When Newk's opened in my neighborhood I was very excited but I'm sad to say I've had mixed results with this particular store. First couple of times things went fine but the last two visits haven't been quite as good. The food is always fine but the customer service needs work. The to-go order procedure needs some improvement and the staff needs to actually call out the name of the to-go order before darting back to the kitchen. I have been passing by this place since they opened and was finally able to stop by for lunch. It reminds me of a better Jason's deli. The service was outstanding--I saw the mgr checking on staff and customers constantly and I ate inside and i never witnessed any food just waiting to be delivered. The first time I ate at Newk's was 2018 and I had the veggie sandwich which became my favorite item on the menu. It has been well over a year due to COVID that I have eaten at the restaurant. So I was in the area and decided to order the veggie sandwich. It was awful. The bread was the same but the sandwich has some kind of creamy goo, one mushroom and two peppers. What the h-ll. Covid-19...times of social distancing, mask wearing, and uncertain times. I cannot believe what I saw this past Saturday, it was simply unsettling. I went to order take out and all staff at the registers, not wearing masks or had NO gloves! I was able to take a peek at the kitchen and the same, no masks or gloves, I thought to myself, this is how they are acting and handling my food. I felt anxious, unsettled and very disturbed. I don't know who runs this place or who is their manager, but OMG! I will not go to this place again and it was a new neighborhood place I was enjoying when they first open, now with what I saw it's a NO GO! And the cashier actually rubbed right against me as she was going curbside to deliver a bag, again NO GLOVES, NO MASK, handing food out like it was no big deal, well it's a BIG DEAL TO ME AND MY HEALTH! Great food ! Caesar salad and the sausage & pepperoni pizza were great! Salmon was hot and fresh off the grill and the pizza had a unique taste that was very flavorful! The dessert (lemon whoopie pie) was notttt amazing. It was good but very very sugary so if you like extra sweet then this is for you ! read more

I had never been before but my mother and I tried it and were pretty impressed. The food was very fresh and enjoyed the atmosphere. I will say the menu was a little confusing at first and if you have an older person with you it makes it hard for them to stand and read the menu. Sadly my worst experience at a Newk's ever. I order a Salmon Caesar Salad to-go. I waited 25 minutes, to find out my To-Go order ended up on the rack for pickup, after having to ask where it was. Needless to say the fish was now cold, and the salad was now warm. Then the lady dropped the bag on the table and walked away. As I was leaving I see another lady comes out of the kitchen wearing a medical mask! So now I'm thinking, is she sick? Did she prepare my food? Tell me why I show up at 938 pm to Newks in Smyrna and the doors are locked. The sign says close at 10pm. Hmm?? The manager comes to the door says were short staff sorry. If your sign says until 10 pm then it should be 10pm. Lesson learned don't come here again you never know if they will be open for business. Also I have emailed the company concerning this issue. Their loaded cheese potato soup gave me food poisoning and I was sick all July 4 weekend. So sick I can barely keep water down and it's been over 3 days. Never going here again. Also you may want to take a look at their previous health inspection scores. They had a "U" (68) in 2019 then a "C" in 2020. U is failing. I'm not surprised this place got me sick. I downloaded yelp so I could write this review. Never in my life have I been to this Newk's and they correctly get my order right. If you are picking up an order, make sure you triple check your order for everything you purchased because there is a high likelihood something is missing and/or wrong . It is so aggravating to get home and notice that one or multiple items are missing. Even if they ensure your whole order is in the bag, do not trust them. Cavity search your order right in front of the employees. Disappointed in the service because I live right down the street. read more

Before getting a drink at this location be sure to check the ice dispenser for a black gooey substance... when I was getting ice for my drink I had a chunk of this fall in my cup. When I brought this to the managers attention her lackluster attitude towards the situation was alarming. She brought another associate to look at the ice dispenser and they both stared at it as if it was going to clean itself and then walked away. E?freely convenient to my home. Have been there twice. The younger group in my family love the place. My preference for food is more exotic so I am grading this for the person who loves foreign fare. It is super clean, you pick your food up at cashier after it's prepared and tipping I don't believe is expected. Because their staff is super sweet I do tip. I had never been to Newk's but figured it would be sort of similar to Panera, so I gave them a try today. I ordered an Italian sandwich and a drink at what my receipt says was 1:14. By 1:45 I still hadn't received any food so I went to ask for my money back as I had an appointment at 2. The man I spoke to at first said he could box it up to be to-go instead, which would have been fine, but the food wasn't ready so that wasn't an option. So I waited a few minutes for the manager to come do the refund. She was apologetic and said they were short staffed, but then she could not get the register to work to give me my refund. She kept saying she "understood that I was upset," almost like she was trying to calm me down... which was weird because I hadn't said anything really. I work in customer service too, I get that some days everything hits the fan. It's cool, I just don't wanna be charged for a sandwich I never get. After waiting almost 10 minutes on a refund with no success, I just had to walk out as I couldn't miss my appointment. I returned after and was able to get a refund, and the man who handled it apologized again. The restaurant looks really nice and the cashiers were friendly so I might give it another chance, but this experience was definitely a letdown and I didn't enjoy having to skip lunch today. read more

