Ordered a breakfast crepe and it was FABulous! We shared it and had enough but were a bit turned off by the clerk telling us we couldn't bring in our coffee cups from a neighboring business. Their menu online didn't mention cappuccinos or we would have gotten our coffees there. Maybe add that and you wouldn't lose that business (and you wouldn't p**s off your patrons when you tell them they have to eat outside because of it.) Our stop at tata yaya was a few years ago now, but it was such a wonderful experience. It was local to the area and surrounded by other local stores in a little business corridor. The crepe I had was delicious; they had a lot of sweet and savory options. We sat by the window, and everyone working there was kind and helpful. I have been coming to Tata Yaya for a while now, and each time I am blown away by their food and service. You truly cannot find another place in town that can come close to this place. The staff always greet me with a smile and are always exceptionally helpful and kind. The food always tastes fresh and warm, perfect proportions, excellent taste. They have the absolute best lattes! The espresso is fresh and has a wonderful taste, however if you like something a little more sweet, they always have wonderful seasonal menu items that offer sweeter options. First off, the last snow we had arrived a few days before we went to tata yaya on the Parkade in Cedar Falls. I have a big problem when snow hasn't been cleared from sidewalks at the curb edge. How are you supposed to crawl through this gracefully and not fall? if store proprietors can't take a shovel out there to clean this off, you don't appreciate your customers much. This is a self serve place & they tell everyone where to find a tray to bus your own table before you leave! Oh, and you pay when you order, so they swing that card machine around to you with the preferred 15%, 20%, or 25% tip recommendations. At 12:15 PM I overheard they ran out of waffle batter for the day, which makes me wonder if both crepe and waffle batters are not homemade but come ready to cook from a supply house. At our table, we ordered the berry crepes I believe was $12.00 apiece and a cup of hot drinks @ $5.95 each, quite steep in my estimation for gritty instant cocoa that was barely warm. Crepes came out after a long wait and were not warm or good. I think they were pretty dry and tough. There was no sauce in or on top of a square folded crepe, just a few cut up strawberries, blueberries, and stingy squirt of aerosol whipped cream. I was expecting a crepe spread with a filling like a pudding or yoghurt, then chocked full with a big row of fresh fruit all down the middle of crepe, then folded over sides and rolled up the crepe and garnished the whole thing with a few mote berries. The bacon on the menu is turkey variety. Not certain how many years they have been here, but this was my first time in the place. I stand by my review after the comments from staff you can read below. My response to you is thus: So if you don't take note of the curbside snow pile customers must step over, at the very least it then becomes your responsibility to scoop it yourselves or to call the city to come finish the job. Passing it off as "not your job" does NOTHING FOR MY SAFETY. I ordered my crepe as it was described on the menu and did not ask to have anything left off, you are wrong about that. What do you suggest I could have added to it that would have helped it be more creamy, or to have a piece of fruit with every bite? Your prices are high enough, I'd hate to see what you gouge customers for with add-ons such as more plain fruit, nuts, substantial custard sauce, a drizzle of frosting, etc. No I did not see a sign upon entering that indicated it was self service i was busy entering an establishment I'd never been in before. I fail to see why I am responsible to bus my own table. For a $20,00 per person meal with tip anywhere else I'm not REQUIRED, LET ALONE TOLD TO BUS MY OWN TABLE. Staff is required to sanitize the table between patrons & could do bussing then. If asking to have my hot chocolate warmed up was discourteous then serve hot beverages HOT NOT LUKEWARM, Why do I have succomb to turkey bacon? Offer both and see which one you serve more of. I shouldn't have to eat like a religion I am not. So your unpleasant reply trying to discount my honest review just cost you another star. Next time maybe you should be happy with two stars instead of starting a grumbling match. I'll be back with more, you can be sure. I didn't like the place and do not find any redeemable quality in the establishment. read more

The food is excellent! The service is okay and more akin to a Starbucks level of service. You grab your menus, make your order, they bring the dish to your table, and you put away your plates on the way out. I was expecting it to be more full service so the actual rating would be closer to 4.5 instead of 5 The atmosphere is warm and inviting. They have seating for 24 people (6 tables of 4) therefore you would need to be careful is you have a large party. Overall I would highly recommended. read more

This was definitely a place out of my comfort zone. I tried going a few months ago but the wait was very long. That's why I only gave four stars as there isn't much seating and we had to wait almost an hour to get our food. The day we actually went there wasn't many people but if it was either the lack of enough employees or to many online orders it still took awhile to get our food. But they have us a coupon at the end of it for a free drink the next time we came. As far as the food I loved it! I had never really tried food like this before so it was definitely an experience. They had a lot of options to choose from as well, both sweet and savory options if you prefer one over the other. I know they can't do much about space since it is on Main Street but if there is a wait I highly recommend you take it and wait for the food! read more

Decided to check out a new-ish place in downtown CF after seeing it all over social media. I was really impressed by the customer service - we were asked immediately if we had been there before and given the run down of what we needed to know. I also liked the order at the counter style. We decided on a variety of dishes to try. The la vie en rose and the breakfast in America were the favorites, but we would have liked the endless love better if the apples were warm I think! It was our first time here. We ordered crepes and tea. I got Strawberry Fields Forever crepe which has strawberries, strawberry sauce, and ice cream and whipped cream on the crepe. When you first walk in, the atmosphere is so welcoming and adorable. The decorations fit right in with the feel of a cute little diner. The prices are extremely affordable, especially for a few broke college students. The food is amazing. I ordered the pancakes with nutella and strawberry and bananas on top and it was like heaven in my mouth. When the waitress brought our food out, she mentioned how the cook wanted them to be fluffier and so they made us a to-go order because she wanted us to have the best pancakes possible. Yum-a-dum! What a great all around experience. We're from out of town but our CF friends tipped us onto tata yaya and we're so glad they did. We ordered take out--very reasonable wait time, beautifully presented and everything was DELICIOUS! We ordered a variety to share: savory Breakfast in America, sweet classic La Vie en Rose and a sugar & berries waffle. Hard to decide which we loved most. Nutella and strawberries are a classic crepe filling and this did not disappoint. Their waffle is bread-ier than typical American waffles (which tata yaya helpfully point out) but it was delicious in its own way and very filling. Simple fresh fruit was the perfect adornment. The savory waffle has a slight edge as our favorite. It was a perfect mix: lots of subtle flavors that blended to cohesive yumminess. Even our son who isn't a fan of savory crepes agreed it was his favorite. Will plan to eat in next time as the atmosphere was warm, eclectic and welcoming. Definitely WILL be a next time.
