Super-personable owner Greg- very talkative/silly and definitely a fun/important component of the experience. My corned beef (on sourdough) was moist and very tasty and my boyfriend's curried chicken salad on sourdough was awesome. They certainly don't skimp on portion sizes and we're both definitely looking forward to going back to check out some of their other options sometime soon! read more

Best Reuben in Austin http://thefatartery.blogspot.com/2011/11/neworldeli-austin-tx.html read more

Love the Ruben, breakfast tacos and salads. Go out of my way to eat there once a month.

Had lunch here the other day. I had the Greek Salad and it was one of the very best I've had. The woman, who is obviously the owner, was very sweet and engaged in conversation about something we shared in common. My boyfriend loved his philly cheese steak sandwich and fries were really good (we mixed our ketchup with mayo). The place has an old New York feel to it. The owner has a unique accent. It was a nice change in scenery...something that I've never experienced, dining in Austin. I'd like to go back soon. read more

New World Deli is the best! My family has been going there for years and think the world of Greg and his family. He and his wife have worked so hard to make the deli a relaxed and welcoming place with exceptional food. I love the chicken salad and various soups most of all, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Cheers to a Hyde Park tradition! read more

Get a sloppy joe or the Rachel- hot pastrami, cole slaw, cheese, hot-pressed rye bread. Wow.

Fan-tastic. Great food at reasonable prices. Staff is incredibly friendly as well.

Best sandwich place this part of Hyde Park. The Philly cheesesteak is fantastic! The girl at the counter isn't always nice, but she is proficient in accommodating! read more

Pretty good sandwiches.. Kind of a weird spot but food is pretty good. I wish the owners would update or modernize the interior for a better vibe. Kind of feels like a VFW cafeteria or something. read more

SO GOOD. I had the philly cheese steak, very good. Also Turkey with fancy cheese on other time, which was also delish. Coffee is great, staff is friendly, good ambiance. read more

Greek salad is king along with any dang soup. They are all good. Service is perfect along with seating and people watching. I need to hit this during the weekend so I can try a Reuben and not be expected to work :] I had the Cuban and it was awesome, but a bit salty (I ATE IT ALL DANG YOU FLAVOR *fist shake*). Portions are perfect and it's a great place to hide out at during the work week. read more

Just had a fabulous sandwich and soup myfavoitewhen in the area. Good ambiance and casual dining.

I love this place. Amazing tuna melt, french dip and eggplant parmesan among other things. I am always greeted with a smile and I really like the people that work there, they're always friendly and give great suggestions. The coffee and the gluten free cookies are also amazing, especially the salted chocolate chunk. For the size the prices are great, you should definitely check it out. read more

I had the grilled meatloaf sandwich... perfectly delicious! Every Mom in the northeast makes meatloaf and invites the neighborhood to dinner, but every kid knows when to politely run home, instead. This was the kind of meatloaf your best-friend's Mom made. It was well seasoned, but not so much that you thought you were eating a vegetable. And it's actually made with meat---not with unidentifiable leftovers like the scary, loud woman down the street snuck in. It was served evenly heated throughout, and well presented, without unnecessary garnish or excessive sides. (Hey, don't expect cream corn, either.) The one side: A crisp, cold pickle spear---a northeast-deli standard. The portion was more than I should have had in one sitting but I didn't leave a bite uneaten. (And I still ate the key lime pie, too! It was also good, although I'm not sure it's actually key lime pie; it might be made with regular limes and lime juice.) The owner personally prepared and served our food; How often can you say that!? The service (including order/cashier) was graciously informative (I ask a lot of questions!), engaging, and quick. I had just enough time to beat my lunch-mate twice at Connect Four before our food was served. read more

It's just a simple, high quality deli. What more is there to say? In my opinion, there's nothing really remarkable about places like this. It' pretty much the UT area equivalent of the Little Deli (minus the pizza) but with much more seating. I've enjoyed multiple sandwiches -both hot & cold, but the soups leave a lot to be desired for the price you pay. It gets crowed around noon -as to be expected, but the quality doesn't seem to suffer from the increases in the number of orders. All of the meat is freshly shaved and the french rolls are really tasty. Like others mentioned, it's a bit pricey for what you get but the quality is pretty high. If I'm in the area and craving a good sandwich, I'll go here before I go to a Thundercloud, Delaware or whatever. Good sandwiches, friendly staff, a bit pricey, but high quality. read more

Went to NeWorlDeli Tues. to see The Jerry Sires Band who we really enjoyed. Had NeWorld's famous Rueben (with pastrami) and it was delicious! Also they have a parking lot! What a concept. We'll be back. read more

Love this place, even worked there & still rave about it for all the right reasons! Greg (the owner) provides for his family with this down to earth, no nonsense deli & demands the best out of his employees. Since that way everyone receives quality food consistantly, time after time. Plus there is live music most nights, including an open mic night that is loads of fun. This place is perfect for lunch & great for dinner. From the daily fresh breads made in town by New World Bakery I believe (no relation to the deli), to the ripe tomatoes & house made soups. Try the eggplant parmasan, the cuban and of course the ever popular Rueben; oh and they also have a delicious veggie burger. If you are looking for delicious top quality sandwhiches or food this is the place to go. Wine and beer also available (Greg has no idea I am writing this btw so shhh!). read more

Best Sloppy Joe I've had since Milburn Deli in New Jersey! 2nd visit here while in Austin and it's my favorite deli!

