won't go back to newton's again, after last sat for breakfast. There country fried steak, was terrible, it was to be served with peppered gravy, it came with sausage gravy, then they charged for the dam gravy, ask the waitress about why you charged me for the gravy, she come up with stupid excuse that peppered gravy was a supper thing, i said what, i ordered breakfast. then didn't tell me that eggs and toast didn't come with the meal. so i was charged for eggs and toast. it came with hash browns. the wife had to wait at least 15mins, or more for her meal. i asked where was my eggs and toast, when it finally showed up they had another order of hash browns on that plate.. wanted onions in my hash browns, said they couldn't do because it was sat, but they charged me for my onions, they said they took the price of the onions off, but it was right there on the ticket..started argue with about the price and the charges, couple of the other waitress started give really looks. thought piss on this told them we never coming back. $11.25 for country fried steak,it was a rip off. had country fried steak at least 200 restaurants around this country this the worst. never go back.. read more

Not only do they cook with locally grown food but today they were selling produce from local farmers. We had a great lunch and then took home a zucchini and cucumbers. read more

They cost more than their local competition, and their portions are small for the dollar amount, unless you order the tenderloin. I have had bad service there, to The point I was not waited on at all. It has gotten better over the years read more

Great experience on our first trip to Waterloo. Food was incredibly good; both in taste and huge portions (could've been halved and been just as good). If you like old fashioned diners, this is your place. They serve breakfast all day. HUGE Iowa tenderloin. Menu is somewhat limited but what they make is fantastic. Ate breakfast here on a Sunday. Massive hand-made tenderloin sandwich. I had to cut the meat in half and stack it and it was still twice as big as the bun. Good fries, too. I wish there was a slightly bigger beer selection, but they did have more than the usual macro offering. read more

Amazing food and great service!! also loved the coffee! I had the chicken enchilada for an appetizer and their pico was incredible. Definitely hit and miss with the service. At times appear to be understaffed. When food arrives at the table though I have always been impressed with the taste, texture and temperature. Recently I have tried there new pulled pork sandwich, easily the best I have had in the area. Couple the sandwich with there coleslaw and cottage cheese and it will be hard to beat. We were driving thru Waterloo and stopped for lunch on Free Fry Friday. Our group of 4 started with the cheese curds which were good, typical fried cheese. We had 2 order the adult grilled cheese that is very very cheesy. Parm fries were delicious. Other adult tried the massive pork tenderloin with parm fries. Horribly slow service; not crowded and it still took over an hour for our food to arrive. Gravy on 'hot beef' tasted burnt; bread on beef with cheese sandwiches with au jus was terribly dry; overall, for 7 different lunches, only 2 were acceptable. Yes, the tenderloin is oversized, But putting a tiny hamburger bun in the middle is ridiculous, a larger bun is definitely called for even though IT still wouldn't reach the edges of the meat. Tables were not wiped off well, still sticky. Waiter came to ask 'how many checks?' to which we replied 'one' AND a piece of carrot cake BUT the cake never came. Overall, I would NOT recommend this overpriced café whose food is not tasty at all. read more

Went here with my family this morning, was so excited to try it because I have heard good things. Needless to say I was very disappointed, first we waited 30 minutes to get our drinks and get are order in and they were not busy at all, then it took 1 hour and 15 min. to get our food. when it got there no one was really able to eat, toast was like a brick, biscuits were burnt, pancakes were disgusting and cold. We all had coffee and asked the waitress for cream she brought out this little cow creamer for 5 of us to share. she never came to check on us or refill drinks. the only part that was fast was when she brought our checks and then she just dropped off the checks on the edge of the table and walked away. Severely disappointed. We are from out of town and haven't eaten here for years... we were excited to be able to eat here again and were met with menus that are so worn you couldn't read them, dirty floors, worn booth seats that have springs poking you, staff that is walking around disinterested and on phones.... our special order came with everything on it we had requested not be on it and my pesto chicken wrap didn't even have pesto on it. In general, the food wasn't very good and we were underwhelmed and disappointed. We are removing this restaurant from our list of places to eat when we come to town. read more

I have been there a few times but the last time was not a good experience. My wife and I wanted to split the tenderloin. The portion is so big that we can't eat a whole one. We ordered and sat there for over 30 minutes waiting for our meal. I usually don't wait that long for anything. We finally got up and left. I will go back for a giant tenderloin again but if I have to wait that long again, I will walk out again. I have heard this from other patrons as well. The pancakes are the best I've ever had, which is saying something. I had the berry ones and they didn't even need butter or syrup. AMAZING! The service was quick, but once emptied, my husband's coffee cup remained empty. I didn't like the coffee, but I'm a Dunks kind of girl. Also, we asked for butter, but didn't get any. And the check was dropped without asking if we'd like anything else. Nor did the server let us know if we should pay him or if there was a cashier. (There was a cashier it turns out.) Originally from Waterloo we were back in town for a family gathering, restaurant came highly recommended for breakfast. It was just OK, very limited menu - we were told we could order whatever we wanted since they were a scratch kitchen, however they didn't have anything in the kitchen that we requested so had to stick with the bland menu. Most of the food was good in our party of 11, however I found a hair in my hash browns - ewwww! We had a pleasant waiter but the food was slow to get to our table. We are in town (Cedar Falls) visiting family, and ventured over to Waterloo yesterday, looking for a place to have lunch! We were hoping to find a "non chain, one of a kind" place that served great food :-) we were fortunate to notice the "newton's Paradise Cafe as we were driving past! I ordered the spinach salad which was outstanding as well as the creamy potato mushroom soup that my husband ordered!! Also, our waiter was outstanding in every way! Keep up the good work!!!
