5 star restaurants. Our server said that she was moving to Portland Oregon in the upcoming months and that is sad as she will not be there to give us the great service we had today. read more

We sat right away. But. waited over an hour for our food. Good food, but waiting for an hour at 1pm on a Friday is ridiculous. The manager was very kind to give us a $10 discount. Sam the waitress was very RUDE and condisending. It would have been nice if our waitress Sam would have kept us informed during the wait time. We had to ask other waitresses about the delay read more

Stopped in for lunch while traveling thru the area. Caprese salad was great. I also sampled a cup of the soup of the day, which was a buffalo chicken - a little too spicy for me, but good flavors. read more

Wow. Waterloo meets Soho. Food is absolutly delicious and the presentation is great. Dom"t expect corn beef hash at this diner. This is upscale food at budget prices. I orderd the rock hen cacciatore which was prepared over a rissoto and vegatable mix. Delicious and perfectly done. The owner is very knowledgable about the food that he serves and gave me a history lesson on the rock hen and he is happy to make recommendations that suite your palate. The art deco appearance compliments the restored building and the neon sign is awsome. You won't regret a visit to this diner. read more

My wife and I visited Newton's for the 1st time. I chose the colossal tenderloin with Parmesan cheese fries. It was absolutely fantastic. My wife selected the fresh trout with basil mashed potatoes with asparagus from the menu of daily specials. The wonderful layers of flavors were memorable. read more

We visit Waterloo once a year and visited Newtons last May. Food is awesome. However, we just learned that a gift certificate we purchased for a friend was not honored because the restaurant is under new management. We called the manager this morning and received no satisfaction. I would have to rate the restaurant "customer unfriendly" in this instance. read more

Great food and service! Hubby had the tenderloin sandwich, and besides being huge, it had great meat and was lightly breaded. I had the smoked chicken quesadilla with three different sauces. Wonderful. read more

Great food great service, the sweet potato salad is great. Sides of fries come in huge portions!

The sweet potato salad was amazing. I wasn't sure if I wanted to order it as my side, but thankful I did. Everything we ordered was great and it is a local place, so we should support them. The place itself was unique kid of like an old diner feel, but very clean and restored beautifully. Great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. read more

We have been a big fan of Newton's ever since they opened, but today was a disappointment. We arrived around 9:30 am and there was a a good crowd but no one was waiting to be seated and after confirming with the waitress, we sat down at a table outside. We sat there for at least 15 minutes before being asked if we wanted something to drink. After our food was brought to us and we ate and were ready to go, we waited another 15 minutes for someone to come and bring our check. No one ever did. Finally one of us went inside to ask and a gal told us it would be right out. We waited another 10 minutes and went in again. Horribly slow service today. From the time we arrived to the time we finally were able to leave, it was about an hour and a half. And we only got something to drink once. No one asked us if we wanted more. I have friends from out of town that have gone there and they said the service was very slow. read more

I thought this place was decent. I thought the service was just OK. Had to ask for our waitress to fill up our waters instead of her asking us if we need more. Just seemed to not care too much. It is a pretty neat atmosphere though! I would recommend anyone to go and have lunch here. Definitely a more "chill" restaurant. The breakfast is also amazing!! read more

It was my wife's birthday and just wanted a quite sandwich and conversation at about 7pm, normally love coming here. What we got was a soggy sandwich, fries without usual trimmings after we sat at a dirty table for ten minutes waiting for service. The table next to us had to reorder because of being out of that menu item. The service has been slow in the past with the food making up for that, but not this time. read more
