Back in the day they didn't check donated bike serials against the joint state systems for stolen bikes and parted out my 1972 Raleigh Super Course before selling it to another student. The parts alone are now worth double the frame but unfortunately I only have random period appropriate hardware cobbled together from used hardware places in Portland. So if they now check serials for stolen bikes per state law, good on them. I'll be back when I get those vintage 1970's parts returned. read more

This place is a treasure trove of used bikes, parts, and super friendly people excited about getting more bicycles and clean transport on the road. They have a load of work stands in the shop that are well equipped and free for anyone to use- all you have to do is sign in. We went looking for an inexpensive option for our kid who's starting at Oregon State and needed wheels to get around. We were instantly greeted and helped and had picked out a bike in less than 10 minutes. We spent the next hour or so exchanging a few of the worn-out parts with new and used bits from the well-organized bins around the shop. We traded old break pads for new, exchanged the seat quick-release for a used bolt, ditched the old toe clips & kick-stand, added a set of new fenders and voila! All for under $150. And, yes, my husband is a great bike mechanic so he didn't need help but if you have no idea how or what do to fix your bike there is a full-time mechanic on site to help you learn to do it yourself. There should be a Bike Collective like this in every town. We are grateful this place exists and we'll definitely be back. read more

Was looking for an old road bike and this place had plenty of bikes for sale. They also have a wide variety of parts that you can purchase and customize your bike. Great place, fair price, knowledgeable and there's even an area for you to fix up and tinker with your bike. Will come again. read more

I lived down the street for a year and came in with every bicycle related question I had, from tuning disc brakes to bottom brackets to rear derailleur hangars. If you bring in the bike or gear you have problems with, they'll diagnose and show you exactly what you need to fix it, or tell you which volunteer knows best and when they're usually in the shop. As for prices, they are never more than the gear is worth (often less) and you'll always get your money back in the form of knowledge. If this shop operated off of trades and freeloaders it wouldn't have lasted as long as it has. They're worth supporting, and if you have a little extra their high-end section is definitely a good browse. read more

Let me preface this essay by stating I have NEVER written a yelp review in my life. I'll go ahead and put this in MLA format so Everyone can read along easier than my experience at the Corvallis Bike Collective. This guy Eric was straight up rude lol... I don't work on bikes for a living... I come in to get the bike that I bought there fixed, and "Eric" had the audacity to talk to me like a 5 year old. First my friend and I explained what was wrong with our bikes. Eric randomly says "Oh so this just happened to break randomly or what" as if we were trying to have broken bikes or something. After asking politely if he would show me how to do it properly so in the future I actually understand the process a little bit better, he just decides to tell me "no no no". Excuse me? Why is this shop even open if the staff members are so against helping and educating its customers? I don't know... This is not the type of environment that you want to go to. I was over arguing with him, so I decided to pay for the bike tube at the register. I didn't want any trouble, I just wanted to get out of there ASAP. I told him at the register how rude and disrespectful he was to me and he insists on arguing back with me. I then asked him, "do you treat all of your customers exactly how you treated me today?". He then replies "yes". Okay, thanks! I thought i'd share your statement with the rest of the community. He puts half effort into fixing the bikes. I went outside after he said my bike was fixed, and there was another problem that wasn't originally there. I take it back inside and he tells me I installed it wrong. I then tell him, "that is why I needed you to do it because I have never done anything of this sort ever." He then replies to me, "sorry, but you have no choice but to learn." I said to him, "please sir, let me just watch you demonstrate, please respect my decision." He then stops and stares at me for a good 6 seconds, and then yells "respect my shop!" and thunders away from me towards the other customers. I stood there and waited for 5 minutes and he then walks back over to me. I looked him in the eyes and said, "sir, that is sad. I will not tolerate you telling me what to do. I told you politely that I would rather watch you fix the wheel, rather than me try and figure it out while you go do other things." which ended up wasting more time because my bike is still broken. I told him that I tried to fix it with his terrible instructions and my bike ended up being in worse shape. I was frustrated and just wanted my $40 used bike fixed, not to sit and get yelled at for not wanting to be proficient in fixing bikes. After arguing with him, I just told him to let me pay for my bike tube so I can leave. At the register, me and him were still arguing as i'm paying. I'm giving the company my money, so I would expect that whoever is working would be willing to help me put it together properly, which he did not. On my way out I told him that I will call back, report him to the manager and write a yelp review. He then proceeds to turn around and yell "YESSSIR!" sarcastically at the top of his lungs. Oh, and there were other customers in the store watching the entire situation. Never have I ever been treated so poorly. I came home absolutely infuriated and writing this long review should indicate my frustration. That is in no way how you treat another human being. I was there for 45 minutes, only to leave with my bike still broken and a rude altercation. Let me put this into perspective: I literally went out of my way to delete apps on my phone, download yelp, and write this terrible review about said "Eric". He's an arrogant, negative, immature person who doesn't belong there. This all could have been avoided if he actually wanted to be there and help others. 1 star because I walked out with a bike with 2 pedals, 2 wheels, and handlebars. whether the bike works or not, that's different. read more

As it is in most places run by volunteers, it's hit and miss with who you deal with. Try and look poor when you go there, because all but one of them alter their prices depending on whether or not you look rich. I pulled a shit, bent wheel out of a pile of other wheels. Straightened it and offered to donate another wheel with new tube and tyre. This women looked me up and down. And said "$20. I'll give you 5 bucks off for your wheel ". "I got the tyre and tube from you yesterday, it cost $10. I dont think this wheel is worth that much?" "i'll look it up on ebay, yup they are going for $20" "those are new ones.... with new tires!? "$20". I had just spent an hour and half truing it, so i gave her $20. "I thought YOU where going to give us that wheel?" "I thought this was worth 5 bucks" For a community based non-profit there to serve the community, they really like to pick and chose who they help. read more

Ron is a treasure trove of information about fixing things and also has a ton of experience and will inform you about the basics of repair. Of course, he cannot help everyone at once. I like to take responsibility to be educated about keeping my bikes working and my experience in this shop has been very positive. I'm grateful for its presence. read more
