This property is enormous, and I imagine it would be a really great place for a family reunion or gathering! There is ample space inside and out, and it's all very open and clean, though the inside dining areas are separated into large rooms, which I think would help with noise control when it's busy. We visited around 7:45 on a Friday evening in August and found it remarkably not crowded, but they have another location in Cedar Falls that probably draws a larger crowd. We were at the Waterloo location, which probably caters to a lot of business people and business travelers during the week. We ordered a lot of food for two people, and it was all excellent, but I rate this cool place four stars because all the food came out of the kitchen at once and we were totally overwhelmed. If it had been paced, I think we could have pulled it off, and as travelers, we couldn't really take leftovers with us to have another day. Our server was extremely helpful and patient helping me understand their beverage selections. I enjoy a good cocktail or a glass of good wine, but my beer tastes are even more limited, but SingleSpeed offered up the perfect solution: the SingleSpeed-a-rita. The food here is good, and it is a huge location so you can sit at a communal table or a separate high top. Girlfriend had the Nashville hot fries. She had had them before and they were great, and a TON of food. I had the biscuits and gravy and the gravy had just enough spice and flavor to it to make it interesting. Biscuits were thick and tasty as well. Not a huge portion, but enough. The bacon was pretty average though. Not thick cut or anything. The beers here are the real story though. The ambiance here is cool -- it has a trendy, fun vibe and seems like a great place to hang out. We actually went a few years ago and the food was fabulous, which is why we were excited to come back with a larger group last night. Unfortunately, the food this time around was mediocre at best for everyone at the table. The self-service concept works in theory, but it didn't seem to work as well in practice. I ordered the street tacos with fries, but my meal was brought out with a salad instead. Not a big deal -- mistakes happen. I politely mentioned that I had ordered fries and asked if he could bring those instead. The server told me he needed to go back and "check" that I had actually ordered fries. Five minutes later he returned with ice-cold fries and no explanation. My street tacos were very *meh.* Disappointing. Another bike ride & another tasty stop! We shared nachos & they were really loaded! You needed more chips! Friend's tenderloin was good but very big! He only ate 1/2. Others Unami burger was just a standard burger with good fries. The charcuterie board was pretty & flavorful. A salad was huge! Everyone enjoyed their beers. I was disappointed no kombucha on tap--just cans. Ordering on line is annoying & a bit confusing. We had a group of 16 & some folks paid for others and some double ordered by accident. Just as serious about their food as they are with their drinks, this restaurant was a pleasant surprise for brunch. One of the things that definitely makes this easy to go to as a group is the way that you can collaborate on the meal as a table and even split payment all through their website. This also helps to avoid any confusion and surprises as all the people at the table are able to verify the order. The food here was great from start to finish, definitely arranged well for social media posts with good plating and lots of colors. The flavors were also good, as the design of each dish was pretty obvious and the main ingredient really shined and was supported by the other elements of the dish. In particular, the board with the deconstructed michelada had a lot of interesting contrasts and bold flavors with each option. The mustard and pickles helped to cut through the fattiness of the pork on the cubano flatbread. The lightly toasted bread gave a nice contrast to the tenderness of the pulled pork. The fluffiness of the buttermilk biscuits really provided a nice and airy base for the creamy gravy where the sage provided a nice elevated flavor. Overall, great flavors, great textures, and great service make this my top priority for visiting again next time I'm in the area. read more

The service on a Thursday night was way below par and it wasn't because RAGBRAI was in Cedar Falls. If I could give it a rating of zero stars I would. After placing our order I asked our server how long it would be until we received our food. The server said I'll check and came back a few minutes later. I came here over the summer but didn't get a review down. I had the nachos and thought they were too spicy so I was afraid to come back for dinner, unsure what I would get. I decided I'd get the burger but instead I came after dinner. I had the lavender hazy beer. I wasn't a complete fan, I had the whirled wide haze last time and it was amazing. Then I had zach's mexican donuts beer, with a great coffee taste. I had the kitchen sink cookies with ice cream as well. The cookies were fresh and hot and great mixed with the ice cream. After a long trip from a Ohio due to a family emergency we were hungry! We checked into our hotel and asked the nice girl working where her favorite place to eat was and she pointed us in this direction. We arrived on Saturday around 7:40 pm with absolutely no wait and were able to be seated right away. The seating consists of long tables with benches which was fine because they have space between dining parties marked off due to covid. Staff was all wearing masks. The waitress didn't make us