UPDATE! So, within a day or two after I posted my original review of this place, I was contacted by the owner, Greg. He assured me that our first experience was an anomaly and invited me and my bf back to give them a second chance. We went on a Friday night, so there was live music and a good-size crowd. This time around, our food arrived very promptly and steaming hot. My bf got the meatball sub, which he very much enjoyed and basically licked his plate clean. I had the hamburger and we split the large french fries (which was a huge basket). Both the fries and the burger were tasty and I came very close to cleaning my plate as well ( I don't eat quite as much as the bf). After a short conversation with Greg recapping our previous experience and seeing how seriously he takes his business, I am convinced that our first impression was polluted by very unusual circumstances and I would definitely consider going back again. read more

Never been to this place or even heard of it before. I was hungry and wanted something new. I order the Reuben. OMG this sandwich was amazing and it's huge. The people here are very friendly. I would eat here again. read more

Incredible customer service and delicious sandwiches. Greg knows many of his customers and their orders, and he was glad to make menu suggestions while offering to make us something new if we weren't fully satisfied. Of course this wasn't a problem because our sandwiches were DELICIOUS (veggie with hummus was really tasty and they have the best gluten free bread ever). Greg also came out to check on us and chat, plus he gave our dog some pastrami!! Can't wait to go back here! Also, the gluten free cookies are indescribably good. read more

I ordered a half sandwich and cup of soup. The half sandwich could have easily been a whole sandwich. It was huge!! I had the curry chicken salad and it was amazing!! I also have the cream of broccoli and it was equally good. I will for sure be back to try more of their delicious food!! read more

Upon finally coming to this highly acclaimed sandwich shop that has been drawing me nearer and nearer as it is located so close to the UT campus, I was a bit thrown off by the sit and order type atmosphere. Fortunately, it doesn't really interfere with the casual-deli feel. Nothing really stood out on the menu, so the Reuben or sloppy joe seemed to be the only reasonable choice for something slightly different. The Reuben was on perfectly grilled rye bread and had at least 8 oz. of meat. My friend had the corned beef with mozzarella, and I had the turkey pastrami. I preferred the crisp, slightly tangy flavor of the turkey, but the corned beef had a great pickled flavor as well. Overall, these were great sandwiches that were perfectly supplemented by great, mild sauerkraut and a nice, slightly sweet Russian dressing. Together, these components make a great sandwich. Also, the coleslaw had a great combination of pungent pepper and sweet dressing. Good, solid sandwich place, though a little overpriced. It's a good thing they give good, large portions. read more

I am so glad to discover this place. As a vegan, I have to rave about the avocado reuben sandwich...with modifications. I ordered it without the cheese, substituting tomato and lettuce for it, and substituted balsamic vinaigrette for the usual dressing because of its mayo (egg) content. The delicious rye bread was loaded with avocado and sauerkraut and my special request fixin's, and the result was scrumptious! On another visit, I ordered the veggie burger prepared vegan, that is, veggie patty with mustard and no cheese or mayo, and the result was just ordinary to me. A pickle and/or requesting balsamic vinaigrette would have helped provide more flavor (as would melted Daiya pepper jack cheeze...so vegans can have as delightful a taste experience as vegetarians and omnivores). If they ever make available Daiya cheeze, Veganaise and Earth Balance Buttery Spread for their vegan customers, we would have more sandwiches to choose from...and word would get around quickly! We go to New World Deli from Pflugerville because it's a wonderful place to enjoy great local music talent. So far, we've gone to hear Kiya Heartwood, Nancy Scott, Christy Claxton, Sue Young, Rusty Nelson, and Bradley Kopp and look forward to many more visits...for the music and the (modified) avocado reuben sandwich! (It would be nice if there were more options for vegans though so I am giving four stars instead of five for now...hope, hope!) read more

Best reuben I've had in a long time. Really good, fresh rye bread. I wish this place was closer to my house! I've only eaten here twice but I'm sure that any sandwich on their menu rocks. Try it, you won't be disappointed! read more

I've been coming here for awhile and I always enjoy it when Greg the owner comes by to check on me and everyone else. That's professional service. What's more, when they made a human error and forgot my order, Greg ran out after me to apologize and give me a gift. This personalized service and desire to do right by the customer ranks high in my book and I'll always come here because of it! Thanks :) read more

Incredible Reubens. Not sure if anything else is good, but why would you bother ordering anything else?

