Very nice diner in downtown cedar falls with a full bar! The biscuit I had was soft and chewy rather than crusty, which I appreciated. Plenty of sausage gravy that was creamy. The BEC Sandy had plenty of egg on it and was tasty. Portions were decent but not huge. The restaurant is long and narrow so it doesn't have a lot of out of the way places. It was also brightly lit. Coffee was good and they had a good selection of premium coffee drinks as well. Service was friendly and our server checked in on us appropriately and filled coffee as needed. Nice old school diner decor but elevated. When you walk in the door, it really looks old school almost supper club-ish with wood paneled walls. But, turn the corner into the diner proper and you know this is going to be some good food. It's bright and airy inside with fun decorations on the walls. We ordered the Korean Chicken Sandwich (a total favorite of the Cedar Falls native) and the single smashed burger. Thumbs up to the Korean Chicken. The smash burger was OK. The fries were delicious. The iced tea was also delicious. I know that is weird to praise, but it was. The only downside to this experience is that we ordered the potstickers as an appetizer and never got them. Darling place. Cute décor. Fun banquettes! Friendly, helpful staff. And the food was excellent. I had lightly breaded deep fried cheese curds, which were divine, with a crispy light crust over the oozy cheese - plus roasted asparagus with grano padana cheese and chives that was to die for. Mama had the avocado toast and devoured it all. One aunt had a half Cubano sandwich with a half Cobb salad and rolled her eyes with pleasure. My carnivore aunt chose the double smash burger with Gruyere, bacon, and a fried egg, and loved it. Nice coffee, drinks, and dessert selection, too. Drove an hour to get breakfast here. Nowhere on their website does it say they are closed on Tuesdays during the winter, nor is there a sign on the door. Door was unlocked and we started to walk in and someone came out and said they were closed on Tuesdays during the winter. I said to him that it doesn't say that on the web. He responded that it's on their google page and Facebook page. Sorry, I'm not on FB and I don't use google pages. This information should be on your website. This place was so cute. Even on a busy Sunday morning we were able to find a table right away. Service was great and helpful with questions. I ordered the general Patton chicken - it was a little spicy for my Midwest tastebuds, but very flavorful. I would love to eat my way through the menu. Patton Diner, really great ideas when it comes to food options. The diversity of choices is a breath of fresh air for Cedar Falls. Unfortunately, the execution is a bit lacking. They are sooo close though. For example, we ordered the cheese curds, the batter looked really nice and crispy, but was much more hard and stale. Really disappointing considering the flavor was good. Another example, the kale salad looked amazing, but the was absolutely drenched in dressing, and the croutons were actually stale, like really stale. The flavors are really quite nice, but the thoughtfulness of balance was just off. Maybe it was just an off night (Friday night though, so you would expect them to be on their game) but we've eaten here a couple times now, and it's been about the same. read more

I've been to Patton Diner a few times- I love Breakfast/Diner food. The food is okay-Portions are small. If they had hash browns it would help with that. I like the drip coffee they have. I like the vibe they are going for but wish the barstools could be moved, it feels tight/close quarters at the bar. The thing I hate the most is the 3% restaurant fee. Most people tip 20%. For some reason - chef is going hog wild with bacon jam in a bad way. Bone marrow? Bacon jam. Diner fries? Bacon jam. Patty melt? Bacon jam. Like...what? First of all, the only thing that should MAYBE have bacon jam on it would be the fries? Maybe? They would be great without, tbh. To put the bacon jam on the bone marrow is honestly out of bounds. Too rich, richness on top of richness. Also, the toast for the bone marrow DOES NOT NEED TO BE BUTTERED/OILED. Honestly, fat on fat is gross - it's far too rich. The dish this is copying is based on the bone marrow from St. John in London. Classic dish...but they don't double up on the oil/fat. Neither should Patton. Last...bacon jam on the patty melt? Lol what? Like stop, it's comical at this point. Patty melt WOULD be fire WITHOUT the bacon jam, trust chef, trust. Stopped in for lunch. It's an old-fashioned diner setting. It's very charming. It has the old style diner, chairs and tables. It has the old-fashioned lunch counter with stools. The food is fantastic. And they bring you a lot of it. It's a very retro setting with music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The wait staff is top-notch. It's very clean. Our first visit to Patton was a trip down memory lane. Though they have only been open a short while they have their A Game on par.

We were in Cedar Falls for a short trip, so we don't know the area well. We decided to check out Patton for breakfast, and we were so impressed! I wish that we could replicate it in our hometown in Illinois. It's a great, retro atmosphere with lots of vintage, curated items on the wall to enjoy. A lot of thought went into the details, and we really appreciated the choices that they made for the booths, the lighting, the music, etc. We loved what we ordered, and my wife almost ordered another piece of chocolate chip banana bread to take home in the car. Even the fruit cups were interesting with a slice of blood orange included. The service was also exceptional. Our server, Tyler, was friendly and attentive. The owner, Corey, also stopped by our table to check-in, so we chatted with him. By the time that we left, we genuinely wished them continued success. Overall, it was a really positive experience, and we would definitely go back - if we didn't have to drive 4 hours to get there. The food is meh. If you want a show in how not to treat your employees, sit at the counter. This is the second time I've watched the kitchen staff get treated like toddlers. The servers are adequate. It feels like they are trying to stay under the radar so kitchen guy doesn't start berating them too. Oh- and it was different people both in the kitchen and doing the yelling. I have had 2 lunches at Patton's. Even though the restaurant was not busy at all, service was slow. Food came luke warm at best for everyone at the table - both times. It was good food - tasty - but not hot or even close. I had 3 tacos today. Smallish tacos and absolutely nothing came with them. No chips, nada. Was so excited to try when thry opened. They don't meet our expections for a diner. Their breakfast foods are all spicy. No traditional hashbrowns and lots of garlic. When asking for food without garlic they said they had none. If you like mediterranean style breakfast you might enjoy it. They were reluctant to accommodate my allergy request. I have waited a few days to write this because I wanted to make sure I did t write it "mad". We went here on Saturday November 9, had reservations for 6:00. We arrived at 5:50 and were seated right away. Ordered a drink for both my husband and I, they came out and then we waited about 20 minutes before our waiter came back. Ordered crab cakes for appetizers,we waited for about 45 minutes to get them. They were ok but really nothing special. Ordered another drink and were visiting why we watched the 2 tables beside us not get their food, I think they were on a time table and one table got their food and the other one did not. They left not happy. We waited about an hour before we got our salads. Still waited while 4 other table were filled with people. They ended up getting their food before we did and 2tables had left. We asked a waitress (not ours) McKenzie if she could check on our food. She was very pleasant and said our meal should be out soon. 1.5 hours after we ordered we finally got our food. I had ordered the salmon and my husband had ordered the steak. All very good but apparently the manager/owner was called in due to some problems. We didn't receive an apology from the owner who knew we waited for a while . We did receive a free dessert but really disappointed in the service. McKenzie was wonderful , just really disappointed with the owner /manager. read more
