In the midst of the Covid quarantine I wanted to try something new and thought mountain biking should be the next foray of cycling for me. I looked all around Portland for a specific bike and happened to call Bike Peddler on a whim and got to speak to Robyn. She was amazing! Answered all my dumb questions and got me onto a bike that is not what I would have imagined would work for me, but it did! In the two times I was there and hung out on the curb for curbside service, I watched each employee deal with a variety of customers and questions with patience, which is not always the case in a bike shop as you may know. If you are looking for a new bike or anything else bike related, take a trip to Salem and give Bike Peddler your business.

Went to drop my bike off for a tube up. They were able to help me out on the spot and it cost a lot less than I anticipated

I got back all my extras, the container I brought them in, and my bike in perfect condition. From drop off to pick up was less than 1 business day. Now, if I were you, reading this review, I'd go "well that's great and all, but bringing your own parts was a red flag -- these guys must overcharge". Nope! I'm just paranoid and wanted to bring OEM parts -- Santiam had offered an EXTREMELY reasonable price on the parts I needed (actually, I think cheaper than what I ended up paying...) and the labor itself was a great rate -- I had been budgeting and worrying to pay twice what I was actually charged! Santiam knows their stuff, has a broad selection, charges a great price, and is fast. Everything you could possibly want from a bike shop.

This one suited him perfectly and was the right color, which is the most important thing to a 7 year old. They offered to build it at no obligation to buy, so we said to go ahead. We went back a couple days later and picked it up. Kid was very happy. I went in a couple weeks later looking for an entry-level mountain bike for myself. The guy took the time explaining all of the ins and outs and what to look for, what's worth laying more for, etc. I didn't end up buying one as I found another I liked elsewhere, but the knowledge gained here helped me make that decision. Several weeks later, I took my 13 year old road bike in to see how they could modify it for my current needs, which consists of riding through Minto Brown with my son on the laced trails and gravel roads. They gave me a some great ideas, and also presented a new bike that was more suited for what I wanted at a great price. I went for the new one, and it rides great. Likely going to take it back for some bigger tires, which was a future modifiable option that made the bike more enticing. These people are great. Get your bikes here.

So I knew I needed a new bike. They guys at the shop were patient and courteous. No high pressure. But clearly knew their bikes. After I looked at three other bike ships in the area, it was clear that this one had the best prices, and I think the most knowledgeable staff. They set up the bike efficiently, and even changed the gear shifters without charge. And it felt like I was moving up from a thirty year old station wagon to a new Mazda Miata, without breaking the bank. Yes, I happily finished my ride to the Mexico border.

We purchased a Trek bike here on July 25 specifically for our son's birthday on August 13. When we…read moreordered it, we made it clear that it was a birthday present. We were told it would probably arrive around August 1 and no later than August 7, which gave us confidence that we had plenty of time before his birthday. When the bike didn't arrive, we received no call or update from the shop. We had to call them ourselves. At that point, we were told it would be at least another 10 days and that they "don't have any control over when stuff comes in." That's where I became really disappointed with the experience. I completely understand that shipping delays happen. What I don't understand is giving a customer a specific timeframe--including telling us no later than August 7--and then taking no accountability when that timeframe isn't met. There was no apology, no acknowledgment that we had relied on the information we were given, and no proactive communication to let us know the bike was going to be late. At that point, with our son's birthday only days away, we had to cancel the order and scramble to find the exact bike somewhere else. Finding that particular bike in the right size on such short notice was not easy. We eventually located one at a Trek dealer in Beaverton and had to drive there to get it. When we explained the situation to the Beaverton shop, they told us Trek bikes typically arrive within 7-10 days and that they generally know when their shipments are expected. Thankfully, they had what we needed and our son was able to get the bike for his birthday. The frustrating part wasn't simply that a shipment was delayed. Things happen. It was being told "probably by August 1 and no later than August 7," receiving no communication when that didn't happen, and then being told it would be at least another 10 days with no apology or accountability. That left us scrambling at the last minute to solve a problem we thought we had taken care of nearly three weeks before his birthday. I don't expect a bike shop to control shipping. I do expect them to stand behind the expectations they give their customers, communicate when something goes wrong, and at the very least acknowledge it when they let a customer down.

This review is wildly overdue, about three years overdue, but I've been meaning to write it because…read moreEugene Electric Bicycles did such a great job on my bike. They converted my 2010 Marin mountain bike into an e-bike, and it was not a simple project. I have a small frame, wanted solid range, and needed it to work safely with a rear child seat. Alexander went back and forth with me for months figuring out what would actually work. We initially tried to make a triangle battery fit inside the frame. Once the real measurements came in, it was clear the manufacturer specs did not match reality and it just was not going to work. Instead of forcing it, Alexander pivoted. He found a rack with the right weight capacity and then custom-machined and reinforced it so it would be sturdy enough for both the battery and a kid seat. That attention to safety and detail mattered to me. Throughout the process he was thoughtful and straightforward about tradeoffs, timing, and cost. Nothing was oversold. When I had a quick issue after pickup, they replied to my email quickly and helped me troubleshoot it right away. Three years later, the bike has been completely reliable. The setup feels stable and balanced, and it has allowed me to keep riding in ways that really matter to me. If you are considering a conversion and want people who take safety and craftsmanship seriously, I would absolutely recommend Eugene Electric Bicycles.

The following is a recent situation I endured with this company…read more Eugene Electric Bike management, I had my E-Lectric bike in for a flat tire. I was given a quote of $60.00 to fix the tire. I was surprised how fast you fixed it, but the charge was $76.00! Although I was not thrilled with the response that there was an additional charge for a new inner tube, I decided to let it pass. Then I noticed my cell phone holder was missing. Your representative said they couldn't find it but would continue to look for the missing part. I had to buy another holder and sent you a text requesting a refund of the cost. Since the cost was $16.00 for anew holder and the difference in the cost of the bill and the estimate was $16.00, I would appreciate a refund of $16.00. Jack, The price you were quoted is the price you paid. The remainder of your phone holder is not at our shop. As you stated, it was a fast turnaround. Your ebike was in one area of the shop and nothing was removed from the handlbars. We are remiss that you lost your item at some point... But have no fault in this. You contacted us for a job, that job was done, that is all. Perhaps it would be best for you to take your ebike to another shop going forward. We wish you the best. V/r, Alexander Eugene Electric Bicycles Oh I will and your service will be noted when I rate you online. You might want to reconsider. Jack Your intent is noted. We simply do not have any role in your missing part of your phone mount. Better that we not have further correspondence as no good could come if it. Please do not message us again as we will not provide any further services for you. Still wish you the best of luck V/r, Alexander Eugene Electric Bicycles If this is how you treat a returning customer, I think others should know what a shoddy outfit you are!
