Came in with a broken crank. was sold a new crankset, chainring, and bottom bracket. 300$. they didn't fit. came back and was sold a new bottom bracket that fits (because the old one they sold me actually didn't. the one i rode several times that they installed). 80$. Cranks continued to come loose. No refunds, no exchanges, and no help. 380$ down the drain. do yourself a huge favor and go to Santiam Bike in Salem, instead. They do have a lot of bike packing bags which is cool I guess. This store is more for rich college kids or seniors. read more

I have been in here 3 times in the past 10 days and been helped by 3 different people... and they were all amazing. Very friendly and helpful, my little brother bought a used bike and just wanted to get a once over to make sure it was good to go. He was helped right away took a look and gave a GOOD recommendation on something that needed to be fixed. I just got a Santa Cruz megatower and my gears were a little off I walked in was immediately helped and my problem was solved in 3 minutes. I was big in the BMX scene in San Diego (hometown) and have been to many bike shops all over the world. Shops like this are RARE. Not only have they been great to me and my brother. But every time I'm in there I notice they treat everyone great. This is a place I will happily spend more money than I have lol. They earned 2 customers for life in our couple of visits, we are new to Oregon and are very happy we have a place we can get all of our bikes needs, I'm not a big review writer. Took a trip from Denver to Corvallis to do some mountain biking on a relatively new full suspension bike I acquired. After the first day I needed some adjustments to the shifting and my crank had fallen off. How does that even happen! Anyway I took it to them and they saved the day for me so I could continue riding. They could have said sorry it'll take a few days but they took it then and did their magic. It wasn't just a quick cable adjustment....you saved my trip! read more

I had to double-check my math. I've been a customer of Corvallis Cyclery for... 27 years. Twenty seven years. So I am certainly biased, and I've also had plenty of chances to be underwhelmed or surprised by unexpected awesomeness. The awesomeness has been almost the only thing I experience. Corvallis loves bikes. We have so many bike shops, and that's actually really cool. I have been a customer of almost all of them, with the exception of a short-lived one that also sold guitars and who's owner and sole employee was always smoking cigarettes.... I digress. There are shops that want to sell you something. There are shops that want to help you. Cyclery is the second kind. There's a shop in town that will sell you a bike that the reason it fits you is because it's what they have in stock. There's other shops that want to make sure yo actually get a bike that fits your body. I've only bought one new bike from Cyclery, and after nearly a dozen years, I still love it. If it's time to buy a new bike, I'll visit Cyclery for sure. In fact it might not be too long; I need to replace one that was stolen. My 35 year old road bike will keep getting love whenever I bring it in. Most recently, I stopped in to Cyclery on a day off. I had a couple errands to do, but there had been a little minor annoyance in the shifter (internal hub). I figured if it was a quick adjustment that I wasn't getting right, that woudl be awesome and if not, I could schedule some service. Always friendly, they took a look and made some minor adjustments. They said go run your errands, and if it still needs work, bring it back. Now isn't the busy season, so they said it would be done in a coupe days. They did the full meal deal replacing a cable that needed it and NOT replacing a cable that was perfectly fine. Gave it the full going over, and found a couple little things I hadn't even noticed. The bill was reasonable, and I'm good to go for another year or two. Thanks Cyclery. Some of the mechanics are the same people who have been there for al 27 years I've been doing business there. What does that say about the kind of shop it is? I think it says awesomeness. The owner is relatively new, but he took over the shop from his dad. Yep. It's a cycling family, and it's really great. Do not take your bike to this shop to have shifting work done. I brought it in to them, asked them to adjust the front/rear shifting, and put on new Jagwire cables/housing, they said they had it in stock. I was told I would need new bar tape, so I said OK (mine was in great shape, but they said it might not stick when they removed it to get to the shift housing). I picked my bike up the next day, and like a dummy I trusted them and didn't test ride it. I got my bike home and tested it, and the shifting sucked. I then checked the cabling. The shifting cables/housing they put on were cheap, not Jagwire quality, and the price reflected it: only $10 for the parts. What the heck? The labor was $15. You know how much they charged for the bar tape install? $25! It was more for the tape install than it was to route internal cables/housing and adjust both derailleurs? How does the even make sense? Putting tape on is easy, and takes like 20 mins at most. So the next day I took my bike back to them. They put it on the stand and said it was shifting fine. No, it was not. This is an Ultegra groupset, it should be silent and smooth, and it was clunky and loud. I went down the street to Peak Bike shop, bought a Bontrager Pro cabling set, and made Cyclery put it on. When they were done, I did test ride my bike, and it was still crappy. I was so mad, I didn't even bother going back in. They had 2 chances to do it right, and they didn't. I'll never go back there, and I'd suggest you don't either. read more