The food is casual, affordable, and excellent. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and efficient. The acoustic music is always first rate and never overpowers the room. The owner is good people and is supportive of local musicians, who seem to love to play there. The room has a great vibe. Six stars! read more

probably the best real deli in austin. new world still has that old hyde park charm that is hard to find these days in some of the newer restaurants in the area. the food is just plain delicious and high-quality. if you eat there at least twice, the owner will forever remember your name. this place has such a great, neighborly atmosphere and it's really a treat to have lunch here. read more

Went here for the first time today after driving by it for months. At first I was confused by the seeming lack of parking but there's actually a private lot to the left of the building which is convenient. I had the French Dip and my husband had a reuben and we both split fries. My French Dip was delicious! The meat was thin and there was lots of melted provolone. Not much meat on the roll but I actually prefer that. And it made dipping in the plentiful au jus easier. Really great flavor and I can't wait to order this again. My husband really liked his reuben as well. It was so big he actually couldn't finish it (I on the other hand easily scarfed down my sandwich). The fries were good and plentiful. There is tons of seating here, they have a good beer and wine selection (and coffee drinks too) and they have wi-fi so you can eat and hang out for awhile. I see this becoming a regular place for us. read more

their tomato basil soup is so delicious. the waitress was friendly, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere on friday night w/live music.

Its a cute little place we'd give it another go for sure. Wasn't too pleased with the food this first time around. I got the hummus and it was just okay, same for the award winning ruben which is what my partner had. The broc. cheese soup did seem like it came from a can. The diet mexican soda was very good. read more

Delicious. Best Reuben in town. This is one of my favorite places on the Drag and in Austin. It is such a chill and friendly atmosphere with good food, good drinks, love music... Very Austin. read more

Oh man - I hate to do this. I LOVE the awesome couple who run this deli. I've been coming here a long time, but lately, they seem to have declined in quality and content, while increasing prices of course. I know it is hard times for small eateries out there. But sometimes, you have to invest a little in your product to bring in the customers and New World Deli seems to have gone the opposite direction. I've eaten there numerous times lately. Recently, I had the grilled chicken salad for $8. The thin strips of rubber on the salad were totally tasteless and rendered inedible by the watered down, flavorless honey mustard dressing. Terrible. And once upon a time, you got a wonderful slice of crusty bread with your soup and salad. No more. The sandwiches are smaller and seem to be made of poorer quality ingredients. And frankly, the counter staff leave a lot to be desired. They are sullen, businesslike, no friendly banter type of people. Very unwelcoming. Everyone seems stressed out and unhappy. And all that yelling from the counter - Lord. It makes it unbearable to eat there during lunch rush. read more

This place is a cute sandwich place that sometimes has live music. It has a coffee shop feel and you order at the counter. I enjoyed my grilled cheese there a lot! Yummy and standard. read more

I've been dying to try this place. I pass it every day on my way to work. I've read such good things about them. I like the ambiance, what I don't like is standing in front of their counter reading the menu for the first time, trying to figure out what I want. It's a little cluttered, the menu not as clear cut as they think, and I had to move to let other people who had been here before and knew what they wanted, order their food. Finally I went with the consensus of yelpers and chose the Ruben, we also had a grilled chicken sandwich and a soup and half turkey sandwich. The Counter person asked if I wanted any sides, but there are no sides on the board and I wasn't quick witted enough with people waiting behind me to ask what they were, so I just said no. Although they are listed on the web menu now, I don't think they were when we were there because we looked and couldn't find them. The ruben was good. But they pulled the same trick many delis do and piled all the meat in the middle so when they cut it looks like this huge pile of meat on the sandwich. Sadly when I finished the part with meat, I had at least a half a sandwich worth of meatless bread. If I really had been on my game, I would have opened it and redistributed the meat. Oh well, next time. The other two sandwiches were fine, nothing special one way or the other. I like that you can get a glass of wine here, and I read that they have live music, although not when we were here. I'm interested in trying the curried chicken salad, so we will probably be back. read more

May I begin by saying what a fine establishment this is! The sandwiches are unmatched anywhere in Austin. The atmosphere is so relaxing and a true Austin establishment. Definitely one of my favorite places to grab a bite. read more

We had my mom's birthday party here recently since she loves to come here for the happy hour music. At the party, New World Deli provided all the food and drinks. Greg and the rest of the staff were very well organized, flexible and friendly, and the food was delicious. We selected an array of sandwiches and salads, and all the guests were really pleased and had a great time. Thanks to all the NWD staff for making this a memorable evening. read more

This is my go-to sandwich place. The bread is delicious and they offer a variety of toasted and non toasted sandwiches from sloppy joes to chicken curry. They often have live music and the staff is always very friendly. Today I went to get a sandwich to go and who I'm assuming was the owner and/or the head chef asked me about my order. We had a bit of back and forth of "what's"? and "huhs?" due to the live music. I assured him I didn't mind and the band was great. Nevertheless, after I got my food and walked out he came out after me asked my name and threw me a free brownie. Great experience and I will continue to recommend this place to friends. read more
