I told him the whole story, and he agreed to buy back my wheels on the basis that they'd sold me the wrong wheels. He told me the shop could build me a custom set of wheels -- a service I didn't know the Peddler offered -- but I'd already ordered another set of sturdier wheels from a Colorado company. When the wheels finally came in, I took them down to the Peddler. Nate swapped out the wheels the same day, taking extra time to re-true both of them. I've been out on two great rides with the new wheels. While the wheels are still settling in, the bike performed wonderfully. Nate also sold me a couple of wider tires for the new wheels, and the tires work just great. Both Kalan and Nate could not have been nicer or more professional in our conversations and dealings. I'm very hopeful that the experience I had with the other employee was just a one-off, and that the Peddler remains a shop that offers great customer service. ======= After two decades as a loyal customer, I'm sad to say the Bike Peddler no longer stands by what it sells. Last June, I purchased a set of Shimano wheels from the shop. In May, after a total 12 rides, both a spoke and the hub nut on the rear wheel broke during a short Salem Bicycle Club ride. I was astonished, and asked if the wheels were warrantied. The clerk said he'd check. They later informed me that the wheel's warranty didn't apply because it was a "wear-and-tear" break -- even though I'd barely ridden on the wheels. I expressed my dismay, and the clerk shrugged. I told him I'd been loyal to the store for years, and he replied that he couldn't tell me where to take my business. I was truly shocked at his rudeness and lack of professionalism. I've shopped there for years, purchasing items I could have gotten much cheaper elsewhere -- shoes, helmets, bib shorts -- because the Peddler always treated me and my wife like family. I've also recommended the Peddler to many friends, because I could count on the shop to provide them great service and support. It breaks my heart to report that the shop now operates on the motto "Buyer Beware," and seems to have little concern for its customers.

The woman in the phone was so helpful and nice. We just stopped in to get it and the same kind woman offered to fit it on our dog. Such kindness. We got it adjusted and purchased in no time. This one suited him perfectly and was the right color, which is the most important thing to a 7 year old. They offered to build it at no obligation to buy, so we said to go ahead. We went back a couple days later and picked it up. Kid was very happy. I went in a couple weeks later looking for an entry-level mountain bike for myself. The guy took the time explaining all of the ins and outs and what to look for, what's worth laying more for, etc. I didn't end up buying one as I found another I liked elsewhere, but the knowledge gained here helped me make that decision. Several weeks later, I took my 13 year old road bike in to see how they could modify it for my current needs, which consists of riding through Minto Brown with my son on the laced trails and gravel roads. They gave me a some great ideas, and also presented a new bike that was more suited for what I wanted at a great price. I went for the new one, and it rides great. Likely going to take it back for some bigger tires, which was a future modifiable option that made the bike more enticing. These people are great. Get your bikes here.

I got back all my extras, the container I brought them in, and my bike in perfect condition. From drop off to pick up was less than 1 business day. Now, if I were you, reading this review, I'd go "well that's great and all, but bringing your own parts was a red flag -- these guys must overcharge". Nope! I'm just paranoid and wanted to bring OEM parts -- Santiam had offered an EXTREMELY reasonable price on the parts I needed (actually, I think cheaper than what I ended up paying...) and the labor itself was a great rate -- I had been budgeting and worrying to pay twice what I was actually charged! Santiam knows their stuff, has a broad selection, charges a great price, and is fast. Everything you could possibly want from a bike shop.

I was so impressed, in fact, that I just ordered my own bike. I have been a long distance runner for a few years now, and recently started suffering foot and leg injuries, so I have decided it's time to start cross-training with some biking. My current bike, a heavy old Schwinn mountain bike which I inherited, is definitely not up to the task; so Tony helped me figure out which hybrid/fitness bike would be best for me. During the process, I gleaned as much info as I could from online sources, but always came back to Tony for advice on my final decision. The guy is hardcore into biking, and his advice is solid. After several trips to the store, including test rides and fitting, I settled on the Trek Zektor 2. It is designed as a 24/7/365 use commuter bike, so it should prove durable for my intended use of fitness rides in all sorts of weather. We didn't feel rushed or jipped out of any time at all and reading that other guy's review, he just sounds like a snotty bicyclist that complains about everything and yells at people in "his" bike lane type. Chill out dude, life is too short and you're leaving a mean review when you sound like a negative person. We had the pleasure of meeting the older gentleman and his daughter. The daughter got us fitted and adjusted and paperwork filled out in minutes and out on the trail to have such a fun leisurely ride. And did I mention how super nice they were? We all shared a few laughs as things were getting ready. Loved the cute dog available to pet. We were only out for about an hour. We showed up pretty late in the day (430) and they were really cool about letting us take bicycles anyway. Overall, $42 for two of us to ride down a wonderful trail and drink a couple ice cold Gatorades and sodas after. A wonderful mid afternoon treat for two tourists!

The gang at Beaverton Trek helped me decide how best to make a change without negatively impacting the balance of the bike, and without breaking the bank. Cranks continued to come loose. No refunds, no exchanges, and no help. 380$ down the drain. do yourself a huge favor and go to Santiam Bike in Salem, instead. They do have a lot of bike packing bags which is cool I guess. This store is more for rich college kids or seniors.