This place is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a great order and sometimes not so much. For the price you pay you are definitely not paying for service. The service in this restaurant has always been polite and prompt. This restaurant is always clean and the attitudes here are friendly and welcoming. Most of all the food is fresh and made quick and just like the pictures on the menu. The ambiance is also very nice. With the right music volume. Horrible customer service. We walked in and were greeted by the man at the register. He walked away while we were deciding what we were going to eat. Once we got to the register we stood there ignored. There were MULTIPLE employees sitting around eating (they were not busy, at all) after standing there for 5 minutes without being acknowledged we walked out. No one even batted an eye lash. The food is usually pretty decent, but obviously they can't find good help. The cashier could not have been more disinterested in her job. She used short questions. "Order?" "Receipt?". No "hi", no "thank you". And I've been sitting here for 20 minutes waiting on a chicken Caesar salad. If they don't find better help, I'll find other places to eat. Update: I ended up sitting at the table for 35 minutes waiting on a chicken Caesar salad. I had an appt after lunch so I allowed 45 minutes to eat lunch. I stood in line for about 15 minutes while the cashiers answered phone calls and entered info into their computers. Then one looked up at me and stared. No "can I help you" no nothing. Then I sat and waited for the 35 minutes for my salad. I asked the people who were bringing food about my order. No one seemed to comprehend. I then went to the cashier and asked for a refund, as I had no more time to waste. Turns out the salad was there in the kitchen, they just didn't have a ticket for it from the cashier. I came into Newks yesterday and although the food was good; the service was sub par... this isn't my first time but I stopped coming when Management declined. I was with my co workers and gave it another shot since majority ruled on pizza; I was so embarrassed. Can't say enough great things. Staff is nice, helpful and efficient. Location is clean. The bread and butter pickles are out of this world phenomenal. Everything I've had on the menu at this location and others is always delicious and consistent. Only downside to this location is the Smyrna housewives that bring their screaming kids during lunch. Every single order I've ever placed, which has always been to go, has had an issue. After getting home and discovering missing/wrong items, I've made it a point of going through what I was given to make sure I have what I ordered, before leaving the restaurant. And without fail, there is always an issue. Giving me wrong salad dressing, missing side items (happened several times) and putting condiments I specifically requested off or vice versa. I really liked Newk's. I had a pesto chicken sandwich and they weren't stingy with the pesto basil sauce. The chicken was fresh. The bread was really good. My son tried the shrimp po'boy. He loved it. I also like the fact that there's a fridge that you can just grab a prefixed salad, sandwich, or side and checkout if you're in a hurry. The prices are not too bad. Good food, reasonable prices for a fast-casual deli. I agree with the "drown the salads" complaint. The salads would be better with maybe 1/4 as much dressing, and another 1/4 on the side. Pizzas are good, crust is nice and chewy. It has the same problem as a lot of pizza places, though, where the centre of the pizza is never *QUITE* done. Maybe an extra minute in the oven would be good. Lots of items on a round bar, such as capers and roasted garlic, which is probably the biggest draw here over another similar chain. It definitely adds something to your meal when you can toss some capers onto a salad, or some roast garlic cloves and real grated cheese onto your pizza. read more

This was my first visit. Two stars for appealing environment. The salmon Caesar was just a whole bunch of romaine,dressing and dressing and a very dry over cooked piece of salmon. The chicken pesto sandwich was served on big wheat bread hoagie bun that was way too heavy. I chose to just eat the chicken but it was way too dry too. I'll try again. We've taken carryout twice. Both my husband and I ordered the "pairs". Half sandwich and Mac and cheese for me and a sandwich and salad for him. The first time we had it the food was good although I thought the portions were a bit small. Pimento Mac and cheese was awesome! It was good so we ordered again. This time I paid attention. The bill was $20. For $20 we each got a sandwich that was about 2.5 inches at best. All bread-no meat. My Mac and cheese side was the equivalent of a quarter cup. I'm not cheap by any means but the portions for what you're paying is ridiculously small. Panera is a much better deal in my opinion. Despite the fact that it's within walking distance to my home I won't go back. I'm not looking for a footlong sub but for $20 I'd like to take more than 5 bites of my entire dinner. read more