I took my bike in, it's a fat tire e-bike, for inner tube and liner replacement on front and rear tires. I brought all the materials in with me needed to do the job. I was asked to leave the bike and pick it up the next day. They charged me $60. My gripe is that they didn't bother to realign the disc brake and caliper so it sqeeks something aweful, front and rear. Peak sports said they would do it for almost half what I was charged I do not recommend this store, nor will I ever spend money there again. read more

Super helpful, down to earth shop. Repaired a busted spoke for a much more reasonable price than another local competitor. Had my bike done and ready just a few hours after I dropped it off. Made time to talk to me about what else my bike may need in terms of service and what it doesn't need. Advised me in tires, which I'm looking to change to fit some different riding needs. Even took the time to chat about the local CX scene. Really friendly, helpful folks. I think this will be my go-to shop moving forward. read more

I was in town visiting my folks and had a loose rear hub on my MTB. Of course this was right before Memorial Day weekend and they were slammed! I left my bike with them on Thursday guessing I wouldn't see it again until Tuesday best case. Was thrilled to get a call from Gabe on Friday (the next day) and the problem was solved and bike ready for pickup. What a great experience and service. I highly recommend this team! read more

We've stopped into this shop a couple times, and it has been the busiest out of all of them so far. Not sure if that's saying much, but they do have a great selection of bikes and accessories (including lots of cool recumbents, trikes, and commuters). Looks like they have a pretty busy service area as well. After visiting 3 other shops in the area, we found what we were looking for here, a bike rack for all four of our bikes, to be stored in our garage. It was in stock, and actually less than what the other shops quoted us to special order it. Staff was really friendly too! read more

I'm not a big fan of people who Yelp business explicitly because of a great or substandard experience, I think you should review with a somewhat calculated distance. I'm not going to review where I work, but I'm also not going to review a place all starry-eyed because one of the many employees went out of his way to help me. Once you've visited a place enough, you realize when good service is a fluke and when it is a way of life. At Corvallis Cyclery, bicycling is a way of life, and so is great customer service (and salesmanship). I have three times now been just blown away by exceptional service. I blew out a rear wheel last year and my former favorite LBS quoted me a two-week turn around on re-building it. I brought my bike into Corvallis Cyclery after hearing that and I had my bike back with a strongly rebuilt rear wheel in one business day. Most recently I had some problems with a rear derailleur and ghost shifting - turns out that the bike was out of alignment and was wearing a slightly improper sized shifter-cable. I brought the bike in around 11am on a VERY busy Saturday expecting to not get it back for a few days. He fixed it in about an hour, all the while putting up with me annoyingly watching and chatting him up about vintage Schwinn Paramounts. I love that they're open about when stuff will get worked on, and they often just bring you back in the shop to tell you what's going on with your bike so you feel more a part of whatever repair they are doing. The other thing about this shop that is amazing is that they know the gear they sell and what works. Anything you are looking for or what they can get or have. I do think there's a bit of "up-selling", or suggestive selling when you come in looking for a basic consumable but often with that stuff the slightly more expensive option is actually significantly better...Also there are people like me often just want to chat about bike-related stuff - and the Cyclery's acumen in directing that type of person to a specific product spares tying up floor staff with pointless chatter. Did I mention they are good at what they do? I could not imagine how frustrating running a bike store would be in this day and age. Basically you put up with people who are incompetent with bike repair but are savvy enough to know that "its like 25% cheaper on the internet!" I also am amazed at how pushy some customers are when they come in here - I'll never forget the guy in full commuting regalia demanding the staff drop everything to change his tire. Really? You spent $4000 on a bike and full 365-gear but cannot change a tube? They not only accommodated him, but also everyone else that was waiting. Literally the only complaint I have ever had with this store is that they once did more than I asked to a bike...they ended up putting on new brake-shoes on a bike I brought in for something else. When I sort of guffawed at the service, the guy apologized and ended up not charging me for the extra service. That's not really a complaint. Also I like bikes that were made pre-1990 generally, and some shops don't really like working on old bikes. This is not one of those stores. They were loving on my Columbus-SL tubed Circuit. Again, I don't know if I'd say "as good as it gets" but as far as this town goes...yes. read more

