    Smash burger

Nice old school diner decor but elevated. When you walk in the door, it really looks old school almost supper club-ish with wood paneled walls. But, turn the corner into the diner proper and you know this is going to be some good food. It's bright and airy inside with fun decorations on the walls. We ordered the Korean Chicken Sandwich (a total favorite of the Cedar Falls native) and the single smashed burger. Thumbs up to the Korean Chicken. The smash burger was OK. The fries were delicious. The iced tea was also delicious. I know that is weird to praise, but it was. The only downside to this experience is that we ordered the potstickers as an appetizer and never got them. I would return. (Apparently, breakfast and brunch is a thing here.)

Darling place. Cute décor. Fun banquettes! Friendly, helpful staff. And the food was excellent. I had lightly breaded deep fried cheese curds, which were divine, with a crispy light crust over the oozy cheese - plus roasted asparagus with grano padana cheese and chives that was to die for. Mama had the avocado toast and devoured it all. One aunt had a half Cubano sandwich with a half Cobb salad and rolled her eyes with pleasure. My carnivore aunt chose the double smash burger with Gruyere, bacon, and a fried egg, and loved it. Nice coffee, drinks, and dessert selection, too. And they have shots of house made limoncello for seven bucks! Smashing place! We'll be back.

The atmosphere is cute. Just like an old spot back in the days. The seats are comfy and the staff were polite and happy. My husband had the biscuits and gravy and I had the Patton Cakes, with eggs and hash-browns. Will definitely be our Sunday breakfast spot!

Bacon jam, too much bacon jam

GREAT atmosphere, TOO MUCH bacon jam. We ate here tonight, the vibes were HIGH. Excellent space, great drinks, friendly service, very cool. For some reason - chef is going hog wild with bacon jam in a bad way. Bone marrow? Bacon jam. Diner fries? Bacon jam. Patty melt? Bacon jam. Like...what? First of all, the only thing that should MAYBE have bacon jam on it would be the fries? Maybe? They would be great without, tbh. To put the bacon jam on the bone marrow is honestly out of bounds. Too rich, richness on top of richness. Also, the toast for the bone marrow DOES NOT NEED TO BE BUTTERED/OILED. Honestly, fat on fat is gross - it's far too rich. The dish this is copying is based on the bone marrow from St. John in London. Classic dish...but they don't double up on the oil/fat. Neither should Patton. Last...bacon jam on the patty melt? Lol what? Like stop, it's comical at this point. Patty melt WOULD be fire WITHOUT the bacon jam, trust chef, trust. Honestly, stop whoever has a heavy hand with the bacon jam and this place will be open for many years to come.

    Big A** Cinnamon Roll

the vibe inside the diner is sooo cozy and nostalgic. you can tell all the colors, materials, artwork and interior design was perfectly selected to complement each other. it truly feels cozy and welcoming. the customer service was great and our waitress was very attentive. we ordered the cinnamon roll along with the iowa breakfast plate which was huge and good for 2 people and the B.E.C. (BEC) breakfast sandwich! everything was delicious filling and if im ever in town again, I will be back :)

    Diner Fries (AMAZING)

Loved the dinner fries for an appetizer. Drinks were perfect (not overly strong and good balance of flavors). The atmosphere was unique and fun. Service was not amazing but was in no rush. (Food and Ambiance makes up for slower service) Overall great experience!!

Our first visit to Patton was a trip down memory lane. Though they have only been open a short while they have their A Game on par.

The French toast is amazing and I love french toast, I had some with my omelet. The omelet is a thinner version. Cooked on a flat top, folded and filled beautifully with all the goodies I requested. It was delicious! I ate far more of both the omelet AND the french toast! Yummmm. My partner had the sampler (top left on the menu). The server said you had to try it. It had eggs, meat, a side of French toast, AND a 1/4 biscuit with gravy! We took a bite of the sausage with a bite of the biscuit and gravy which was perfect! Thanks to the owner who cooks and the great chefs, as well as the other owner who is present everyday to greet and converse with customers! The owners have a great, powerful story about how they started. This diner has a very warm atmosphere and you feel welcomed everytime you step inside. It has a nice nostalgic feel that draws in people of all ages. I've had many of the menu items and I can say that everything was cooked as you expect it to be. Soft, cheesy omelettes with fresh vegetables. Soft scrambled eggs that just have that "home cooked by your grandma when you were a kid" feel. Crispy hash-browns. Sausage is great. Toast is always buttered and crisp. Man. Gonna go eat there tomorrow now that I'm talking about them, lol. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and hospitality received here. They are doing a great job at Gravy's Diner, I recommend literally anyone to try this place at-least once. You won't be disappointed. One of the best breakfast spots in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. My wife and I stopped by the First Street Sidecar location in Cedar Falls this past weekend…read more Unfortunately, this location does not appear on Yelp, so I am leaving a review for the College Hill location (which I have visited in the past). Here are our thoughts below! Food/Drink: Monster Cookie (Yum! This cookie was HUGE, soft, and delicious. Rating = 8/10). Hot Cinnamon Roll Latte (This tasted nearly identical to a warm, gooey, cinnamon roll! Be warned - it is a very sweet beverage. Rating = 7.7/10). Iced Hazelnut Latte (YES! This is basically almost as good as it gets when it comes to a latte. Absolutely scrumdidilyumptious. Rating = 9/10). Service: The service here could not have been better! Our barista's name was Brianna, and she had a phenomenal attitude. She looked excited to help us out and appears to love her job. Her passion for her job truly shined through during our time in the shop. Ambiance: As mentioned above, this review is based on our visit to the First Street location in Cedar Falls. It has a much different vibe than the College Hill location. The First Street location is not quite as "homey" as the College Hill cafe and has more of a coffee chain feel (not as much unique character that I typically enjoy with local coffee brands). The College Hill location, on the other hand, has much more personality. It is an excellent place to get some work done, read a book, or meet up with friends! All in all - we undoubtedly had a 5-star experience at Sidecar this past weekend. Excellent food and drink and some of the best service we've received in a while!