feel rushed and got us water to sip on while we looked over the menu (provided by QR code on the table) The building is an old bread factory and we really appreciated the repurposing of it while leaving a lot of what I assume are the original details. It's beautiful. BF ordered the pulled pork with fries and pasta salad and I ordered the chicken and waffles. The food was good but the chicken was a bit tough and I MAY have overdone it with the hot sauce. If I could suggest anything it would be to pound the chicken flat before cooking so it's evenly breaded and cooked, I think it would've been five stars then! BF enjoyed his meal but didn't give a lot of feedback, it was a long day, but he ate it all. Starting off, the ambiance of this place was amazing. It has a rustic yet fancy feel almost as if it were a bar but also a five star restaurant. It's also super open inside almost like a warehouse so you don't feel like the place is ever crowded. I decided to get a flight of beer since I'd never been here before. It was really nice to get to try out so many! As far as the food, I got their pretzel appetizer. I wasn't the biggest fan of the cheese dip because the texture and taste was just not my cup of tea. A great new brewery in the Cedar Valley for bikers, walkers, and vehicle customers to attend. Inside and outside seating that allows for different atmospheres for all. We chose to sit outside and had a great view with a nice summer day breeze. The sample flights were good and plentiful (did not like the pink sour Gracie though). Chose our favorite samples to have as drafts. Nice and cold and the prices were pretty good. The restroom area was very clean and set up in a separate area. Loved the way they have the bathrooms set up with a large hand washing area for all right out side the bathrooms instead of inside. Will return here to try their new brews next time I'm in town. The meal was decent, but it was 'just a burger'. The blueberry compote was good, but the goat cheese was pretty blah and the burger didn't stand out at all. I wasn't expecting the Brussels to be deep fried to a burnt crisp. I ordered sprouts instead of fries for a healthy vegetable side instead of fries. Honestly I think they were just as grease packed as french fries. The kombucha was fantastic though. One of the best I've had. I would go back for that alone. If in Waterloo, Iowa, this is definitely a must do. Great microbrewery in a restored warehouse/industrial facility. Great outdoor space, too, on a nice night. The flagship stout (Tip the Cow) is excellent -- perfect balance in a milk stout with hints of coffee and chocolate, but not overwhelmed by flavoring. Also tried the Swift -- a summer saison that is brewed with a remarkably low 4.0 ABV. Best low ABV beer I've had. And a ton of variety in other choices from IPAs to goses -- all brewed on site. Even better? The food is tremendous. Chicken and waffles were superb -- served with both maple syrup and a siracha/Buffalo sauce to go between sweet and spice. Chicken is fork tender. You can put the knife down. Salad was as fresh as any restaurant salad I've ever had. Locally sourced. So the service must be a problem? Nope. Could have used a couple more people, but Carrie behind the bar was super. Got to everyone quickly, pleasantly, and sweetly. And she's a cutie, too. Great beer and a great variety of beer DONE WELL. Not a lot of breweries can say that there days. Award winning gose (pronounced "Goh-suh"... if you were wondering). Their Tip the Cow coffee milk stout was phenomenal. And I'm always a sucker for a good coconut ale, and their Coconut Migration was ON POINT and likely inspired by Monty Python ("how would one get coconuts here... maybe a swallow carried it?") Don't know why this doesn't have better reviews here. The food is excellent also. Chicken and waffles was excellent - I've had a lot in a lot of places! - and their iteration with the savory hot sauce mixed with syrup and powered sugar..mmm so good. A rating for just the building renovation and the atmosphere and the decor...a five. A rating for just the beer...a five+++++. A rating for service...probably a 1. This was not our server's fault. I blame this one on the kitchen. We had a group of seven and were seated within twenty minutes. The apps came out in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the hummus and the loaded fries. Fries were a little sweet and lemony. The hummus was good and the bread was delicious (made with spent grain). Then, one salad came out. Our waiter tried to explain that the "system" treated it like an appetizer so it came out first. We were splitting it but didn't want to eat in front of everyone else. Our salad sat there for at least thirty minutes while the other food trickled out. The last of our party to be served was waiting on another salad. Ironic. Food was OK. The bacon on our salad was amazing. We literally had to run the rest of our order down, a flatbread pizza. When it arrived the arugula was totally wilted. I don't think this place has been open too long and I would definitely give it another try. Searching on Yelp for a place to eat near Hwy. 63, I found Single Speed Brewery which looked interesting. I was intrigued by the Chicken and Waffles. The reviewer was correct; they are amazing! It's an unusual combination that somehow works of their special Tip the Cow Chocolate Stout, Sriracha and maple syrup on both the chicken and the waffles. To drink? Why the Tipsy Cow Stout, of course! My dining partner chose the Iowan Ramen. It was well seasoned and fresh, but he wished it had been warmer. We loved the ambience of the place.
