We have moved to the Hillsboro area a few months ago, and I had looked at Yelp and Google reviews…read morewhen determining where to go to have our Trek bikes serviced. When I mentioned Olson's to a few people, they all raved about the shop. We have owned our bikes for over 20 years, but have not ridden them much as we lived in a hilly section of Seattle the last 17 years. Now that we are on a flat surface, we are ready and excited to hit the trails again, but our bikes needed cleaning up and servicing. I was very impressed with Mike and his friendly demeanor. He was quick to service the bikes, and even put a last minute kick stand on my wife's bike. Olson's is definitely the shop for any of your bike needs.

This is my 500th Yelp review. Just wanted to put that out there…read more Executive summary: They had what I wanted and made it super easy to drop in and pick it up. If it wasn't a 40 minute drive from my home, I'd return for all my bike needs. In this season of Covid finding certain fitness equipment has been an epic quest. Go ahead, find a set of barbells between 15-30 pounds. Go ahead, find a spin bike that can be delivered to your home. I was on a wait list for mine for about 6 months. Find a mountain bike. I'll wait. I thought, I'll find one that is from a big brand, that has a lot of stock, and just order it. I did my research and settled on the Trek Marlin 5, for a lot of reasons that are important to me and only me. Then I went to my local shop to order it. They were attentive and sat down at the computer with me and said, ya no. That's backordered until end of the year. It's April now and I don't want it in November. Left disappointed. I went home and searched Trek bikes in ever widening circles from where I live, and guess what? I found it, at Olson's Bike shop in Forest Grove, 24 miles from my home. I had given myself a limit of 150 miles, so this was pretty good. I called and left a message to let them know I wanted it and went to bed hopeful. When they opened in the morning I called again and the owner was funny. He said he was super busy but yes he had the bike. I said, I'M ON MY WAY. When I got there I walked in and there was a young guy putting a bike together and the owner behind the counter and he took one look at me and said, Marlin 5? I guess I had that wild look about me. The young guy got it down from a rack, I gave it a kick in the tires, and then we put it on the card! Getting it in the back of Sarah the Blue Fin Tuna (my mini cooper) wasn't as hard as it could have been, because the front tire comes off real easy. With disc brakes getting it on and off is a breeze and they made sure I knew how to do it before I left. I liked this shop, I liked the men working there, and I liked the way they treated me like a local customer, even though I'm not. They made it real easy and I was comfortable there. I would return for all my bike needs if it was closer to my home.

I got back all my extras, the container I brought them in, and my bike in perfect condition. From drop off to pick up was less than 1 business day. Now, if I were you, reading this review, I'd go "well that's great and all, but bringing your own parts was a red flag -- these guys must overcharge". Nope! I'm just paranoid and wanted to bring OEM parts -- Santiam had offered an EXTREMELY reasonable price on the parts I needed (actually, I think cheaper than what I ended up paying...) and the labor itself was a great rate -- I had been budgeting and worrying to pay twice what I was actually charged! Santiam knows their stuff, has a broad selection, charges a great price, and is fast. Everything you could possibly want from a bike shop.

This one suited him perfectly and was the right color, which is the most important thing to a 7 year old. They offered to build it at no obligation to buy, so we said to go ahead. We went back a couple days later and picked it up. Kid was very happy. I went in a couple weeks later looking for an entry-level mountain bike for myself. The guy took the time explaining all of the ins and outs and what to look for, what's worth laying more for, etc. I didn't end up buying one as I found another I liked elsewhere, but the knowledge gained here helped me make that decision. Several weeks later, I took my 13 year old road bike in to see how they could modify it for my current needs, which consists of riding through Minto Brown with my son on the laced trails and gravel roads. They gave me a some great ideas, and also presented a new bike that was more suited for what I wanted at a great price. I went for the new one, and it rides great. Likely going to take it back for some bigger tires, which was a future modifiable option that made the bike more enticing. These people are great. Get your bikes here.

I had to use tin snips to cut one of them when I had my bike locked to a tree. Took less than 10 seconds to cut, thankfully in my situation. I won't ever leave my bikes unattended for long periods of time with any type of lock. No lock is unbreakable but this lock cannot be cut easily. Be smart when you lock your bikes. OttoLock is that extra hoop thieves would have to jump through that they may not be ready for. Lock your bikes in a public area as well. If you can lock your bike within sight as well. If you want to break through this lock you will have to be loud and it will take you longer than usual. A friend of mine had a u lock and the OttoLock locking his bike. They cut through the ulock but left the bike after the OttoLock was taking too long to cut. They failed to cut through. A thief may only spend a few minutes trying to take the bike. Any longer and they risk too much. The OttoLock does that. It will deter a thief. It's small and easily carried with you which I love. The rubber straps used to hold the lock on the bike will not scratch your bikes paint job as well. The lock has a rubber coating as well to keep your paint surface clean.
