This Newk's is almost like our family kitchen. We live less than two miles away, and eat here all the time. It is also right across from Reformed Theological Seminary and so we call it "the RTS Newk's"! Good food. Good service. Nice ambiance. Great for dine in or take out.

The Worst Newk's in the World. With the rudest staff.

Service was super nasty this time and they screwed up my order. I ordered the cobb salad with a half sandwhich pairing. They forgot to put salad dressing in the bag. They also forgot the utensils. They also forgot the bacon on the salad which the salad came with. I was constantly going back to the counter to request what should have been placed in the bag to start with. Neither young woman i spoke to smiled. They appeared unfriendly and like they didnt want to be bothered. The manager largely ignored my presence and he never once apologized for the staff forgetting so much stuff. And one of the ladies was downright rude and sarcastic and i will never spend another dime at this location.

Summer, the waitress/bartender was so attentive but more importantly very skilled at making an exceptional old fashion. Every sip was a reminder of southern comfort. Warm like grandma and stern like grandpa. (The block ice is optional so request as needed). The oysters were the star of the show. My first bite tasted like a pleasant memory of New Orleans. Consider this a buttery Bayou banger. Don't be shy, squeeze that lemon and dip that bread and leave nothing behind. The south west chicken salad is not to be slept on! I had a pretty big lunch so I wanted something light, but still packed a flavor punch. Boy was I knocked off my feet! The heirloom tomatoes, fresh avocado and homemade chipotle ranch took me from Louisiana to Mexico quicker than any plane could. I could not wait to share what was shared with me! I took my walk back down the street feeling gleeful and ready to brag. I received this recommendation from a local Mississippian and I couldn't be more happy with my decision. In fact, initially I felt bad about hitching a ride with my colleagues and later ditching them (they went to another spot up the street) until I was given every reason to be proud of stepping foot in The Manship.

We had already tried a few other restaurants nearby, but because we were in a rush, no one was really able to accommodate us in time. As my friend and I were trying to decide whether we could realistically wait for a pizza, the owner overheard us and went completely out of his way to help. He actually disrupted the kitchen's order flow to move our pie to the front so we could make it to our event on time. It was one of the most thoughtful hospitality experiences I've had in a very long time. You can immediately understand why someone like that would earn recognition such as a James Beard Award. The pizza itself absolutely lived up to the kindness and care behind the service. We ordered the Hot Pop, and it was genuinely excellent. The crust was beautifully done--light, flavorful, and perfectly textured. One of my companions, who is French, even commented that it was one of the most authentic pizza crusts she'd had outside of Europe. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh and high quality throughout. The hot honey paired perfectly with the pepperoni, and the cream cheese element worked far better than I would have expected, adding richness without overpowering the pie. Beyond the food itself, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and accessible in a way that made the entire experience memorable. Overall, Poppy Pies delivered not only one of the best meals I had during my trip through Mississippi, but also one of the kindest examples of hospitality I've experienced in a long time. Absolutely worth a visit.

That thick, golden crust has the perfect balance of crisp edges and soft, airy chew in the middle. You can tell it is baked with intention. The cheese caramelizes along the sides, the sauce is bright without being overpowering, and every bite feels indulgent without tipping into heavy. It is hearty, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. Then there is the cheese bread, which deserves its own applause. Warm, gooey, and unapologetically cheesy, it hits that ideal sweet spot between pillowy dough and rich melted cheese. It is the kind of thing you plan to take home leftovers of and then mysteriously finish in the car. What really seals the deal, though, is the customer service. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy you are there. Orders come out with care, questions are answered with enthusiasm, and the whole experience feels relaxed and neighborly. You never feel rushed, just well taken care of. Poppy Pies fits Fondren perfectly. It is cozy, confident, and clearly made with love. Whether you are there for a full pizza night with the family or just grabbing cheese bread to treat yourself, it is absolutely worth the stop and very easy to crave again.

We were seated quickly, as it was not super busy on a Saturday afternoon. Our server came quickly and took our drink orders and filled them quickly. She even handled our change of mind without a pause. Nice! Appetizer of Fried ravioli with Parmesan cheese sprinkled was nice and crunchy. Served with marinara sauce. Mom got the Chicken Parmigiana, layered over fettuccini. The portion was huge and quite crunchy, without being overcooked. The chicken was still tender and not dry but the flavor was just meh. It also was lacking in marinara sauce for the noodles. The star of the show was the 4 Train Remix pizza! It comes with Grade mozerella, grilled chicken, smoked gouda, pickled onions, roasted corn, chipotle bbq sauce and cilantro. I opted to add brisket to the 14" pie. Have mercy! The flavor!! The toppings worked so well together and the brisket just added another level of complexity. I would have preferred a slightly thicker crust since the oils tend to sog our the crust. It was a little messy to hold but that just added to the fun. We also tried the Nada Colada mocktail with Torani coconut, pineapple juice and ginger ale and it was really good.