Some of the bike technicians were very helpful and friendly, one of the main ones, (perhaps the manager or owner?) had very poor customer service skills, and was generally impolite enough that we won't be going back. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but most employees in any business keep it to themselves, since thats how customers are lost. I've never bought a bike before, I just walked in today to check out prices and what they had for sale, and this place was awesome! The guy that helped me was very friendly and informative, he could tell I wasn't looking for anything super pricey and that I wouldn't be buying that day, but he was very friendly anyways. My wife and I recently stopped by this shop looking for a bike so my wife would be able to cycle to and from work. We were greeted by smiling faces, and an attentive staff that were warm and very welcoming. My wife asked a variety of questions, each was answered with a no nonsense approach, that didn't sound at all rehearsed, but rather, second nature. She was shown several different bikes, before she picked one she wanted to try out. Josh, the guy helping us, was absolutely fantastic with directions down to the closest, and best, area she could comfortably ride around. After choosing, she also asked about locks, fenders, and helmets. Again, each question was answered, and the proper lock, chain, and fenders were picked out. Josh even had the fenders put on, and we were ready to pick the bike up a day later. Won't even bother going to check out any of the other shops in the area when I go to get my new bike. We are out of state and our daughter lives there in Corvallis. She has brought her bikes into this shop for the last five or six years and they are always very kind to her and they help her maintain her bike. They don't make unnecessary repairs and they don't overcharge and they always remember her name and she gets a warm welcome when she goes in. Our daughter doesn't have a car and she relies on that bike to get everywhere. The cyclery does a great job helping her maintain her bike and, after a little accident, they helped her rebuild it. When I first came to Corvallis, I made three visits to the Cyclery. The first two times were for minor repairs and purchasers. I had no complaints with either the service or the purchases. The third time I brought my bike in for a complete overhaul. The overhaul was expensive and I expected it to be but I noticed that a chain guard was missing. When I drew it to the attention of the repairman, he claimed the change guard was missing when I brought in. Dead wrong. I would not ride without a chain guard. Instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt and replacing the part, they told me that people often claim parts were missing in order to acquire them free. This may have been the case, but I take umbrage with the public accusation that I was trying to con them out of cheap part that was probably not reassembled in the overhaul. Corvallis Cyclery is the bomb. Hands down the best experience I've had at a bike shop and I've lived and biked in Los Angeles, PDX, Charlotte NC, Boston and elsewhere. I recently went into the shop as I passed through town and in preparation for a 2-week West Coast cycle tour. My old, 1980s steel frame Trek had some serious problems including an entirely broken wheel and cassette/pulley problem that made it difficult to shift into all 6 gears. Not only did Kevin diagnose the initial problem but he set me up with Matthew who's pretty much a wizard on all things wheels. Despite being incredibly busy, Matthew got my bike on a rack and set to work fixing the many problems. He even let me come in back to watch all the work so I could be better educated on how to diagnose issues in the future. The work was impeccable, they didn't try to sell up on anything and instead just got me into the equipment that worked best for my needs, and charged me next to nothing for the labor. After an hour of hard work I was on my way and my bike rode not like an '80s Trek but like a new bike. If you need service on your bike look no further than Corvallis Cyclery! read more
